Subject: Fantasy baseball keeper league

I need some help choosing 5 keepers for a fantasy league I'm in. The players that would even be worthwhile as keepers include:

Joe Mauer
Joey Votto
Pablo Sandoval
Lance Berkman
Josh Hamilton
Nelson Cruz
Jimmy Rollins
James Shields
Matt Cain
Cole Hamels
Adam Wainwright
Johan Santana

Of that group, I'm thinking of keeping Votto, Hamilton, Shields, Cain, and Wainwright, but I'm really not sure. Santana is tempting, and Hamels is too. Not sure Cain is worth keeping because he gets no run support. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Lacking other info I'm assuming standard 5x5 roto style?

With that group I would not even consider wainwright, coming off major surgery last year, as a keeper. The 2 easiest picks for me are Votto and Hamels. Start with those 2 as definites

From there you have 3. I think I'd go with hamilton and cruz. There are question marks with both of them, but then again there are question marks all over this list. When cruz is healthy he contributes at an elite level. One of these years he'll stay healthy for 140+ games and you'll be pretty upset if you miss out. Hamilton is still Josh Hamilton.

That leaves 1 spot left. I think its a toss up between shields and rollins. I still remember the james shields of 2009/2010. rollins is up there in age and doesn't have long term keeper value. but he's at a shallower position and still gives good stats.

Votto
Hamels
Hamilton
Cruz
Rollins

Then in your draft, focus on youth.

My list would differ:

Votto
Hamels
Sandoval
Hamilton
Cain/Cruz
