RotoGuru Sponsor of the Month : StarStreet
StarStreet offers daily baseball contests with a stock market flavor. Instead of filling out a complete daily roster, you assemble a portfolio of player shares. And you can own multiple shares of a player if you really like that player’s outlook for the day. Leverage up on your best idea(s) of the day, without the need to diffuse the impact. Don't like any shortstops today? Don't need one. Really like a certain starting pitcher? Get him multiple times. You own need to own a minimum of 3 different players from a total of at least two different games. Other than that, your only limit is cost.

Register by clicking on the banner to the left. A 20% bonus is paid on your first $100 deposited. And make sure to use the sortable stats for the traditional RotoGuru advantage!

Copied from Thursdays blurb:

Today, I’m introducing a new affiliated contest site: StarStreet.

StarStreet offers a unique twist on daily fantasy contests, based on a stock market concept. Instead of assembling a traditional baseball lineup, you build a portfolio of player shares. You don't need a full and complete lineup. A minimum of 3 different players is sufficient, as long as they are from two different games. And you can own up to 10 shares of each player selected, subject to affordability. So, for example, you might enter a contest with 10 shares of Miguel Cabrera, 3 shares of Alex Avila, and one each of Roy Halladay and Zack Cozart. This allows you to leverage up on your best idea(s) of the day, without the need to diffuse the impact. Don't like any shortstops today? Don't need one. Really like a certain starting pitcher? Get him multiple times.

The scoring formula is very traditional. Obviously, if you own 10 shares of a player, you get 10 times his points for the day. Daily contests are head-to-head. A range of entry fees and payouts are offered.

To further assist your analysis, I’ve included this game in the sortable stats, enabling you to evaluate ratios over different lookback periods, or select only hitters with opposite-handed pitching matchups.

In addition to the daily fantasy baseball contest format, StarStreet offers an innovative stock market simulation, where you can buy and sell shares of player stocks using real cash. I'm very intrigued by this opportunity, although I have yet to figure out the best way to analyze the market, so I'll leave that to your own initiative at this point. Hopefully, I can provide more insights as I gain greater experience and familiarity with the market. Conceptually, it seems to be well thought out.

If you do decide to sign up at StarStreet, please click on the banner or Starstreet link above which will automatically register you under the affiliate code "rotoguru". StarStreet is currently offering a 20% bonus on the first $100 deposited. But you can also play for free, if you want to test it out first.

Most of the daily contest sites have great similarity. StarStreet is decidedly unique. If you enjoy playing at other daily contest sites, you're likely to find that StarStreet offers you even more opportunities to exploit your analytical insights.

A few additional notes/observations:

I'm really intrigued with his game.

First, although you can play free contests, they also have a $1 option (pay $1.08 to win $2.00 in a head-to-head). Much better odds than a $1 lotto ticket! And more interesting to play when a hard-earned buck is on the line.

I've been entering $1 contests for the past few days. I've always just taken three players - all hitters. For my favorite hitter, I'll take 9-10 shares. For the other two, I'll take as many as I can to use up the $100,000 cap.

If my top hitter has a good day, I'm pretty much guaranteed a win (unless my opponent has done the same thing). For example, last night I had Corey Hart, who got 9.25 points. (A solo HR is worth 6 pts by itself, including the associated run and RBI). If you have 10 Harts, that's 92.5 points, which should generally win. Of course, if your top pick has a bad day, you're probably screwed. But the leverage opportunity is cool, and allows you to really focus your decision. Maybe I'd be better served to take 4-6 shares of each player, however. I'm still thinking through the optimal strategy.

It's also very fast and easy to assemble an entry, since you only need 3 players (taken from at least 2 different games). No need to find someone to fill each and every position. No need to even find a pitcher for the day. Find the worst pitcher of the day, and select a couple of hitters who'll bat against him.

StarStreet is offering their first Freeroll today (Tuesday, June 5).

The Daily Fantasy Sports scene continues to grow, but StarStreet has a pretty unique format. You have a budget of $100,000 to work with and you can pick your players however you want. You don't have to fill position/roster spots like P, 1B, CF, etc. Pick one Josh Hamilton, a couple shares of Albert Pujols, and use the rest of your budget to load up on Ryan Braun. Or pick the shortstop from every team in the AL if it works out. The point is, StarStreet’s $100 Freeroll on Tuesday, June 5th gives you a lot of freedom in setting your lineup.
