I think it seemed pretty standard. There are normally a few players top 60 players left over due to imbalanced keeper lists and young players with potential being kept. The impact may even have been limited this year with the laste trades.

Yeah, the player I think we are all thinking of was *very* high on my list. High enough that he was one of my honest considerations. But I figured while I want to win and just about anything goes, taking advantage of a mis-click or clerical error just didn't feel right.

Houston - we have a problem. Zach Greinke is showing up as the 15.02 pick before I do anything. I think we're goign to have to take him off the roster and add him back onto Loki's roster after the fact. I've been at it for 25 mins and can't fix it.

67Khahan

Same with Chris Sale for Loki. I think it has to do with the way yahoo sets up their input data and the fact that Loki traded ahead and finished his draft early. Its pulling keepers into his slot because the rest are all filled. We'll just fix it later.

68Khahan

actually I think its fixed now. I moved sale and greinke into round 17 which is the first of the keeper rounds.

Hopefully next year for keeper settings Yahoo sets it so when we enter keepers they come out of the draft sheet altogether. A 24 man roster with 7 keepers should simply be a 17 round draft. Not a 24 round draft with the last 7 rounds pre-filled.

Very surprised at how far some of the veterans dropped. Mauer, Wieters, Rosario, Cain, Verlander, even ARod and Lawrie. I know they have some major flaws but still surprising to see them go in round 21-22-23.

Will be interesting to see if any of them turn out to be a steal or just late round fodder.

I have 4 points of discussion that I find to be important:

1. Post 97 sure does seem to allow Oliveras.
2. DPR sure did seem to do a lot of research to discover post 97...kudos.
3. Post 97 makes a reference to Barilko's magic rabbit, which is definitely cool.
4. I have no choice but to add this decision making time to DPR's official draft clock, which now moves me up to Fastest Drafter.

Thanks Khahan for handling all this. Based on that ruling I think its pretty clear he can picked and just have a placeholder so thanks for dpr's research.

One of these I will try and make a master constitution. But this work situation with everything blocked is gonna kill me for a while.

Barilko, one thing I did notice going back through the threads was the time you used to put into your season projections and draft recap. Without that completed I will have to increase your draft clock and regain my title

haha...yeah I remember doing those recaps. I enjoyed doing them but found they usually garnered only 2 or 3 comments, so I didn't think it was worth the energy.

My predictions this year:

1. Barilko
2. It doesn't matter who finishes 2nd. Nobody cares. (Unless I actually finish 2nd, then its kind of a big deal)

Some qualitative some quantitative

Using last years standings:

DPR: Best manager, best players, best draft. But really pretty confident I should have a high ranking finish again this year. Coming off a title I return a very strong keeper list (6 players who would go in the first 2 rounds, although Rendon injury causes him to slip) set me up well. I had to scramble a but mid-draft to get some closers but think I came out alright here. Favorite picks: Cobb and Correia. Least Favorite: Lucroy (Catchers went late).

Holt: Starting from the keeper list I would see a bit of regression from last years finish as there is only one consensus player from the first 3 rounds. Lot of potential with Soler and Betts, however. Love to see those players on teams trying to reach the top but undecided on teams that are already there. Looking over the draft not much stands out to excite me (for someone picking in front of me I am not sure ever stole my guy) but HOLT has proven himself to be a top finisher so certainly wouldnt count him out.

Barilko: I like the first few picks as safe bets and a bounceback from Trumbo but looks like there was a lot of risk taken for upside after that. Favorite picks: Gordon and Buxton. Least Favorite: Perkins, Kennedy

WG: WG definitely likes the talented prospects and when they break out like Stanton last year it can mean big things for his team. Upton or Heyward moving further towards elite would be big for this team. Despite that, many of his early picks were older players where he is hoping for a bounceback. Favorite picks: Britton, Clippard, Rodon. Least Favorite: Rollins.

Astade: Astade started with one of the best keeper lists in my opinion and could be ready to break into the top tier. Altulve, Kluber and Brantley represent some of the biggest breakouts of last season (he also drafted Bautista), there ability to repeat there performances will be key. Two of his early pciks could have oppurtunity issues (betances and Castillo) but also have great upsiude. If he duplicates that level of drafting, we all could be in trouble. Favorite picks: McCann, Morse. Least Favorite: Betances

Tree: Lots of power amongst his keepers as well as some solid pitchers. Not sure on gonig 2b, 2b to start but I guess both offer some upside. This team as been competing for a couple years now, lets see if can climb to the top. I like the Darvish pick. A rebuilding squad should have picked him up rounds earlier. Favorite picks: Polanco, Darvish. Least Favorite: Wong.

DaBomb: This was a team that a few years ago looked to be stacked with studs, but with age and a few early declines now lacks the top tier talent and youth to make it to the top (something I need to be careful of). Still the team has talent and contributed to my issues finding closers. Favorite picks: Gray and LaRoche. Least Favorite: harrison.

GO: Another team that began a slide seems to be set to continue. Bouncebacks and healthy seasons by Fielder, Cargo and Harper could prove me wrong however. Still, I consider, Moncada a complete waste of a pick and see a lotta risks with other drafts as well. That can be a good strategy to find a diamond or two and improve the keeper list for next year but not sure it will lead to a bouncceback.
Favorite picks: Eaton, Duffy. Least Favorite: Moncada

PeteN: Not predicting a move to the top but I like this team as one well positioned to move up over time. Some nice young talents (bryant obviously) as well as solid established players. Longoria represnets a great get a keeper level player with potential for more. I am not sure if he likes set up men for ratios o or is gambling they get elite closer jobs and cant be flipped for the future. Favorite picks: Longoria, Adams. Least Favorite: Davis

Khahan: I like Davis for a bounceback but am not seeing much elite talent here, however there are some young players who could make that jump. I like the early picks as they are slanted towards young who have gotten there feet wet and could easily become keepers next year. Favorite picks: Richards and Russell. Least Favorite: K-Rod

Loki: Looking at the keeper list I would have thought this was a podium team. Obviously Goldschmidts return helps this team but there is certainly a lot of talent. 6/7 represent very strong keepers and Pederson represents a great prospect (not sure I like the gamble in the keeper list however). Early picks are mostly safe but should round out this team for a huge move up the standings. Favorite picks: Carter and Molina. Least Favorite: Kendrick

Perm Dude: A lot of safe picks of older players. As a team rebuilding, I am not sure that is the direction I would look to go. The safety of the picks could mean moving out of the cellar but I dont see the upside to move out of the last few spots for awhile.

Now for the quantitative. I tracked the draft in a consensus estimate calculator I found online and then only included what I considered to be the teams starting lineups. 10 hitters and around 1200 innings as most seemed around there despite the cap. I then made all counting stats other than saves rate categories to account for differences in ABs/IP given my assumptions. (formatting to follow in seperate post)

Very nice write up!

My strategy this year was to punt starting pitching to a certain extent, go with sleepers and then play the wire.

Doing that meant stocking up on strong hitters which I feel good about.

Had no plans to grab Buxton but felt he was just falling way too far to pass on.

I'll send out some thoughts this weekend or on Monday.

Happy Easter all!

Perm Dude - definitely improved his team. While I dont think he'll be competing this year he certainly will improve upon his last place finish last year (i'm thinking 8th or 9th). He's got a few players that would have been better to have been drafted on a contending team. They dont have much keeper value and while they can contribute I just dont think its enough. I think he needs to turn over some of his keepers as well, getting aggressive with the young players. He has a few keeper worthy to build around though.

Loki: I'm not really sure how he finished as low as he did last year. He's got a good set of keepers as a foundation to build from. Like PD, he didn't take many chances on young players in the draft. I see loki in the top half of the league though not necessarily competing for the money. He's got a good power base in rizzo/goldschmidt and carter can hit HR. But sandoval is not really a HR hitter, kendrick doens't hit hr. There are teams that can keep pace with his top 3 power hitters and have other contributors. Same with his speed. Ellsbury, cain, escobar for SB and not much else. Small contributions here and there.

Khahan: 3 names that worry me: billy hamilton, dee gordon, chris davis. If the 3 of them can't take a step forward in contact from last season they may not be worth the keeper spots. But if they can (and 2 have a good chance of improving on last year while 1 should still hit sufficiently to get on and steal) then I'm middle of the pack and would consider myself the dark horse to compete for the $$$. I have a lot of risk on my team though. Pujols, davis and machado can each approach or exceed 30 HR. d'arnaud, garcia, walker and calhoun can all be in that 20-25 hr range. Gordon and hamilton give me SB but I'll get double digit contributions from yelich, calhoun, zobrist. Lots of risk on my team from young developing players and aging veterans but next seasons keeper list *should* be very difficult to whittle down.

Pete N: A mix of old and new. I think he finds himself in the bottom half again in 2015 but he's got some interesting choices to make next year. I think a team that probably wont be contending can do better than a closer in round 2. But he does have some picks that will make nice potential keepers next year. Solid list for this year, too.

GO: Harper has never lived up to potential but who wouldn't keep him? Cargo is always injured, fielder is a big fat and a question mark, bogaerts has yet to prove he's a major league player. I think GO finishes right about the same spot in 2015 but he has some risk that could pay off big time in bogaerts, tomas, giles, eaton, fielder. And some nice young building blocks like harper, posey and arenado. Maybe not this year, but next year I think GO is competitive.

Da Bomb: I wasn't sure what I thought of da bomb at first but the more I look at his roster the more I like it. I think he jumps with me into the top half of the standings this year. I dont know how many years kemp and reyes have as keepers, but jones, donaldson and dickerson certainly should have long shelf life. He didn't pick up any new hitters except maybe blackmon and harrison that have keeper potential. But I dont know if either of them are better than who he has now.

Tree: Trout should have targeted speed, speed and more speed in the draft. With trout, abreu, cespedes and beltre he has the power in his keepers to take first in rbi's and hr. With teheran and harvey as pitchers he is better SP shape than many. He went half heartedly at speed with kipnis and andrus giving him 2 guys that can steal 25-30 but not much else. Still he'll be in the upper half and had a strong draft with some strong future keeper picks, swiping Francisco lindor from me.

Astade: astade is one I think unfortunately will fall to the bottom half of the standings this year. He's got Altuve and Bautista for powre and speed. He's got REALLY solid pitching. But he doesn't really have any hitters that can put a whole category on their back and carry him. He's almost 'too' well rounded in a weird way.

WG: Here's another team that I think falls out of the top half of the standings. Fernandez on the shelf most of the season, Upton in a park that is not designed for his hitting (ie power drop). He's a lot like Astade - a lot of good players. A solid anchor in the likes of Stanton. But I just dont see him with the raw numbers from the rest of his team to stay competitive. Also not sure what he's doing with his keepers. Nobody in his draft jumps out as keeper upgrades for him. Again, nice players - nobody is going to complain at this point about having Alex Wood and Tyson ross as your #3 and 4 starters. But would they make his keeper list next year over who he has? Same with his hitters.

Barilko: I think Barilko goes right back where he was this year. Top half and competing for the money. Strong keepers, well rounded stat contributions. His pitching is very strong and has some picks who could crack his keeper list next year. His RP is top notch. His power is strong. The only thing that may hold him back is speed. Span - his best base stealer - is injured at the moment.

Holt and Dale I'm going to lump together: Both teams will not just be in the top half but seriously competing for the money. Strong teams. Well rounded. Strong drafts for both. either with a keeper list that is ready for this year and beyond but both with a player or two drafted who could actually improve their lists.

105 - true its not a real reach. But for you to step into the top half somebody else has to fall out. As I look over my writings again I realize that Im putting in for 3 teams to possibly make the top half that didn't last year but only 2 of them fall out of the top half.

Dirty Dozen 2015 Team evaluations

The past 4 seasons I have finished 9th, 9th, 9th and 10th, so take my evaluations with a grain of salt. Please, nobody take offense.
In reverse order from DD 2014:

PermDude-I think that PD is building from a weak set of keepers, and in most areas did not improve substantially in the draft. Aside from Wainwright, I do not see much pitching, and unfortunately the hitting does not stand out. His team is also weak in SBs and SVs, and I see another finish towards the bottom of our league.

Loki-For the 1st time in years I actually like my team. My hitting is strong anchored by Goldschmidt, Puig, Rizzo and Ellsbury as is my pitching led by Sale and Greinke. Archie Bradley and Joc Pederson are wild cards, but if they perform, they will enhance what I hope is a strong team. Last year I was hurt by injuries and underperformances, and if those can be avoided, I expect a strong season.

Khahan-I think that Khahan’s team can go either way. If his young players such as deGrom, Hamilton, Gordon, Yelich and d’Arnaud perform well, and if Pujols bounces back, I think he will do well. Otherwise it will be a long season.

PeterN.-Max Scherzer at the top of the rotation will do well, and the hitting led by Braun, Desmond, Longoria and Bryant should enable Pete to improve to the middle of the pack. I expect Bryant to have a monster year and battle Pederson for NL ROY. Bryant could have a Mike Trout type of season, and if so Pete could finish near the top.

GO-I think that GO will have a bounce back season. It will take Prince Fielder about 2 more months to regain all his strength, and then he will be back to his old ways. Bryce Harper will have an injury-free season and finally reach his potential. I like his SPs and RPs, and I think that Verlander will have a near Verlander-like season.

DaBomb-I like DaBomb’s hitting, pitching and closers. Kemp, Votto and ARod will all perform surprisingly well, and I see DaBomb near the top of the league.

Tree-Tree’s hitting is very strong, and I like the drafting of Pedro Alvarez. He is going to hit a lot of HRs, and I think that he will hit for a higher average this year. A team with Trout and Abreu will always be a contender, and if his pitching performs well, Tree could be our race winner.

Astade-Astade has a very strong team, well balanced in hitting and pitching. I particularly like Bumgardner and Kluber, and I think that if Pineda stays healthy, he will be among the leaders in pitching. Brantley, Altuve and Bautista are all good hitters. I think that Astade will be near the top of the standings.

WG-Good core of hitters and pitchers, but after these there is a drop-off. I see a middle of the pack finish.

Barilko-Good hitting, SPs and closers. I think barilko’s season will depend on the health of his older players. If they stay healthy, he will have a good season, if not, then a 2nd division finish.

Holt-Having Kershaw is like having Trout; it sets his team up for the entire season. Along with pitchers Cueto and Melancon and hitters Cruz, Betts, Marte and Gonzalez, Holt is in for another strong season.

Dpr-Looking at dpr’s keepers, I wonder how it was possible to accumulate such a strong group. These along with a very good draft, makes dpr one of the top teams and will be fighting Tree for the top spot.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND A HAPPY EASTER AND PASSOVER!!!!

Thanks.
I became aware of Alvarez when he played high school ball in NYC and liked him enough to pick him up as a keeper in 2010. I always thought that he had the potential to hit for a higher average, and even though it is just spring training, he did bat .325. I drafted him in RIBC AAA this season.

A day late...but here are my draft thoughts:

Great One: First quick impression: a couple of wasted roster spots on The Cubans. (Although the roster size in this league means that it’s not as much as a detriment). Not too much depth at pitching, especially with the injuries, but Starting Pitching is the easiest thing to grab off the wire. Weak at closer as well. Bats are the strength of this team, especially if Prince, Cargo, Posey and Harper can put up full seasons that match their skill. Not as big of a fan of Xander as most, but he grabbed Revere as he sat first in my queue!

Astade: Lots of bats here too. From Hose A (Altuve) to Hose B (Bautista), and then sprinkle in Seager, Ozuna, Brantley and Castro. And then some nice sleepers in Rios and Moss. Some guys won’t post similar stats to last year though, like Turner and Morneau. And Altuve? Good starting pitching with Kluber, Bumgarner, Pineda, but then it drops off fast. (Not a fan of Anibal or Ryu). A collection of ragtag closers until Jansen gets back, this team, like GO, will need to work the wire hard for saves.

WG: First impression....WG needs some Avg. guys to pop up out of somewhere! I like the buy low on guys like Rollins and Zimmerman. I’ve never been a big Heyward fan, I don’t see his draft value matching his fantasy value, both historically and for the future. Stanton is a monster, and now has some good bats around him, which helps. I feel Cano will have a better season than last year. I like the Strasburg, Ross, Wood trio at SP, and there’s some saves here, but mostly on the DL. Fernandez coming back will help, but I don’t see him helping this year at all. Rodon will be money, but not this year either. A middle of the pack team here.

Da Bomb: First impression...A-Rod! That being said, this team is very strongly tied to injury risks. From Hamilton to Votto, to Werth to Wieters to Reyes to Kemp to Tanaka to Iwakuma. I think a good percentage of those guys end up spending a good chunk on the DL this year. Otherwise, stocking up on Colorado OFs is always a good move, at least when at home. Donaldson is one of my favorites. Adam Jones is great outside of OBP leagues. If Kemp can find his way back, and half the hitters mentioned stay healthy for 145+ games, then the hitting is there. Punting catcher is never a strategy I would employ though. Pitching is weak, but as mentioned before it’s the easiest spot to stream, and DaBomb works the wire better than most. Same with Saves. A good team all around, but totally tied to health.

Loki: Some great hitting keepers with Goldschmidt, Ellsbury, Puig, Rizzo and a flyer on Joc. I like Cain, Alcides, Sandoval, Kendrick and Martin as solid core guys too. Cuddyer won’t repeat his Rockie stats. Carter will hammer the avg., but there is enough help here to overcome that I think. Starting pitching is weak, especially with Sale out. Loki went with a lot of prospects at SP, guys like Noah, Urias, Bradley. Not sure if this is a rebuilding team or someone who wants to go for it. It looks 50-50 to me, with a lot of veterans mixed with a lot of rebuilding pieces. There are definite moves I would make here depending on what Loki chooses to do.

Holt: First impression....Why is Adrian Gonzalez always severely underrated in fantasy? Lots of guys I was targeting here in drafts, including Belt, Soler, Crawford, JD Martinez, Melancon, and Cueto. Starting pitching looks solid, but there’s no depth. Kershaw, Cueto, Arrieta is a great 1-2-3. Not as high on McHugh, but Wacha could be good. I don’t see Cruz matching last year’s stats in Safeco, but overall there is a good mix of categories on the offense.

Russell: Strong, strong keepers. I think Miggy was underrated in most drafts this year, often dropping to 7th or lower. Edwin, Miggy, Gomez, McCutchen, Rendon, Felix, and Hamels. The best set of keepers of any team. And then adding guys like Pence, Wright, Lucroy and Carrasco really helped. Added in some hot sleepers in Paxton, Hahn, Cobb, and CMartinez. Lots of great moves here, and a definite contender for the top. Age will be a concern for this team a one point, and there aren’t many saves to be found on the roster right now. Some younger talent includes Semien, Souza and Correa...if they can live up to the hype. Maybin moving to Atlanta helps a lot. I love Everth as a late round flyer.

Tree: When you throw Abreu, Trout and Beltre together you’ve got a solid core. Gattis, Kipnis, Polanco, and Andrus are nice rounding out pieces. Not sold on Alvarez, Cespedes, and Myers. Lots of young guys here too, which doesn’t fit with what I see as a contending team. Lindor is one of those guys who will be much more valuable on the field than in fantasy, Gallo is a year or two away, and Alcantara is a wild card. Hosmer is a buy low. Some nice pieces on the pitching staff, including Harvey, Teheran, and Fister. But wins with this current squad will be hard to come by, but waiver adds will ensure. Tough news with Salazar and Gausman. The Jays homer in me likes Aaron Sanchez, but he’s not the best they have...but was a nice late round get. Chapman is the top closer, bar none. Cecil helps get some more saves too.

Khahan: There are a couple of cross your fingers keepers here. Can Pujols get back to the premier stud he once was? (I think he increases his stats across the board this year.) Can Chris Davis rebound. (I say No), Can Dee Gordon rebound from a bad second half (Somewhat...but not great), Can Billy Hamilton get on base? (He will improve). Can Yelich break out with all his talent? I like the addition of guys like Machado and d’Arnaud, but can they stay healthy? Walker is always underrated in fantasy. Avisail is a solid sleeper and Zobrist is a nice guy to plug and play. Lots of prospects on this team, which I actually think is the right strategy for a rebuild. I don’t like the SP here. deGrom will recede I think. Tillman is ok, but not as a fantasy ace. Richards too. Lots of saves here, which can be valuable trade pieces later in the season. Allen is the real deal.

PermDudes: First impressions: a lot of veterans on this team. Older guys. Kinsler, VMart, Holliday, Melky, Bruce, Gardner (who was scooped just ahead of me...boo), Choo, Byrd, Napoli, and Daniel Murphy (another guy scooped just ahead of me). No real young guys to rebuild around here. And no real “exciting” pieces either. Some good pitching though, if Yordano and Wainwright can stay healthy. Samar, Dickey, Burnett, Gio and Latos are always underrated. Some saves here, but not many. Cishek should be a trade chip later in the season. Would look to trade some of these veterans to a contender for some youth later in the season.

PeterN: Owns the Spring Training MVP with Zunino! Can he improve upon a putrid .199 avg? Some nice younger pieces in Jace Peterson, Leonys Martin, Desmond, Freeman, and Dozier. But the batting average for this team! A healthy return by Braun would help a lot. Mesoraco is also nice if he can repeat. Kris Bryant is obviously the star of this offense though....when he gets back to the big leagues that is. Some nice pieces on the pitching staff....Cole, Scherzer, and Bauer should help. Shelby needs to figure things out. Rosenthal is a great option for saves, but the rest of the RP is filled with next-in-line guys. Cain and Weaver don’t help much in my eyes.

Barilko: My favorite team! WOW! Sadly I always, always seem to fall in love with my drafts and then start trading immediately. A complete oxymoron. Went with an all-hitting strategy this year, as I felt there were a lot of pitching bargains to be had late. I honestly don’t see a lot of holes on my offense right now, other than needing some help with SBs and Avg. Otherwise I like how things slot out so far. Not a lot of depth on offense though, but a lot of interchangeable pieces, which helps. Like a rebound season from Pedroia, thought Gordon dropped way too far, and hope for healthy seasons from Hanley and Tulo. Span being out hurts, but hopefully he comes back quick. Buxton wasn’t on my list of guys to get, but he dropped way too far for me to let slide. Tried to target some high ceiling SP, and thought it went well. There were some guys I missed out on, others that I went too early on, but am happy with how things went. I don’t have a true ace, but have a couple guys who could break out. I figure to be among the contenders!

So I now have 5 of my first 7 picks on the DL (granted I drafted 2) with the others being Carrasco who was injured and pretty much missed a start and Benoit who might as well have gotten injured. Also have 2 keepers on the DL.

Definitely isnt starting out as my year despite having maybe the two best break out players so far

I am still holding middle of the pack so I am hoping that once I get healthy (none of the injuries are season ending, and all could be back 2-4 weeks) I can move up. Injuries and losing my closers definitely puts a hamper on a title defense but still think can contend for a podium finish, especially once some of my keepers get going.

I like your pick up of Corey Seager. I watch the Dodger prospects more closely than any others. I think he will be a star, but will not contribute until at least 2016, and I am going for the podium this season. I drafted 3 prospects, but except for Urias, I drafted 2 that I thought would contribute this year. I considered Seager, but opted for Urias instead.

I picked him up on some good news about potential playing time this year. It seems they are moving him around a but so he should be next man up at both SS/3b so he has a few ways to make the bigs. Think my focus is a bit all over the place the right now as I am playing without a bench but I do expect my team to make a big move up the standings this next month.

No but I think my team is in a huge hole because of those two and at one point having 5 top 100 hitters on the DL.

If my team hits .280 the rest of the way which was best in the league last year I end up at .272, assuming we are 1/6 through the season, which was good for 5th so the deficit is significant. The other hitting categories look better at least for top 3 finishes. I actually wouldn't be surprised if my team had the best hitting ROS at least starting from a few weeks from now but that may not be enough.

Pitching I have similar problems and those appear more systematic where I don't have DLed guys about to return or 1st rounders ready to bounce back.

My team will move up in the standings, and I would have a hard time making a move right now to totally give up on the season, but this first month has left a team that should be competing for the title looking at likely mid-tier finish.

I enjoyed my week in 1st place, but with Yasiel Puig out for so long it was only a matter of time until I fell out of the lead.
I need to vent about the Mattingly and the Dodger medical team.
Puig injured his hamstring on 4/24, aggravated it on 4/26, reinjured during rehabbing on 5/8 and did not have an MRI until 5/11. Puig should have had a diagnostic MRI at the time of injury and then serial MRIs to gauge the healing of the muscle and to guide his rehab. It is not as if a team with a $250,000,000 payroll has to worry about getting preauthorization from Puig's insurance company, like the rest of us. Had they used what should be standard of care with a professional athlete, he would be back much sooner than what is in the cards for him now. I am not surprised about Mattingly because he has shown his incompetence as a manager before, but the Dodgers' orthopedist should have know better.

Cody Allen - struggled early in the season but calming down. 5 for his last 5 save opps. over the past 2 weeks 2.45 era with 10k's in 7.1 innings

Koji Uehara - top 75 player. 10 saves overall. 15k's in 13 innings

Francisco Rodriguez - 8 saves on the season 17k's in 15 innings, 1.20 ERA .73 whip. He's still K-Rod

AJ Ramos - Took over the closer role from an imploded Steve Cisek. .90 ERA .75 whip 26K's in 20 innings.

I'm still looking for a viable, keeper-worthy 1st baseman. Have Pujols and Chris Davis. Both are hitting solid power but their BA is just not what I'm looking for. I also have plenty of young high-ceiling outfielders (Avisail Garcia, Cole Kalhoun, Billy Hamilton, Christian Yelich) and young ace-type pitchers (Jacob DeGrom who just 1 hit the Cardinals, Jordan Zimmerman 2.37 ERa over the past 2 weeks, Garrett Richards and Jose Quintana). All moving pieces for big deals.

On another note, I am really glad that I accepted Jam Block's trade offer before tonight's game.
From RotoWire:
Moustakas left Saturday's game with a left clavicle contusion, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The injury occurred when a groundball at third base caught Moustakas near the collarbone area. Christian Colon came into the game and would be in line to start at the hot corner if Moustakas is forced to miss additional time.

If it is a fracture, Moustakas will be out at least 8 weeks. Hoping for just a bad contusion.

the worse case scenario happened a couple years ago for me.

on 8/13/13, i traded Stanton/Byrd/Strasburg/Cole/Lackey for Heyward/Mauer/E. Cabrera/Chapman/Betancourt in an effort to chase some categories and rise up the standings.

8 days later, Heyward was beaned in the face, and hasn't been the same since. he wasn't even a keeper for me this season.

Well time for the mid-season review. And its not pretty. I'll start with the ugly:
Underperformance was the name of my first half. I was not predicting/expecting Kalhoun, Yelich and Garcia to be top 50 players but somewhere in the 75-90 range seemed reasonable for each of them with the most potential in Yelich. Out of those 3 the highest ranked one is Kalhoun at 137. Injuries and a slow start have really delraied yelich's contributions overall and Avisail was just given his pink slip.
Aside from that Neil Walker has had 2 good weeks overall. Billy Hamilton is hitting .30 to .40 points below what I expected his average to be. Even Chris Davis who I didn't expect much more than HR from is hitting below his predicated average (would have thought he'd be in the .245 to .255 range..he's not). Travis D'arnaud has been hurt most of the season. My pitching overall isn't much better.
Pitching isn't as bad as it looks in the standings despite more than disappointing first halves from the recently departed Jordan Zimmerman and the underperforming Garrett Richards. I'm 77 IP under cap. Give me those innings and reasonable amount of Ws and K's and I probably add 8-10 points in the overall standings (wins are very tightly packed if you guys haven't noticed). Those points are enough to vault me into 7th, just 2 points out from 5th. I can/will make those innings up.

The good - My rounds 1 and 2 picks (Machado and DeGrom) are doing exactly what I want from rounds 1 and 2 picks. Currently ranked 8th and 15th respectively, they are both young and talented enough to maintain those numbers for years to come. They can easily displace Jordan Zimmerman and Cole Kalhoun on my keeper list.
Pujols started a bit slower than I'd like but put up a pretty historic run towards the end of the first half here. Despite his overall low numbers Yelich is starting to play like I expected. Over the past 30 days he's the 87th overall ranked player batting .345.
Chris Davis is also batting about .247 over that same time period.

2nd half outlook - digging out from the hole I was in is, well, impossible. I expected some underperforming. But the sheer number of players who underperformed and the lengths they went to in their floundering incompetence was just too much. However using the last 30 days as a barometer I like what I should do in the 2nd half. I'd like to see Davis put up another 15 HR and keep his BA around .245. Pujols can hit another 15-20HR and hit around .260 and I'll be happy. If Yelich can maintain his 30 day pace that would be good.

Outlook for 2016 - should have good keepers. right now the list looks like: pujols, machado, degrom, yelich, billy Hamilton, dee Gordon, Addison russel/kyle schwarber/Javier baez.
I wouldn't mind that last slot for russel/schwarber/baez to be claimed by another solid pitcher.

I got a round 2 and singleton is there but his call up has been more disappointment. Even last year when he redefined the mendoza line he was cranking home runs. This year nothing so far. Not saying he's out the question if he turns it around, but considering how he's (not) hitting, would you keep him if we had to declare today?

My season has been discouraging so far and full of underperformance across the board. I went from the top contender to a

I had 6 keepers who were in the top 18 ADP going into the draft and none have matched that. Rendon was two weeks away from returning for 2 months and then went back to the DL the last month. Gomez/EE have been hobbled by small injuries keeping them far from their potential but hopefully should be able to turn it around (gomez already is). McCutchen and Felix have been good enough to not hurt me but not to carry a team. Miggy was performing as expected prior to needing to miss 6 weeks.

The draft went terribly as I took some unnecessary risk and I lost 2 stable closers prior to their first appearance. Out of my first 14 picks only 2 have contributed in a positive way. Ouch.

Luckily the future looks bright. I still have those 6 elite talents who while a couple may have taken a step back all still should provide elite production. On top of that I have added 3 of the best rookies in the game in Correa/seager/sano as well as CMart while retaining Hamels and a now healthy Pence. Each of these players could be top 50 going into next year giving me 12 options to pick only 7 from. Hopefully I can swing some interesting deals to either contenders this year, or people looking to augment a keeper list either now or in the off season

Also, I was at the game when Familia blew the save. It is possible that Clippard will be closing for the Mets.

Mattingly again showed himself to be an exceptionally poor manager in that game. He made a double switch taking out Puig with one of the strongest arms in the game. In extra innings you need his defense even if Puig was not hitting well that day. Granderson then proceeded to stretch a single to right into a double, and then scored the winning run. He never would have run on Puig (no one does anymore), and if he had, he would have been thrown out.
I am still burning about when Mattingly pinch ran for Gonzalez in the playoffs. He not only took a top hitter out in a close game, but he did not let the pinch runner, Dee Gordon, steal.

Hey guys, its running low on time to make deals - a few weeks at best. I honestly think the way my team is hitting I can climb in the standings (at the AS break for example I was 15 HR behind the next 2 people ahead of me, I'm now 6 and 7 behind respectively, BA is rising, rbis are piling up, but I had such a horrendous first 2 months that its big holes to dig out of).

Anyway I have a lot of great assets available to contending teams:

1. Chris Davis - he's climbed to be the 50th ranked overall player to date in the season. Over the last 30 days (a good chunk of time) he has been the 18th ranked and the past 2 weeks the 3rd. He's heating up and showing no signs of slowing down.

2. Kole Calhoun - over the past 30 days he's only batted .337 with 6hr, 17rbi and 16 runs scored good for 18th during that time period. I had a lot of inquiries about him last year. More willing to move him this year as I dont want to keep 3 OF's again

3. Neil Walker - power at 2nd base is starting to come thru. Since the end of June he's been about what people expect: .270 BA with 7 HR

4. Dee Gordon - he's only batting .329 and second in SB with 34 at a very shallow position.

on the pitching side:

5. Hector Santiago - Here's his line on the season: 123.1 IP 7W 115 K's 2.70 1.18 on a loaded Angels line up. He's pitching well, could be a potential keeper next year and getting run support now that the Angels are actually playing baseball

6. Andrew Heaney - see Santiago: 45.2 IP 5W 34 K's
1.97 0.90 His K/9 could use some work but that ERA and whip. This is a highly touted prospect that was bounced around in some major deals over the last off season. Now we're seeing why.

7. Aaron Nola - in 3 games he has 2 wins, 15k's, 3.38 ERA .96 whip. He's got some good defense in the infield and is the prize of the Phillies farm system finally in the majors (at least for pitchers).

8. 4 closers wasting away on a low ranked team. I'd rather get something for them for next year than vapid stats that dont amount to me climbing the ranks this year: Koji Uehara, Fransisco Rodriguez, AJ Ramos and Cody Allen.

I'm looking for draft slot upgrades or bonafide keepers (am willing to move any player for bonafide keepers next year). What I'm NOT looking for is players with 'great potential to build around in the future years,' which a few have offered. They've been good, fair, balanced offers. But I have more players than I can keep that fall into that category. Adding more doesn't do much for me.

Right there is a list of 11 players who can impact your standings THIS season and depending on the depth of your team most of them are worth at least considering as keepers next season.

I am trying to be a seller too. My main goal is to upgrade my keeper list but I am beginning to open to selling my players for picks as well.

Currently Hamels, Sano, Teixeira, Pence, Carrasco, CMartinez, and CSeager are outside my keeper list and could be had for the right price. All of these players could also turn into keepers for most teams. Ideally I would pair them with an existing keeper (like EE,Felix, Rendon, Gomez, McCutchen, Miggy...aka not Correia) for a even better player (short list).

I also have closers Zeigler, Osuna, and Giles and hitters like Lucroy and LeMahieu who could be had cheap as their value goes to nil after the trade deadline.

Seems we should be able to work something out. Especially for one of the top teams wanting to make a difference this year, or for a rebuilding team looking to get a head start on next season.

I am holding on trying to make it into 3rd place. My chances to finish any higher went by the wayside when Yasiel Puig missed most of the season and then was hampered by his injuries when playing, Jacoby Ellsbury missed a month and then did not run when he returned (lost many points in SBs between Ellsbury and Puig), Joc Pedersen's unbelievably bad 2nd half (makes me wonder if he was another hitter hurt by the ASG home run derby) and Mike Moustakas not hitting after I gave up Noah Syndergaard for him.
Looking ahead to next year, but I gave up my 2nd round pick for Jordan Zimmerman who has not performed as I had expected.

Looking at the offseason and building towards 2016, I have the following players who are at least worthy of keeper consideration to varying levels:

Kyle Schwarber, Travis D'arnaud, Albert Pujols, Manny Machado, Chris Davis, Dee Gordon, Christian Yelich, Billy Hamilton, Kole Calhoun, Addison Russell, Javier Baez, Brandon Crawford, Jacob Degrom, Andrew Heaney, Aaron Nola

Can't even keep half of them and some are admittedly bubble keepers. But quite a few are great for building around. If you are rebuilding for next year (or 2017), replacing injuried or underperforming vets or just feel you need to revamp, rechange your roster - take a look at what I have and send an email. Nobody at this point is untouchable. Package deals, draft picks, player swaps. If its an improvement for me I'll take it.

I'm in a similar situation with (mostly) young keepers.

Abreu, Odor, Lindor, Polanco, Cespedes, Trout, CarGo (ok, seriously, how is he only 29??? and with a career high 39 homers so far?!!), Gallo, Kipnis, Harvey, Chapman, Stroman, Syndergaard, and, Yu.

pretty much most are untouchable, but i can't imagine moving Trout (i was made a very, very, very reasonable offer for him this season, and i almost took it, but i just couldn't quite pull the trigger). .

The rookie class this year is going to have a big impact on keeper lists for next year. I will be looking to be a seller as well feel I have potential 10 players who are top 84 keepers.

I have 3 SS alone who will likely be drafted top 50 next year (I know Sano will be losing the eligibility). On top of that I have rookies like Conforto and Osuna who I wouldn't expect to be keepers but are better than several of the names just pitched.

That's on top of my stars in McCutchen, Cabrera, EE, Rendon and potentially fading first rounders from this year in Felix and Gomez (how much does someone fall after a year to forget?)

Pence, Teixeira and LeMahieu all performed top 60 when healthy this year as well. Pitchers like Carrasco, Hamels, and Martinez also look like they should be in keeper conversations.

Going to be tough choices, but hopefully through some trades you guys will be able to help me out.

Thanks guys. It was a pretty tight race most of the way. Lots of fun. Congrats to Dabomb and, I'm not exactly sure who finished 3rd. Tree?

I think I have 3 3rd place finishes too. A couple may have been ties for 3rd.

Congratulations again to Holt for another great season and Da Bomb Squad and Tree for another top 3 performance. This has been a good year for Tree who took top honors in the 8 Men Out Keeper League, too!

Some interesting (at least to me) notes on stats accumulated thru the season:
Highest run total: Tree with 904
Lowest Run total: blue guy 669
differential: 235

HR: Tree 251 PD: 161 differential: 90

RBI: Holt: 876 Team Canada: 676 differential: 200

SB: Khahan: 181 blue Guy: 70 differential: 111

Saves: Team Canada: 148 Tree: 38 differential: 110

K's: Holt: 1364 blue Guy: 1095 differential: 269

That's some big numbers in those differences.

Tree and I are the only teams with 3 30+ home run players. I'm the only team with 2 50+ sb players (lots of good those 2 stats did me!!).
Hoboken Zephyrs, Tree and Da Bomb are the only teams with multiple 100 rbi players.

Tree Khahan and Hoboken are the only teams with multiple 100 run players.

Holt is the only team with 3 pitchers with 200K's or more (and the only one with 300 k's).

Only 13 pitchers in the majors had 15+ wins. Holt (3) and Team Canada (3) had just about half of them between their 2 rosters.

The Major League leader in saves (mark melancon) ended the season the waiver wire.

Before I talk rolling over next years entry with the winners... interest in upping the entry a few bucks? Simple majority wins.
Honestly I'll go as high as we get majority for, but at least hoping we go up a few dollars.

I would be in favor of increasing the fee. Hopefully would increase the interest in the league.

Rankings only mean so much but it looks like Cockcroft has 11 of my players in his top 84 keeper rankings. Should make for interesting decisions. Still, liked my list better last year when I probably had 6 top 24 guys and that didn't come close to paying off.

I've got 9 in the top 100 and 3 more (pujols/Calhoun/Crawford) in the next 20. I'm surprised to see Javier Baez so far down the list (144). And on the pitchers I'm not surprised Heaney and Nola aren't quite top 100 but I'm a bit surprised to find them so close to the top 200.

Still, 7 keepers thru 12 teams, if I kept based on Cockrofts list I'd have 8 keepers fall within that first 84 and the 7 highest would be:
machado, degrom, Gordon, schwarber, yelich, davis, Russell.

Interesting to see.

Ok, based on those responses my recommendation is we meet in the middle... lets go up 10 bucks and make it 30? any major objections? Going to settle up (including rollovers to pay next year) with our winners tomorrow so I want to come to a decision today.

When we started the Dirty Dozen I believe it was a 3 keeper league and we added 1 each year to get to 7. But nothing really ever said we had to stop there - that was just the original goal. Do we want to consider increasing the keeper count for 2017?

I'd like to propose we move to 8 keepers in 2017 and 9 keepers in 2018. But will gladly listen to other suggestions for other numbers.

Re:197

I really like this league, very competitive which makes it more fun for sure. But since I've joined a couple leagues with FAAB and another with salaries, I've started to lose interest in the idea of first one to the keyboard gets the next greatest thing.

Haha. Example...Everyone makes fun of me for overdrafting closers or keeping closes in this league, saying I'm crazy and then pointing out how many saves they got off the waiver wire, but I knew with my job/home life I would never be the guy to hit first on the wire, so my overcompensation would be to draft what I couldn't pick up.

This is for sure a great group, wish there was more banter and chat, but the competition was top notch. I've traded superstars for what turned into garbage and garbage that turned into other garbage! Trading was always a highlight for me, I had a couple guys here that I was able to chat with on a semi regular basis which was fun too.

I am also sorry that Jack will be leaving, but is it time to put out feelers for a replacement?
Also, is there any interest in changing to FAAB?
This is the only league that I play in besides RIBC, and I am looking forward to the season.

Thanks Loki. I'll miss playing this league, and will continue to check in for sure.

Now if this league adopted some sort of FAAB, I would be ecstatic. I think most leagues lean this way now, and I would be interested in looking at a league that offered that. (my other league does, but would love to have one more salary type league to play in.)

I have less than 0 interest to moving to FAAB. It is not something 'most leagues lean' towards. Its an optional way to play and an option I have no desire to be a part of.

re: 201

haha...don't worry man, I am not pushing for a change, which is the reason I've stepped down from this league rather than request a change.

But awarding guys for being able to get to their keyboards fastest isn't the best! That's why pretty much every football league nowadays runs a waiver system, which wasn't how things first were. (Times change!)

This is probably a good way to show my thoughts, from an ESPN article from 2012:

When I first started playing fantasy baseball, you were lucky to hear about an injury that occurred in a game played on the West Coast the same week it took place. In today's day and age, you can be at the North Pole and get near-immediate notification on your cell phone that Ryan Dempster stubbed his toe, along with super slo-mo video of the incident, mere moments after it happened. The game has changed.

Perhaps that's why I don't understand why people remain content to play in leagues where having a fast Internet connection trumps having actual baseball knowledge. Yet, for many fantasy leagues, the waiver wire is still run as a first-come, first-served, all-you-can-eat buffet. The alternative, where a team that makes a free-agent claim moves to the back of the line in the waiver wire pecking order, doesn't seem quite right to me either. Why should an owner's season-long inactivity suddenly be rewarded by giving him first dibs on a hot September call-up? There's got to be a better way!

I have a few people I can ask - not 100% certain any will be interested. But I wasn't sure if we wanted to open it up to gurupies first. Traditionally a simple post seeking new manager gets a few interested candidates from the boards here.

Hey everyone, sorry for the late word but I am probably not going to return this year either. I love fantasy baseball as much as anyone but am both having difficulty devoting the time for it and losing interest in the daily grind. I was a bit of an absentee owner last year and I think it would be more fair to allow someone who has both the time and passion to take my spot this year. Good luck to you all, and I hope a replacement can be found for me in short order.

Barilko; Sorry to see you go. I agree I would like to see more activity in the league and always appreciated your eagerness in that respect.

I think we should halt offseason trading until we have decided on new managers (not that any is imminent necessarily). New managers are often the most willing to get deals completed and I would want to afford them the chance to get in on any extra keepers who may be available from some teams. (btw count me on the list looking to trade some extra players)
