Looking at starting up a new fantasy baseball league that would be using FAAB. Would be a standard 5x5 league or points league, we could discuss other parameters such as keepers/prospects/etc.
Just curious if there is enough interest to set something up here.

So, barilko, should we make an ottoneu league with the six guys here and open it up to the public to fill in the rest? We only have a few weekends left before opening day, the first auction of a league can take 6-8 hours.

Yeah, $10 a team for a year. I am going to look into just setting up a Yahoo League that adopts the Ottoneu points structure, and run it as a H2H points style league with FAAB bidding each week.
How does that sound to all that are interested?

I don't think Yahoo offers ottoneu's point structure. I played in my first points league last year and I must tell you, the point structure is very important. I don't mind paying $10 for the year, I doubt anyone would. Ottoneu is a keeper league with a very robust set of rules. Keeper rules are the last thing you want to come up with, most of us have been in one of the keeper leagues on these boards and those rules are the most contentious.
I think the $10 is a bargain if you want this to be a keeper league.

I am ok with the $10. What about the rest?
On the other Yahoo now actually offers the option to set up any type of point structure that you want. I've created a test league and have all the actual points set, working on checking out the other parts of the league now.

I do see that you can create an ottoneu scoring system on the Yahoo platform. Yahoo has a max roster of 30 while it is 40 with minor leaguers in ottoneu. Still have many concerns with the keeper rules if we use Yahoo, no worries if it is ottoneu.
It looks like we have 8 or 9 interested players so far. I will feel more confident that the random dude we pick up to fill out the 12 team league from the ottoneu message board would be of high quality, where as the Yahoo board is a total crapshoot.
The most important thing, in my mind, is to decide when to hold the draft. I would suggest March 19 & 20 or 26 & 27. Which weekend works best for everyone?

Alright. For those that have expressed interest:
1. Are you willing to shell out $10 for a true Ottoneu league? The format is pretty detailed and indepth so as SZ mentioned, doing it there is probably best.
2. Which of the following 3 weekends are preferred. Please mention both of they both work.

my problem would not been the 10$ or which weekend, but the time and the length of the auction ... being in europe ...

I will be without cell service on mar 25 about 5pm mst for about 20 hours. so I really prefer to start the auction draft before that. Does anyone know the time limit on a player auction?

willing to pay the 10 bucks. Not sure I understand the draft part. Is it like a live auction? IF so how long do they usually take? Weekends are tough for me to give up the whole weekend.

It would be a live auction. Ottoneu allows you to split it in half so you can spend three or four hours each day rather than 6-8 in one sitting.
Either of the next two work for me, can't do April 2 & 3

Maybe we need to set the base of the league this year and start next year. That way we can do an online draft spread out in the forums here like all the other leagues. Then I can manually transfer the picks onto the Ottoneu site and we can run the league from that point on there.
We are short on managers and time at this point and I would love to get a solid foundation in place on year one because of the depth and year to year continuity involved.
I'll throw out a discussion thread in January and we will do this right rather than rush it out. I don't mind doing the extra legwork to make sure it's done right.
Thoughts on that?

Don't get cold feet now, Barilko. I will look into creating a ottoneu league with a draft this weekend. There is enough interest here that we can fill most of a 12 team league, the public can fill the rest.
Do people prefer morning, afternoon, evening? Please state which you prefer using Eastern time zone as the default. Do you want the auction split into two days of 3 hours each or one day of six hours?

I would be fine with $10, I could draft most anytime, but the 21-22nd and 28-29th aren't great days for me.

haha SZ....I would love to do it, but I can't do either of those weekends myself. Willing to step to the side if it works for others.
That being said, I always look to fill leagues with guys that have the long play on their mind, which is why I preferred to get a league set of guys from here. Especially if the league is one like this, with a huge carry over from season to season.
I am ok with you guys pushing forward though...online weekday drafts are much better for me, but that might make me the only one that feels that way.
I can sit in as a consultant to anyone who wants me! haha

Barilko, you can't do a draft with ottoneu, it must be an auction because you have to sign "contracts" for keepers and that requires an auction price. I don't want to rush into a keeper league, so let's do plan on creating one next year, starting the chatter in January with maybe an early March auction date to avoid conflicts with other league drafts.

an auction draft is going to take awhile, but is very doable. another option instead of waiting until next week, what if we started our draft the week the season started?
