With Guru stepping down, I'm curious if there was any thought about continuing the Invitational leagues. With baseball coming up, we probably need to start coming up with a plan, if we do, as a community, decide to continue the leagues, I'd be more than happy to help in any capacity, at least with baseball and football.
I also want to take the opportunity to thank Dave for this site and all the years of hard work he put into making this community of fantasy players what it is. I don't play fantasy with anyone else, so I appreciate it and definitely have an interest in keeping the leagues we all love going. |

Very respectable group of people here, it would be a shame to lose that.

Maybe we compile an interest list, then we can try to break off to RIBC and the AAA leagues based on last year's standings and assign commissioners.

I took over the RIHC when Guru dropped it, but this is our last year.
I was considering setting up a RIBC like league, only just use the default Yahoo league settings with 12-team leagues, and have on line drafts at specific times.
With that approach, the rule set is never in question, and the workload for the commish is minimized. We still could play with the same good competition every year, and have the hierarchical league structure that permits more than 12 players.

<4> GO, I am suggesting no slow draft. On line LIVE draft at a specific time, with a random order devised by Yahoo. Just like Yahoo public leagues, only with dependable competitive people. I could canvas folks to see what might be good times to set up the leagues for.
Let's say we put together three leagues in the first year, you could pick the league with the best time for you. The top league in year 2, would be the top four finishers of year 1 in each league. Half the top league will be relegated each year to make room for promotions. Make sense?
Nerf, I know everyone has their preferences in what ruleset we'd use, but this approach ensures that we don't ever have a rule debate. If Yahoo changes its default settings, we change with it.
Hey, it took real football a few decades to get everyone to agree to the same rules. Home field advantage was what rules you played by.
Anyway, if I get a few more to sound off here, I will press forward. Need 12 minimum.
So,if you are in, just post here, and we will proceed once we have 12. You could also give some personal parameters for draft time selection. Figure about a week before season start.

Hi! I would like to join the competition in the RIBC leagues. I would prefer the 16-team OBP/SLG format, but I am interested in any different format too.
The live draft is a good form, in other leagues we use it every year. There could be a little problem with choise the optimal time of te draft. I live in Europe, the difference between the Eastern time end our time is 6 hours. Between 6PM to 11PM Eastern time I usually sleep, but I am able to manage it if it is neccesary. In the weekend it is no problem, so I would prefer a weekend live draft (Friday eveneing or Saturday).

yes... we will do slow (Draftime.com) draft.. but our window for finishing by opening day is closing, so we may want to implement a 3 hour clock during US hours. Everyone who wants to participate should be aware of our small window to draft and be on board for picking relatively promptly to get 25 rounds, 400 picks in.

Does anyone want to volunteer to commish?
draftime.com has not launched yet for baseball 2022 but I emailed and they said ETA is 'sooner rather than later'. The commish should not be on the hook for the $10 fee so will ask that a few non-commishes help with this fee.
Can someone help ID who from this list was in the top10 of RIBC or top3 of one of the AAAs last year. They should be the RIBC majors, the rest go to AAA - I know there are some that qualify for the majors not returning so we can see who gets elevated one.

I was thinking about qualifying, and I'd like to propose the following:
Top 8 RIBC 2021 qualifies for RIBC.
Top 4 each AAA 2021 qualifies for RIBC.
We seem to be missing managers, so I would also propose priority for qualifying to RIBC as such:
9-10 RIBC
5-6 AAA
11-12 RIBC
7-10 AAA
Are there any thoughts or critiques to this proposal? This is generally close to what qualifying was before.

In 2021 Yahoo AAA the question didn't seem to arise.
I drafted batter 11th round, and pitcher 17th round.
Kept throughout the year.
Perhaps I should've campaigned for an extra roster spot, but it didn't seem to be worth the hassle this time around...
In 2020 Yahoo AAA the question did come up, and commish decided to treat him as one player where the owner could drop the batter for the pitcher on the day he pitched.
He only pitched 2 times in 2020, and it looks like someone else added him instead of the owner that should have had him. Not the smoothest handling in 2020.
For 2022, I would say that commish should get to choose as a reward for stepping up.

Nerfherders and I were discussing the set up.
We are going to clone the set up for 2021
We had a 26th roster spot but still drafted 25 rounds.
We had one IL slot. The IL ‘guru house rule‘ I recall is you could not pick up a player on while IL and stow him in your IL.
Draftime has not launched yet so I would like to have a 3 hour clock but will defer if the consensus is 4 or longer, I know we have folks outside the US so a shorter clock would possibly impact then more so speak up. It is likely the draft will not completed by opening day 4/7, So we will load rosters on 4/6 based on the last complete round so we can all play our main picks and then load the rest post draft. Managers can pick up a player from there out while they draft them.
Hoping folks can help out and push the draft selection along.. if you know a contact number for the person up, reach out

If it is possible, I would like to see a clock that shortens as the draft progresses.
Example:
Round 1-5 we get 4 hour clock.
Round 6-10 is a 3 hour clock.
Round 11-15 is a 2 hour clock.
Round 16 to the end is a 1 hour clock.
By round 16 there's usually only 3-5 players being picked off my queue per round. Easy to replenish at the busiest of times.
Often names remain from my previous round's top 5-10 options by this point and I don't even have to replenish.
Being firmly against using a queue, even after pick 250 is a level of stubbornness that I can really appreciate, but the software we use makes it impossible for anyone to convince me that they need 3-4 hours for their late picks in a draft like this.

I like Filthy's clock idea.
Could even simplify it a bit and go 4 hours through round 13 and down to 2 for the rest of the draft.
It always stumps me about how long some picks after pick 250 take. Set some queues and keep things moving or miss a pick.

So sorry Matt… This thread was opened 5 weeks ago and for a while we struggled to round up people. Guru is retired, no one is in charge, no one owns custody of a global contact list for this, we all just tried to jointly put something together to keep this tradition going.

OK gang.. leagues are set and season is nearly underway.
With 2 leagues - RIBC (majors) and AAA in 2022 -
Any thoughts on to who gets promoted to RIBC / relegated to AAA for 2023?
My thoughts are top 8 in each advance to the majors and everyone else go to AAA. But lets decide now so there is no confusion.
Also I know some people were late in hearing about us continuing this (but not enough for another 16 in another AAA), so next year we take the 16 that qualify for RIBC, then the first 16 to commit to AAA until full.
Anyone who wants to get on the emailing list for next year that I and Nerf are compiling from this years participants plus those who missed out. Let me know here and I will add you.

I say this as someone who has never made it to the RIBC.
When we had multiple qualifying leagues it made sense to keep the top half (plus Guru) in the RIBC. Now that we have fewer qualifying leagues I think the RIBC should still remain more "exclusive." It's just my opinion, but I think the minimum should be top 12 stay in RIBC and the top 4 AAA get an invitation.

Top 8 sounds good to me. Don't know if you want to announce tiebreaker rules while you're at it.
Compiling all of the best ever lists gave me a glimpse into Guru's thought process. Guru seemed to kinda allow himself a little wiggle room. It was an invitational after all. If you haven't asked him already, you might want his input.
Just as an aside, if you lock it at exactly 8 from each league, then if you finish 9th, there's a pretty good chance your going to be in the majors next season, if history is any indicator. There are always a few people who don't come back.

I kind of like the idea of the top 7 RIBC and top 4 AAA automatically qualify, and then it trades off AAA/RIBC until we finish the top 16. If everyone comes back, that would be top 9/top 7. I would also say anyone who finishes 13th or worse cannot qualify for RIBC, unless we are out of managers.
This gives us a bit of wiggle room in case more managers who were in RIBC leave than who were in AAA, but also keeps RIBC a bit more exclusive.
