When #1 seeds are beaten, brackets are busted, but the tournament is enhanced. Triple-overtime games are pretty good, too. Hope you didn’t get stuck watching the other two games for too long. I finally got the sortable stats posted for the RotoHog baseball games – both versions of Salary Cap and the Stock Exchange game. Ditto for the Assimilator. Since the salary cap games are virtual clones of the TSN games, the transition was easy. The point formula is halved, but I think that’s the only material difference. Of course, the player pricing is rather odd, especially the pitcher prices, which seem to be about half of what they should be. Hard to image why Pujols should be worth $12.8m while Lincecum is worth only $6.2m. Obviously, that has significant strategy implications. Plan accordingly. |

Yep - a lot of things going on with the game this year.
Rotohog also has halved all of the points for everything - except saves, which were quartered. While the prices for ALL of the pitchers are cheap, the new scoring on the closers seems to put them out of the picture as holds for any real length of time, if at all.
A lot this year is going to depend on how they deal with the variables - price changes, etc. If everything is like last year, then people will have all-star teams in a big hurry. However, if price changes are substantially muted, then it could be a whole new kind of game.
I'm not sure if the new scoring and pricing shows a lot, but it does have me worried about Rotohog's grasp of the balance of the game between the various components. Starters vs. closers, while unbalanced a little, was still a discussion you could have on the boards. Now, it's not even a question. The balance between hitters and pitchers as well, and where to allocate the beginning money was something I know TSN worked hard on. Now, it's again pretty moot.
It's also not just the price where the pitchers are going to be different this year. Previously, if you had a stud pitcher to start the season, you had to really think about moving him for the hotshot cheap guy because you needed the cash elsewhere. This year, you can have 3 studs on your team, rotating through the other 2 slots to be able to get the hot guys and save trades. This is going to be a big factor as the season goes on, as the extra trades from the beginning will mean more flexibility later on.
So, many of the balanced relationships we are used to are going to be gone this year - we're going to have to see how this works out, but I think that it really is a whole new game this year strategy-wise - here's hoping that it either works, or if it doesn't they scrap some of these changes and move back to what does.
