We continue...

10 teams are at 4-1 or better, including 6 from our NFC. Unfortunately, only four teams from each division advance to the playoffs. Still plenty of time. Though Doug has the best record as mentioned in the last thread, StL Cards' 49ers (what a name) has taken over the overall PF lead that will be used in case of a tie. After two impressive weeks in a row, I looked up his game history from our G20/24 web site and notices that he's now been high points for the week 5 times (tied for 2nd) and hit 100 points 5 times in his career, just outside the top 5 by a single week. I will make the adjustments in our record book.

The Chiefs are receiving "hourly" updates from the NFL regarding their game in Miami this Sunday. Because of Hurricane Wilma, they game could be moved to Monday night or later in the season. Oct. 19 - 2:45 pm et

Note: If this game is moved to later in the season, we will have to make a decision on scoring in the best interest of our league. I can't imagine a team playing twice in one week and have no idea what we would do in that case. This would be a commish nightmare not to mention any of the teams (like me) who have Chiefs or Dolphins on your squad. At first thought we make that game count for this week, but that would be very difficult. Again, no clue. Hopefully we won't get to it. I'm hearing that some people in Tampa are already making plans to evacuate just in case.

That scenario would be a nightmare indeed. Lots of problems either way.

Too bad they couln't just move it to Jacksonville or something. So far we have had New Orleans with a "home" game in New York, and Arizona with a "home" game in Mexico City.

News: KCChiefs.com reports the contest between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins that is scheduled to be played in South Florida might be moved to Monday night or to K.C. due to Hurrcane Wilma.

That would be a much better solution. A postponement would be a horrible for players and worse for the fantasy teams! ;)

Monday is fine, but if they postpone it to a later week and have to play a game on a Sun/Thurs/Sun for instance--that would be bad for the players. Not sure they could even do that.

Btw, the opening post should read that 10 teams are 4-2 or better.

A few have seen this, but we have put up a poll on the league site about the proposed keeper reductions. You have 3 choices, now, wait a year or keep it the same. The vote is very close so far, so we need maximum participation.

Here is the latest note from CBS. Based on this note, I would plan on setting Pick'ems before the Friday freeze and also picking up any free agents before then as well.

Chiefs/Dolphins Game Moved to Friday Night!!!!
Due the the effects of Hurricane Wilma, the Kansas City Chiefs @ Miami Dolphins game has been moved up to Friday Oct. 21st at 7:00 PM. This means that you will need to make sure that any transactions/selections are set in accordance with your league/pool's deadline. As usual no add/drops will be allowed once games begin for the week.

Problem with that TB is that some of us have those players going so you'd be tipped off how that team might do. If I had a couple guys score 60, it's pretty easy to pick me to win--esp if those guys weren't supposed to do well.

yeah, if Vick would've just let him score a TD after he did all the work it wouldn't have come down to that... Definitely my highest output of the season - would've sucked to have lost (sorry Doug, nice score w/o a qb, though)

Now I'll have to see if my random selection pick'em strategy worked any better than the 2 I got right last week actually trying.

I hate leaving guys on the bench that would have won me the game. Furthermore, benching my regulars like toomer as I thought Patten's opponent would give him more points and benching garcia at the last minute to put in Volek. Either one gets me the win. Oh well. Three straight losses now. Going from the Penthouse to the Outhouse again just like last year.

Coyotes nailed 10 in Pick'ems to win the week and take a two game lead on the season.

Actually I was thinking more along the lines that the commish would edit the waiver priority. So let's say that Doug wanted to trade with me because he sees a player that he wants and knows he likely can't get with a 14th waiver wire priority, so he trades me player x for my #2 priority. We would then edit the waiver priority to move Doug to 2nd and drop the 49ers to 14th or last or whatever the details of the trade were.

...and the only team that hasn't won at least two is our Champion from last year.

And Reggie Bush will look good on this team neaxt year (or whoever the new owner wants). Maybe a QB.

This has been a tough year. yep, I won last year and I win the last pick in the draft and the past WW priority too. No complaints, but geeeeezzzz!

Pennington out for the year.
Eric Johnson (SF's leading receiver as a TE last year and a keeper) didn't play a down and out for the year, Dropped. And musical TE every since.
I drafted Chad's back up as "insurance" and he went out.
Rattay made my 3rd QB and he lost his job and then ot traded or he might have been playing now. (PS Smith isn't near ready SF!)
Duce no play all year.
Emmitt retired = 1 more lost RB.
Goings was a point scorer last year = scrub this year.
I tried to get every back up with the possibility of playing (Bouman, Detmer, etc..)

My #24 WW priority means I missed out on all players that could help me (Stecker, even back up TE's such as Baker)

For those that don't know, and so that you think this is not cause my team is floundering, I have decided to stop playing fantasy sports due to it's conflict with my real life.

So.... I'm gettng close to the point that I'd move spme players for draft picks and some younger players. Maybe I have some key pieces you may need to win nw and I canleave my team in good shape for the next owner.

Make offers.

I've got an interesting dilemma. Both Manning and Brady are facing tough pass defenses(Was and Buf). IMO, Manning is a slightly better start since he has huge game potential, however, if he busts out presumably Toomer and Burress would benefit. Since Ref has both WR's and I am holding the defense(Washington) that Manning would breakout on it might be smarter for me to start Brady. Ref already has a huge advantage on me and a win from my team would be unlikely with Manning, I'd say around 10%, but with Brady it becomes closer to 20%. I'll have to mull it over a little bit longer but I think this might be the first time I ever start a player over another player eventhough I think on average he'll do worse.

It looks to me like the waiver process is not working correctly. Players dropped during the 10/26 waiver process have not yet cleared waivers even though they should have cleared on Saturday AM and it is now Sunday AM. Guess it must be related to cbs running on backup power or whatever. Not sure what to do about it either.

I have turned the waiver process off to allow owners the chance to pick up players that should have cleared waivers already. That is the only option I could think of. If a player was dropped on Saturday, he should still be considered to be on waivers. Waivers will resume 5 minutes before game time, so please refrain from picking anyone up then if I haven't yet turned waivers back on by then.
thanks.

Yeah, I'm not too proud of that score and it looks like it will get adjusted down some more once negative yards are calculated. If only the score of that NYG-WAS would've been reversed, I might've kept it close.

Despite getting crushed, it appears if the regular season was over today we would still make the playoffs. I'm not sure how to proceed with the rest of the season, throwing in the towel while still holding onto the last playoff spot would seem a bit odd. In any case, Brady and Harrison might be available for a team looking to boost their team for a playoff run.

Found a few adjustments. Remember on your live scoring that blocked FGs are not on there. They are put up the next day. The standings are tightly packed. Everyone has lost at least two games and everyone has won at least two games. Remember if you win your division, you'll have no lower than 2nd seed in the playoffs.

Two teams had 11 right in Pick'ems. Promize and Coyotes are tied for first.

Several changes in record book: Most times high points for the week (season), Lowest total for the week overall, Most times Highest Points For the Week -- Overall, Largest Margin of Victory and Most times to score 100 points/Overall.

Grats to StL Cards for hitting top 5 in most of those records. MBJ has now won 4 in a row after dropping his first 4 to have the longest winnings streak.

Found 5 adjustments this week. Is it just me or do some of the standings look "funny" this year? THK's Vikings are in first. After that trade, I am floored he's up there. Let's face it, KJ hasn't exactly lived up to thk's hype, but it's H2H and all you gotta do is have more points than the team your playing that week! CT's Cardinals are killing in points and took top honors this week with over 114. He's a game behind thk, but all he needs to do is make that game up to win with all those tiebreaking points on his side.

The AFC East is not the juggernaut of old. My Colts are in first even with three straight tough luck weeks (well 2 of 3 anyhow). And even with another loss after losing his first 4, mbj's Bengals still has a shot at the playoffs and in 2nd place--still one game out of the final playoff spot.

The top teams in the AFC East reside in the West, yeah that's right, the West. Typically the laughing stock of the league has risen up. SW's Chiefs and Doug's Raiders are 7-2. Both have had some luck along the way and both have eeked out a win over my Colts. Albeit, both are strong and should make the playoffs. Both are a game up on the Colts so it should be between those two for the top seed. However, a mistep by either could spell disaster as the Colts have a miniscule edge in points. The Colts have had an arguably tougher schedule up to this point but the Colts are banged up with injuries. bmd's Texans are going the wrong way and lost two straight, but would still own the final spot in the playoffs if the season ended today.

The Best of the Best is the NFC South. Every team has won at least 4 games. However, the only true dominant team looks to be StL Cards' 49ers who just missed hitting 100 again this week. And with the way CT's Cardinals are doing (esp after that blockbuster trade gave him a boost), could be that only two teams from the South make the cut. bj21's revamped Rams are 6-3 and Pete's Cowboys have been perhaps the luckiest team in the league this year and sit at 6-3. Who knows where we will be in a few weeks.

New leader in Pick'ems. My Colts and Promize's Seahawks are tied at 77, but 6 teams have between 75 and 77 right. For the 2nd week in a row the Raiders got 11 right. The Rams and Texans also picked 11 correctly.

The NFC smoked the AFC again this week. In both week 5 and week 9, the two weeks of interleague play, the NFC went 8-4.

OK, before anyone else calls me an idiot for this horrible trade, let me just say I panicked and this was the best offer I got. I know that Vermeil thinks that Priest will play this week, but we're not just talking concussion, but the spine and for a guy that has talked retirement in the past, I just didn't want to get nothing for him if he was hurt. If he plays I'm screwed and if he doesn't I was screwed. The only way this helps me is if Priest retires and it may help me a smidge only for this year if he's done for the year but kill me next year. So I took a chance. Doubt if the guys I got help me much, but better than nothing if Priest is done.

My bet is Priest is done. Of course what you get in return isn't much, but from what I have both heard and read you actually got a steal for a player that will never set foot on a football field again.

Priest Holmes' Career May Be Over
November 9, 2005

Insiders at Arrowhead Stadium tell NBC Action News Sports Director Jack Harry that Priest Holmes, very possibly, has played his final game in a Chiefs uniform. One highly placed source tells Harry, Holmes could announce his retirement as soon as Thursday.

The 32-year-old running back arrived back in town Tuesday night from Miami after undergoing some extensive testing on his spine. Doctors reportedly found a lump and should Holmes take a severe hit, he could become paralyzed. At his weekly press conference Tuesday, head coach Dick Vermeil indicated he didn't really know what was going on with Holmes.

Holmes has already undergone three knee surgeries. He has failed to finish two of the last 3 seasons. He suffered the head injury in the San Diego game, and has now learned of this latest problem with his spine.

I was looking at his profile last night. 32 years old, 9th NFL season and high mileage. If he comes back and plays a couple more years at his previous levels then the Pittsburgh team is getting a lopsided deal. If he never plays again, you just traded Patten for Porter, a starting kicker, and another starting WR. Too much uncertainty with Holmes status to make this a fair trade. It is like when the oddsmakers turn the betting line off on game because key players statuses are uncertain. I suppose my mind could be changed if RFS wanted to share his rationale for making this trade. I understand this is his last season in this league and Holmes isn't going to impact his team for this season. Just wondering how Holmes fits in the long-term plans with that team.

Agreed, I'd be really interested to hear rfs' rationale on how trading for Holmes at this point fits into the long-term plans for his team.

It's far from certain that Holmes is going to retire as of right now. Probably know more later today. TB raises a good point though. This is really a speculative trade with each side gambling on the health of a player. When all is said and done, one side will be getting a good deal. So the real question is should a speculative deal be allowed where the health is in question and the career outcome is unkown. In baseball this year there was a trade involving an injured player with a possible career ending injury, but it was not veto'd. I don't know the answer to allowing a speculative trade where career status is unkown. This could have implications for trying to trade players with severe injuries down the road too. People are speculating that Holmes is done forever, but what if he comes back next year? Personally I thought Promize was nuts for holding onto Ricky Williams as a keeper. What if he had tried to trade him last year while he wasn't even playing? Tough questions.

rfs - care to post your rationale?

KSHB reported Wednesday that doctors had found a lump on Holmes' spine and were concerned about possible paralysis should he take a direct hit. Citing a highly-placed source it didn't identify, the station said Holmes could announce his retirement as soon as Thursday.

Holmes' agent, Todd France, was traveling Wednesday and not immediately available. An employee of France's agency, who asked not to be named, disputed the report and said suggestions that Holmes was about to retire were inaccurate.

Yeah, it's a real crapshoot. However, when we made the deal, it was being reported that Vermeil expected Holmes to play this week. The deal was made yesterday. I've read conflicting and flip-flopping reports all day. Both of us are taking a chance.

Let me repharase. We did the trade on the 8th. This info that TB announced is coming out on the 9th. Officially the latest I've read today is that Priest may not return for the season, but will not retire. Supposed to be a news conference at 5:00.

Btw, TB, the trade has already been allowed. However, you may protest this trade as G24 rules stipulate. Obviously, since I am involved, I won't be a part of the process.

I have requested and received a rationale from rfs about the Holmes trade. He is currently on the road, so I am posting it for him.

ref asked for Mushin and Porter. I countered with Porter et al...

I know priest may be done, but I've also seen reports that dont rule him out for the year. I've already got 2 WR keepers for next year, so giving the 3rd WR for a starting RB is worth the risk. Did you see the lack of any rbs on my team until I just got Duce back? To me that is risk reward. I know this is a risk, but staying pat is going to keeep landing me in last place for multiple years. Let's say that Priest is a bust.... would
Porter have helped me climb the ladder next year? I think QBs and RBs are worth risks in this league.

The current status of Holmes is that he has been placed on IR, but the Chiefs are adamant that he will be back next year. There is no word other than unsubsantiated rumor that Holmes is retiring.

If anyone still has objections, please either post them here, or you can email me. Confidentiality will be maintained if email is sent.

I appreciate the feedback from RFS. I was probably focusing more on the risk and less on the reward for the Steelers. I think Holmes career is over and in hindsight this deal will prove to be very lopsided. I admit that I am too conservative, though. With MBJ trying to get Holmes too, I am probably in the minority on my Holmes assessment. I hope Holmes is able to come back and play next year and prove me wrong.

I was called an idiot by a couple people after making this deal. I know StL Cards was pissed as he was willing to offer quite a bit more. He said it was unlike me panicking like I did. He is right. If Priest comes back next year, I definitely screwed up. If he came back this year, I screwed up big time. In the back of my mind, I was thinking that Priest has gotten hurt every single year and I'm sick of it. Of course, when he does play, he can be HUGE!!!

Well my team has gone the way of the injury, so Im looking to sell a couple of players. If anyone has any interest in any of my players, note I don't want 3 for 1's, than feel free to inquire.

Also up for sale would be my #1 Waiver Wire priority for the next couple of weeks, of course it would depend on who is available, but if you feel lucky I would be up for "trading it" before too.

Porter is back to being a scrub with Moss' re-emergence. Lindell got me a big -2 and finneran only 50 yds. I really wish I wouldn't have made that trade. At least I have a little depth in case of an injury--but not too many points for depth at all. Oh well.

I didn't hear anything else about the Priest deal. I'm still not totally easy--- If Priest is considering retirement, doesn't it bode better for him to do the IR thing and wait so he keeps getting KC paychecks?

Odd that I played Ref this week. I certainly didn't help him (yet) as Porter and Lindel bombed. Unless D22 goes for 40.0 second half points.

What a bad game SF-CHI with Pickett V Orton combined for 1.20 fantasy points. I'm sure that's an (un)official record!

Welcome Reggie Bush.

I think I caught all the corrections and updated all the movement in the record book on our league rules. If I overlooked any, let me know. Thk's horrible week not only possibly cost him a playoff spot, but picking him, hurt me bad in pick'ems. Promize now has the top spot by himself, but six teams still all within 2 games. Despite Cards' concern, the playoffs possibilities are getting a lot clearer now. Still, one bad week can change some things.

But you were playing Twarpy who is basically going through the motions and if you'd have started the right guys you still could have won. Anybody picking my team without Palmer and CJ is taking a considerable risk without a doubt. I wasn't favored by the almightly preview by CBS and I was playing with an entire player who is a major force.

Point is...my team competing right now is just a plesant suprised. I am without my best player and my young stud aquistion doesn't have any help on the line or through the air and hasn't done anything. Personally I know Zona is a better team but my team continues to preform. I still have a legit shot at a WC slot and that's amazing to me.

I've played the Ravens three times in three years and lost all of them, including the first one in '02 by .06 when Manning made a drive in garbage time hit Edge for a 20 yd pass play on the last play of the game on MNF to beat me. As good as my franchise has been, just cant seem to beat yours!!! I needed Gonzo's 10 pts, but you still have two starters going tonight and I'm up by like 16 now. I started the wrong K and I should have made that trade for that D I had an offer for last week. Oh well. I figured I had a playoff spot locked up so I didn't want to give up anything for next year. But I could easily be bounced in the first round. If Tiki is hurt, that's an almost certainty.

Well, unless I get 70 points tonight from Driver and Williamson, my losing streak will reach 6 games. I'm not sure how a team that just missed the playoffs last year ended up with the 2nd toughest schedule, but I guess that's just the way things fall. Other than Fitzgerald, my team has been very inconsistent and even when I have a good week, I get beat by a team with an even better week. Guess, I can start looking to next year.
