Yahoo is up and running. I created our league and have sent invites out to all of last year's managers.

Managers:
1- Toral (Reigning Champ and current holder of the Big Brown Banana, emblematic of league supremacy)
2- Mike D ("Has-been" Champ)
3- Ender
4- Khahan
5- benapolis
6- Frick
7- Great One
8- slosh23
9- Stuck in the 60s
10- TB
11- Tree
12- Wiggs

Here is a link to last season's thread: Serious Biz 2005

Here are the current league settings:

Points Allowed 28-34 points (-1)
Points Allowed 35+ points (-4)
Fractional Points: Yes
Negative Points: Yes

The two changes I made were:
1) Trade Review: Commissioner
If it is a balanced trade, I will push it through as soon as I see it. If it is a blockbuster deal or one that I think the whole league needs to see, I will let it go through a two-day review process.
2) Post Draft Players: Follow Waiver Rules
This isn't a big change, but last year they were free to be picked up right away.

Things we need to do:
1. Get everyone signed up for the league
2. Set up a draft date
3. Review scoring and league rules and discuss any proposed changes
4. Let TB win the league

I looked at the old thread and didn't see much discussion for changes other than the annual "need more bench spots" discussion and some talk about 2 QB's. Most of the discussion about two QB's seemed to be positive for keeping it that way. I would like to get everyone signed up and get a draft date set up. By the time we do that, we should have plenty of discussion on possible rule changes and we can set up a vote.

The 2 QB system should be the main topic, just a reminder. I remain in favor of it cause it really shook things up last season and took some emphasis off the RBcentric world that Fantasy Football becomes(and hopefully this season I will remember to draft a QB! lol...).
If anyone (or 2 I guess) doesn't come back to the league, I also say we drop down to 10 teams which is PERFECT for the 2 QB league.

Also, I would immediately like to put up a proposal for a flex position. I think we all had too many RB's without it and it led to a lot of wasted talent on the bench and thats no fun. Lets put these guys to work :)

I need the league ID and password sent to me please. New email address this year. The old one is broken.

Also, I agree whole heartedly that we need a flex spot this year.

12 teams just suck for the QB situation. At 12, its difficult for everybody to have 2 competitive. At 1, we all get a good one and there isn't much need to trade. All in all, lets make it more difficult and go for 2 QB's.

Khahan, just sent an invite to that email addy.

GO, I had some more stuff behind other names like:
3- Ender (Almost champ)
4- Khahan ("Has-been" almost champ)
Then I realized if I did those four I would be obligated to say something funny about everyone else (I looked it up in the rule book) and I wasn't sure if I could pull it off.

Mike- We can do another mock like we did last June, but I would rather wait until teams get a preseason game or two under their belt before starting the real draft.

I don't have any proposals for rule changes. I do think 2 QB's makes it a rough go if injuries hit, but that makes it a different challenge for everyone and we seemed to pull it off last year. The other big debates were adding a flex and increasing the bench. I think if we did both of those, the waiver wire would be bare, but everyone can chime in on those two issues and if there is enough support for either of them we can take a vote.

I don't think the waiver wire would be bare with a flex position being added... I think we all had starting RB's rotting on our benches last season, and this would just put them to work.

Understood TB. With my league sources reporting to me by the hour, any draft taking place now would clearly not be in the best interests of the league.

LOL. Football season is easily my favorite.

So, are you thinking:
A) Add a flex position and take one from the bench making the bench only 4 (15 round draft)
B) Add a flex position and leave the bench at 5 (16 round draft)
C) Add a flex position and add another bench spot making the bench 6 (17 round draft)

I like the challenge of A and the fact that it makes you have to trade and work the waiver wire. If not A, would prefer B, but am wondering if we would need to come up with a new idea for the initial waiver order or if we just leave it in reverse of the initial draft order?

I also am thinking you have to specify if you want a WR/RB flex or WR/TE flex, which means I think if we voted for one more active slot, I would change WR from 3 tp 2 and make it two flex spots so we would have one flex as a WR/RB and another flex as a WR/TE. Esentially, it is the same thing by allowing you to use a TE or RB for the third flex. Everyone should end up starting at least 3 WR a week.

I like this...

QB
QB
WR
WR
RB
RB
WR/RB
WR/TE
TE
K
Defense

I think you could leave the bench at 5.

Enough balance and flexibility to work around injuries etc, while putting more of your roster to work each week instead of just taking up space.

Yeah, I guess adding one bench, you'd lose one bench spot to even it out. So maybe all that with 4 bench spots. That avoids stashing of QBs as well.

Side Note, I'm in. I tried to sign up this weekend, but couldn't. I don't know if the problem was Firefox or my inability to see the correct link.

Any one want to trade draft spots. What, we don't have them yet?

I say that we plan the draft 2-3 weeks before the end of the season. Since we normally do a fast draft, that is earlier enough to have time to fix our draft mistakes, cough no QBs cough, yet still not have the agony of losing your first round pick to a game 1 preseason injury.

I'm cutting back a bit this year, and don't want to do a live draft (which might be a b*tch to schedule so I can make it) so I won't be defending the Big Brown Banana this year (and it needs a lot of defence, considering what it looks and smells like....) You'll need to select another manager.

Thanx for a lot of fun, and, I'm sorry to leave after raking in the pot, but, well, the chips are mine ;)

I hope the thread will keep me informed as to significant league happenings (especially re the draft).

Maybe if we change the name to TBIFC he will reconsider? We are still missing word from Ender and apparently Slosh still hasn't found the email with league info, yet. Slosh said he is in so at most we will need two new owners, but I think Ender will probably be back so it looks like we will need one. I would like to give Nerfherders a chance to get back in the league so if anyone has his email addy and wants to drop him a line that would be great.

I am going to shoot the league info to Slosh again. He is the only one we are waiting on to sign up.

I just changed the draft time to Tuesday, 5 Sep 06 at 9:00 PM Central/10PM Eastern. The season starts on Thursday, 7 Sep 06.

I went back and looked at last years pre-draft talk and unless something changed, Wednesday's are bad and anything earlier than 9:00 Central wasn't working for many who have kids. There are still plenty of days and times available. It looks like 9pm is available every day from 25 August (Friday) through 5 Sep (Tuesday) except for Sunday 27 Aug. All of those days are good for me. I need everyone else to chime in on what days are not good from 26 Aug to 5 Sep to draft at 9pm Central.

You can use this format or just tell me what days are not good:

25 Aug (Fri), 9:00 pm central: good
26 Aug (Sat), 9:00 pm central: good
27 Aug (Sun)- No good drafting times available
28 Aug (Mon), 9:00 pm central: good
29 Aug (Tue), 9:00 pm central: good
30 Aug (Wed)- Not a good date for league
31 Aug (Thu), 9:00 pm central: good
1 Sep (Fri), 9:00 pm Central: good
2 Sep (Sat), 9:00 pm Central: good
3 Sep (Sun), 9:00 pm Central: good
4 Sep (Mon), 9:00 pm Central: good
5 Sep (Tue), 9:00 pm Central: good

I also just changed the settings from Post Draft Players changed from 'Follow Waiver Rules' to 'Free Agents'

I initially set it up so that after we drafted, if some hot news came out about a player then someone would have to burn their waiver priority to grab them first. With the decision to draft closer to the beginning of the season (currently set for two days before the beginning of the season), I want everyone to have the flexibility to fix any draft mistakes right away.

9:00 PM was no longer available, but this is the day that it looks like everyone can make it. Please put it on your schedule and show up early. If for some reason you cannot make the draft, please prerank your players. I suggest everyone prerank them anyway because it will help out when you go to draft.

On a side note, I went to email the entire league and three of you have disabled the option to get email from the league. That is a little wierd. Also, now I can't forward you some emails about getting viagra or OEM software.

just a heads up to everyone, I have to work tonight and I will be leaving my house around 11. I will be good to draft for 30 minutes and then I will be good to draft again around 1120 when I get to work, but in between I will be on the road. I will set up a queue, but we all know how those work out. Hopefully if everyone shows up we will move at a decent pace, or if not maybe we will move slow enough I only miss like 4 rounds.

Okay, well maybe we can drag our feet for a little bit. You should be able to get your first two picks in and be queued up for the next couple of rounds. You can call my cell and we can talk as you are driving in to work too.

I have no idea who the Buffalo QB is, but I think they are all available. Or if you have someone to drop, maybe take a flier on Leinart. He has looked good in preseason and if (when) Warner gets hurt or if the team falters, maybe he gets a shot. Looks like Grossman is available too. No idea how long he is a starter, but he is one currently. Collins just signed with Tennessee too. Maybe he wins the starting job over Volek? Doubtful he wins it any time soon, but someone to keep an eye on.

I posted a similar comment at Yahoo.

Do the Yahoo rosters lock at 8:30 today for the entire weekend? I am trying to trade for a WR, but not finding deals that I want to make right now.

If I pick up a FA, he won't be added to my team until tomorrow, can I put him into my starting line-up for Branch or am I just out of luck.

Can I get a Commish ruling or league consensus. I'll admit that this was my fault and I should have taken care of the problem earlier. If I have to play with a dead spot, I will.

I'm not sure which feels worse. Losing by 3 points and knowing that if I had been a "better manager" I could have won. Or losing by 80 points and knowing that unless I got to play 5-6 more spots I didn't have a chance.

Looks like it might be another long year.

I believe there is precedent in this league (one of the MANY reasons why P-Gunn left), that a trade that is intended to be done before the current weeks games can be pushed through by the commish. I think Yahoo has some crazy wait time, like 2-3 days. In my mind if a deal was done Friday or Saturday and the majority of the managers had a chance to see it, it could be processed by the commish for the current week.

Just my $.02

I will push trades through to the last minute. I set it up so that the commish approves them and they happen right away. The only trade I wouldn't push right away would be one that I felt the league needs to review, but we have been together for a few years now and everyone here is a pro so I doubt that ever comes up.

speaking of active players - so far, Bentones has no QBs going, but a slew of fairly awful QBs on his bench.

i realize there's no one out there on the waiver wire currently, but there must have been some kind of trade you could have worked out to have at least one QB, no?

I agree to an extent. I called and talked to him after the draft (he's my little brother) and pretty much dogged him out for not being prepared (Portis and DD being his first two picks...ouch) It's not like I take this overly serious (life and death) but I do take it serious enough that if you are going to play in a competitive league, you have to do some homework. I will cut him a little slack. With both of his starting QB's getting hurt, he has both their handcuffs and everyone is on a bye. I don't know how many roster slots he could really commit to QB. I know I would be depressed with that line-up and maybe just take the loss this week and be able to field a full starting line-up the rest of the way. In all honesty, we will probably be looking for a replacement manager for him next year if he doesn't convince me before next season that he is motivated and prepared to participate. He has made some moves to help his team, but I really don't see him getting out of the hole he has dug unless Green gets back on the field and Portis/Barlow/Walter or Brooks/Rhodes all increase their game significantly.

Who would have guessed that Tree declaring a man-crush on me would be such a thread killer? ;)

It's been a quiet season this year. One game left and before we all bail on football for the season, wanted to get some input for next year. We've bounced around the idea of adding an additional flex and one more bench spot. Here is what I would like to propose for next season.

Current starters:
2 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Def, 5 Bench
Next season proposal:
2 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 Flex RB/WR, 1 Flex WR/TE, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Def, 6 Bench

Unless yahoo changes, we have to do the flex like that. They haven't had a RB/WR/TE flex option available. That brings the draft to 17 rounds.

I know this is something we've talked about the last couple seasons. Maybe it is time to spice it up a little.

not sure i'm keen on the WR/TE flex. i'd rather go 2 RBs, 3 WRs, and a RB/WR flex, since i don't see too many people choosing a second TE over a WR.

a deeper bench, however is crucial, because some of the bye weeks this year were brutal.

Would any support the idea of starting 2 TEs? As TE become more integrated into some of the offenses, it seems like a possible reaction. Granted I could be biased by the fact that the Colts normally deploy 2 TE sets on a regular basis.

I don't like starting 2 TE's... BUT I don't mind an extra WR/TE slot. I had that in one of our leagues and it worked pretty well. There were a couple weeks it really helped out to have an extra group of players to pick from.

Actually it was that exact position setup and I am a big fan. It really mixes things up and allows flexibility in decision making.
2 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR and then a WR/RB and a WR/TE -- then your usual TE, K, D

Also... I think there is a way to make TE points count more and I have seen this before with some success. You could add points per reception for TE's or tweak the yardage numbers which gives them a little more value.

I am on the same page as you, Greatest One. But, unless yahoo changes how you can set the league up, you cannot adjust scoring rules by position. I know we can at fleaflicker.com and am all for making the TE postion more valueable. I wouldn't mind making it .5 per reception for RB/WR and 1 point per reception for TE. I think at fleaflicker you have to actually set it up as 2 receptions equals one point for WR/RB and than 1 for 1 TE.

We start 2 QB so I can't imagine it would be any harder starting 2 TE, but that's why I like the 2 flex positions where you can choose between starting:
3RB/3WR/1TE or 2RB/4WR/1TE or 2RB/3WR/2TE or 3RB/2WR/2TE. This allows for several different strategies when the draft comes along.

I agree with wiggs and GO-----I don't mind an extra WR/TE slot. I worry that adding a spot AND a bench spot will take quality players off the wire. And yes, each week I felt there were a few quality guys available. Bye weeks are supposed to be tough, and force people into difficult decisions----which sometimes caused good players to fall loose.
