I'd like to be in.
I don't have any experience with these leagues yet, so I'm not sure I'd be a good candidate for commissioner...however if we really need someone, and if someone can outline the responsibilities of the position, I'd consider doing it.
I am the commissioner of local football and baseball leagues which have both been running for several years, so I have an idea of the responsibilities, but not the specifics!

I will commish the league if someone will just point me toward someplace where all the rules and league settings are outlined. I don't even know which service we should be using. I saw Fanball mentioned at one point and also the possibility of a free alternative existing for the qualifying leagues on another site.
As I said earlier, I have no experience in this league system, so I think I am not the best candidate for commish. That being said, being a commish generally doesn't require much - if any - extraordinary effort. I'm not sure why someone with a little more experience in the format hasn't stepped up yet, and we are getting dangerously close to zero-hour for the draft, so I am volunteering.
Is there ANY way we will have time for a non-live draft? I know we don't have the time for a "slow" message board draft, but maybe there exists another system we could use that won't require everyone getting together at a specific time to draft for several hours. I know, we can probably make do with a live draft, but my guess is it's going to be extremely difficult to organize so quickly.

Ok, I just read over the RIFC Qualifying Leagues post again and I see that most of my questions were answered there about league set-up. The only remaining questions I have are which site/service to use, and the draft format. If anyone can provide some insight on those two topics, and if no one has any objections about me being commish, I will go set up the league.

VP, thanks for stepping up. I think the forum is used for a slow-draft. Kafenatid.net is used for timed drafts. After the draft is finished the players must be entered into a Yahoo! league (custom).
If I am wrong someone correct me.
I would be interested in participating in an AA qualifying league.

Oh, if we're going to be using Yahoo that's great...I (along with almost everyone...) am very familiar with using/commissionering on Yahoo. For some reason I thought (assumed?) that Yahoo wasn't suitable for the RIFC settings.
If someone else can confirm that Yahoo is OK for the RIFC qualifying leagues then I'll go ahead and create the league and begin emailing people.

Guys, RIFC doesn't start drafting until Thursday. You should have plenty of time to draft slowly and still finish in time.

AOL is pretty much an exact copy of Fanball. its servers are a little slower, but it's free. Yahoo won't work for this format (unless they made some serious changes). I think you have to go with AOL unless someone steps up to pay for Fanball.
Getting the rule settings set just right is a little tricky. I suggest you check out the RIFC thread. Guru posted a PDF copy of the RIFC settings there. you can just look at those when you're setting everything up (highly recommended).
once you have your league set-up, you can enter peoples' e-mails there and send invitations straight from the site.

Ok...I actually made the league in Yahoo yesterday just to confirm the suspicions that the settings wouldn't match exactly.
I got a league pretty close...the main differences (off the top of my head) were no double-header support, no LB position for IDP, no separation of punt and kick returns, no customization of playoff qualifiers, and the waiver system would've been a mess requiring lots of extra effort from me and other owners to follow the rules.
Anyway, I will create a league in AOL right now, and then begin emailing owners. First I will email everyone who posted directly in this thread. Then I will move on to the other "interest" thread and try to fill the league with them. Sound OK?

- Yeah, if anyone knows 2 people or has an idea how to recruit 2 more people that would be great. I've emailed everyone that supplied an address in both threads. Some people said they were interested, but didn't leave their email address, so they haven't been invited.
- mjd thanks for offering to donate for the draft! very generous. I submitted a request a few minutes ago on Kafenatid. I tried to follow the setup on the RIFC Draft in Guru's recent post for that draft's discussion. I doubt the draft will be happening tomorrow since the league isn't full, but I'm hoping to begin very soon after we get our 14th owner into the league.

Good, two more. Unfortunately, we also lost a member. JSTERB is already registered for a AAA team apparently. He had expressed interest in a AA league saying he'd never done RIFC before, so I'm a little confused how he got into AAA, but nonetheless, he's not participating. So we will still need one more owner.
In addition, Jeff has not accepted his invitation or responded to my emails to him, so he may need to be replaced as well...

Ok, status update:
I have just sent invitations to Ref and MUHAHOS. Sorry I missed you earlier Ref...I think I misread your post or grouped you with Jeff as "uninterested". Judy has not accepted his invitation yet, so...we aren't quite full yet. I got an email from Holt and he or his brother would still be willing to join to fill the league. I will be able to get on again in about 13 hours. Ideally we can start picking the draft order by then; I have received the two sets of numbers already.
Also, McWell, Botkin, and the three people with pending invites still need to register on Kafenatid. I can ensure Botkin will be registered, but the I'd ask the others to please do so as soon as possible. The registration info is available on the league message board.
That's it for now, I'll check back in about 13 hours.

We might want to consider forgoing the choice of draft positions and just have the draft order assigned by the commish via the random number generator mentioned in post 45 or by the random numbers already sent to the commish. Or maybe a combination of the two. My point being that I don't think we have time to spend 2 or 3 days just determining the draft order.
Per the RIFC 2006: preseason discussion thread post #198, quoting Guru, "Last year, we started the draft on August 17 and finished on Sept. 1st. I did not activate the clock until August 19th, but I am planning to activate it at the start of the draft (i.e., August 15th) this year, since we have 3 extra rounds to complete." That's 16 days for the RIFC. If we start tomorrow, we'll only have 17 days until the season begins. Plus the commish needs time to load the teams onto AOL. I have serious doubt that any AA league can complete a 14 team draft of 24 rounds as fast than they can.
Guru, or anyone else monitoring this thread, would it be a problem if in the interest of getting our draft started and completed on time, our commish could randomly assign the draft order? Any recommendations?

For the draft order - I have now generated a list of names using the two sets of random numbers sent to me. If we decide not to choose draft positions then we can use this list for the draft order, otherwise it will be the order we choose positions.
I was going to hold off posting the list until everyone registers for the draft room, which I will take to be a confirmation of participation.
Any more opinions on starting the draft with a random draft order, or on anything else for that matter?

as an innocent bystander, I suggest randomly selecting draft order. you're really gonna be pinched for time. first game is sept. 6 I believe. you may even want to go with 4 hr picks rather than 6 hr picks.
GL, hope everything goes smoothly (if someone goes awol early, i suggest that rather than skip their picks, you just boot them and find someone to replace them).

I hate to bump people, but I really don't think it was asking too much to register for the draft room when you registered for the league...
So, I guess what I'm saying is if it gets to the point where one person signs up on Kafenatid and we are stuck waiting for the other two, I'll ask Holt and his brother to fill the two slots instead. If there are any objections to this let me know.
It sounds like most are in favor of random draft order, so we will go with that. I will generate it with the two sets of random numbers I already have.

I am under the impression that aol and fanball have slightly different rule allowances. As long as the RIFC aa/aaa leagues are using the same rules I think we're fine. I think they are pretty close to the same as rifc if I read it right.
I was already a member at Kef too but you ahve to sign up for the individual league, which requires you to have the league ID and pword sent to you.

Now I remember.....return guys, whether a WR or a DB are considered an offensive player when said player has the ball. On an INT or fumble recovery, both the individual player and team D score points. (see pages 8 and 9 in the link)

aol and fanball use the same engine. some of the rules are pretty tricky to set up. best to refer to guru's setup when doing it (link in post 23 up above).
IDP's do get points for punt and kick returns (yds and td's). team D's got credit for return TD's last year but I don't know if they do anymore. that may have been a rule change this season.

Ok, we are up to 13 in Kafenatid now. We are still missing MCWELL. Holt and his brother would only fill in if they could both join, so we either need one more person or we need McWell to join I think.
My internet access will not be regular for the rest of this week. I will get on whenever I can, hopefully daily, but there's no way I can sit here and watch the message board like I have been...just an FYI. mjd has offered to help me administer the draft though, so hopefully things will move relatively smoothly once we get this last guy registered.

I now have temporary admin control on Kafenatid. Once the last person signs up, I will use the tool on Kafenatid to randomly set the draft order.

Alright folks, I just sent the info to #14. The clock will start at 7AM tomorrow, but picks can be made as soon as I post the draft order. As soon as the last person signs up for Kafenatid, I will randomly set the draft order via Kafenatid.
From this point on, all draft discussion should be posted here
That's also where I'll post the draft order. Remember to use the que system and good draft etequette. Also, don't forget to assign a designated picker or two. I'll be around most of the time if you want me to be a DP.
