Can someone cut and paste Bariko's trade summary in 449 of the F101 Original Discussion

Dang...that late surge, combined with the crap finishes by the other teams really cost me a high draft pick!

Good thing I have all those extra picks stashed away!!!

I would love to add another star player, and have picks to work with. Either RB or WR.

Send me your extras!

4 Offensive Keepers, 1 IDP Keeper
Congrats to Doug on being 2 time champion as well.
I'm going to send an email out for everyone to confirm they plan to return.
Also please note if you will be on vacation or any time constraints on drafting (i.e. West Coast).

Planning to have a draft the Tuesday or Wednesday right before the Thursday opener. So I'd say we're shooting for keepers before Labor Day.

As I said in the other thread, I am looking to shed some of my keeper-quality players before the draft. Ideally I would like to do a 2 for 1 (i.e. Westbrook and Steve Smith or so for a upgrade at RB, or some of the guys for draftpicks...i'm flexible either way!)

RB - Michael Turner (TD Machine...'nuff said)

RB - Westbrook (Despite the injury, this is a 1/2 PPR league, and Westie gets those dumpoffs like nobody else!)

RB - Bush (probably the one guy that is gonna have to be pried out of my grasp)

RB - Pierre Thomas (The PT Cruiser will put up keeper worthy stats, and the asking price is a 3rd rounder...which means a 7th round pick!) Keep in mind this a guy who would go no later than the 3rd round in any other draft!!! You'd be getting him in the 7th!

RB - Leon Washington (Rex Ryan wants to get him the ball. He returns kicks, and his workload will only increase. You're looking at around 15 PPG.

WR - Steve Smith ('nuff said)

WR - Dwayne Bowe (up and coming WR, could be the next Larry Fitzgerald?)

WR - Antonio Bryant (contract year...expect the same type of performance as last year. You'll be getting that Toyota at a Hyundai price!)

Fire Sale!!! I'm in all out deal-making mode, so get at me with an offer and strike while the iron is hot.

I have 4 RB's and 1 WR that are on the block:

RB - Pierre Thomas (The PT Cruiser will put up keeper worthy stats, and the asking price is a 3rd rounder...which is really an 8th round pick!) Keep in mind this a guy who would go no later than the 3rd round in any other draft!!! You'd be getting him in the 8th!)

RB - Leon Washington (Rex Ryan wants to get him the ball. He returns kicks, and his workload will only increase. You're looking at around 15 PPG.) If you are a team that doesn't want to sacrifice a high draft pick, but at the same time wants a guy who is gonna deliver #2 RB points at a #4 RB price, this is your guy.

RB - Michael Turner (TD Machine...'nuff said. If you have a back, want to get in on this, send me an offer and he could be yours!)

RB - Frank Gore (Will package for an upgrade @ RB only. If you're interested, let me know and we'll make it happen.)

WR - Antonio Bryant (contract year...expect the same type of performance as last year. You'll be getting that Toyota at a Hyundai price!)

I can't seem to find the discussion, but I know I confirmed I wanted to add a flex IDP spot cause there were too many productive IDP's just laying around the waiver wire.

So thats a change for this year, one flex IDP as well as the 50 minimum for money to change hands and then the "F101 Draft Lottery" for the first 3 picks of the first round only, weighted for non-playoff teams only.

Post 386 & 394 from the 2007/08 Threads.

"Im gonna add 1 flex IDP spot for next season, where in all likelihood well all just have another LB. There are easily 10-15 high end LBs sitting on there in free agency, it was way too easy to replace Willis for the bye week which really hurts the value of those spots.

So anyway, that should take care of that."

Also, I found our Playoff Add/Drop tweak which I think worked very well.

playoffs/keeper situation. The waiver processing that occurs after the last week of the regular season --- Wednesday AM 12/3/08 --- will only be for the 6 teams that make the playoffs. So 1 PM on Sunday 11/30 is the "Keeper Freeze". Whoever is on your team at that point it eligible to be kept next season. Then what I'll do (starting with that waiver processing), I'll print a list out of all transactions, anyone added after that point is not eligible to be kept. And just as important - if you drop somebody, you lose rights to keep them as well (LT breaks a leg, you still need to keep him on your bench... this is to avoid a kicker breaking a leg and you cant replace him, so you can drop him and not have your hands tied). All 6 playoff teams can make moves for the duration of the playoffs, cause even if they lose there are still consolation games with $ on the line.

i am looking to make some trades - either 2-for-1 for a team that feels short on keepers, or something involving draft picks.

Everyone on my roster is available: Slaton, Cutler, Roddy White, Boldin, Royal, Lynch, Ryan, Stewart, Hightower, Colston, Witten, and anyone else.

Obviously, With White, Boldin, Royal, and Colston, i have an abundance of WRs, and would be willing to trade 2 of them for a top tier RB.

Slizz has offered to be the alternate commish so he's gonna help out some as well. Slizz - if you get time, I was wanting to draft up a constitution of sorts like we do in G20 leagues so everything is in one place. We could probably draft it back and forth via email the next week and then post when its complete.

I'm moving right around Labor Day possibly, so its gonna be a hectic next 45 days for me. I HATE moving.

I don't see any kind of flex in the Defensive spot.

I do now see IR spots too, thinking I might add a couple of them. That seems reasonable especially for a keeper league where you might get "Brady'ed" like last season with him taking up a bench spot.

They have broken down all the individual defensive positions, now I'm definitely not going to that extreme, but any ideas? There is one that is just general "Defensive Player" that can be any IDP position. Maybe just three of these specific? Or one DB, DE and LB?

I've been working the tradelines and managed to upgrade my keepers to Steve Smith, Brian Westbrook, Tony Romo, and Felix Jones/Santonio Holmes.

With a stack of 2nd round picks (4) I felt this is the year to contend, so I went older with Westbrook and Smith. Giving up Gore for the 2 of those guys was a big price, but one that I was willing to take.

That being said, I could still use an upgrade at one last keeper spot, willing to give up Jones/Holmes, and/or draft picks, but I am not going to overpay at all.

If anyone has a really nice keeper they would like to deal, shoot me an email.

I think dropping to 12 would really hurt the league. I played a baseball league this year where we eliminated 1 team, and this allowed the worst team in the league to get albert pujols and he is now in 2nd place and working his way to the title.

Unfortunately I can not think of anyone to take these spots so we might not have any other options

I have to head out. If there is no internet where I am going, I think I might have to forfeit my team.

Without knowing who is protected, there is no way I can properly prepare for the draft, especially when I arrive home about 30 minutes before it starts.

I am a little upset, as I put a lot of time into this yesterday with Doug and a couple other guys to make sure I got my keepers in before the deadline.

I hope I can still get access sometime before tomorrow.

I guess I don't understand what there is to prepare for the draft, it'll all be live online with a list of people available when you are picking. It can't get much easier than that. If you have a hole at QB, you take a QB. Having the list up 36 hours before the draft AND having the draft utility should be more than sufficient. If we needed more warning than that, then it should have been requested in advance.

Able to check briefly from the rest stop here.

Wow, I am a little surprised that I am the bad guy here.

The problem for me is, that we set a deadline, and most were able to abide by it. Now I am going to show up about 30 minutes before the draft without knowing who was a keeper and who wasn't, and scramble to see which guys were protected and which guys weren't.

And sorry, but spending $100 to pick the top guy rated by Yahoo is not my idea of a good strategy. Without being able to know which lower guys were protected and which weren't. And the reason I didn't "request more warning in advance" was because I saw that the deadline fit my travel time perfectly. I could print off the keepers and bring them with me.

Have to head out again, will try and find connection again later.

Got to make a call on the IDP spots. "DL" is considered only DE and DT/NT's -- no longer can an LB play there apparently. So I think the answer is this...

1 DB, 1 LB, 1 D --> D = any IDP position

Good draft last night all! I really like how my team finished up, with the one change being that I would have liked to repick on Matt Schaub, as there were many other quality QBs available much, much later in the draft.

I will post a more detailed recap a little later.

Team Recap:

Now, understand I finished 8th last year, so take these points of view with that sweet 8th place grain of salt!!!

Now onto the honest, hold nothing back, team reviews:

Lightning Bolts: Not the strongest set of keepers, but had Reggie Bush fall nicely onto his lap with the 4th pick. Reggie was my second choice at #1 overall. Followed that pick up with 2 nice WR options and a rookie RB in Shonn Greene. Then went older than anything with Edgerrin and Fred Taylor. Not quite enough depth here to hang with the big boys, but some nice younger prospects in Kevin Smith, Run DMC, Shonn Greene, and Reggie Bush to form a solid nucleus for the future. Because of that, I would have liked to see more youthful upside picks throughout the draft here.

Stray Doug: Perhaps the best set of keepers in the league with Chris Johnson, Andre Johnson, Randy Moss, and Aaron Rodgers. Added some nice youth with Darren Sproles and Ted Ginn, and what I think will be the top DB this year in Leodis McKelvin. Jamaal Charles was also added, and he will be the starting RB in KC before year's end. All in all, a solid team once again, and a top 4 finish, once again. Doug must be getting bored of that. And even though I did try and trade for Chris Johnson, I think he steps back this year, and is the rookie that has the worst sophomore slump. Just a gut feeling. (If he was on my team though, he would have an awesome year.)

Daredevils: Cedric Benson as a keeper never bodes well for a league of this size and caliber! Ray Rice is a favorite sleeper of many, and Jay Cutler is a favorite bust pick for many as well, so for Daredevils, lets hope the experts are right on Rice and wrong on Cutler! Depth was really hurt with having no 2nd or 3rd round picks to help build. Colston hopefully can bounce back and become healthy, but he is a bit of a question mark at where he went. Hightower will be better than last year, yardage wise, and will be a nice pickup for where he went, even with Beanie in the picture now. DeSean should improve, and I really like Shaun Hill this year because of a great schedule.

Shanghai Surprise: The new guy! Didn't inherit the strongest set of keepers, DeAngelo is great, Welker is good, but Hester and Larry leave a little to be desired. I really like the youth movement here to rebuild and reload. Carlson, Mendenhall, Nicks, Stafford...all guys that could be really good, if not this year, in future years. Carlson is a TE who is falling way to deep in most drafts, and will put up great numbers playing against bad defenses this year. If Antonio Bryant can somehow match his last years stats, he is a great pick as well. Question to be asked though...Can DeAngelo repeat???

MJD: I love Big Ben, and actually have him on my other team...but as a keeper in this league he isn't a top tier guy. Trading his best player in Jones Drew was a good move though, as it netted two stars in Roddy White and Marshawn Lynch in return. Lance Moore is a surprising keeper as well, but had a good year last year. Can he repeat with everyone in NO coming back healthy? The draft for MJD? Awesome. One of the best drafts in the league. Getting guys like Ryan Grant, Willie Parker, (although old, still has at least one good year here), Chris Henry, Donald Driver, Chester Taylor, and Bret's new best friend at TE, MJD really helped his team out with a strong draft. Too many IDP and Def on the roster hurts depth though, and this team will be pushing to contend.

GO: Always a contender, this team comes in with an amazing group of keepers too. I know GO loves Leon Washington, but can he repeat last year with another new young guy on the roster? Got great value with Matt Ryan, who will continue to get better, (I was hoping he dropped to round 2), scooped Laverne and Shirley Coles late in the 10th round, 3 picks before I could get him. I was mad. Coles will be good this year in Cincy. Too many traded picks leaves depth shaky here, but Favre in the 17th round is great value, as Minny has some pretty weak Sundays this year.
His 4 offensive keepers, with Coles and Ryan, will help GO back to the playoffs once again.

Kannons: Comes in with 2 great keepers in Jennings and Brady, and two guys with a little more of a question mark to them in Cotchery and LenDale. Jonathan Stewart 2nd overall was surprising, but I hope it plays out well because I have him on my other keeper league team! Some nice receivers in Hines and Moss will add points, as I don't think either of them are finished yet. Not sure if he got the newsflash that Rhodes was released, but he did finally snag McClain who was sitting on top of the Yahoo Suggested list for about 3-4 rounds!

T-Dotters: 4 nice keepers, 2 with question marks attached. Rivers is great. Wayne will have a bounce back year and put up better stats. And then the other two...LT will bounce back in a big way, and will be a great keeper for this year, but he is nearing the end. Roy Williams is a favorite sleeper this year AND a favorite bust candidate for many as well. I think he does well, and is a justified keeper for Twarpy. Beanie Wells was a great addition for the future. Some young guys with potential in Michael Bush, Norwood, Choice, Britt, and even Rice gives this team some good prospective keepers for the future...especially if Turner's workload is lessened as Atlanta says it will be. Lee Evans is the question mark here. Buffalo has released its OC and starting LT, have a prima donna demanding the ball on the other side of the field...it could be a down year for Lee.

NY Studs: An ok group of keepers. Can Thomas Jones stay relevant this year? As the AFC's leading rusher last year, you would think he would be a great keeper, but with his age, 2 young guns behind him, and the contract squabble, things are wide open here. Brown should have a great year this year, if Jacobs stays healthy, he will be a monster too. And Peyton is Peyton. Always healthy, always good. First two picks were great WRs---with some question marks. Royal hopefully can work well with Orton and repeat last year's success, and Vincent hopefully can get touches with healthy LT and Gates back taking more of the offense touches away from him. Jackson will be great while Lynch is away, and good while he is back. Tampa Bay is nuts for not going with Ward as its number 1 back, and he will be there before long. A solid team that will push for the playoffs here.

Promize: Could have had the 4 best keepers, without question, if he had made a move to upgrade Braylon. Maybe Edwards bounces back this year? I don't like his situation though. Otherwise AP, Forte, and Brees are hard to beat. Surprising amount of young guys on this team, considering how good the keepers are. Avery will be the only option in St. Louis that isn't named Steven Jackson, so he is good. I really like James Davis this year. Jamal is getting old, and Davis is a lock to be RB1 before season's end. Crabtree, Harvin, Maclin, Sanchez, lots of young potential...but do they become good?

Robots: Great keepers here too. A nice deal to move quantity for quality in picking up MJD. McNabb will have lots to prove with Vick behind him, so look for a big season from him. Bradshaw in round 8 is great value, I think he should have a really good year this year. I also really like the Ochocinco pick. I think he has a crazy good bounce back year this year. Hopefully all the preseason hype on Coffee and Morgan comes true for the Robots, as they were drafted earlier than expected. I really like Posluszny this year, as teams will be running lots on the Bills, and he will benefit. Nice late flyers on Graham and Hillis, both of which could excel if things roll their way this year. A playoff team here.

Body by Mangini: A perennial contender here in the Stray Doug category! Slizz has already come out and thrown his team under the train by saying how much he hates it. If Jackson, Gore, and Thomas can stay healthy and get majore reps, this team will be awesome. Not a huge fan of Bowe, but the core of RBs are great. Olsen is everyone's favorite second tier TE, and should have a great season. Hasselback, if he bounces back from injury, with that schedule, could put up crazy good numbers. Felix, Hixon, Flacco...all provide a good combination of youth, upside, talent, and value. Carrying 2 extra defensive slots will hurt depth, but if Holt can recover and the RB's and Hasselback stay healthy...this team is a top team once again.

Wiggs: One thing with Wiggs' teams, every year, is the quality of the WRs. I think he places more of a premium on good WRs than anyone else I have ever drafted with. Once again he has a good collection in Marshall, Owens, Holmes, and two good sleepers in Galloway and Heyward-Bey. If Marshall can get his head screwed on straight and play a full season, he could be a top 5 guy, not just WR, in our scoring format. Hopefully Buffalo will get things worked out with their offense fast, or Owens could self destruct. I like Galloway this year and wanted him with my last pick, but had to settle for Muhsin. If Addai can bounce back, add in Barber and Jamal, and if Kurt can stay healthy, Wiggs will be a playoff team this year.

Barilko: Last but not least. Last year sucked for me. So many injuries and disappointments. I don't think anyone did more work to straighten their team out than I did. I traded everyone. So long losers. I hated them all. I got back tons of picks, and then used 2 3rd round picks to upgrade Frank Gore to Brian Westbrook, Steve Smith, Clinton Portis and a 5th round pick. I was happy with my new starting keepers, and then I hit the lottery by getting the number 1 pick...which could turn out to be more harm than good. Moreno might not be the player he can be in his first year. He will be great, but I don't know if he can be great year 1. Originally I was hoping to get Grant, Bush, or Ryan at the 7 spot. I love getting Moreno though...he will be amazing. With extra picks I was able to load up with Dallas Clark, Anthony Gonzalez, and get my handcuff in McCoy. I also nabbed Schaub, who will be awesome if healthy, but probably could have let him slide as a lot of other good QB's fell. I need another RB, but I think this team has some greatness written all over it. My keepers are old and have question marks...but if they all play 16 games (14 for Westie) then I am ecstatic. I went with Pittsburgh Defense early, the first time I have ever been the first guy to take a Defense, but their schedule is amazing. I picked up a lot of depth at WR in Curtis, Muhammad, Meacham, and Chambers, and a great TE backup with Shockey. I love Shockey this year. The projections for week 1 for my IDPs suck, and I still don't know much about IDPs, but I like the potential of each of those guys. This is a top 4 team!!!!! (Of course I had to say that...)

Thanks for the review though...

what you know, looks like Percy might be that 4th keeper for next year. :)

9 TD's between Brees / AP, might need to worry about Edwards at all.

Barilko and I have been batting around some ideas... and he brought up a point that I think needs addressing. What prevents someone from selling all of their future draft picks in order to go on a major run one season --- and then quitting the league and leaving the new guy screwed?

So I've roughly outlined a proposal and wanted some opinions of how to frame it. My basic idea was if you trade away more than 2 of your future draft picks in the first 5 rounds -- then at that point you have officially committed to return the following season -- or you are subject to a penalty of 50 or 20 bucks (can't decide on the amount). Or you at least need to provide us with a suitable replacement to avoid the penalty. Thoughts?

i already dropped Pos. With my boy Stephen Cooper sitting out there on the waiver wire, well, waving at me, how could i say no?

when i was a sports reporter in Wareham, Massachusetts, i covered that kid. I remember the football coach at the High School telling me one year "man, we got this kid playing quarterback on the 8th grade team. he is one of those rare guys who's just a natural athlete. he is going to be a star for this team one day..."

i don't think he he realized just how good Stephen Cooper was.

Any deal will have to involve one (relatively) young RB, cause I'm thin at RB as it is. Barber is your main guy that would fit there (maybe with some kind of WR upgrade worked in)... but I think you are a Cowboys fan? So I wouldn't expect you to move him if that were true. I'm not sure what else would work.

I've gotten some good offers, but most are with WR's which leaves me with a hole at RB obviously.

i think the problem with getting McFadden and Housh is that the offense that surrounds them is largely terrible, and i question how valuable they'll be this season.

Time will tell, but sadly, I think the days of Clinton Portis being a relevant fantasy producer are over. He has a terrible offensive scheme, an even worse offensive line, and he is starting to physically fall apart.

He does have 2 nice matchups in the next two weeks, so that might bite me. But I am hedging my bets that Portis is done. I have watched him a lot this season, and he has lacked any sort of explosive burst whatsoever.

I offered Romo around the league and got barely a sniff from any manager in a potential trade. Already with Schaub, I can't keep both, and I think if Schaub stays healthy, he is a top 5 fantasy QB.

We shall see by season's end if I made a good move, or if I am back to the drawing board! haha

Man - this board is unforgiving in their critiques. I will own up on this one as one of the mysterious supporters of this trade. Granted it wasn't a Grand Theft Fantasy but I certainly believe that it was fair value.

Just look at Clinton Portis for a moment. Since joining Washington in 2004 has had the following number of carries per season: 343, 352, 127 (only 8 games played), 325, 342. That is an ungodly amount of work for an moderate sized back to endure (5'11"). So Portis has some mileage on his legs but that doesn't necessarily mean he can't be a productive player. This does provide causation for his relatively "hampered" status. He is a true gamer in so much he plays when hurt but it limits his overall effectiveness (burst through the line, yards after contact, lateral quickness). Again, despite all of this he has still proven to be a dominant and consistent back who you can rely on.

Now lets take into account his yardage for the first three games: 62, 79, 42. Sweet beans! That is abysmal. What happened to those workman like 25 carries for 120 yards and 2 TD performances? Lots of things.

1) He is getting older and despite being only 28, he has the mileage of someone 2 or 3 years older than he is. He is currently in the career yardage range of Fred Taylor (32), Warrick Dunn (33), Jamal Lewis (29), Shaun Alexander (31). His career yardage equates to the same amount of someone whose 2 or 3 years older than he actually is. (This is also very comparable to attempts - as he has over 2,099). He is older than 28 in terms of how much he has been used.

2)Due to the incredible amount of strain on Portis's body, his body continues to deteriorate at an alarming rate. Currently, he is suffering from bone spurs and a hurt ankle. Bone spurs were what Brian Westbrook was treated for over the summer and are incredibly painful fragments of bone lodge between joints. This can only be cured through surgery. Otherwise, it is rest (less practice time), pain killers and caution. Normally when skill positions suffer a chronic injury, they are forced to compensate which increases strain on other muscles groups and leads to...more injury (i.e. Brandon Marshall). This only accelerates his decline.

3)The Redskins offensive line is thin and untalented. I'm not entirely sure this needs to be elaborated on. They are very bad. Without a stout offensive line, Portis is asked to create more on his own which at this point he is physically incapable of doing.

4) Finally, the last point - Portis is in an unfavorable team situation. That is, the Redskins have proven to be an incompetent offense that are incapable of consistent offensive production and effective defensive pressure. Their defense is porous which allows opponents to score and then the Redskins are forced to play from behind which leads to more throws. They have quickly abandoned the run in two of the three games and Portis is in competition with a prefered receiving back in Ladell Betts, who Zorn is committed to getting more touches too.

Clinton Portis is truly trading on his name and reputation and nothing more. He is no longer a viable fantasy starter. Best case scenario, he's a inconsistent bye-week plug in. Worst case - he loses he job to Betts, he has season ending surgery, or he continues to under perform due to a horribly coached team, poor offensive line, and nagging chronic pain. He is Shaun Alexander.

As for McFadden - lets preface this with saying, The Raiders are terrible. Even worse, they are insane. They are often illogical to Greek tragedy proportions and show no signs of changing. I understand your apprehension to the "situation" that McFadden is in. He is in a timeshare. They lack an effective passing game that allows defenses to scheme around the run game.

The situation that McFadden is in is certainly difficult, but system wise, and potential wise he is a far better play that Portis is.

1) He's young and talented. You cannot underestimate or undervalue youth. He has barely any wear on his body and possesses All-World speed. He is an extremely capable pass-catcher and is one of the few backs in this league that is capable of effective sweep or turning a corner with breakaway speed. Purely on talent alone, he is superior to Portis. McFadden will continue to improve in the coming season and in the coming years - he has barely scratched the surface of his immense talents while Portis has peaked and well in his decline. Above all else, McFadden is healthy. He is not hindered by old strains or pulls, bone fragments or head trauma. He who plays - will receive points.

2)Skill set. As I said before, Russell and the collection of XFL rejects that comprise the WR core of the Raiders are incapable of providing a legitimate threat that any defensive coordinator will focus on the run. That means, eight in the box at all times. However McFadden possess incredible hands that allow him to remain relevant in the passing game. Stack eight in the box? Fine, I'll receive a pass in the flat. Cover 2? Fine, I'll run it up the gut. He is versatile while Portis remains one-dimensional and does not have the option of playing in the passing game with Betts available. This increases McFadden's value even more in a PPR league.

3) Team System - Cable has spoken to the fact that he acknowledges that McFadden is their best weapon. He said he plans to scheme with him in mind at least 20 plays a game. This may be 12 carries, 8 targets, or 20 carries. Who knows. But McFadden is central and does not seem to be threatened by the presence of Michael Bush. In fact, it could be a mutually beneficial relationship like Deuce and Reggie shared in New Orleans. Portis's value lies in volume. The threat of Betts is far greater than McFadden sharing with Bush.

So, if I were in this similar situation - I would look towards McFadden as the clear choice between the two options. Portis is done. McFadden is just beginning.

As for Romo for T.J.? I'm comfortable with this as well. Schaub and Romo are comparable QB's - one is not appreciably better than the other. He's the real trick of the matter - he can only start one of them at a time. A 30 point performance from Romo on his bench doesn't help CFL win his game. So what good does having an excellent second QB do him? None - except to trade.

Well, he should trade him for something solid then. The problem is - almost everyone has a better or comparable QB already and wouldn't give a decent player for Romo because you know...points on your bench doesn't mean losing points from trading away a starter. There were two teams that needed such an obvious upgrade at QB. Lightning Bolts (Pennington) and Me (Orton). CFL tried to move Romo to me but I wouldn't give him a starter - as I didn't see Romo giving me enough points over Orton. 11 points on avg vs. 15? Not enough to thin out my starting talent. That left CFL with one option - try to secure a starter from Lightning.

Tony Romo, a useless 15 points on his bench - for TJ Houshmanzadeh, 7 points in his starting lineup. Doesn't seem like much of a choice for me. CFL needed the help to improve his WR core with Steve Smith being his only clear starter. TJ is certainly more valuable to him than Caldwell, or Randel El who might be the most inconsistent human being on the face of the planet.

The way I see this trade is that Toronto CFL scored a young, potentially explosive RB Keeper, and a possession style WR2 in a PPR league for...a dying - not just falling - dying star battling injuries and a QB that sat his bench.

Regardless - I love the move and I applaud the risk.

Lets keep trading kids. Send me offers! It's like I have a fever and the only prescription is more trading.

I agree I'd much rather have McFadden than whats left of Portis at this point in a keeper league.

So then its just that value making up the difference in Romo/Housh which makes it about even.

I wasn't complaining I have know Barilko for years on these boards- I don't think he would do anything that inst on the up and up. I know the guy loves to acquire draft picks.

My only question mark for the trade was that Portis has out rushed McFadden for the 1st 3 games, and TJ hasn't really preformed like he should be- I want to say he has about 50 yards a game and no touchdowns.

I can not get on yahoo from work, but I believe Romo has outscored both Portis and TJ together, or atleast close to it even with a poor year to this point.

Yeah, I don't think anyone was thinking you were complaining at all Wiggs. I was just putting my thoughts on the board here.

Over the last 8 games (including last season) Portis has averaged 3.1 YPC and scored 2 TD's, while catching 10 passes.

And yes, Romo has almost outscored both Portis and TJ (although why we are comparing Romo to Portis, I don't know), but like Paul said, I don't get points for having Romo sitting on my bench and watching Schaub rack up massive fantasy points!!!

I look to earn my first win of the season this weekend, and think Run DMC is going to tear up the Houston Defense!

Bush > McFadden IMO

But he's getting paid big $$$ so they have to start him so they don't look like tools. Problem is, Al Davis IS a tool. Used to be such a Raiders fan, he makes it so hard.

Eventually it will play out, but I would be totally unsurprised if a year or 2 from now Bush is far outperforming McFadden... in Oakland or elsewhere.

I traded away Portis in the preseason in another league thinking he was done, more or less the rationale above... but he's actually surprised me and looked MUCH better this year than I thought he would. The numbers aren't there, but if you're watching the games he does show surprising burst and power that he didn't show last season.

Bravo, Paul...Bravo! That was A+ analysis. I think the trade is beneficial for both sides.

In a keeper league with our scoring format, Randy gets a solid QB + a starting RB for the potential of a guy who COULD (COULD - I.E. The raiders actually get their act together) be a top 5 fantasy draft pick and a guy who will get 70-80 receptions and possibly 1,000 yards. But if McFadden doesn't turn things around, B6 at least took a shot!

Doug - Anyone who knows me knows that I was the biggest Reggie Bush fan. That being said, I disagree. Reggie has proven time and time again that he cannot be an every down back / run between the tackles. He is a glorified 3rd down back who will likely find himself on another team next year (due $8m 2010, $11m 2011) barring a HUGE paycut. McFadden can at least touch the ball 20x a game...but in the Raiders system, who knows...

I am anticipating another essay from Shanghai...Honestly, it looks like a lot on the surface, but in all likelihood he's going to get the better end of the deal.

Larry Johnson is the AFC West equivalent of Jamal Lewis, plodding his way to 2.6 ypc. Given the fact the PT Cruiser is on a bye, Frank Gore & Felix Jones are injured...I needed a back.

Shanghai now has a WR Corps of Boldin/Mason/Welker...in a PPR! Not to mention he also has Manningham on the bench or flex depending on RB byes...

As for Mason, he never misses a start, is in a potent passing offense, and projects to 80/1100/6TD's, at worst.

Not too bad for 3 guys that would never crack his starting lineup come playoff time.

Took some time to pen the following...let me know what you guys think!

1) Stray Dougs – New York Giants : Firing on all cylinders. Living up to their reputation as a perennial contender each week getting the job done.

2) GO’s Beer Money Inc. – Indianapolis Colts: You knew they would be vastly improved with their keepers, but the way they are dominating this season makes them a force to be reckoned with come playoff time.

3) Daredevils – Chicago Bears: Finished on the outside looking in last year, got their franchise QB (Cutler) and are surprising people with how effective they can be.

4) Shanghai Surprise – New York Jets: New Head Coach/Manager came in and shook up a downtrodden franchise. They are now a playoff contender with serious firepower.

5) NY Studs – San Diego Chargers: High expectations coming into the season and have put up plenty of points, but have also had a lot scored against them. Both teams are 2-2 and will be fighting for a win each week.

6) MJD – Jacksonville Jaguars: Another 2-2 team…up and down from the egg in Week 1 to a dominating “where did this come from?” performance (like last week). Potential playoff contender, but their resume needs a little bit more work before we make that declaration.

7) Wiggs – Houston Texans: High expectations coming into the season & can put up points, but will be back and forth fighting for a playoff spot all season.

8) The Tdotters – Dallas Cowboys: Team with boatloads of talent, but just can’t seem to put it together week-in and week-out. Expectations would point towards a playoff spot, but the inconsistency could come back to hurt them.

9) Michigan Kannons – Green Bay Packers: - Franchise QB that has to carry the entire team. Can it last all season? Only time will tell.

10) Body by Mangini – Tennessee Titans : Came into the season with tremendous, championship, expectations only to get derailed by injuries (more Seahawks than Titans) and heartbreaking losses (Titans). They go into week 5 facing a must win vs. GO next week (Titans / Colts).

11) ROHbot – Miami Dolphins: From the bottom to the top in 2008 to struggling in 2009. It is definitely desperate times for Tree’s squad as he is going to face an uphill battle to make the playoffs.

12) Promize Dawgs – Seattle Seahawks: Talent is there and was a trendy preseason pick to make the playoffs but are not delivering on the expectations. They need to turn things around quick or it could be too late…

13) Lightning Bolts – Oakland Raiders: Like the Raiders, they have one win and aren’t putting up a great deal of points. Both squads have the mix of Vets and Speed. Like the Raiders, they aren’t producing.

14) Toronto CFL Argos – Buffalo Bills: Fitting that both teams are synonymous with each other. B6 “shook” things up in the off-season, cashing in his chips for a potential playoff run. Like the Bills, they have fell far short of expectations and are likely going to miss the playoffs barring a miraculous recovery.

I also have no clue how I won this week without Matt Ryan, Fitzgerald, Micheal Turner and Celek.

And Brett Favre has been a blessing and the perfect backup in a keeper league.

Not very often trades work out like that for both sides...Treetook some risk but got Sims-Walker (now the Clear-Cut #1 in Jacksonville), Colston (#1 with Brees throwing the ball), and Mendenhall (PIT Starting Back) in exchange for a top 5 WR (Boldin) and top 10 back (Slaton).

That's how you win in any league. Take some risk and hope it pays off...

Great write up Slizz...fun to read!!!!

Yeah, I don't know what happened with my team.
Of my extra picks, I got:

Knowshon Moreno: He is starting to come around a little the last two games and think he will be ok.

Dallas Clark: The only player on my team actually doing something week in and week out.

Matt Schaub: I regretted taking him almost as soon as I picked him. He has had 2 amazing weeks, and 2 terrible weeks.

LeSean McCoy: I was really high on this guy, especially since I owned Westbrook. He will come around and be ok.

Anthony Gonzalez: Such high hopes for him this season, flamed out so far due to injury.

I have some key bye players out of the way, so I look to get on a little bit of a roll here now.

In fact, I feel sorry for MJD though, because this weekend Coach B will be getting in there and firing up the troops. I am calling for a guaranteed win this weekend.

11) ROHbot – Miami Dolphins: From the bottom to the top in 2008 to struggling in 2009. It is definitely desperate times for Tree’s squad as he is going to face an uphill battle to make the playoffs.

personally, i think you're overestimating the straits my team is in.

i'm #7 in scoring, the four teams i've played are a combined 12-4 (has anyone else had a schedule that rough??), and i've been without my #1 QB most of the season.

If he does...I anticipate that you'll be holding your breath for a while (at least 6-8 weeks). We all saw how the Roy Williams (Dallas) experiment went...and he has a Rookie QB slinging that rock.

Definite long-term buy though.

I was in Southern California last weekend for a high school reunion, and the wifi at my hotel wasn't working. Because of the flurry of activities, I neglected to set my lineup, and was fortunate to escape with a victory, given that two starters were on bye.

I got a lot of flack last year for trading Boldin for Cedric Benson and DeSean Jackson, and again for making Benson a keeper this season. Suddenly, Benson is a top 5 RB, and Jackson is a constant threat to put up big points, so it's not always easy to analyze a trade at its initial conception.

Initially, I hated the way we have it now as I wanted to squat on my #1 or #2 waiver priority until a worthwile player came along.

However, I think it does help out teams that really need it in order to maintain the competitive balance in the league.

It also forces owners to make waiver claims and what not instead of scour the FA wire and hope that the guy they want makes it through waivers.

I see more activity this way than the other.

251Doug
      ID: 351027518
      Tue, Nov 10, 2009, 12:45
Yeah, I'm in a few leagues where waiver priority resets weekly based on standings (and others where it's just rolling all season long), but in all the others that start out resets, the resetting ends somewhere around week 6-10... I guess I had just falsely assumed we were the same.

The idea of resets is to help out the teams that get off to a rough start and help encourage the parity of the league... but then at some point it gets a bit ridiculous that teams that have played well early in the season never get a single shot a top waiver pickup... even if you have 2-3 of your guys go down to injury, your early season record prevents you from dropping enough in the rankings to ever have a shot at it. So this sort of hybrid approach seems best IMO... reset for over half the fantasy season (say through week 8) so the slow starters can have a chance to compete, but then go a regular rolling system from that point on so that you have to make strategic decisions rather than churning through waiver pickups every single week with no cost or strategic impact whatsoever.

Just a thought for next year. Fortunately I don't think it's been a big problem in our league thus far, but I'd rather be proactive about it.

252Doug
      ID: 351027518
      Tue, Nov 10, 2009, 12:47
Oh, you're saying Yahoo doesn't allow a hybrid approach, even on initial league setup? Weird. I guess that definitely limits our options.

I definitely think the hybrid is best, but if that's off the table... meh, I guess just keep it the way it is.

Still looking to move LeSean McCoy, with Westbrook out he is a great starter and/or Kevin Smith.

Prices won't be cheap though as both can make excellent future keepers for me.

I think setting your lineup each week should be a standard for staying in the league.

Kannon's left a player on bye with plenty of options on the bench this week.

I hope he's ok. If so, I hope he returns to being an active owner immediately. There's a couple decent waiver pickups to be had this week.

Happened in my game last week. Two inactive injured players (no
secret all week, though Boldin might have been a surprise) and 2
empty IDP slots with 2 on the bench to fill them.

It would not have changed the outcome of the game, but it could
upset the competitive balance of the league. Yahoo public leagues
are for that kind of BS.

Normally I'd be elated being at the top after week 10, but the only reason I'm there is because Kannons didn't set his lineup, so it feels very hallow.

He just recently made a trade, so it's really a mystery.

Getting several offers for NYG Steve Smith. I'm mulling them
over and will decide if I'm even dealing him prior to our current
trade deadline... wish I had another week to decide.

I'm out of the playoffs and in rebuild mode, but don't want to
risk last place consequences.

Plus he's headed towards a top 5 WR stats wise in our format
and only figures to get better, as this is only his 3rd year.

Offers involving high draft pick(s) and/or young keeper talent
will get the most serious consideration.

Possibly waiting until prior to next year's draft to decide is also
an option I'm considering.

Sorry all, I've not had much access other than email all week as I sent in the notice I sent via email last week.

I don't know what else can be done with the Ronnie Brown thing cause there really isn't a way to confirm what was going on there.

Leinart should have been available til 1 PM, not sure what the deal was there. I can still adjust that one since I had an email from you with both guys involved before their game.

I checked and it should be 12:55pm EST when waivers lock (according to their server clock, so could be off by a few minutes from yours). Anything timestamped 12:50 or sooner I'd say is "pre-waiver lock", otherwise c'est la vie.

Wow I'm not gonna be one to bitch to much, but should there not be some sort of vote rather than just assigning Leinart to Wiggs team? That has huge playoff implications and yes I understand it gives GO a loss, but I dunno about that as it all but clinches a spot for my team.

I mean I accidentally left Michael Bush on cause I didnt realize he was playing Thursday, and was a few mins late replacing him. The amount of times I've been screwed by lack of judgement on my part by playing too close to roster freezes as well as yahoo screwups goes hand in hand.

Yeah, unless there's some demonstrable case that the site definitely screwed up then I agree... if you tried picking him up after waivers had locked for everyone, well, then you tried picking him up after waivers locked for everyone. If it's something demonstrably flawed on the site (like, you were sending emails well in advance to try and resolve it then fine (not a minute or two ahead of deadline), but otherwise I guess it was just cutting it too close... happens on pickups, happens on dropping players who are inactive, and so on. *shrug*

Oh, just saw the post on the league site (don't use that much lol)... ok, so the timestamp here isn't until 2:48pm... GO your post is unclear... are you saying you received the email from Wiggs at 12:30pm, or that you a received an email later saying "Hey I tried adding him at 12:30pm"? Just trying to make sure I understand this correctly.

I sent him an email around 1230 saying there was a problem and it wouldn't let me pick him up. I thought maybe the waivers froze after Thursday nights games, but then I saw others were able to pick people up. When I did not hear back from GO as of half time of the 1st games I posted on here. I then did receive a message back shortly after saying he would take care of it.

I also wanted to say that I think GO did an awesome job as usual as the commish with this- Even though I was playing him and this change allowed me to beat him (Thank you Reggie Bush for not playing, or this would be a moot point anyways) he did what he thought was right rather then simply saying "tough break"

Yeah, had the email from before the freeze stating what he was trying to do and it wasn't letting him. Figured since none of the players involved had played already it was the fair thing to do.

Of course it might knock me out of the playoffs! but oh well.. lol...

If the email came in at 12:30, I think its a no brainer. If it came after the freeze, I also think its a no brainer, albeit the other way.

Sounds like it came before the freeze, and with Palmer on Wiggs' bench, its not like he didn't have another option to go with, so I am ok with the move.

not sure if anything can be done now, but I think we need to allow teams out of the playoffs to still pick up FAs. We are all still playing for week and season high scores. maybe don't allow us to claim on the 1st run or something but right now I have an injury in my db spot and can't do anything about it. what do u think?

High scores are only during the regular season when they are keeping score for everyone. I'll expressly add it to the league constitution if its not in there already. I know it was broken out in the $ amount that it was 13 weeks of high scores but I guess I didn't specify.

Football season is right around the corner!

When are we going to do our Draft Lottery so we can finally get things kick-started here in Football 101?!?!

I have some leftover keeper-quality players that I know could use a home on another squad:

RB - Felix Jones
RB - Matt Forte
RB - Pierre Thomas
RB - Frank Gore
TE - Jason Witten
TE - Dallas Clark

I'm looking to make a deal in a 2 for 1 trade (RB/TE or RB/RB) for an upgrade at RB, or just deal each individually for picks.

Update on my skill-position keeper-quality players for sale:

RB - Frank Gore: For a team who needs depth at RB...I'll definitely shop Gore & Thomas for an RB upgrade on my behalf.

RB - Pierre Thomas: Contract year in New Orleans...you know he's gonna ball out...tendering at the 2nd round level.

RB - Matt Forte: I honestly think I'm keeping Forte as my gut says he bounces back (that and the fact I traded Steven Jackson for him...)

RB - Donald Brown: Future buy if you're rebuilding. We know Addai isn't coming back next season and the Colts RB is a must-start every week due to Peyton-effect...

TE - Dallas Clark: can't go wrong with either Clark or Gates at the TE position. Leaning towards keeping him as he's just as good as a tier 1 WR...but he gives you that production at TE!

TE - Jason Witten: he's gonna get you 85-95 receptions and 950-1100 yards on the season. Dez Bryant is only going to help his cause.

Sorry Wiggs, Jack, Tree and Eric for misthinking out loud.

Before posting #339, I failed to engage my small, over burdened mind to proof-read what I was posting and intending to communicate. The correct post follows:

I will send prospective offer(s) later this week. (not later today)

My intention was to announce that I will be waiting untill more managers disclose their non-keepers. I will not be as proactive (running around like a chicken with it's head cut off) as opposed to my actions during the past 48 hours.

Also, I remembered from last year when -- when the draft utility is up on Yahoo tonight at 8:59 it won't reflect all the trades (we all got nervous last year)... but once it goes into Live Draft mode it applies all the pick trades and reshuffles.

I was curious what you guys though about the playoff setup. Do you think 6 teams is enough? Should we take a look at 8 teams? I think it stinks that the top teams don't really get that bye week bonus... but that seems like a better amount of teams in the playoffs.

I don't know. Just thinking for next year and beyond.

I emailed Tree, but for all, the basic theory behind that rule...

Many leagues don't allow for any moves during the playoff period. Which I thought was insane, and was looking for a way to fairly allow people to make moves. Our league allows for the teams still competing for the title to make moves in a keeper league (but nobody can be a keeper if involved in those moves made). But once you get knocked out you get locked down so you stay out of the way of those competing for the big money.

There is only a 40 buck difference between 3rd and 4th, so I personally am comfortable with those guys just rolling with whoever was on their roster the previous week. If anyone wants to look at that deeper and leave them unlocked, we can certainly vote in the offseason. But to me, the intention of the rule is for everyone to stay out of the way of those fighting for the title.

here's the response i sent to GO in email:

In a nutshell, i see it as the games count, or they dont. If the third place game isn't important enough to allow teams to field the best players available, then why play it?

I think what happened to my team is the perfect example. Solid team all season then losing MJD and i can't pick up his backup or even someone like mercury morris, and instead have to use a third stringer like Choice.

To me it's simple. The games count or they don't.

i either think it oughta be no one picks up players at skill positions (RB, WR, QB) or everyone active still can do so.

or, a third alternative is that if your starter goes down, you can pick up his back up, but that's all.

I think this rule was developed to be a compromise between leagues that allow absolutely no moves during the playoffs and being able to cover an injury if you are in contention for the big money.

Anyone with any other ideas feel free to propose a few options and we'll throw them up for vote in the next few weeks while football is still on our minds.

Yeah - Tax, we have a rule in place where nobody added in the playoffs can be kept. I copy all Add's after the playoffs start and will compare them to the keepers.

I'm gonna email them all shortly. Also gonna allow Kyle to make a deal to upgrade his keepers so everyone can email him their leftovers with a draft pick price attached and help him get set with his keepers.

Alright...here is the Season Prognosis from the eyes of....me! Now the key here is to not get too upset when you see your team getting a poor review. Keep in mind I am still searching for my first money season, so if I don't like your players, that actually might bump you up into a playoff spot.

And of course, its always who works the waiver wire best that produces a great season....but without any further comments...here are the comments:

Great One: How can you win without a kicker?!? But seriously, a great one/two/three punch from Rice, Ryan and Calvin, and he seems to have had a desire to lock down both the top rookie WR's in Green and Jones. Hopefully for his sake, and not mine, they can shake the rookie WR jinx. Can Hillis repeat last year's numbers? Well...his numbers from the first part of the season anyways? Ray Rice is my pick for top point getter for the year, barring an injury, which I hope he gets just for one week, week 4. Other than that, I hope he is awesome this year. I also really like Owen Daniels too. GO also seems to have a crush on dual role guys like the good, the bad, and the so-so---Sproles (good), Cribbs (so-so), and McCluster (not so good). All in all, with the big 3 leading the way, this team has a nice chance to push for a top spot.

Wiggs: Will be bringing back Michael Vick....and he has to be praying that Vick can repeat AND manage to stay relatively healthy behind that suspect O-Line. I hate it that I play Wiggs' in week 5, as I was hoping for a later matchup when Vick was banged up from a longer season! Not a huge fan of the RBs here, with Lynch and DeAngelo on bad teams, that might not get a chance to run as much as someone on a better team, plus with Jonathan Stewart stealing touches, as well as a coaching philosophy change in Carolina, it could be a long year for DeAngelo. He did just sign a huge deal, so Carolina will play him to justify it. As always Wiggs has a nice set of starting WRs. Brandon Marshall always seems to be underrated, and then comes in and posts some great numbers. This year he will get back to some of his past glory after a somewhat off season for him last year. OchoCinco should bounce back as well, and TE Finley can be a beast if healthy. Not a huge fan of Spiller in the starting line-up, but he might surprise.

Daredevils: A solid starting lineup all the way down. Larry has the chance to have a huge bounce back year, as Kolb has to be better than the pu-pu platter of chuckers Fitz had to work with last year. DJax and Gates are also great guys to plug into his starting lineup. I think Manning will have a drop in production this year, but still post good enough numbers at the QB slot. I was surprised at how high Tolbert was drafted, and, as a Ryan Mathews owner I could be biased, but I don't see him coming close to posting similar stats to last year. He also snagged another of my handcuffs in Whatchu Talkin' Bout Willis, who could post nice stats in a Foxy situation in Denver. See what I did there, Foxy? Awesome. Turner is on his last leagues, but wisely snagged Jacquizz to provide some protection.

Dirty Slaughts: As Tree himself mentioned, his team is a potential injury nightmare, and once again, if I could create my own schedule, I would have placed Tree as my opponent earlier than week 7. (Although by week 7, MJD will have a better chance to be out, so maybe I might get lucky!) With no injuries, I think it would be tough to beat his Keeper 4 of Manning, Foster, MJD, and Mendy, but injuries, and potential injuries, will knock that ranking down a little. Without a first round pick, there is value here with guys like Flacco and Collie, and then some nice sleepers I was looking at in Cook and Chung, plus he managed to cuff MJD with Karim, who looks like a nice RB. Not a huge fan of Jordy Nelson, if only because the NFL won't change the rules and let Green Bay throw more than one football on any give Sunday, and with all those weapons on the field, it will be hard for Jordy to put up great stats I think. This team's success is linked solely to the health of 3 of the 4 keepers, and if they don't miss too many games, Tree will be dangerous.

Barilko: Started with a couple of big question marks at RB, with Moreno and Mathews not coming anywhere close to meeting the expectations that were attached to them out of college. Another question is if McCoy can repeat last year's breakout season. Schaub is an underrated QB that belongs in the conversation with the top QBS. I like my additions of Witten and Amendola, but admit I might of reached on Danny Boy a little early. (Other option would have been Santonio Holmes, so we'll see how they compare.) While I might be biased, I really like the makeup of my team this year, I think Delone will be the starter sooner rather than later, because his talent is Addai for. HA! Another pun! I like guys like Colston, Kolb, Kendricks and Ridley where I got them, offering value, but I think I could have passed on Rice, as Seattle doesn't have a great QB. On the plus side, at least the Seahawks suck, so they will be throwing like crazy. If Moreno and Mathews can breakout, and with Fox running the show in Denver I think Moreno has a great shot at breakage, then I like my team to go far.

Taxman: I really liked his trade just before the deadline for Miles Austin. Austin is going to have a monster year this year I think. The only part I didn't like about it was that he already had the #2 in Dallas in Dez. That might not be an ideal combo on tough weeks and the bye week, and I am not as huge on Dez as most others seem to be. But Austin is great. Big Ben is pretty great too, and also underrated. He always just seems to post great numbers every year. Last year, even with the rust and suspension, he was a great option for the Taxman. The running back corps here leave a lot to be desired. I like Freddy, but the remaining combo of PT, Scott, and Harrison will need to have some major help. And there are way too many QBs on this roster named Jason Campbell. 3 QBs, 2 Def, and 4 IDP makes for a very light bench, so I am guessing Taxman will be watching the waiver wire like crazy early on, and once again I wish I could change the schedule and match up against him earlier than I do. Instead I get the Dallas Duo when they play what is going to be a high scoring shootout against the Rams.

NY Studs: The biggest mover and shaker from last year, which was evident in all the picks he acquired for this year. Finally I get a nice matchup against Studs, as the Glass QB will most likely be out by the time I have to play against him. Probably the second best 1-2-3 WR punch in our league with VJax, Jennings and Holmes. Studs pulled a reverse Great One here and loaded up on all the rookie RBs (except the best one, Carter), and if someone these guys hit, Studs will be laughing. Between Ingram, Tate, Hunter, and Hardesty, I see a lot of potential game breakers. I wanted Hardesty, but waited too long to pick him up. With no back-up on the roster, hopefully for Studs Stafford can stay healthy, if not I have Kolb available for trade. If Gore can stay healthy, and one or two of the rookies can step up, this team will look great come the playoffs.

Doug: Since Doug always seems to place in the standings I should just say his team is awesome, will make the final 3, and then move on to the next team. Instead, I will just say that his primary core of guys like Rodgers, CJ, AJ, and Britt....yes Britt....is awesome. I also like the value he got in Santana Moss, Marcedes Lewis, and Reggie Bush. Hopefully Lewis won't spend all of his time this season as a blocker for Cam though. If he does, Doug has a nice backup in place with Hernandez. Murray is also a nice potential sleeper with Felix never showing he can handle the full load in Dallas. On the flip side, I think Blount's production falls off from last year, Vereen is too far down the depth chart to be on a roster, and, and, and....I got nothing. This team is pretty great.

Promize: This team sure has some promize at the top, as Brees and Peterson are an elite 1-2 at the top of the order. Can Jahvid Best turn things around? Can Stevie Johnson come close to repeating last year's breakout season? Can Sims-Walker be the next Brandon Lloyd for a McDaniels led offense? The guy I cringed a little on seeing go so early was Ryan Grant. I think he might be scared whenever he sees a fork this year, because, wait for it, he might be done. (Don't laugh Tony Gonzalez, you're not that far away from the same prognosis!) Ok, you can laugh a little. While the starters seem decent, I am not sold on this bench here, and Promize is going to need some of these bench guys to step it up to secure team success.

Lightning Bolts: This is a love/hate team for me, as I love a lot of the guys here, and I dislike a lot of the guys here too. Romo is going to be really good with all of his weapons this year, and will be fine at the top for this team. If Harvin can stay healthy this year, he will be great. His biggest problem is that you never know what you have, as he always seems to be a game time decision. Frustrating. Can McFadden reproduce his stats from last year? "Hue" betcha he can! His biggest fan is also the guy who can best dictate his touches. I also like the Beanster, but I don't see the Cards running a lot this year. I mean they didn't run a lot last year, and this year they actually have a passable QB, so the throws might be a-rising. Evans, Pettigrew, and Brown are good value where drafted, but Addai isn't someone I am looking to for having a good year.

T-Dotters: First off, a huge assist to Twarpy for helping run my draft. If any of my picks don't work out, I can simply say that Twarpy went off my board and tried to sabotage me. A very nice collection of WRs here, with a huuuuuuuuuge 747 flyer taken on Randy Moss. You could do worse than taking a chance on a guy like that with your last pick, so its a nice chance taken. I think Wayne will have a big year, as Collins should lock into him during his struggles, and then when Peyton gets back it will be like old times for the two of them. Charles and Bradshaw are a great combo at the RB slot, two guys that will carry Twarpy to wins on weeks by themselves. Starks will be the primary ball-carrier in Green Bay before long, and there is a nice TE plug and play combo here to work with. I like Boldin as a good value pick, Sanchez as a nice spot starter, and the Jets as a defensive option. Not as big on Steve Smith...he has talent, but I don't know if Cam is the guy to get the numbers from him. All in all, a good team here.

Slizz: His 1-2-3 at WR rivals, and probably surpasses Studs' combo. Amazing trio of receivers here. I think all three guys fall off from their numbers last year, but all 3 can afford to lose a little and still be elite guys. I am also a huge fan of Bradford's potential this year, leading the McDaniels' offense. Forte is great in this scoring format, and will be jonesing for a big year with the contract status up in the air. Benson is Benson, will post solid, but unspectacular, numbers, and will be a good option all year, so long as he doesn't end up in prison again. Having Dalton as his QB will hurt too, but he still remains a good RB2. Dallas Clark, Bush, Cutler, Miller, and Torain all offer great value at their draft spots, and will help Slizz move into the playoffs this year.

Blind Squirrel: While looking for some nuts, this team looks like it was hanging around near the IDP tree too much! 5 guys? Wow! Luckily there is some talent on the at the QB position here. Other than that, the Squirrels will need a repeat from Lloyd (not likely), a breakout from Manningham (looking good), and some major help at RB. Tomlinson was picked too early, JStew hopefully can finally put together that breakout season that everyone has been dying for, and Plaxico can become the Plax of old! Branch was good value where he went, and the Philly D has added some great talent. Otherwise, this team is going to need some help I think.

Kyle: The newest guy to the league hit the ground running with a nice trade in giving up only a 3rd to get Bowe. Bowe won't get 15 TDs again, but will put up good numbers as the primary option at WR. Hopefully for Kyle Cassel doesn't miss too many games because I think the guy that Keanu Reeves played in the Replacements is the backup in Kansas City. A very nice combo at WR is followed up by a nice pairing at RB if both SJAx and Felix can stay healthy. QB Freeman posted some great numbers last year, but this year the schedule goes from cream puff to beef jerky, and that might hurt the numbers this year for Joshua. If Shanny doesn't mess around too much, Hightower could be a great addition in Washington, posting good numbers for the HD, but its always hard to trust RBs in his system. I still like Hightower here though. Hines isn't as done as people think, and I am looking for a bounce back season for him with Wallace taking all the double teams over to his side of the field.

When using the draft pick trade offer utility, we can't really account for keepers I don't think. So I will enter keepers next year in rounds 15-19.

So please trade rounds 1-14 when making deals. 1 will be your first draft pick and 14th will be the last round we pick.

This is an oddity I'm not used to. 10 of my 13 starters have 4:00 pm or later starts, 7 of which are in the 4:00 round of games. Since my Colts (guh) aren't playing until Sunday night, and none of my players are televised here, looks like I have no rooting interest in any game I'll watch at noon.

That is pretty odd, do you have mainly west coast guys? Sometimes they can be a disadvantage, thats for sure. So can being on a premier team like the Patriots or Packers and they are on multiple Sunday/Monday/Thursday games making lineups tricky if they are questionable ala Romo tonight.

If they are healthy its fine of course. And frankly better cause you can watch your guys in action but it can certainly cause headaches.

I'm 3-8 and I've scored more points than the current 2nd place team (which is 8-3).

Why? Because my "points against" is off the charts... 1640... the second highest total is 1480 and the majority of teams are below 1400.

Just one of those years I guess...

wiggs get them offers out. You should check out GO's squad...i'm sure he could accommodate you with the surplus of talent he has.

I'm set...same keepers as last year.

RB - Forte (all but untouchable as i'm a biased bears fan)
WR - Roddy White
WR - Mike Wallace
WR - Hakeem Nicks

I would be willing to trade one of my WR's in a 1 for 1 to change it up...

I would probably be looking for a keeper as well. I currently am happy with LeSean McCoy, Ryan Mathews, and Marques Colston, but need that 4th guy to complete the squad.

I will check rosters next week, but if you want to get in before the crowd, let me know who is available.

That is accurate, Decker ineligible to be kept cause he was added in the postseason. Should just probably cancel that trade.

We really need to either find 1 more manager or talk about contraction of 2 teams. wg is ready to go as one of the new ones... but we need to find another in the next week so we can get this thing set.

I haven't even tried to process what the heck to do with draft times.

wg had a great idea about the two new teams by the way that I suppose I can put to vote but I don't think it'll be necessary. I would think most will like it.

The two abandoned teams - one is really good, one is terrible... so instead of screwing whoever loses the coin flip right off the bat, the idea would be a simple combining of the two rosters and the 2 new guys pick 4 names each (snake?) from the two combined rosters.

Still need to find one more manager! think think think... bueller?

Frankly the two new guys could circumvent us and just agree to it themselves (and just "trade" guys back and forth) so really us getting behind it will only help make it more structured. Help them out.

Reminds me of getting to the final 2 teams and splitting the pot with your opponent as sometimes happens in fantasy or march madness pools.

And no... still no 14th team. We really need to find that team somewhere somehow. I've got a friend of the family I'm gonna ask but I don't think he's ever done a keeper league. He's pretty good though in regular leagues and a big trash talker... which I enjoy - to beat! :)

GREAT news... we've got another Gurupie on board. Please welcome our two new managers Frick and WG!

So I think we're gonna proceed with this dispersal draft which is the best for everyone involved. I will merge the 2 abandoned teams rosters together. Frick/wg will have a snake draft to select 4/1 keepers (4 regular, 1 IDP). After that they can try and buy up leftover keepers from others and their teams should be reasonably competitive right off the bat.

So thanks again and please welcome the new guys.

Glad we've got it settled... and welcome to the new managers!

Please see post 486 for my intended keepers and non-keepers. Non-keepers are available cheaply if you think they'd upgrade your last keeper slot. My intended keepers are also available, but the cost would be much higher. :)

So here is a follow up question. I am not sure but I think NY/Squirrells traded draft picks. So how do I deal with that and the new teams?

Do I flip a coin and each team gets the picks associated that NYStuds or Squirrells left behind?

We can help balance the teams with the dispersal draft but I don't know how to deal with the picks. And I can't figure out exactly what the picks are until the new guys sign up under the old franchises.

The Barilko/Beezer situtation has stalled because Barilko has already kind of disappeared and we can't get him to confirm the arrangement with Beezer. If he doesn't want to split the load and let Beezer manage for just the one season we need to start over there.

Also Twarpy I have a feeling is out now, he hasn't gotten back to me but quit his other leagues yesterday. These Canadians are killing me :)

Giving them both til the weekend is over to get back in and then will figure it out.
I do think I have 2 more guys lined up resulting from the previous search but hopefully we don't need them. It would just be easier.

The dispersal draft in the last situation was mainly because one team was really good and the other had very little keeper quality players and we didn't want to screw one team right off the bat... so we could probably leave it up to a coinflip. But I think a fair way would be to let the 2 new owners vote. If they both want to split it up and draft like wg/Frick did thats fine with me.

Hopefully one of Barilko or Twarpy return and we don't have to worry about it.

I've got one guy lined up who I can recommend, and he's checking with a friend of his. I told him to make sure he knows its a multi-year commitment etc.
Since both of these teams are solid a simple coin flip should be adequate. Definitely been a tumultuous offseason for F101. Hopefully we can settle in now and start enjoying the season.

Well losing Studs (and subsequently his cousin) was kind of a 2-1. So that wasn't the end of the world and once Studs left part 2 was kind of expected.
Barilko got sent to Ecuador so who the heck can predict that. Thats just wacky and he hopes to return next year if there is a spot.
Twarpy apparently backed out of all leagues so it wasn't like he just didn't like our league or something.

This new guy Kyle (we'll have 2 Kyles now) is gonna be a bolt of energy, I'll tell you that... he's always making trade offers, trash talking etc. kind of a Blue Hen which is good to have in every league. Keeps it interesting.

As far as the last spot goes, hopefully his buddy takes it after initially expressing interest - cause I don't want to have to start another search.

I can't do anything til we get all the teams squared away. Should know the answer on the last spot tonight when I can talk to my buddy.
Then we need to get the rosters straightened out from the dispersal draft, run the lottery, I'll send out a treasury email and we'll have keepers due Sunday by midnight.

I may also need someone to enter trades/keepers into the system on Monday cause I'll be on the road and not sure what time I'll get back.

So I've confirm the last two spots are my buddy Kyle who I can vouch for and his friend he reccomended. They have even paid in advance!

I am travelling today but tomorrow I'll do a coin flip for their teams and will send them their league rules etc. I am also updating the league constitution for everyone and will blast that out once I get things squared away.

We are still set to draft Monday 9:30 which is the best date I could come up with. Our 1 concern is getting as much possible done in 1 hour cause Wiggs needs to leave for work after 1 hour at 10:30. I have set the time limit down a bit to 1 minute which I think is reasonable and hope everyone can use que's etc to really keep things moving. Hopefully Wiggs will only miss the last few rounds and can just que up best available players before leaving. I think we should be ok.

Uh oh... 2 Kyle's? This league ain't big enough for the two of us.

Thanks for all the work you put into this GO. It's really a yeoman's work to set up a league like this year in and year out.

Like I said, its normally easy - first year with significant turnover which made it difficult. And these last 2 caught us offguard cause they both indicated in the offseason they'd be back.

I do think I am gonna put up for vote the permanent draft date of Tuesday before the season starts at 9 PM. Do you think thats unreasonable to just lock it in every year and be there or else... if people know in advance thats definitley when it is then maybe we can be better prepared.

Heads - Kyle K = Twarpy's team, Matt = Barilko's team

Tails - Kyle K = Barilko's team, Matt = Twarpy's team

Gonna get an independent player to give us a heads or tails tonight so I can knock all this out tomorrow. Results will be above.

Why are we posting/emailing keepers? Yahoo has the function now that we just plug them in to the website. No work for commish at all other then review.

Yah. Once everyone enters their keepers and the deadline passes. The commish is then allowed to review and adjust before committing the keepers. Then I think you can do custome draft

Pick #1: Wiggs
Pick #2: Kyle
Pick #3: Doug

This is the first time I can ever recall that lottery results directly matched the odds for all three picks.

I have no idea how add/drop or trade a player with Yahoo... It won't let me "edit rosters" cause it considers us to be in the off season. So how the heck do I execute an off season trade?

Frick, WG and anyone who made off season deals (and can't "keep" the correct players) just check the ones that are correct on your page and after that much processes I'll go in and correct the wrong ones.

If you have all your keepers able to be checked, make sure they are all checked off by Sunday at 11:59 PM EST.
