13.01 Oshiomogho Atogwe DB STL
I really wanted to get a DB that also returned kicks here, but when I couldn't find one that did both I figured I better get the best available DB. I have Atogwe as the best straight up DB without kick return points so I grabbed him when I had the chance.

13.02 Lofa Tatupu LB SEA
I think Tatupu has been on my team just about every year I've been in the RIFC leagues. He puts up fairly consistent tackle numbers, although he had a down year last year. Julian Peterson is now in Detroit, so hopefully that will allow Tatupu to bounce back.

13.04 Julius Peppers DL CAR
After a disappointing 2007 effort, Peppers returned to form and posted a career-high 14.5 sacks, deflected five passes and notched 51 total tackles. Tremendous pass rusher with speed to the corner and some inside moves.

13.05 Lawrence Timmons LB PIT
How sick is it that all 4 of the Steeler starting LBs have been drafted? Says a lot about why they are the top D. I took Timmons here as he's now the starting ILB replacing *undrafted*. Despite playing passing downs only he had 65 tackles and 5 sacks last season. As Rotoworld says, his "IDP upside is off the charts." Hopefully there are enough tackles, sacks, and other big plays to go around.

This was the last reasonable backup QB in my mind and wanted to grab him. This league it's pretty important with such a deep bench on a medium size league to have a competent starter as the waiver wire has NOBODY.

13.07 Anthony Fasano TE MIA
I had Suggs at the top of my queue for this round after taking Tuck. He's a DE/LB who puts up numbers like the rest of the LB available and gives great flexibility when it comes to your DE bye week. Sadly, he was taken way before it got to me, so Fasano was the guy. He was a TD machine last year for a TE, he's young, and he may outperform a lot of TEs already taken. He also could be a dud, so only time will tell. I'm just hoping I didn't grab him too early since it seems backup QBs are starting to go.

13.08 Derrick Mason, WR, BAL

Just filling out the roster here. Although Mason Did finish twenty sixth overall last year. He should finish higher yet this season. With the young Flacco coming into his own the offense has been passing much more. I'm hoping for 1200 yards and 7 td's. Sometimes I can be a bit optimistic.

13.09 Stephen Cooper LB SDG
Following his return from a four-game suspension last year, Cooper produced like a top shelf LB, yet he can be had at this stage of the RIFC dtaft because he is vastly underrated. Cooper tends to produce consistent tackle numbers and, with the return on Shawne Merriman to the Chargers Defense, he should have more opportunities for big plays.

13.10 Antoine Winfield DB MIN
Winfield is a tackle machine from the DB position. In his last 6 seasons he has an average of over 5 tackles per game. add a PD and assist per game and the occasional INT or FF and you are near 8 pts per game. you won't find that production with many other DBs not being a returner.

13.11 Shawne Merriman LB SDG
I was all set to take a running back here, but couldn't decide between two guys - I'll defer for now and see if one of the next three guys helps make my decision for me. Instead I grabbed my second LB in Merriman. If he comes back from his injury anywhere near his old self, I'll be happy with grabbing him at this point. His stat line seems to be sack-dependent, as he doesn't have huge tackle numbers, but tends to make up for that with sacks and forced fumbles - kind of a high- risk, high-reward guy week-to-week.

13.12 Chad Greenway, LB, MIN

Was trying to decide here if I should take Smith, WR, NYG of Greenway. Thought Guru and Miked would be taking some IDP’s here I decided to get my LB3 position set. Like Greenway because he provides good numbers in tackles, sacks, and forced fumbles. Still young and could improve on a good defense.

13.13 Steve Smith, WR, NYG
13.13 - that’s an ominous pick number.

With Hixon and Smith as the starting WRs for the Giants, it’s hard to know what to expect. Smith won’t likely start for me expect as a bye or injury filler, unless he shows that he deserves it. Seems like a reasonable pick to build some receiving depth. I almost took him two rounds ago. And if he craps out, I’ll blame it on pick double-13.

13.14 Patrick Crayton WR DAL
Probably option 5 on the offense but regardless he should be getting some ball thrown to him each game. Had a down year last year but with TO gone should be in the mix more often this year. Returning punts as well so a lot of extra value there.

14.01 Kyle Orton QB DEN
Was by far the best value of QB left. His 1st preseason game was really bad but it's just preseason and Marshall wasn't playing. Hopefully I'll never have to play him besides on Rivers bye week.

14.02 Chicago Bears defense
I’ve become convinced that forecasting team defense prowess during preseason is folly, as more often than not, the consensus favorites tend to underproduce. For example, last year the Vikings and Chargers seemed to be the top two choices, yet the Vikings ended up ranked 5th overall, and the Chargers ranked #20! The eventual top defense – Baltimore – was an 18th round pick in last year’s RIFC draft. Sadly, I waited until round 17 to take my defense, and then opted for Arizona instead of Baltimore. Oh well, I still finished in the middle of the pack for team defense points.

So far, 9 defenses have been picked, and it’s probably silly for me to jump in now, given the preceding rationale. But I’m hopeful that the Bears can return to a more dominating defensive team, helped by a better offense that will keep the defense off the field longer, and perhaps create more late game interception opportunities.

14.03 Joe Flacco, QB, BAL
I’m not really thrilled with the depth at QB this year. There is quality QB’s at the top I just don’t like what is available as a backup QB. I decided to go with Flacco because of his youth and hopefully his potential for improvement. It sucks by the way that BAL didn’t do anything to help this kid out and get him some WR help.

14.04 Michael Bush RB OAK
Well, no running backs were taken since my last pick, so I still had the same debate about which RB to get. I came to the conclusion that I'd potentially have real regrets if McFadden went down and I didn't have Bush stashed on the bench. I don't suspect Bush to be playable unless there's a bye situation I have to cover for if McFadden is dressing - but if McFadden should have to miss some games I think Bush would be in line to get most the action.

14.05 Green Bay Packers DEF GNB
I finally needed a defense. 10 teams have already taken a defense, so tier 1 is gone. we all know that preseason projections for defense teams do rarely match the actual regular season ranks. a few defenses are always near the top, but not many. I only see the Vikings in the top5 the last 2 years. this is one of the main reasons why I waited that long. the same applies to kickers. the only difference there is that the difference between a bad kicker and a good kicker is not over 10 pts per game.

if you look at some projections and take the average, the best defense available are the Packers. I don't know why they are rated that high, but it is so and thats the reason why I picked them.

14.06 Derrick Johnson LB KAN
Unlike previous disappointing IDP seasons, Johnson is supposed to line up in the Right Inside LB position in the hybrid 3-4 defensive scheme that the Chiefs will implement in 2009. In recent years, Karlos Dansby has enjoyed success in the same position in this scheme. Dansby was selected in the eighth round...Johnson also has big play ability, so I believe this selection, at this stage of the draft, could pay off.

14.07 Quintin Demps, DB, PHI

I had my eye on Lamar Woodly here. But with the way return DB'S were falling off the board. I knew Demps was no longer under the radar. Demps is a starter this year. So he should see a lot more time on the field. Late last season he became a holy terror returning kicks and punts. Best case scenario that stays the same. Plus add on some tackles and picks.

14.08 Shaun Hill, QB, SF

After seeing more and more backup QBs go I felt the need to grab one right here before all of the decent ones were gone. Hill was recently named the starter and performed very well at the end of last season when he started playing. If he performs like that again, he'll hold on to the starting job and I'll be happy with him as a backup and possible matchup QB if Cutler's stats are not good.

This was my second LB in a row. In previous drafts I've loaded up on LBs early, so this is new territory for me (having only 1 after round 12). I drafted Hawk last year and he was only so-so. This year he should be another 'every-down' player. With *undrafted* gimpy, hopefully Hawk will be the MVP of this defense.

14.14 Stewart Bradley LB Phi

Bradley was a beast last season and I do not see him slowing down now. Last season was his 1st season as a full time starter and he really showed what he could do. I am expecting about 100 tackles out of Bradley and I believe this gives me one of the best LB cores in the league.

Bad pick.

15.01 James Laurinaitis LB STL

Possibly a bit of a reach, definitely a bit of a homer pick. I have been following Laurinaitis through his years at Ohio State because I am a huge WWE fan and I loved LOD- When I heard that one of their sons was a LB it drew my interest. Hopefully this kid will play up to his ability and will be a great fill in when the starters have byes.

Someone referred to him as "this year's Eddie Royal." If Bennett does anything close to Royal's 08 numbers, I'd be thrilled. Took over for Hester as return man for Chicago when Hester became a focal point of offense. He's got a lot of speed and gets a few IDP points in the mix in nickel packages. Talks of working him in more for the defense so worth a flyer as a returner with big upside. At this point pretty much everyone getting drafted has some issues, but this round was a queue buster for me. Lots of sleeper names went away. Woodley, Green, Chambers all were at least in the back of my mind. I can't see why Jason Campbell was taken. The guy looks ready to lose his job at a moments notice in that town.

At this point in the draft the RB pool is really starting to get thin and I only had 3 of them, not to mention all 3 have been injured the past year or two and Graham is now looking at a 3 RBBC instead of 2 in Tampa (well, until the 3rd back tears his knee up again). Taylor was at the top of my queue for this round and was glad he made it to me. I don't expect a lot out of him, but he should be a decent fill in for the weeks I may need him. Then there's always the chance ADP goes down with an injury.

Um, I didn't really want to get Greene here - the draft really hit hyperspeed with lots of managers setting queues, and I never got a chance to re-set mine from my last pick. Ah well, he was second in my queue 21 picks ago, but I didn't really need another back. Maybe this'll turn out to be an ingenious move and he'll be the Matt Forte of this year. Looking for a backup QB that I felt I could start for multiple weeks if Shaub gets injured. Pennington ranked #9 among QBs in average pts/game last year – ahead of Romo, Eli, Ryan, Campbell, & Flacco.. (That’s not to say I would expect Pennington to rank ahead of those guys this year – but he certainly could.) I thought he clearly the best option available – and had he disappeared before this pick, I’d have probably waited until a later round and taken a flyer on one of the younger QBs.

I had contemplated selecting a TE a couple of rounds before this, but my targeted players were no longer on the board when it was my turn to select. The time had come to select a TE and I perceived Miller to have the most upside of the TE's that were left.

Miller, the former first round NFL draft pick from Virginia who has posted Top 10 TE numbers in the past, posted career bests in targets and receptions last season. Yet, he finished outside of the top 10 TE because of three TD receptions. TE's as talented as Miller get opportunities, so I believe that he could return to the Top 10 this year.

Since I grabbed a 4th RB last round, I wanted to do the same with my WR before the few guys I liked were gone. I can't say I'm thrilled with this pick since Chambers was my top WR and he was gone even before my last pick and that Maclin is 3rd on the depth chart and hasn't been doing well with returns in the pre- season. However, I think he turns things around and has good upside with the Eagles as a possible 2nd/3rd WR and maybe some PR or KR. I can easily see him being dropped to the WW by week 4, so hopefully he does something early.

I thought about Mathis as the next best DL in round 15, but there wasn't enough separation between him and the next few guys. I queued up Mathis and Abraham for this pick along w/ a few other guys that were taken before my next pick. Abraham was the one guy that was left.
Abraham has had double-digit sack totals 6 of the last 8 years (all 6 years when he played at least 12 games). He's not a tackling machine by any stretch of the imagination, so he may throw up a few stinkers, but all in all he should be worthy of this spot.

I gambled on Gage's upside last year, and it didn't work out so well. He's somewhat of a home-run threat (19 YPC in '08), so that leads to inconsistency, and he isn't the most durable / healthy player in the league. Wasn't really sure where to go with this pick. I have been seeing alot of TEs drop off the board and I figured I better get one soon. I have always liked Scheffler in Denver with Cutler. Scheffler is a nice security blanket for Orton when he struggles getting the ball down field.

17.01 Brett Favre QB Minn

I needed to pick up a back up qb and I figured round 17 was a good place to get one. I think Favre in Minnesota could be a great pick up. Berrian and Harvin should get some single coverage on the outside opening up the field for big plays.

17.02 Julian Peterson LB DET
Peterson moves from SEA to DET this year, and he's going to be asked to do a little of everything for them - pass rush, tackle, pass coverage, etc., which will hopefully lead to him stuffing the stat sheet. He's made the pro bowl each of the past 3 years, and I imagine the DET defense will be on the field a majority of the time again this year.

Another starting WR for a so-so offense, but, he's young and has done a fair bit to impress his coaching staff so far. He should be in line to cover on punts as well, which is a bonus that should help keep his numbers relatively consistent, even when he doesn't see a ton of targets.

17.05 Ladell Betts, RB , WAS

I was looking for a backup RB at this point. Someone serviceable w/ potential. My RBs aren't exactly likely to bring home the RIFC title. There were a few serviceable backups available. I think Betts is one with decent potential even w/ Portis still in the lineup. He is making the case to be the 3rd down back and hopefully will get some carries at the goal line. I've picked up Betts before and dumped him w/o a start. We'll see if that happens again this year.

17.07 Clifton Smith, RB, TB

After being fed up watching guys I was hoping to snag get taken, I decided to take Smith before someone else noticed him, especially since the draft is a crap shoot at this point. Smith probably won't see very much playing time on offense, but he's both the KR and PR for Tampa. He only played 9 games but made the Pro Bowl as a returner and carried a very solid scoring average(#36 RB). He gives me someone I can plug in basically any week with the potential to score 10-15 points if he has some good returns. Compared to the rest of the RBs available who will only see a few carries here and there or get playing time if someone goes down, this guy is sweet.

I made this pick partly because I have Reggie. The other reason is because I have watched him play in the preseason. Bell has looked great so far. So good that I was surprised he made it this far without being drafted. I'm sure he will spend a lot of time on my bench. But you never know.

I took Carr here under the presumption that he will be handling return duties. When holding this role in the past, he's been amongst the league-leaders in return yards. Not a homer pick but a panic pick. Made this pick the morning after Roy Williams hurt his shoulder in a scrimmage. MRI revealed no damage for Roy but felt I needed to protect my super thin WR corps. 17.13 Kevin Faulk, RB, NE
A fair number of teams seem to be filling in RBs lately, and Faulk is one I’ve been targeting as a late round RB, so I think I’ll jump now. He never has a starting role, and the Pats RB corps is crowded for now, but he always seems to get his touches, and while I don’t envision starting him unless my other RBs have injuries, he always seems to produce something. I’m currently lacking depth at RB, so having someone who I can plug in seems quite useful at this point.

Clifton Smith was my other thought for the role, but he disappeared a few picks ago, so I think it’s time to move now.

17.14 Kevin Boss, TE, NYG

I'm the last one with a TE. Thought about holding out on Boss for one more round but didn't want someone to pick their 2nd or 3rd TE. Boss should see a few more balls thrown his way since NYG isn't exactly full of that many offensive weapons.

18.01 Justin Smith, DL, SFO

Also, thought about waiting another round for a DL guy. Smith was the best available and didn't really remotely like anyone after that. Probably should've passed on him as the DL shuffle seems like the way to go if you don't get Allen or one of the other top 3-4 DLs. Thought about taking Scott here. Luckily, he slipped to me next round.

It may be a tad early for a handcuff2, but with Marshawn Lynch suspended for 3 weeks and Fred Jackson nursing a sore wrist and thumb, it’s conceivable that I may need Rhodes as early as week #1. When it comes to RBs, I’ve always been a bit of a belt and suspenders guy, in any respect.

There are still some holes in my defensive starting lineup, but I wanted more receiver backups - mainly in case of injury. I think I've got enough depth to cover the bye weeks, but I don't want to be stuck with a waiver-wire-quality pickup in case I have some receivers missing some contests. While up there in age - heck, he's almost as old as me - Muhammad still has been getting a solid number of receptions as well as scores.

Not much else really appealed to me here, so I decided to select the immensely talented Vernon Davis as my back up TE. Why not. RB with perhaps some return duties and a heartbeat away from getting gobs of carries. This is the type of guy I like late in the RIFC drafts. People who are just one injury or misstep away from huge carries. I also do not think Jones will keep the KR duties. The injury risk is too high and Choice should be getting those touches at some point. Again, this is just a guess and represents no facts to date.

Unless you grab one of the top DBs, you can easily get one at any point in the draft or off waivers and they'll all perform about the same, so that's why I waited until now to grab one. I had to check a bunch of websites to make sure there were some news about Gamble. Needless to say I was a little shocked he had slipped this far. Scott plays for a bad team with one of the worst crew of RB's. If Benson finishes the season with 600+ yards I'd be shocked. 21.07 Arizona Cardinals, DEF

I wanted to grab another defense for bye weeks/unfavorable matchups. Arizona's schedule looked good for the Titan's bye and games against the Colts. They play in a relatively weak conference and scored well last season. Not expecting a lot, as long as they're good for the 3-5 weeks they might get used.

not many RB backups or 3rd man are left out there. With Willie Parker already banged up a bit and Rashard Mendenhall not impressing the coaches, Mewelde Moore may step in at some point this season. Until then he will most likely do goal-line work and return some kicks. not a bad outlook for a late 21st rounder.

I really hadn't been planning on getting another WR - as I already have two solid TE's and 4 WR's. But after the Colt's D went off the board, I opted to take a stab at the top-drafted WR in the real NFL draft. Word is he may be the Raiders' main option for WR, so as long as we're in the waiver-fodder portion of the draft, I'll take a guy who has lots of upside....

21.14 Jermichael Finley, TE, GNB

I can't say I know too much about Finley. He's supposedly going to be a part of the offense in Green bay. With a low end TE as my #1 TE I figured I needed to get one of the TE's that'll break out this year. More than likely, Him and/or Boss will be heading to the waiver wire by week 2 or 3.

22.01 Brian Witherspoon, DB, JAX

He's returning punts and kicks for the Jaguars. He had 13 tackles last year which hopefully he'll improve on this year. Figured he's worth the gamble this late especially if he starts getting more PT in the secondary.

Adding receiving depth with the #3 receiver for the Packers, who should be playable even as a #3. I probably don’t really need a 6th WR, but after a week or two, I may be able to figure out which ones to drop in favor of free agents... or even trade.

I usually draft my K in the 22-24 rounds. No particular reason why I decided to go round 22. I would have been happy with any number of other kickers just decided on Bironas because of his accuracy and he seems to get the longer field goals.

Well, I'd decided to get a kicker here before the last two rounds simply so I could have a choice of one of the top options. I decided on Bironas, but of course he went with the pick before mine. Akers is a solid kicker with a lot of scoring opportunities in Philly. I probably could have waited considering Crosby was picked in the last round.

some defense back insurance. I had him last year too and for the first few weeks he was in the top 5 at his position. too bad I may need him later than that this season to fill some bye week holes. until then I will have a good view at him and he is either still on my team or replaced by a player that looks more consistent than him.

At this stage of the draft, I was looking to land a CB. Another pick due to being lazy and relying on my queue... but... it was kinda necessary as I have a bunch of IDPs that have a week 4 bye. I was also considering Foote here, but the bye issue reared it's head again. I don't know much about Burnett, other than he's been projected to play the WILB in SD, and may be a 3 down player. Kickers are all about the same. I planned on waiting until the last round to grab one, but I figured I'd grab Elam while he was here while still grabbing someone I want next round. 23.10 Dwight Freeney, DL, IND
with 2 rounds to go I still need 2 positions to fill: DL and K. I already have 2 players that I want to take with my 24th pick that are not from these 2 positions, so it was a DL here, because a kicker is a kicker is a kicker. and a specific kicker is worth the same as a different kicker. there is no difference in talent, only in luck if the corresponding offense can't convert on 4th down and need the kicker. and we never know that offense before the game is played.
there are some DLs out there that may produce more then Freeney. the projections I saw list a lot of different DLs in the top 10. most of them see Freeney there. compared to others on those lists, he has no question marks too. so I picked him. he will much likely be replaced by the next hot DL during the regular season. Until then he is my starter.

I pretty much waited until the end to get my DL. As I see it there are only a handful of linemen worth an earlier pick and the rest are pretty much interchangeable. Folk should be fine. His bye is in week 6, which fits well with my other bye week needs. I’ll probably wait until then to decide whether to rent a kicker for that week, or to move elsewhere.

A deep threat for a great offense. Another guy that seems like he slipped because he isn't some guy that's going to double his numbers from last year. However, if he increases his production by 10% this year he's a bonified steal this late in the draft.

I have only 6 IDPs, and unfortunately, two have a bye in week 4. So I guess I should lay in one backup at this point, even though I may very well fiddle with my existing IDPs before the 4th week.

Foote is the starting MLB on Detroit, so he should get plenty of opportunities. And if I decide to hold him long term, his week 7 bye is a good fit with the rest of my roster.

I'm sure I didn't need another LB here, but I figured at this point it didn't hurt to try to get another breakout player. Having seen a couple of Hard Knocks episodes on HBO, I can see that he's one of these high energy guys who can find the ball - this should translate into big tackle numbers and turnovers. But, of course, he's a rookie and it may take a while for all this to develop.
