Also, we cannot delete an owner until he signs in (??) so Cards needs to sign in... weird system, eh?

I told jseth last ssn that if he helped Slizz with his team and it worked out he would get first dibs on a team if someone left.

CBS has a draft that apparently lets you change for traded draft picks. This would prevent having to enter draft picks, etc. but I don't think there is a time limit which is a big problem.

There have been a lot of changes with CBS but thus far I have been able to find everything I've looked for...eventually.

Minnesota Vikings are in.

Have we had an issue with people making picks in the past? Would the administrative work to use CBS be that much more than not using it? We could still have a clock and cumulative clock and have a commish or assistant commish "draft" for the manager who needed to be skipped? They could pick up a retired player or someone who is highly unlikely to be drafted.

I have the keepers set up for aug 21 with a draft day of aug 23. Thanks for all of the kind words I have gotten privately. It means a lot. I know I have to make a decision very very quickly. For now I am still setting up the league so we make sure it continues regardless if I am a part of it or not.

DS, I have addressed you in that other thread so I will not address that again, thanks for the kind words too. As far as the draft goes, I am still unsure if you can edit specific rounds of the draft on CBS and there is no time limit. You can edit it so it auto-drafts and continues which we don't want. I have to get deeper into it...Still working on the schedule. Once that is done, then it's as simple (albeit time-consuming) as entering it into the CBS schedule. Have to also go through every line and make sure it is right. Always find mistakes on it.

Hi guys,

I set up drafttime/kafenatid for us last year, although I cannot find it in my archived draft, it is mentioned in the 2011 thread.

It certainly is a faster program and runs itself. The main drawback is that the CBS site has to be kept up to date. When you draft a guy, you gotta pick him up. We could give some temporary commish controls to folks who are generally home or near a computer on a regular basis...

If I can have the order and the trades I can get it set up in drafttime and add keepers as they are posted.

Because of personal scheduling, I would prefer keepers to be set by midnight Monday August 20. I will need the extra time to get it right and give folks time to check it over to make sure the trades are correct.

Judy, we can make it at rollover on aug 20. making that change now. (That's midnightish on Aug 21).That's about 5 days from now so get your trade feelers out! Sure we could start the draft later, but remember that we run into Labor Day Weekend which is a huge problem for some so we need to keep the draft where it is at the latest. Typically we start the clock at Noon ET on that day.

I hope to have the schedule done by tonight. Still working on backdating the playoffs to reform the standings at end of regular season. You'd think I'd have learned by now to post the end of regular season standings. We do have seedings so that gives me a clue at least.

If they don't respond by Friday, they need to be replaced. I sent him an offer yesterday morning and he has not accepted it by signing in.

Can get a Keeper thread up but most don't post their Keepers until it gets closer to the date.

Ok, two teams left. Twarpy has stepped out of pretty much every league and everything associated with rotoguru. But he made it clear last ssn that he wanted to continue with this team when he was finally able to respond. Gshade also responded last ssn in the nick of time before we were about to have to fill that team. Obviously, we'd like them both to be back if at all possible.

Miles Austin, wr - keeper
Eric Decker, wr - keeper
Derrick Johnson, lb - discard
Santonio Holmes, wr - discard
San Diego DST - discard (probably not going to trade them since I'll need to draft a DEF and there is limited supply)

At the moment, I'm throwing away some decent talent and wouldn't mind a return on them. I'd be interested in packaging 2-3 for a position upgrade or just getting a draft pick for the guys I plan on dropping.

I preferably would need a QB in there. I also may be shopping my #5 pick for a good QB/WR/RB player. Make some offers. I can check in again Sunday night and all day Monday.

re: 83

I'd be on board for eliminating DST. Were you thinking for this year?

However, I know if I had a defense like the 49ers I would be pretty upset. How did the other league deal with this?

I'd propose a supplemental 2nd & 5th round in this year's draft that went in order of 2011 DST points. Teams with DSTs that finished in the Top 10 would get a supplemental 2nd round pick (in order of DST finish) at the begining of round 2. Teams with DSTs that finished 11-15 get a supplemental pick at the beginning of round 5 in order of DST finish.

Maybe that isn't the exact solution, but I think there needs to be some compensation to those teams.

Another question: Would we go from 9 keepers to 8? I hope not, I really like the franchise aspect of the league.

Not sure drafttime can handle that...

The position is just gone. Poof! Nobody loses since the season has not yet started!!

I do not see any problem since keepers have not been finalized. Keepers stay at 9. So you get to keep another player!! Who, with the scoring soaring (!) around the league, will most likely score more points/game than your defense for most of the teams.

The points for DST just don't work in the current version of the pass happy NFL. It would be "better" to add another flex IDP to the lineup. There are tons of them to choose from with some strategy involved with matchups and bye weeks.

Also, the rifc leagues look like they are not starting their draft until Monday August 27. We only have 11 rounds and if we do 2/3 per day, we are easily finished by labor day...

This would give us more time for keepers and for discussion of DST.

Thoughts?

There need be no hurry about the start of our draft. Friday the 24th, without a clock until Monday would probably be safer.

As for the "Nobody loses since the season has not yet started" theory, it's very weak because people have put prior investments in DSTs as a keeper. Some long term -- whoever owns Pittsburgh for example.

Judy -- whoever your best player is, let's enact a rule not letting him play this year! You lose nothing because the season hasn't even started!

i say all this as someone who has a lousy DST, and I don't think I've ever kept one.

You might propose it now for 2013. Some year a team's going to find itself surprised to find itself that all DSTs have been taken just before it planned to take one, be without a DST after the draft, and be not willing to play an extortionate price for one, and go all season invalid. I believe that has come at least somewhat close to happening at least once. Whatever the fallout from that is, it will be very unpleasant.

I believe you had a proposal last year to allow make the position DST or flex IDP. Something like that. I liked that one. I haven't looked up the point consequences.

And I have no problem with a team just playing without a D/ST for 1 or more weeks. The worst ones only average a couple points per week. It's no different than if someone didn't have a kicker (I think I may have done that before? Or at least came close...)

I hate that DST Is the only place where there are consistent negative scores... A player really has to screw up to get negative, but a DST just has to have a bad matchup.

Maybe we should consider rearranging the points so the high scores and high yardage don't go so negative...

Will propose for 2013 for sure...

If you really want to push dropping DST next year, we should be having the discussion now. The possibility of dropping DST could affect people's draft and in-season trades. I don't think we need to have a vote now, but the possibility should at least be in the back of manager's minds as the season unfolds.

Re: D/ST changes.

I wouldn't be adverse to easing up the yardage and points thresholds on D/ST scoring, as there certainly has been a lot more scoring in the NFL the past few years since these perameters were originally set.

Note however that while there may be less negative D/ST scores. the better D/STs are subsequently going to score higher point totals.

Judy was in charge of recruiting/offering new managers. Welcome TD. Commish msg is up. Keepers due by 11:59 ET on Monday. Draft clock will start on Thursday. Draft may be opened up before then un-timed. TD, I would spend some time in our rules in our league constitution. Pretty detailed. I need to go through that too to re-acquaint myself and look at trade deadlines and anything else that needs tweaked a couple days from last ssn. Would be a good idea for all of us to take a look at the rules.

New trade included Ravens 8.11 for Chargers 10.20 and is noted in rules.

Schedule has been completed. It is not uncommon to have mistakes in it. PLEASE check your schedule and compare it to the master schedule here. You may post in that thread to confirm or comment, etc. If there is an error please alert us in threads and EMAIL asap.

As for DST, it is pretty tough to dump such a key position in a keeper league. If we were to do something like that, I think gshade might be on the right track with a supplemental pick based on how good that D was/projected to be--which might be a nightmare.

We could look at adjusting things but the yards were something we added after the first couple seasons after a big push from the league. Here is current setup.

Special Scoring for Defense/STs Name Settings
BFB Blocked Field Goals (ID/ST/DST) 3 points
BP Blocked Punts (ID/ST/DST) 3 points
BXP Blocked Extra Points (ID/ST/DST) 2 points
DFR Defensive/ST Fumble Recovered (ID/DT/DST) 2 points
DTD Total Defensive and Special Teams TD 6 points
Int Interceptions 2 points
PA Points Against, Total Points Scored 0 - 0 PAs = 21 points
2 - 5 PA = 14 points
6 - 10 PA = 10 points
11 - 14 PA = 7 points
15 - 15 PA = 6 points
16 - 16 PA = 5 points
17 - 17 PA = 4 points
18 - 18 PA = 3 points
19 - 19 PA = 2 points
20 - 20 PA = 1 point
21 - 24 PA = 0 points
25 - 28 PA = -1 point
29 - 35 PA = -3 points
36 - 42 PA = -5 points
43 - 49 PA = -7 points
50 - 99 PA = -10 points
SACK Sack 1 point
STY Safety 3 points
YDS Yards Allowed 0 - 149 YDSs = 3.5 points
150 - 174 YDSs = 3 points
175 - 199 YDSs = 2.5 points
200 - 224 YDSs = 2 points
225 - 249 YDSs = 1.5 points
250 - 274 YDSs = 1 point
275 - 299 YDSs = .5 points
300 - 349 YDSs = 0 points
350 - 374 YDSs = -.5 points
375 - 399 YDSs = -1 point
400 - 424 YDSs = -1.5 points
425 - 449 YDSs = -2 points
450 - 474 YDSs = -2.5 points

In this league, if we were to tweak something, we could probably get it done right away. If it is minor w/o objections, we could imp it. If there were any objections, we'd have to vote with majority rules. If it's a major change, it would take a 2/3rds majority vote to change it. Any tweak to scoring would have to be done and approved before Keeper deadline. Something as big as removing a DST would likely take a year to go into effect as people trade during the ssn for players at times with thoughts of keepers.

Looking at DST scoring, I'd say we could up the yards a little--maybe by a half point and slide everything thing down 25 yards. Then perhaps dampen the points on scoring. Reason being is that scoring counts against us even if it is given up on offense. We had a vote before that it would only count for D only but that vote was defeated.

For those who love the DST position and their specific DST group, I would propose a flex position where you could use either your DST or a flex IDP...This would also save the silly trades to have a DST during the bye week although last year sometimes a BYE week was better than the negative score my group earned!

Judy I am sorry but I can't support ever changing keeper rules w/o a unanimous consent of all owners. According to post 103, the draft may be opened up on Wednesday and the draft clock will start running on Thursday.

If we weren't starting till next week there would be no sense in having the keeper deadline today. In the G20/24 league the draft starts -- or has started -- two days or so after the keeper deadline.

Again, once Labor Day Weekend hits, getting any kind of picks in is really tough. What's funny is that we've always been the last league to start our draft, so others starting later is surprising. Guess they got tired of getting done so fast then waiting a week for the first game. It iwll take us over a week to draft. If we start on the 27th that means we are drafting through Labor Day Weekend. If we were going to do that, our Keeprs would have been pushed back so we would have at least two days of setup and research time.

We still had two managers to not mark their keepers and they have been thrown back into the pool. So we can't really see who is available. We haven't had anyone check their schedule to make sure it is right as far as I know. I am swamped right now, but will try and make some time later today.

Judy, we had it in drafttime last ssn and we started clock on same Thursday and it ended on Thurs Sept 1 (This year's Aug 30). Remember there are 24 teams and it does not snake. Our drafts take longer.

Can we start later? Sure. Problem is this...we have 24 different managers and time out rates on Fri-Sun are higher.I'd rather get the first couple rounds out of the way before then where if they are skipped,it is not so costly. We used to start on Tuesday and wouldn't get done until Saturday afternoon of Labor Day. Drafttime has cut 2 days off the process of pure thread picks.

Thanks to GO for adding the keepers.

It is your job to check to see that the keepers are accurate on CBS. Post here ASAP if they are not. You have until noon Weds to get it right.

Drafttime should be ready Thursday. Once it opens, those of you who made trades need to check to see that they are accurate...

I believe that trades can be made during the draft, but you are taking chances that I will be home to process it before it is your turn -- no guarantees there.

Trying to fill in Judy on draft procedures...

Generally we have keepers due on Tuesday and draft on Thursday (clock starting) at Noon. This gives everyone all day wed to prep from the FAs and allows commish to set up the draft and change setting sin CBS to allow pickup of players, etc.

Reasoning: Starting at about Fri afternoon, people aren't able to draft as quickly. The wekeend is hit or miss. IF we don't have a clock then nothing gets done. If we start on Thursday, we can get through a round or two before the weekend. Then missing a pick isn't as big a deal as missing one early on. we still need to be done by Friday afternoon of labor Day Weekend and we finished a day early last ssn. Still, starting later really isn't an option because of the aforementioned reasons.

So when we are done, adds will be turned off until we set up waivers on Sunday or Monday so the people who are gone over Labor Day weekend have a fair chance for Waiver pickups. The first game is Wed instead of Thurs this ssn, so we may start waivers on Sun instead of Mon but they wouldn't run until at least early Monday morning. Still may make it to run Tues morning--need to reacquaint myself with the WW system.

So the plan is to get things set-up sometime tomorrow and then open the draft untimed. The clock would then turn on at Noon ET on Thursday. Remember there is a cumulative clock that drafttime tracks. Once you hit that time, you will be auto-skipped. You will still get your email saying it is your turn but you will need to go back in and put in your pick before the next person picks. If you have a queue, it will auto-pick and you will not be skipped in that instance.

I am not trading Bowe. I bet I've had a half dozen people inquire about him so let's just get that out of the way right now. I might consider trading a QB or another WR or someone else though. Need RB and other playmakers. Looking to move up in the draft even more or something else. Hit me up if you think you can improve my team--ok no jokes please--I know it's not in the greatest shape as is.

I don't think we have to sign back up if we were in there last year, it just re-registers returning members. Once Judy unlocks the draft (after entering keepers) we should all be able to access things.

Eagles keepers in CBS are correct. :-)

<147> gshade - its "Kafenatid" under the Other Football Pages pull down menu on this page. The new website is called:

Draftime Fantasy Draft Site

GO is correct, it retains the ID from previous drafts, and your ID was gshade in 2011 G24. It has the history of each draft you've participated in the past.

To reset your password you need your email ID on HERE to get in. You might check your "Spam" folder for the invite. That's where 3 Draftime emails of mine were. oops! (added it to my address book) lol

Good luck everyone!

IDP ALERT!!

When you get around to drafting your IDP's BEWARE!!

With teams using 4-3 or 3-4, the definitions for LB and DL are hazy at best.

Your guy will play at what CBS decides, which might not match what Drafttime has for your guy!

I THINK I figured out the problem. CBS makes us start and end the draft before you can pick up players. I have now done that. In the interim, Judy gave everyone commish privs. PLEASE don't mess iwth anything as CBS has changed so much--everything is much less intuitive--at least for me. I have to really search to find things now. The draft thing is much different. Hope I got it working. Need to make sure everything is set up right now so we don't find we have mistakes once waivers are turned on (have yet to find the waiver start or order but haven't really looked for it either).

OK, finally got off the commish stuff to make my own pick. The only pick I thought would be there at 10 was Pead. I was taking Fleener regardless though. Pead isn't a bad pick because I think SJax days are limited, but I like SJax a lot for this ssn--barring an injury. I think Fleener could have fallen quit a bit but I think he's a big sleeper and with Gonzo likely gone after this ssn, he will help my team in the long run too. I think Luck will be looking at Wayne and Fleener a LOT this ssn and has played with Fleener through college.

I still see a lot of guys I really like. If you don't have a guy that fits your team, I'd be willing to look at trading up to pick again. Hit me up. I actually have a little time today.

K. Winslow, TE, SEA is listed as a free agent in CBS. He shows on the keeper list CCRider on Rotoguru's keeper thread.

I've spent 20 min, trying to decide which TE to take and was about to draft Winslow when I checked to keeper thread. Winslow is on CCRiders keeper list, but not his roster.

PEOPLE - check your rosters, you've been asked repeatedly and I for one do not want to lose a pick because you failed to check or maintain your roster.

Guys (and Judy), I haven't been able to be online at all today until just now. I just became aware of the problem and am researching it. I want to make sure of everything that is happened before making a ruling. I will say that we have told everyone multiple times--BEGGED YOU--to please check your keepers in CBS with the keeper thread and with Drafttime(DT) as well as to check your schedule. It is SO easy to make mistakes with the dropdowns.

Before I make my picks, I check CBS then check drafttime. It's probably easier to do it the other way around, but I like to check for injuries,e tc before I pick.

194: that's what I do
189: I agree: we've been a slave to CBS int he past due to 24 teams and our scoring system, but we may want to look again to see if any other sites allows us to change. The commish controls this year are the worst ever. If you don't draft with CBS, you are screwed it seems.

Talking with Judy via email. She doens't have IM, so this could take a few mins...

I did want Winslow so I am interested in ya'lls decision.

I wasn't trying to queue a TE, I was OTC & researching for a pick and that's where Draftime is a pain only listing alphabetically.

I'm using CBS as a tool instead of filling another draft tracking software. I never thought about KWjr being a keeper when he was available on CBS & not a draft pick.

OK, here is the issue:
CCR listed Winslow in rotoguru-our official keeper list--but didn't save him on the CBS Keepers. FORTUNATELY for him, Judy used the Keeper thread to post keepers in DT instead of CBS and our official draft did not allow Winslow to be drafted. Therefore, CCR still owns Winslow and not Briggs. If Judy had listed Briggs in DT, he would have been fair game at this point. So the draft stands as is and we will swap out Briggs for Winslow in CBS.

Please pick up your players from CBS. I'm trying to compile a queue for when I'm out later today and it really is time consuming going through a bunch of names of players who have already been picked.

Finally find a suitable player with no bye week conflicts only to go to DT and fnd he's already been picked. Very frustrating.

Thanks. I don't have a lot of time to do this and don't want to hold up the draft by timing out.

Another reason to consider revision of the dst category bmd!!

It's not even good strategy to hoard them either:

-you never get good value back on them in a trade to justify taking early on.
-you really can't even play matchups because they're almost always worse than the one currently owned.
-they take up an extra roster spot to where someone else can actually help.
-greater possibility of negative points...
-etc. I'm just rambling on the droid...

There are going to be some angry managers if drafted players were not added to your teams and you lose them. I just don't have time to try and take care of my team and several others as well. Even when I had more time, I spend so much time as a commish that it takes away for planning for my team. We are trying to help you guys out, but IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to make sure everything is right with your team and you are fully versed in our rules. If after reading the rules, you have any questions--please ask now.

Drafting-wise--we have been a little slow, but we still have plenty of time. We will not be shortening the per pick clock--even if it extends into Labor Day weekend. I still think we will be done by Thursday. We are almost through 7 rounds in 5+ days of drafting. We have 4 more rounds to go.

re Doug 194 - the problem with this is still that when I search a player it takes me to a different page to see if he's a free agent etc.

So if I am searching free agents, I type that up there to see if he's available... I have to click on the name to find out. Then if I want to go back to searching I can hit back - but have set all my search parameters over again.

In ESPN for example - I start typing a name in and names pop up with a team name or free agent icon right next to them. I don't have to go anywhere.

I don't have any type of cheat sheet, I simply use the CBS free agent pool for my G24 draft. Maybe that's why I do terrible!

cBS also blows my mind that I can't set a future lineup. What if I were on vacation? and I need to set next weeks lineup in advance? That's just ridiculous and a basic function of all other platforms.

LOL, I give up. Even trying to draft a K, there are still Ks at CBS who are FA but not available because they have already been drafted. Maybe I'll go ahead and wait until the end of the draft to take a K afterall. It pisses me off that I try and plan my draft around the availability and who still has needs at certain positions and come to find out that so many of those players aren't even available. I don't even have the time to try and find out who these players belong to and pick them up as I waste so much of the little time I have researching players who aren't even available.

Let's kill this thing off today & not let it get into the Labor Day weekend at all by making Friday a draft free day to celebrate!

Half the last 14 picks are Auto although Doug's got a 179 min hold on 11.23. How's that different that turning off "Pickers"? - other than 1 min?

Judy - Received a "new" modem from Verizon and at least I can direct connect to it and use my laptop. No Wi-Fi yet. I'm not holding for 2 hrs to find out why today & lose access again thru the effort. ha-ha...

I just saw that CBS changed the position of Robert Mathis from DL to LB. at the time I drafted him he was a DL. today he is a LB. I drafted him that early because I was under the impression that he will be eligible at DL this season despite playing LB most of the time.

what is the ruling on this? I don't want to get screwed because CBS changed a position this late in the pre-season.

253 YR: that is horrible. They should leave him or make him dual-eligible. Unfortunately we are powerless to change this. A few years ago they changed a WR to a TE on us late and there was uproar and their retort was that they were going to have their players reflect their true NFL positions regardless of when it was. If I could make him a DL for our league only, I would, but CBS just does not give us that ability.

Big thanks to Judy & Ref for assembling the league and getting it done in record time (IMO) Thanks to those who helped move this along. That's why this is the best football league here!

I always liked doing draft recaps and adding thoughts to the draft. Its one of the things about the G24 league I enjoyed doing. So this year, I did a "running diary" of my picks...and what I liked/didn't like:

Draft analysis:

Pick 1.17 - Jonathan Baldwin, WR, KC: I planned to go WR all along here. I always try and get one guy I can identify as a potential keeper regardless of position for the 2013 season. So I will rank the players from 1-17 of who I see as the most valuable and viable keeper. Here is a snapshot of what my board looked like:

1) Andrew Luck
2) Robert Griffin III
3) Trent Richardson
4) Doug Martin
5) Alshon Jeffrey
6) Jonathan Baldwin
7) Patrick Peterson
8) Justin Blackmon
9) Kendall Wright
10) Brian Quick

I stopped at #10 as I knew no matter what, I would be able to land Brian Quick with the 17th pick of the draft. If you know me, you know I am a huge Chicago Bear fan, so some bias goes with ranking Alshon Jeffrey that high. That said, all reports on him have been positive. Profootballtalk has recognized how dominant of a camp he has had. The question about his ability to gain separation from cornerbacks was a non-issue. Peter King has gone out of his way to praise him in his MMQB column about how dominant of a pro he looks. So, when youngroman passed on Jeffrey, I thought he was going to be mine at 1.17! I’m thinking I will get a guy who will see single coverage across from Brandon Marshall and would be poised for a huge season now that he is 2 years removed from that knee injury. Needless to say, TD took him right in front of me and all I could do was laugh. So that led me to my next highest ranked player in Jonathan Baldwin. I won’t do all the analysis on him like I did on Alshon…but I’ll let Bleacher Report speak for me instead:

Jonathan Baldwin - 5 Reasons

That, combined with all the positive press he has received this training camp led me to rank him that high. Did I overvalue him? Maybe…but I think he offers up a guy with great keeper potential and someone who can help the Buffalo Bills now.

Pick 2.17 - Vick Ballard, RB, IND: I would categorize this as the “reach” of the draft to this point. My goal was to get a RB who could help me with points while I await Rashard Mendenhall and Jahvid Best’s return. My board came down to two players:

1) Vick Ballard
2) Bilal Powell

Vick Ballard was definitely more of a home-run type pick over a guy like Powell …to quote Peter King: “Vick Ballard, running back. The fifth-rounder from Mississippi State had played so well in training camp that he's gone from a player who would have had to make his major rookie mark on special teams to a contender for a big role in the running game. The new regime didn't draft Donald Brown, and thus isn't married to him, and the best runner will play the most…

And Michael Lombardi on Ballard: “The guy to watch is Vick Ballard. He really runs hard. Can come in & give them some power.” "Prototypical NFL runner in terms of breaking tackles, yards after contact," "He's a sleeper. I'm not a fantasy guy, but I would play him."

I felt Ballard offered up more upside than Powell who will be no more than a 3rd down back (albeit Powell will have consistent playing time). I figured that new regime will likely want “their” guys in there and my hope was that Ballard grows into that type of back with Andrew Luck.

Pick 3.17 - Trent Cole, DL, PHI: This is not a bad pick by any stretch, but if I had to do it over again, I would’ve taken Mark Barron, DB, TB instead. I was interviewing a victim at the time and had multiple emails about being on the clock. I knew I wasn’t going offense, so this pick came down to IDP (DL, DB) or DST (St. Louis, Minnesota, Tennessee). I didn’t feel picking a defense would be a good strategy this early on, so I opted to go with an IDP. So I just Googled “IDP Rankings” and found this website:

http://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/rankings/idp-cheatsheets.php

It had Trent Cole as the the #8 defender, so I just told Ref via Gmail Chat to pick him up for me.

Pick 4.17 - St. Louis Rams, DEF: To get the defense I had ranked #1 on my board in the 4th round justified not taking a defense in the third. You’re probably thinking: Why the hell would he rank perennial cellar-dweller St. Louis as his #1 defense?

The reason – I see talent on this squad and it has a relatively soft schedule.

-St. Louis has a new head coach who has proven to preside over solid defenses
-The Rams will feature 3 All-Pro caliber starters on the defense in Chris Long, Cortland Finnegan, and James Laurinaitis.
-Robert Quinn playing opposite Chris Long - he should be vastly improved in his second season and potentially have a pro-bowl season facing one offensive tackle a la Cliff Avril.
-Janoris Jenkins: Top five talent with baggage. If he can keep his head clean, they will have 5 pro-bowl caliber players on that defense.
-They drafted a defensive tackle (Michael Brockers) in the 1st round, who should help improve their run defense. If free-agent signee Kendall Langford can stay healthy and productive, they will feature 8 solid starters on that defense with Quintin Mikkel rounding out that group.

Pick 5.17 - Rolando McClain, LB, OAK: At this point, I just was filling out depth on the roster. I didn’t need any offensive players and McClain is a middle linebacker who should be productive and a “must own” in this league. While he might not be keeper quality, he offers depth on my roster and the coveted starting MLB spot. To be honest, I didn’t do much research on this pick an just saw him out there…

Pick 6.17 - Javier Arenas, CB, KC: He is the primary KR/PR for Kansas City and starting slot CB. He was on the field for plenty of snaps last season, figures to be on the field for plenty of snaps this season, and is excellent on special teams. He consistently delivers 8-10ppg and is a valuable fantasy IDP starter.

Pick 7.17 - Akeem Dent, LB, ATL: Dent was trapped behind Curtis Lofton last season, but he was the Falcons’ top special teams player. The 2011 third-round pick recorded 19 special-teams tack¬les and 16 Return Stops1, tying Heath Farwell of the Seahawks for the league lead. Special teams coach Keith Armstrong often singled Dent out as the hardest worker on his units. With nobody in front of him now that Tatupu is all but done as a NFL player, I’ll sit back and hope he develops.

Pick 8.17 - Blair Walsh, K, MIN: Kickers are so hard to predict. You could take the conservative route and get a guy like Gostkowski and get plenty of scoring opportunities or PAT’s, or take a guy like Walsh who will likely be in line for just as much FG attempts, but way way way less PAT’s. The pro’s: He’s kicking in a dome/perfect weather 10x minimum this year, and has that coveted week 11 bye. Hopefully he is solid from a fantasy perspective!

Pick 9.17 - Chandler Jones, DL, NE: This was someone I planned on taking in the fifth round, but felt it wasn’t necessary due to the fact I owned Trent Cole. He’s also another reason I wish I went Mark Barron in the third round instead of Trent Cole. The press on Jones is positive in all media outlets. Jones could immediately step into the "Elephant" role previously held by very productive fantasy players like Willie McGinest and Andre Carter.

Pick 10.17 - Braylon Edwards, WR, SEA: This is more of a hedge on Sidney Rice. Braylon Edwards has looked great all preseason for Seattle, is still only 29, and if/when Sidney Rice goes down, he will immediately ascend to the top of the depth chart.

Pick 11.17 - Zach Brown, LB, TEN: Brown was once a 1st round prospect. However questions surrounding his work ethic and attitude combined with a mediocre 2011 season caused him to sleep into the middle of the 2nd round. As of now, he is penciled ahead of Witherspoon. This pick is totally based on upside potential combined with a late bye.

Ironically, the worst pick in my draft is most likely Vick Ballard. The rest of the class should all amount to some type of value

Which picks did I like the best?

1.02 – Andrew Luck, QB, IND: To give up only Chris Johnson and the rights to Derrick Johnson in exchange for what could be the best QB of the next decade is about as shrewd as it gets.

1.10 – Coby Fleener, TE, IND: I tried my damnest to get Buffalo DST from Ref throwing package after package towards him that would have included Greg Olsen, Von Miller, Player & Picks, etc…Ref kept saying no, and I couldn’t fathom why given his keepers (or lack thereof). When he picked Fleener at 10, I then understood and felt better. Shrewd Ref now has locked up another franchise TE for the next decade or so…lol

1.13 – Patrick Peterson, DB, ARI: Shade gets what is the #1 free agent IDP in the draft…

1.14 - Russell Wilson, QB, SEA: YR is one of the savvier owners in G24...he proved it again by rightly taking a gamble on the starting Seattle QB. If Russell Wilson was 2 inches taller, he would've been in competition with Andrew Luck for the top pick. Love the guy and think he will break the mold and at least become an above average NFL starter.

1.16 – Alshon Jeffrey, WR, CHI: See Above

1.22 – Robert Turbin, RB, SEA: Just like the guy, totally versatile, and has top end speed. Reminds me a lot of Ben Tate

2.02 – Stephen Hill, WR, NYJ: For a team in need of talent, CT did quite well. He came out with RGIII and a potentially great WR. Stephen Hill is the man. His Playmaker score of 660 is better than that of any player drafted from 2005 through 2009. The prior leader was fellow Yellow Jacket Calvin John-son with 651. (Georgia Tech’s Demaryius Thomas, by the way, had a Playmaker Score of 520 when he was drafted in 2010. His receiving numbers were Barden-ian, but he ran a mediocre 4.5-sec 40 at the Combine, and did not attempt a vertical jump.) Still, Johnson was a big-play threat for a run-heavy Georgia Tech team who shined at the Combine (just like Hill), and now he’s one of the best wideouts in the league. That’s not saying he’ll be CJ, but he has the physical makeup of Calvin Johnson…just stash him on the roster and hope he blooms. He was a luxury I couldn’t afford as I can’t envision my squad holding him over to the following year. So far A+ for CT through the first two rounds.

2.10 – Brian Quick, WR, STL: Shrewd Ref is at it again getting a guy I had valued in the first who offers similar type potential to Hill. His closest comparison coming out of college is Terrell Owens…not bad company! While I don’t expect big things out of Quick this season, there is NOBODY blocking him on STL’s depth chart and he should develop into a 1,000 yard WR.

3.10 – Bilal Powell, RB, NYJ: The Buffalo Bills brass are big fans of the Colts draft. Ref got a guy I was targeting one round earlier in consecutive rounds. Powell is a sure double in the gap as far as RB’s go. He won’t get the HR stats, but he will get you solid production each week. I could even give a high mark for Ref’s pick of David in the next round.

3.13 – Ladarius Webb, DB, BAL*: If he returns punts instead of Jacoby Jones…excellent pick

3.23 – Doug Baldwin, WR, SEA: This is the guy who led Seattle receivers in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. He was the first player since the AFL-NFL merger to lead his team in receiving yards as an undrafted rookie. One should expect his numbers to be even better with more talent around him and an extra year of experience.

4.01 – Mark Barron, DB, TB: Judy hits a HR here…great pick and a guy who could be a keeper for years to come.

4.08 – Josh Gordon, WR, CLE: Big play potential WR…I can see him passing Greg Little in Cleveland for that #1 spot as Little is nothing more than Mushin Muhammad.

5.01 – Alfred Morris, RB, WSH: At this point in the draft you want guys who can offer weekly points and Judy might have gotten a steal given Mike Shanahan’s merry-go-round at RB.

6.11 – Pat Angerer, LB, IND: Yea he’s injured…but by all accounts he should be a top tackler in the Colt’s 3-4 scheme once he starts

11.24 – Ryan Mallett, QB, NE: Low risk pick for a guy who could be a potential keeper a la Matt Schaub. If he ends up getting traded…steal for Pete. If not, he just lost an 11th round pick. Wish I thought of that!

Sure there are other good picks like potential TD Vulture LeRon McClain, but after the 4th or 5th round its just getting guys you hope can produce…good luck to all!!!!

The least??

After the first two rounds, its almost impossible to dislike any pick because you're looking for depth. Only two picks really stand out to me as bad:

1.07 - Isaiah Pead, RB, STL: To take a backup running back who is nothing more than a complimentary player was rather head scratching. I hope for Promize's sake he does well...but I don't think this is a guy you want to take with a top 10 pick who will be one of your 9 mainstays. Also, add insult to the pick is that Pead isn't even the primary backup...it looks like rookie Daryl Richardson has that role.

1.12 - Ronnie Hillman, RB, DEN: Same as above. Hillman isn't a bad fantasy player...but he's not the type of guy who should be going in the "lottery". Complimentary players who are 3rd down specialists should be drafted 2nd round and on in this league. First round should be starters/keepers/vets you can milk for one last good season (i.e. Anquan Boldin-type players). I haven't even touched on the point that you needed a QB...and you passed on Russell Wilson for this guy!!!! Then for the next three rounds you spent picks on backup QB's when you could've locked up Wilson (which would've ended up being the right pick) and could have filled it with depth at that position like Bilal Powell, Alfred Morris, etc...all of which should be better than Hillman. If you could, please provide your reasoning...

::Scratching head...not necessarily disagreeing:: 1.23 - Lamar Miller, RB, MIA: Doug is one owner I totally respect. Every year he is competitive and always fields tough squads. I'm just curious to see why you took Miller...

I'm sure there were some "wow's" when London Fletcher went in the first, but I understand why. The guy is NEVER injured and is always among the league leaders in tackles. It was more of an indication that he's planning on a championship and must be comfortable with his 9.

When I picked at 1.11, Russell Wilson had not been named the starter yet, and was fixin' to start the next game to find out for sure. He did fantastic in that game, and was namef the starter. He could have done crappy, and gone back to the bench, and that still may happen. He has been a winner, though.

As i said in post 171, I was also surprised Pead went in the top 10. Maybe Slizz and I will be proven wrong, but I just read today that fellow rookie Daryl Richardson has the inside track on backing up SJAx, not Pead. Who knows?

261: I am shocked they paid Flynn all that money and then drafted Wilson. I wonder if that injury to Flynn hurt his chances, but he looked great last night. Last year, all I read was how great Flynn was and how he was another Aaron Rodgers and would be a stud for years to come when he left. Again, we shall see. I like RWilson, but still surprised at the turn of events. No...shocked.

Nothing like having one of your keepers cut -- Hightower, but I suspect he might catch on somewhere else, but not be particularly useful there. Good, actually great, thing I drafted Morris...

My draft...

I didn't have all the Keeper-quality guys that I should have. I had to keep some guys that I'd rather not have--but it is what it is. Had several trades to choose from and one that I spent a lot of time on that would have given me a starting RB and am now glad I didn't.

My goal was to do a mini-rebuild. One that should get some points now but more importantly to build up my Keepers.

1.10 10 Fleener, Coby TE IND
Need a TE to replace Gonzo and also serves as an extra flex guy this ssn if need be. This was the guy I was targeting from the get-go. I knew he'd go in the first, but didn't know exactly when. When Pead went at 7, I was pretty sure, Fleener would make it to me.

2.10 34 Quick, Brian WR STL
I was very surprised Quick was still there. I was thinking maybe Hillman would be there but he went at 1.12. I thought Quick was the best player available to fit my needs. He's the best WR on StL and going to get a lot of reps. Everyone loves his ability and his wingspan. He's on a bad team but has a nice QB. With SJax running more this ssn, hopefully that opens up the play action. This is a perfect pick for my overall strategy. Let's hope it works out.

3.10 58 Powell, Bilal RB NYJ
How in the world was this guy still available? I thought there was no way he'd make it back to me. I had to go RB here after I passed on one at 2.10 for Quick. I knew there was a chance he'd still be there but this league loves their backups and tend to draft them very high. Heck I had to keep one as did others. Anyhow, Powell is the 3rd down back and is set to take over as starter next ssn when Greene reportedly leaves. Prob not many points this ssn, but you never know.

4.10 82 David, Lavonte LB TAM
I was praying this guy would make it to me. Everything I read is great about this guy--well except that he's a rookie. Never know what a rookie will bring. He should end up in the middle and has a great history. Keeper-quality IDP in case Harrison doesn't return to form. I may have multiple IDP Keepers for next ssn--we shall see.

5.10 106 McCourty, Jason DB TEN
The last two picks were IDPs who were very low on CBS projected points. I was pretty sure I'd get him. I might have been able to wait--but who knows what other managers might do when it comes to IDPs. Tenn paid him and he did well when he was in there and will get his chance to shine. IDPs are sometimes a crapshoot, but at least I feel I got a really nice one--but nice doesn't always get you points. This one tends to do both.

7.10 154 Williams, Mario DL BUF
I Hate DLs. I usually take them toward the end and shuffle through the FA list for the hot hand. They are usually famine--though I happened to see this guy still there and thought he might have a few "feast" games. I was surprised he was still left based on other DLs who had gone. After not picking since the 5th round, I wanted to have an impact pick. My thinking was Williams avg over another DE should be higher than a LB/DB would score over a guy I'd miss by waiting another round. Could be a great pick.

8.10 178 Wagner, Bobby LB SEA
Another Rookie who has the MLB locked up. This could be an absolute steal. Really happy to get him here.

8.14 182 Goldson, Dashon DB S
We don't need no stinking Kicker! Justin Tucker was in my crosshairs, but I saw 9 kickers left that I liked and only 3 other teams needed their first K. Come to find out that some of those 9 Ks were actually already drafted--just not picked up in CBS. This really messed up my strategy. I can't believe people pick up Ks so early, but heck there were guys taking a 2nd K even. If I had known so many Ks weren't actually available I might have gone K here. I really like this pick, but the way guys were drafting, he might have been there for me next round. I had a list of 4 DBs here that I really liked and two of them didn't even get drafted. So waiting would have been fine. Really ticked about this. Let's hope this pick helps me forget quickly.

9.10 202 Zuerlein, Greg K STL
Looks like a really nice K but he's a rookie on a bad team. I think StL could be better this ssn though. This guy won the job quickly with a really strong leg and uncanny accuracy at a small college. Who knows? I liked the upside better than the established Ks even on better teams.

10.10 226 Logan, Stefan RB DET
Desperation pick here. Needed a RB and he was said to have had the best camp of anyone on the Lions. He's hurt but is a top return man. Figured if my other RBs weren't getting points at least this guy would get me soemthing. Hate that KO returns have almost gone away though.

11.10 250 Jenkins, Janoris DB STL
This could be another great pick. First round ability, but troubled past. Read he's been one of the best defenders in Rams camp and has already won a job. Figured that teams would throw at him because he's a rook and Finnigan was on the other side. Doesn't need to be great to score well in fantasy--but he could prove to be a great value as well. If not--it didn't cost me much.

Other draft picks who caught me by surprise was shade's pick of Peterson in the first round. If he's returning kicks and punts, he could have HUGE numbers because he's a nice corner as well. I thought RWilson went too high as a backup--but what did I know? I was surprised at how many backup QBs coyotes drafted. There were many more nice picks and surprises, but all in all, I thought it was a very good draft by many. THANKS!

because 2 of you mentioned my Russell Wilson pick, here is a short view from my perspective:
at the time of my Russell Wilson pick at 1.14 it was pretty clear to me that he will be the starter. It was not the plan to pick him or any other QB there, but Seattle media already named him the starter and most of the time if that many independent news sources are reporting the same the information is true. a few hours after my pick he was officially named the starter, so my small gamble paid off. It now needs to be seen how well he develops. there are high expectations and I don't know if he can fulfill them in his 1st season.

Re: Pead - Not everyone has to have the same valuations as me. Maybe you and Promize saw something I didn't in Pead. I see nothing more than a third string, third down running back...on Stl!

That said, I would make the deal for Kendall Wright any day of the week in exchange for Pead. The NFL is a pass-first league and with teams devaluing the running back position so much, a guy like Wright has way more long-term value in this league than a guy like Pead. I don't believe in the guy and if he proves me wrong, i'll be the first to eat crow that will deservedly be thrown at me. Pead was the slowest back taken in the entire first three rounds, and at 5'10 194 that's not a good thing.

Speaking of speed...looking back and analyzing the runningbacks, Doug came out with the two fastest backs in the entire draft:

Bernard Pierce and Lamar Miller. Not to mention those two guys are bangers who can run in between the tackles. I don't know how they will develop, but my guess is Baltimore struck gold with Pierce...add him to the "picks I like".

RE: Wilson - "Buy the rumor. Sell the news." We all saw how outstanding Wilson has looked in the preseason and through two games Wilson was arguably the most impressive rookie. With two games under his belt by the time the G24 draft started, all signs were pointing to him becoming Seattle's starter. As YR said, he went with his gut and pulled the trigger with a small gamble.

That said, its only the preseason. I remember years back preseason star Rob Johnson parlayed a stellar preseason into a big contract from the Buffalo Bills that he did not live up to. Not saying he'll be as bad as Rob Johnson, but I think Wilson will end up being a solid pro.

268: Who knows. The Colts are hoping both TEs do well, but you don't even have to be the best to score the most points. With Fleener the starting TE (with some two TE sets thrown in) and the Stanford connection with Luck, I think he will score some points. The Colts love them some TE and with a young QB, they could be some nice outlets. The Colts line is suspect and the checkdowns could come frequently.

Interesting how people see Pead so differently. Chris Wesseling of Rotoworld recently moved him up to #5 on his dynasty rookie list after studying films of his senior year, calling him an explosive talent invoking comparisons to Jamall Charles and Chris Johnson. Not to say he's right and anybody else is wrong, but somehow people look at this guy and see opposite things.

If we all had the same opinions, this game wouldn't be much fun. I love the varying opinions. The only time it bothers me is when people cast aspersions on trades w/o doing any research whatsoever.

Commish Ruling: Apparently this ssn CBS will allow commishs to edit roster positions. Not sure if this is a week by week thing or not, but YR drafted Mathis as a DL--as he was listed in CBS--then CBS changed his position after he had drafted. Therefore, I have changed Mathis' position to DL. YR might have to keep on me weekly if it reverts. It appears that if I don't hit cancel above his positions (commish can only see this) then it will stay, but who knows.

I found Waiver order (FINALLY!) and am in the process of editing it now.

Waiver order is updated. I can't tell you where to go to check the current order. It used to be on the add/drop page. I used post 55 Round 2 base order to set WW order. It gives me an error msg if I would put the same team twice so unless I flipped teams, it is probably right. My mouse is suddenly double clicking all the time so I could easily mess these dropdowns up. Please check it as once the waivers run, we might not be able to do much for you if it is wrong.

bmd - id hold. Locker is a good qb. You made the right choice getting him at 13.

If I didn't have one, I would've inquired. Stand pat, you'll get an offer once someone goes down with an injury. Maybe it will be me :). Just take it easy if that is the case!!!

As I've said in earlier posts, you almost never get your value back in trading a qb if you already have one...just too hard to get owners to give up significant value for them.

281: It's tough because now everyone has drafted. I paid to get Schaub. QBs will go down and Locker will be needed. Problem is that with 24 teams, some managers want way more than they are worth. I've had deals where I felt like I was overpaying and that manager still wanted more and later on I was so thankful I didn't pull the trigger. Sometimes you have to take less just to make it worth it for your team. Sometimes you are willing to overpay for the same reason. This league has some very astute managers but in the end it's still about supply and demand within the framework of very few roster spots.

Two things:

One: CBS changed it's setup that would allow you to go up to 24
players because of the way we had WR RB and TE setup. I fixed this by
changing that to a Offensive Flex spot. Our rules haven't changed, but
now you will need to list your other two offensive players as flex
positions. If you fail to make this change, it will give you 0 points
on the week. First game is tonight so get that fixed right away if you
have anyone playing tonight. Email myself judy and GO for assistance.
I didn't realize this had been changed until I saw DS was able to pick
up 5 players today. In the past it would have stopped him at 20, but
it overrode our roster max. DS please cut those extra players
immediately.

Two: Coyotes informs me that he still isn't able to pick up FAs. I
have a trouble ticket into CBS. You should be able to pick them up
after waivers have run. I can't verify this as I can pick them up with
commish privs. However, typically there is more activity than what
we've seen to this point. Will let everyone know when that is fixed.

When Slizz could add and coyotes couldn't, I suddenly remembered that
we restricted non playoff Adds again last ssn. CBS has moved this so
it is not in the same spot with the rest of the team permissions. I
went through the help boxes and found it and unchecked those boxes and
now we are all set. Pick up FAs at will. It was not a CBS issue but a
commish issue and I apologize. There are so many settings to go
through and they are all over the place. Not intuitive, but it is
fixed nonetheless.

293: It is fixed.
295: Your Welcome. What a time suck! Wish I had found that before.
291: I don't think this applies to our league because we have a waivers process. I think this is CBS' answer to those sites that allow FA pickups at any time and have a race to the computer during games. However, if waivers run next week and you can't pick up a FA before 9AM ET--it means this would apply to us as well. Again, I don't see that happening.

I also emailed DS privately telling him that if he is unable to drop those extra players rather quickly, I am going to remove his last TEs added based on the order listed in CBS. Not only is there a game today, but news could happen on one of them that could change things. Fortunately, none of the TEs he picked up play today.

Chris Cooley admitted last season that not even he, as a Redskins player, had a solid grasp on which running back would be starting on a week-by-week basis.
Cooley recalled an experience early last November, when the Redskins were about to play the 49ers. "I walked up to (Ryan) Torain in the locker room and said, ‘Dude, you’re starting on my fantasy team this week. And I’m hoping for a big week. I’m playing my wife," Cooley said. "And he’s like, ‘Oh, cool man. Yeah, I’ll see what I can do." Roy Helu started and totaled 141 yards on 24 touches. "I’m in the locker room and I don’t know who’s starting," Cooley said. "So, it’s kind of a mixup and I’m not exactly sure what we’re doing or who’s going in."

Per Peter King: "I think if I had to guess who starts opening day for the Redskins at running back, I'm looking at Mike Shanahan's Olandis Gary-ian history, and I see him playing sixth-round rookie Alfred Morris for nearly the entire first half of the third preseason game, and I see Morris rush for 7.6 yards a carry in the game, and I say: I'd probably go with Morris."

This Sanchez guy don't look half bad. I may have a backup QB on the trading block myself after Luck's bye.

I most likely cost myself a win and will split this week by going with Akeem Dent over McClain at LB.

Brandon Weeden looks like the worst qb, ever. He looks beyond God awful. As a bears fan who had to watch Caleb Haine muck up a playoff spot, I pity your fanbase. Seriously, if they put Colt McCoy in for the 4th quarter, the browns would have won. McCoy isn't great but he's not Brandon Weeden awful.

I was flat out wrong about Jonathan Baldwin...not a single look.

Stephen Hill looks to.be a contributor early on for the jets...something I didn't expect this year.

It's week 1 so I'm not gonna get too high or low on players until they establish a trend...

...also how about Brandon Marshall?!?!?!

If week 1 is any indication, I think he could conceivably challenge the single greatest season by a wide receiver. For those who watched the game, Cutler throws it to him regardless of the coverage. Triple coverage? No problem. Brandon here you go.

Marshall won't be facing the Colts every game. Colts D looked great early, but their lines are so bad it isn't even funny. Easy to get open when they didn't put pressure on the QB after the first qtr it seemed.

Ref - totally understandable but Marshall had 19 targets per Mike and Mike. On targets alone he will easily lead the league. And if he is getting at least 9rec/week, he will make his owner very happy

Looking back and reflecting on my draft, outside of coyotes, I had the worst combo of picks through the first three rounds:

1) Baldwin didn't get any targets...if he ends up being the 4th or 5th option behind Bowe, Charles, McCluster, Moeaki...I'm in trouble. Damn you for taking Alshon!!!

2) Ballard...should've went Pierce or Powell, who is the most physically gifted and talented of the backs. I got suckered by positive press and reached. Maybe long term this pans out, but I need a bird in hand while I await the returns of Mendenhall and Best.

3) Trent Cole - I planned on taking Chandler Jones all along as my de, just got pressured by time. Not that Cole is a bad pick, just could've used help elsewhere knowing I could've got Jones later (planned to take him in the 5th or 6th pre draft.)

Thank you for contacting us.

We are aware that tonight's waiver run has not processed correctly, allowing teams to prematurely claim potential free agents by add/drop prior to the waivers processing. Currently, our programmers are working to correct this issue. We appreciate your patience while this matter is being resolved.

Waivers Didn't Run
From: CBSSports.com Fantasy Support Team

We apologize for the inconveniences caused by the failure of our waiver process to engage. In order to correct this issue, we have restored the rosters and reset the waiver process to run tonight (roughly 2am ET Thursday) permitting owners in your league to resubmit their waiver claims properly.

I forgot I need to go through and check on -rushing yards that only CBS doesn't properly process themselves.

no problem with waivers running tomorrow. I did not plan to claim someone, but changed my mind and put in 1 claim a minute ago. reading the message from CBS it sounds that existing claims were not restored, so all of you better verify that your claims are still there.

I am not sure but I think MFL does allow our league settings too. what is most unique about G24? 24 teams? 6 divisions with 4 teams? D + IDP? all this is seems to be possible in MFL.

If a guy was dropped on Saturday and therefore isn't going to process, clear waivers and become a free agent again before Sunday at 1 PM (he wouldn't) -- then he gets thrown in the pool with all other locked free agents who are processed Wednesday morning.

Otherwise if it were a normal 2 days - he'd unlock when - on Monday morning? and that doesn't work. Can't have people unlocking mid-week when everyone is supposed to be locked up.

Ok here is my rationale:

Ref asked me to post it:

Slizz's current RB are started in 0,0,1,1% of the time. He needs an RB. I have Morris, r bush and the newly crowned a brown (NYG). I do not have a need for another RB. CJ has been underperforming, but who knows what will develop? I do not think he has fallen off a cliff, but I know that I do not need him now and I hope that statement has not jinxed all my RB!

He offered Colston and another guy whom I did not need/want. I looked over his roster and selected a guy he did not want to give up so we settled on T Cole instead in addition to Colston who has a bum foot and NOLA stinks right now.

I am interested in any reflections on this matter!

I'd personally rather have Chris Johnson than Colston, but I struggle with valuing IDP's so I don't know how much of a difference Cole makes. To me RB's are always the most valuable.

370: GO and I are on the same page. First Judy trades the overall #2 pick of the draft for him (which turns out to be Luck) then flips for an oft-injured Colston. While Johnson hasn't done a lot thus far this ssn, neither has Colston. To make matters worse, Slizz offers Von Miller--a possible difference maker--and she refuses him but then takes Cole. I don't usually value DL guys much unless he gets a high number of sacks. With that said, trades aren't required to be even or even close to be acceptable. I have rejected one trade ever and this won't be one of them.

Judy, I asked you to email me your rationale as the commishes approve trades in this league. The only way a vote would happen if a rejected trade is appealed and then you are looking at a super-majority to have it overturned.

I asked for von miller first. But he did not want to give him up and suggested cole and I agreed. Prefer miller to cold.

Nb. Trade was a bad idea on My part and I have since acquired both Morris and brown. Cj will sit on my bench.

Toral - where does karabell have your boy Pead ranked??? ;)

As for the trade, I thought my initial offer was better from an overall value standpoint...but Judy didn't want another rb to rot on her bench and countered with an IDP.

Colston is consistent and gives her stability at the position...especially with Brees slinging the rock. If healthy, he is a solid option week in and week out.

Let the trade play itself out before rushing judgment. I got killed for my trade with ref in G20...but I think I'll end up on the better end of it.

People were quick to jump on me for my thoughts on Pead...but three weeks in its looking pretty spot on.

Actually if I had Pead I wouldn't care what he did this year. He's not going to start until Jackson's gone anyway.

I put up the rankings, as should be obvious, just to make the point that a trade for two players ranked that closely couldn't be vetoable.

As promised:

This “white paper” is an analysis of the DST position through the first two weekends of play for 2012. The purpose of this presentation is for the league members to consider the elimination of the DST position for 2013.

DATA:

(Teams are actual NFL teams, not G24 ones. The numbers are 2nd week/1st week)
The order is highest to lowest for week 2:

Focus on the disparities between weeks, the negative numbers posted by many teams (10 over two weeks), the low scoring by most teams on a per week basis.

Packers 28 / 6 (nb. 28 included 4 INT, 7 SK, 168 YA, 10 PA)
Seattle 24.5 / 7
Bills 19.5 / -6
Texas 18.5 / 21.5
Steelers 16 / 1
SD 14 / 15
AZ 11 / 16
Falcons 11 / 8 (11 was 3 INT, 3 SK, 1 DFR, 1FF)
Bears 9 / 19.5
Skins 8.5 / 2.5
Miami 8 / 5
NEP 7.5 / 19.5
Ravens 7 / 21
Colts 7 / 3
Bengals 7 / -6
Carolina 7 / 8
49ers 6.5 / 5
Eagles 6 / 17
Rams 4.5 / 10
Cle 4 /19.5
Lions 4 / 5
TB 3.5 / 20
NYG 3 / 2
Vikes 2.5 /5.5
Jets 2 / 8
Dallas 1 / 10
Denver 0.5 / 15.5
Titans -0.5 / -3.5
NO -2.5 / 3.5
Jax -2.5 / -0.5
KC -4 / -5
Oak -4.5 / -2.5

So after two weeks, we have DST TOTALS with:

3 teams above 30 (40, 34, 31.50)
10 teams between 20 and 29
10 teams between 19 and 10.50
5 teams between 10 and 1 (2 @ 1)
4 teams in the negative (-0.50, -2.5, -3.5, -9.0)

For a required position over these two weeks, the range is mighty wide. (40 to -9.0).

There are 32 NFL DST and 24 in G24. So everyone either:

is stuck with a bye week zero (which might be better for some teams..);
has used up a roster spot to hold a second DST;
has to make a low level trade to cover a bye week;
has to consider using a keeper spot at draft time on a DST to be sure to have a decent one;
can be stuck with a lousy DST for an entire season with no hope of a change.

I propose that the UNPREDICTABILITY of the DST position is out of whack with all other positions. The change to increased NFL offense in terms of PA and YA has lead to crummy scores even if a team has Sk, INT, FR, FF, etc.

A manager can have a really nice team effort from his/her 12 individual players and either get screwed or become a winner with an out of norm and unpredictable DST performance. That is ABSOLUTELY NO FUN!

Is that what we want?

We dropped the DST in RIFC and have 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DB and 1 flex and it works GREAT!! There are also so many more options for adding and dropping the IDP players and that provides for more roster movement and excitement.

Being “stuck” with a DST whether you like them or not is no fun. There is no managerial power there. Almost everywhere else, (except the K -- but the range there is not as great -- 34 to 9, all positives), you can make some roster choices.

You can make choices with the other 12 positions/players throughout the season, both with roster changes and with drop/add, waiver requests. You can’t really change your DST, except to cover your bye week if you can.

Each week, most managers watch as their team score goes down as the other team scores against their defense. There is absolutely no joy in that.

One position should not destroy the efforts of the other 12 players. The inflexibility of the DST options creates a league wide imbalance that could be considered “unfair” to the majority of managers. Look again at the scores for weeks 1 and 2.

I would like to propose that we drop the DST position for 2013 and add a third flex IDP position.

This would give us:
a balance of 6 offensive players, 6 IDP’s and the K;
a reasonable chance to predict outcomes of the individual players…;
more legitimacy to the scoring of the rest of the 12 lineup players;
more options for creating a weekly lineup through benching, drop/adds and waivers.

Any thoughts?

Now is the time to speak up and act!

Thanks.

Judy

Of the 8 (so far) high DST score this week (15.5 and up), 4 were on the bench. (22, 19.5, 19, and 15.5).
19 scores were under 5 -- only one of those was benched!

By the way no harm, no foul.

Just interested in other's opinions...

I don't like the dst in this league given how in depth our idp positions are. it's stupid. We, as a league, focus so much on a deep idp roster, yet still have a team dst which doubles stats such as sacks, ints, etc. It's just as arbitrary as having a team offense (which we don't have).

If we seriously consider adding a team offense, keeping the team d would make sense to me. we would be able to replicate what we have in defense (yardage, TDs, FGs). So someone like me can have the Falcons OST and Rams DST. That way when Matt Ryan throws a TD to Roddy White I can get the bonus of OST yardage and another six points!!!!

Now, I'm just being sarcastic to make a point.

Team defense, IMO, is there because the casual fantasy football players can just focus on those who move the ball and are identified on sports center, etc. not those who make tackles, defend passes, and do the little things that don't show up in the highlights sans a pick six or fumble recovery...

The biggest roadblock is going to be getting those who invested keeper slots in dsts which have helped carry their squads (jets, ravens, steelers, bears, etc.). If I am in their shoes it's a question of why should I agree to such a rule??

Owners like GO (Jets DST) have zero incentive to do this. It hurts his team as he loses a keeper whose defense is a consensus top 3 every year under Rex.

I'd rather give owners the option of a team d or idp flex play and scale the dst back to just include yardage so there is no double dipping.

*Excuse typos...typed on the droid.

GO: Slizz is referring to the fact that an idp on your team who is also a member of your D/ST will have their stats credited twice: Once as an idp and another as a member of your D/ST.

We award individual statistics for idp players.

When they get a sack, ff, safety, int, etc. the dst they play for gets awarded those points as well.

Ex: Darelle Revis Pick Six (will have to wait until 2013 for that): Revis IDP gets pass defense, int, and TD. The DST is awarded those points as well.

It's the only position on our rosters where double points can be awarded. We don't have it for offense, why should we have it for defense?? Tradition??

If we do the same for offense ill drop my argument.

But its also not some kind of guarantee that I'm going to have a bunch of IDP's from the same team. I would in fact say its not very common. And all that would be is a strategic risk... cause while I could get double points for something -- if they do nothing its 2x nothing. So who cares. Let the manager have that strategy decision.

I don't really see much analysis or strategy with the IDP guys cause they are impossible to rank or predict with consistency. I'd personally rather get rid of them instead of guess on whether my LB will have 3 tackles or 6 tackles. There is no -- oh this guy is playing Cleveland this week, I better start him because they'll probably run up the middle over and over again... who knows. But you can strategize and predict with a Team D vs. an opposing offense.

And its not like IDP is an accurate way to indicate good defensive players either. Some of the best players i.e. Revis are worthless in IDP.

Good points on both sides. Volatility of DST is an issue, as is lack of predictability of IDP's from game to game. I tend to like it the way it is for now, however it is possible we could tweak the scoring for DST's in order to remove some of that volatility. One thing I have always had a problem with, with DST's, is that the best defense (points, yards allowed) isn't always the best DST. The best DST is who has the most sacks, turnovers, and TD's. If we could mitigate the points for in those situations, and maximize rewarding DST for allowing a relatively low number of yards and points allowed, then we might have something.

Good point about the points... cause a good "real" defense much like Revis isn't necessarily a high scoring fantasy defense. This is why they say to never waste a high draft pick on a defense cause you can't really predict turnovers or defensive TD's.

I have zero interest in removing the D/ST teams position. There's not a fair compensation, in my opinion, to remove it given this is a keeper league. D/ST has been with the league since its inception. If you don't like your D/ST, work to find a better one.

I can agree with tweaking the scoring of DST, but not with removing them.

The scoring could be tweaked to lessen the impact of negative scores. There is a correlation between yards given up and scores, why penalize a team for both. I disagree with with the value of DST is sacks and turnovers, provided we are talking about real football, not fantasy. The most valuable DST is the one that doesn't give up any points, but more valuable is the one that scores points. Having 10 sacks in a game is great, but not if you also give up 50 points.

One of the things I like about this league is how it makes every position valuable. In normal leagues a few DST and Ks get drafted before the last round, but plenty of owners leave the draft with neither. There isn't little value. In our league there is value, as you have to have one and waiting to long comes with a potential large negative. It also helps promote trades as we don't have enough DST and Ks to cover byes. Those trades aren't usually huge, but they help create a motive for talking trades.

Frick, thank you for the pragmatic view of the situation...

My point was to mainly illustrate the overlaps in scoring that result from the DST category. I don't like the fact that it is the only category where it is rewarded twice...especially with how in depth our IDP scoring is.

I would absolutely be for a DST scoring system which allows the IDPs to collect the individual statistics and the defense to focus more on yards/points against.

As far as eliminating it, I don't see it as a feasible option given how so many teams have kept DST's and have relied on them throughout the years.

I do agree with giving an option of flexing a DST with IDP player. It sucks for the team that is stuck with (insert token crappy team - Cleveland Browns DST) when they have to go up against New England or a team that will likely blow them out. They're forced to get negative points just to have a valid lineup.

I was crunching some numbers and it seems to me that there is room for tweaking the yards and points allowed scoring for DST's. Last year the 49ers had the lowest allowed points against and scored 100 fantasy points from that, which seems to me right on the mark. They allowed roughly 14 PPG. The median PPG allowed last year was 22 PPG, which would score exactly 0 points for a season. The worst team allowed 31 PPG, and received -45 fantasy points.

As for yards allowed, the points gained from it are so minimal as to not even need it. The best team in yards allowed, the Steelers, allowed 282 yards per game on average, which would net them a whopping 8 points for a season. The median Yards allowed per game value last year was 348 yards. That would give a team zero points.

I would propose to raise the points allowed thresholds 1 level from the 21-24, so that it receives 1 point, the next 0, and so on, removing the -10.

I would significantly raise the points given for yards allowed, and also tweak the rates a bit higher as well. Perhaps double the points on the plus side, and put the 0 value on 350-399.

On the flip side, I would give one point for all takeaways and sacks, eliminate blocks, and safeties would be 2 points. TD's would remain the same.

Everyone needs to remember that this is a KEEPER League. In order to REMOVE a potentially impact position from someone, I think we'd need to give compensation like adding an extra pick in every round based on where their D ranked or will rank or the avg of that. I don't know but it would be tough to do.

History: When we started, we didn't have yards allowed. There were several who wanted it added. Doug might have had a proposal. We wanted it to have a little bit of impact but not a lot. We took the avg. of all teams from the previous 3 years and it was at like 298 yds or something like that. We rounded it to 300 and then made that the center point and put yards on either side so if your team was avg it wouldn't get or lose any points--then adjusted from there. The league voted to implement it.

Since then, there have been proposals on D, including forcing you to keep a D (within your keepers or even adding a keeper which must be a D, to make it so you only lose points when directly scored against, to eliminate STs aspect of it, to alter the scoring aspects of it and they all failed except I think we tweaked maybe safeties or something--I can't remember.

The concept of these leagues are for you to have to go very deep. Not only with the number of teams but the amount of players we actually use. We have tried to make it very appealing to trade and make WW/FA transactions. We do not want someone who is having a bad season to lose interest as we have made it so he/she can play for next season through FA acquisitions as possible keepers or trading for those types of players or draft picks. We also want everyone to do their best each week so it is fair for those competing with the top teams who have to play those teams who are out of it. We have seen many o' upsets.

With that in mind, I still see a lot of usable players on the FA wire. I really think we can add another flex IDP w/o any issue whatsoever. I just don't think we can give up the DST for it. There is a strategy in DSTs. Huge risk/reward. I am not saying it is perfect, but my more recent proposals on them have been soundly defeated. I think we are always up for ideas on how to improve things. I mean I'd like to eliminate the RB position because I don't have one really but that's not going to happen. :)

True, but there is ONE available DST's: OAK with a season total of -2.5. Who would want them -- even for a bye week?

I would love to use a Flex IDP instead of these losers. You would have to have a DST on your roster, but you would not be required to use them...

Here are my thoughts on the D/ST White Paper:

1. The volatility (as the WP says, "unpredictability") of D/ST scores is, in an HtH league, an argument FOR KEEPING the D/ST, not for abolishing it. If D/ST scores just sat there every week like a slug, not moving, that would be an argument for getting rid of the position. Volatile positions are GOOD for a HtH league.

As a side note, it was asserted that DSTs were more unpredictable than other positions. I don't believe that, and no evidence was given.

2. The problem of negative scores is an illusion. In a HtH league, in a game, it doesn't matter whether your DST scores -5 and your opponents' 5, or whether yours scores 5 and his 15. He gains 10 points on you. I would agree with the scoring being tweaked to raise the average, for aesthetic reasons.

3. The attempt to get rid of DSTs in 2013 was doomed from the beginning, for reasons Ref stated eloquently in his first paragraph. And my thoughts were the same as Ref's on the best form of compensation if a change were to be made, which would only happen if it had to be made -- let us say if CBS in their weird arbitrariness suddenly abolished the DST position. The best compensation for teams' loss of keeper interests would be the granting of "sandwich" picks between rounds during the draft. The 2 teams with the 2 best DSTs would get a pick at the end of the first round, the next 2 best at the end of the second round, something like that. Probably rate the DSTs by averaging last year's score with a projection.

As a side note I was once in a keeper baseball league with a guy who wanted to change from AVG to OBP immediately, in year X. He put forth a motion which was defeated, partly because of the keeper issue. It was suggested to him that a motion to change beginning in year X+1 might pass. (It would have come close at least.) He never made such a motion.

The next year, same thing.

The next year, same thing.

The next year, same thing.

For some reason he would not put forward a motion to change 2 years from now, and preferred to be defeated every year.

4. The change I would support would be this: during the draft, as soon as the number of DSTs available exactly equals the number of teams not having a DST, no other team may draft a DST, and each team without a DST must draft one with its next pick. This would eliminate the possibility of a team not having a DST and being subjected to extortionate conditions to get one.

I like D/ST's. The RIFC already got rid of them and I play in 2 RIFC formats. I really don't care to have all the leagues I'm in be all the same.

That said, I would support simplifying the scoring system to just points allowed and possibly yardage allowed. Good defensive efforts that don't give up a lot of points should be rewarded.

More QBs are throwing for 300 yards per game than ever. The game itself has evolved since the current D/ST scoring parameters were set up.

Plus you never know which ones are going to be great year to year. SF was great last year, but their whole team was too--in a week division. But the NL West is much improved so far this sason and as SF had a good year last season, this season's schedule is much tougher.

The SF D/ST is decent this year, but not nearly as good as last season, and the season prior to last year they were not even a keeper.

The NFL likes parity, and through the salary cap and scheduling do a pretty good job achieving their goal.

KC DST has 10 total points and Jax DST has 8 total points.

Both managers have two DST but the both Brownies DST had bye week 7 (KC and Jax) so it is merely a swap of two crappy DST to prevent a bye week zero -- which is what I opted for this week.

I don't think you selling low on Rivers, you are stuck with the baggage of Norv and his possible firing looming over his shoulders.

Actually, based on past precedent, I'm not sure I would sell. Isn't about now, the time they suddenly start playing like a quality play-off team?

Still seething from his 6 turnovers 2 weeks ago that cost me 2 games.

So happy he had a bye last week.

Other than that stupid pick he threw in the end zone last night, he was good, but I hate being happy that his D scored twice, causing them to not rely on him passing anymore.

Don't even want to get into how much I dislike Norv.

They had a great tidbit on Rivers on NFL matchup a couple weeks back to where Hodge dissected his throwing motion & production (or lack thereof).

To sum it up, mother age is catching up to him as his very unique throwing motion requires more time and torque on his body. It's like a fastball pitcher who no longer can throw that heat but hasn't adjusted yet.

Look at some of his downfield throws to meachem/Floyd/etc that come up short and aren't in stride...a lot of those ints are throws he used to be able to make and still thinks he can...

Read into it how you want, but that scares me about his long term viability as a fantasy starting qb.

Didn't catch that show, but I'd noticed there was an issue of some concern. Thought it might be injury related, but with his throwing mechanics, it makes perfect sense looking at his last couple of years.

I think all players regardless of start time get frozen at 1 PM. Another CBS flaw. I think thats a battle Ref has fought for years with baseball if I remember correctly.

Yahoo now has the Game Time Waivers option which is pretty solid.

If they freeze 5 min prior to the start of their game, you should be able to move them until their freeze.

Hopefully it won't matter. Luckily my injury replacements look to be coming through for me when I really needed them.

The thing I love (emphasizing sarcasm) is how the Seahawks dst (22pts), without a defensive TD, scored almost as much as Matt Ryan...who put up 411 yards and 3 TDs / 1 INT (26).

To me...the dst can be argued as the most valuable slot in g24. If you have one, its better than having an elite qb...if you don't, better hope the rest of your squad is decent. A bad qb will still get you some points...but it wont lose you points. That shouldn't be the case.

That said, I'm in favor of tweaks...

34 points for DST Denver -- did not need it to win, but opponents DST only scored minus 0.5 (NOLA) and minus 1.5 (SD).

Still hate DST... Gotta be tweaked...let's be sure to discuss before next season...

Wow - my first week under 100 points. The Bears D finally had a fail.

McGehee now out, hopefully will have enough depth to last in the playoffs, but the thing that's been bugging me is that in all the fantasy football seasons Ive ever been in with Guru folks, I've never seen the best regular season team win the playoffs. If I had a choice, I'd rather be in this position (already clinching a playoff spot), but I will have to buck a trend to win this thing.

Anyone in the hunt this year interested in Michael Turner, Steven Jackson, or Antonio Gates?

Looking for a promising young player I can keep, or more likely draft pick upgrades next year.

I've also got some quality IDPs or K I'd be willing to move as part of a deal (I realize nobody gives up an early pick for these guys alone, just something that can be added as part of the package to make it sweeter for you).

PLAYOFFS
Playoff Game Tiebreak Policy:
1st tiebreaker: Most TD's scored
2nd tie: Most TD's passing
3rd tie: Highest single scoring player
4th tie Next highest scoring player and so on

Playoff teams will be announced at the end of week #13, which is the end of the regular season. Playoff teams will be seeded accordingly:

#1 seed = division winner with best record
#2 seed = other division winner
#3 seed = wildcard team with best record
#4 seed = other wildcard team

Seeds #1/#4 and Seeds #2/#3 will play in week #14, with the winners advancing to meet for their respective conference championship in week #15. Each conference winner will advance to the SuperBowl to be held in week #16. Losers will also continue playing to vie for placement for cash prizes (if app.). i.e. If you lose in round one, the best you can do is 5th place.

Runner-Up playoffs: We run teams 9-16 (Wanna-be Bowl) and teams 17-24 (Toilet Bowl) in a single elimination version of our Super Bowl. All stats will count but only regular season records will be counted toward your draft order for the following year.

first wins, then total points. so we have the following seeds

AFC:
1 San Diego
2 Cincinnati
3 Buffalo
4 Kansas City
5 Baltimore
6 NY Jets
7 Cleveland
8 Denver
9 Houston
10 Oakland
11 Indianapolis
12 Jacksonville

NFC:
1 Detroit
2 Green Bay
3 Philadelphia
4 NY Giants
5 New Orleans
6 Arizona
7 Chicago
8 Carolina
9 Dallas
10 Seattle
11 San Francisco
12 Minnesota

matchups are
1 vs 4, 2 vs 3
5 vs 8, 6 vs 7
9 vs 12, 10 vs 11

my matchup (CIN - BUF) will be interesting. coming from the same division we met twice already and are 1-1 in that duel. I hope I can repeat my week 7 performance of 138.8 points and not my week 13 total of 99.6 points.

mjd - our matchup is even more intriguing because of the bryce brown factor. he's a guy I drafted and wanted to keep on my bench, but had to let go of because of injuries / bye-weeks. of course i chose to drop him over evan royster (foolish). now there's a chance that he ends my season!

504-McCoy coming back could really complicate things and while Brown saved my season at a critical time, he's probably going to steal some of McCoy's touches once Shady returns. Though if he doesn't learn to tuck away the rock.... I don't need another turnover machine on my team.

Ref with the shocking upset of B7...Didn't see that coming.

As it turned out, my team needed one win to make the playoffs. I scored the 4th highest total of the week and lost both games. I remember once, I lost 2 games and had the 3rd highest total of the week. That's not easy to do. But, that week was less important.

So, the odds of losing the first game would be 3 in 23. And the odds of also losing the 2nd game would be 2 in 22.

3/23 * 2/22 = 6 / 506 or 1 in 84 chances of having the 4th highest score of the week and losing both games. Plus, one of the teams I lost to was 5-19.

B7 -'Losing to MJD was one thing as he's been hot all year...Refs Colts fought hard to the end and, as a result, it cost him the #1 odds for 1.01 in next years supplemental draft.

Greg - having Jimmy Graham helps give you an edge over most opponents due to his WR like production...Same thing that happened to you with Bryce Brown happened to me with Cecil Shorts...can't keep em all!

MJD - it's a good long term problem to have...I'd be very surprised if the birds put McCoy out on the field for the remainder of the year. It seems they're in all out rebuilding mode.

Waver wire guys like Brown, Shorts, and Dario Alexander put up some good numbers when Sproles. Benson, Harvin, and McCoy all missed or are missing significant time to injuries.

Hoping for more of the same from Riley Cooper if Shorts is out this week. It's said that he passed his concussion test and is cleared to play, but he missed practice yesterday because he's still bothered by his concussion symptoms. Not sure what to make of that.

I got Nerfed last season - teams scored an average of 110 points against me. That meant I was 11-15 when I probably should have been something like 15-11. Anyways, that weird 11-15 put me in the bottom 8 and I won the lottery. Getting Richardson is one of the reasons I went 22-4 this year. So in a keeper league it isn't necessarily a bad thing to get Nerfed once in awhile in the long run.

I got my work cut out for me next week without my best player (dez bryant) vs the AFCs best.

the Bengals played all year with only 3 offensive weapons (Dalton, Foster and James Jones) and JJ Watt. Jones disappeared the last few weeks. Vernon Davis was not targeted anymore because of his blocking skills and even Chris Givens provided mostly stats from his returns. The Ravens defense was horrible in the 1st quarter where they gave up too many yards and 14 points. the rest of the game they were ok, but the damage was already done against the top scoring player of the league.

I had several players with their worst game of the season in week 14:
JJ Watt (5)
James Jones (2.7)
Darius Reynaud (1.6)
Vernon Davis (0.4)

and most others had nearly their worst game:
Dalton, Foster, Givens, Freeman, Mathis, Ravens D

with this many low performers the results can only be 76.46 points which is disappointing for a playoff game.

I've felt your pain YR. Last year I scored a ridiculous 189 points in a meaningless week 13 game and crapped out the following week when I needed every single point.

Week 14 has been my bane the last 2 seasons. Hard to believe that every player on the team can bomb out the same week at such a critical time.

For fantasy purposes I really dislike Thursday night games. Going to force me to make some tough decisions not knowing the health status of a couple of my players. And my SF D/ST must travel cross country to play the high flying Pats who are playing like a well oiled machine and don't mind running up the score.

Ok working on this now, Judy sent me some guidelines. The top half is pretty simple I think.
And also lock KC, CIN, DET, GB from making moves since out of contention. So only BUF, SDG, NYG and PHL can make waiver claims.

Everyone agree with these? and I assume if you get knocked out of Toilet Bowl you just don't play anymore?

AFC Championship - Bills at Chargers
NFC Championship - NYG at Philly
KC at Cincy (consolation?)
GB at Detroit (consolation?)

Arizona at Denver
Cleveland at Carolina

Oakland at Houston
Indy at Dallas

I will again be running the playoff game by MFL. The basic rule is that you can use each player (QB, RB, WR, TE, K, DST once over the course of the playoffs.

So. For example, if you use both Brady and Rodgers in their first games you cannot use them again and might be without a QB for the super Bowl. So ya gotta plan.

I will send out my info when our fantasy season is over, but wanted you to know that your fantasy fix can continue!

Watch this space for announcements. Last year I think we had ~ 20 teams (you can have two!)

The final week should have 6 games total. The top 8 places have to be decided (for payouts) in addition to the winner of the lower two bowls. This is how it should look:

Super Bowl: Bills vs Eagles
3rd Place: Giants vs Chargers
5th Place: Packers vs Chiefs
7th Place: Lions vs Bengals

Wanna Be Bowl (9th Place)
Browns vs Cardinals

Toilet Bowl (17th Place)
Raiders vs Cowboys

In addition, I'm not sure the top 8 teams should be locked at all. They are still playing for prize money, so doesn't make sense that they are barred from making pickups unless that has been done in recent years. Only the non-playoff teams are usually locked as I recall.

I think you are right, in this league all 8 stay unlocked. All my other leagues we lock it up for those not in contention. We should really consider that for this league -- its not like there is a ton of money involved in 5th vs. 6th position. Just play what you got and stay out of the way of those playing for the title is what I've always felt.

It feels good to finally win this thing...getting over the hump and turning the once moribund Bills franchise into a championship squad is definitely the highlight of my fantasy football career.

My team came back this week, but it was a bad time to have 2 off weeks in a row. Oh well! I won't have too many decisions to make on keepers and I love how it's going to shape up next year. Most of my offensive players are relatively young and hungry to do better. Though I can't imagine doing better overall than what I did this year.

If you do not want to play this year, please let me know and I will delete your team(s). If you have (non RIFC) friends who want to play, have them email me (swimichel@mac.com) and I will send out an invitation.

You can have up to two teams!

Will do more research when draft day rolls around but Doug's picks of Lamar Miller and Bernard Pierce are looking like gems.

With Reggie Bush on the outs and Daniel Thomas failing to assert himself as the #1, miller should get the first crack.

Pierce is gonna be a good handcuff to have and those two should help his team transition from S. Jax and Turner.

I've got a reliable top WR (top 10 wideout 4 of last 5 seasons) for sale for a top 10 draft pick or package of leftover guys you can't keep anyway paired with a pick.
Tired of just picking some random rookie WR that does nothing for 2 seasons? Come get Andre Johnson for instant production.

Also have the suddenly valuable Revis! TB Bucs Defense for a small price.

I'm thinking I don't want my main two pass catchers competing for targets - Amendola + Hernandez... so anyone with interest in them make an offer or let me know your interest.

I even have interest in 2-1 type deals too cause I feel like I am a keeper or two short and could use some depth.

And that is the main reason why most people aren't that active with moving players in the off-season.

A month ago, would you have traded Hernandez for Gronk? I would probably have had to give you a draft pick, depending on what the current news about his surgeries was. Since the NFL is averaging an arrest every 5 days this off-season, the downside risk isn't generally worth it.

Also no one paid dues for last season but I paid the fee, so there is that to sort out as well as the prize money.

I just got back from vacation and hope to move the information to the mfl 2013 site and set the parameters for the league.

That's where we are today. We are still very much a work in progress.
