RIFC Managers - You are each invited (although not required) to post your general reflections on the completed draft. Comments may be as detailed or as general as you wish. As a catalyst, free free to comment on any of the following:

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

Non-managers are also welcome to post general comments on the draft, and to raise questions.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

I don’t follow a specific NO RB, or RB-RB-RB strategy. I tend to be a very reactionary drafter. IF I don’t see the value at the tiers I like, I will hold off, sometimes several rounds, from picking what I had initially targeted as a need. I don’t like drafting QBs too early. I also want to roster a player or two who are the consensus TOP players at their position. I do this in order to try to create a little separation from other owners by having already effectively won 1-2 positions every week. Beyond this, my strategy is to not give up till the draft is done. There is sometimes great value still to be had in the late rounds. It’s worth taking a few shots in the 20s when it won’t affect your starting lineup.

I feel I got a team that feels very much like an IAC team… so yes, I think it was executed close enough.

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?

Do overs: It’s too early for that I think. Ask me in a couple weeks, and I’m sure that as players / systems start to play out in the regular season, then, I’ll have more to say on this.

Favorites:

Zeke @ 2.05 - I took a shot on him, mainly because I figured I’d be able to find mediocre replacement parts for his suspension weeks, then have an elite back available for the fantasy playoffs. That’s currently still set up, but there’s a chance this whole suspension gets overturned.

Ginn Jr @ 10.05 - The suspension to Snead explains why he stepped right into that #2 wideout roll in the Big Easy. That hopefully makes for a strong WR2/Flex play.

Jacquizz @ 16.05 - Allows me to breathe easier going into weeks 1-3… while I await Zeke news.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

mmikulka - Seemed to have a somewhat similar drafting style to my own (not sure that’s a good thing!?). A lot of players on this team that I agree with why/when they were taken.
Guru - Had a pretty safe draft overall. Never really reached, and the Hunt pick looks really good.
Twolves - Focused on getting a great starting lineup (including IDPs). Looks like a contender.
Tree (trumpster) - A lot of high-upside picks. Looks like a contender.
artofmonk - Has a lot of skill position players that I would have targeted.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

Maybe it's just me, but I felt there was a lack of injuries / training camp cuts? It didn’t seem like we were impacted very much by what tends to be the reality of the NFL. Should lead to pretty good parity going into the start of the year.

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

No. Even when I didn’t get a targeted player, the other options fit well enough into the overall plan, that I don’t consider there to be any current major wholes. So I’m good.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

My usual plan is to have 2 RBs and 2 WRs after 4 rounds, then fill out most or all of my starting offense before addressing IDP. That was accomplished but I'm not as happy with my IDP players, particularly the DBs as I've been in the past. I also have concerns about my RB slots but we'll see how those pan out. Last part of my plan for every FF draft is to wait until the last round for a kicker. I can't figure out why any team would draft a kicker earlier than round 22 but to each his (or her) own.

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?

Favorite picks were both for value and for players I really like. Value picks I liked were AJ Green, Stafford, Avril, and Kendall Wright. Players I like and wanted on my team include McCaffery, Shazier, Campbell, and Graham. Do overs include the reach for Crowell at 2.04, picking Chris Conte at DB then watching the Bucs sign TJ Ward. Pretty happy with the rest of the picks.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

Really like Guru's starting lineup. Don't see any significant weaknesses other than maybe DB(like my team). I like his chances of finishing 2nd to me!

The rest of us have some positions that need work but the in season moves and avoiding a rash of injuries will be the keys to success, as always.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

As always, surprised by how early people take kickers. IDP depth seemed to thin out earlier than I remember it happening in past years. Otherwise it was a normal, competitive RIFC draft.

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

Well, I left myself a note to use rounds 21-23 for TE2, WR5, and RB5; not necessarily in that order. Seemed there were more serviceable bench options available at that point in the draft than there were IDP picks to make. So I would have filled out my IDP bench/depth a bit sooner, especially at LB and DB. Happy with my DL though.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

My plan varies from year to year, but the common theme's I try to stick to are to try and grab upper tier IDP's early, at least one upper tier guy at each IDP position. This was a year I thought I could also wait on both QB and TE, as I felt there was good depth there. Lastly, I usually try to look at rookies with upside late in the draft. I executed pretty true to this strategy drafting Kwon Alexander, JPP, and Peppers as my IDP's, waiting on both QB (Rivers) and TE (Bennett), and getting a fair number of young upside guys late in the draft (Engram, Kupp, and Golladay).

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?

My favorite picks were getting Rivers in the 10th round as the 15th QB off the board. If Keenan Allen stays healthy, I think Rivers has a chance to be a top 10 QB, and may even threaten the top 5. I also loved getting Jabril Peppers. Assuming the reports are accurate that he should return both punts and kicks, and okay a starting safety/lb hybrid, I think there's a real chance he's the top DB overall. Lastly, I really liked getting Brandon Marshall in the 6th round. Playing opposite ODB, he should have a ton of single coverage, and has a good QB throwing to him.

If the draft had started today, I would have stuck to my original plan of taking Beckham 5th overall. I was a bit nervous about his injury, so I drafted McCoy instead, but knowing what I now know, I would have grabbed Beckham. The other picks I made I'm pretty happy with, although I think I took Alexander a round too high, and should have jumped on Bosa when I had the chance.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

I think I like Kyle's team best overall (other than mine). Julio and Keenan could give him two top 5 WR's, and his RB's, while not "sexy", he has three RB1's he can play matchups with (Miller, Gore, and West).

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

Overall, I thought the draft went about as expected. Some of the rookie RB's went a lot earlier than I was comfortable with them going, but that's the trend I've seen so it didn't surprise me too much. It seems that every year the IDP's go a bit earlier, as well.

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

No major difference in strategy, there are just a few guys I wish I had drafted when I had the chance, Bosa and Eli Manning being the main two. Luckily, both were mid round options, that hopefully don't have a huge impact.

1. Plan
Similar to past years go offensively early with general plan 2 RB and 2WR and fill in from there. I like to get some IDP players early and have all noted trend for earlier and earlier draft positions fro them in all 3 positions--the JJ Watt effect. Last year took TE instead of WR and did not fair well with Reed injured.
The early draft as expected as expected except for Elliot who I was tempted to make in second round since I had RB from first. I was also tempted to take 3rd RB in McCaffrey or Cook in 3rd round but after struggling last year with WR decided to take a prior 1st rounder in Hopkins.

2. Favorite picks? What to do over?
Paul Perkins as if he holds up should have a big year. Jamal Adams in round 17 and Darron Lee hoping my daughter and family have someone to cheer for living in NYC. I like Sam Bradford as backup QB asa I think Vikings will do better offensively this year.

Doing over--not sure but I think I would have drafted Elliot in 2nd round and then taken RB in 3rd round knowing what was available in 20/20.

3. Teams you like
I like Jaydogs as a balanced team and if Rivers has a good year he will be tough. I like Phillybuster and Slackdoug's offensive teams but defense have couple of question marks with injuries.

4, Surprises
As noted earlier the PK being taken early and I am guilty, too.
The top IDP projectors seem go earlier and earlier in draft.
The number of linebackers taken by teams as 6 teams have 4 and 1 team with 5.

5. Would do anything differently.

Other than noted above possibly related to RBs and redoing WR which I seem to say every year was happy with draft.
