Here is the league for 2015:
RIFC AAA #1 Damoose, co-commish Crabby Bills, co-commish Bean Holt I_AM_CANADIAN loki marbam50 Perm Dude s_R Slackjawed Yokel SwinganaMiss Valkyrie Wiggs Youngroman
Damoose will be sending out invitations from myfantasyleague.com.
The co-commissioner (Crabby Bills) is my wife. She will manage her own team (this is her 3rd year in the RIFC leagues), but I'll probably honcho the draft and handle the regular season setup duties.
I'll be away on vacation until August 10, so hopefully damoose can get the invites out and you can all register before I return. |

Getting reacclimated to this country again...
I'm thinking we'll begin the draft order selection process on Sunday or Monday (Aug 16-17). As you may recall, we draft using a "Bonzai" sequence, which is the same as a traditional snake draft EXCEPT that the third round is reversed. So if you get the #1 overall pick, you'll pick last in rounds 2, 3, and 4.
I'll plan to start the actual draft sometime around August 28th or so.

I will be starting the draft selection round momentarily. I will use the MFL system to generate a random order, but this will only be the order for the draft selection round.

Here is the order of the draft selection round:
1 Perm Dude 2 Holt 3 youngroman's Luschen 4 Slackjawed Yokel 5 Bean 6 The Titans of New York 7 Valkyrie 8 damoose 9 s_R 10 I_AM_CANADIAN 11 Crabby Bills 12 marbam50 13 SwinganaMiss 14 Wiggs
Remember that the actual draft uses the "bonzai" order, which is the same as a traditional snake draft except that the third round is reversed. So the team with the #1 overall pick will draft last in rounds 2, 3, & 4. The team drafting last in round 1 will draft first in rounds 2, 3, and 4.
Please post your selection in this thread when it is your turn. If you can, please email the next manager on the list after you pick. Email addresses can be found under Reports->Franchise->Franchise information at the myfantasyleague.com site.

Draft order has been entered at myfantasyleague.com
I set up the draft to go active at noon ET on August 27. The draft timer will be off until one round is completed. After that, there will be a 4 hour clock, with a moratorium from midnight-8am ET. These are the standards that I've used for the RIFC for many years. Those living overseas may need to rely more heavily on queues, depending on circumstances.
Since the draft starts prior to games for NFL Preseason Week #3, we'll "protect" a team who drafts a player before his week #3 game and who is injured in that game. If you are in that situation, you'll have 24 hours to make a substitute pick - but only from the player pool still remaining.
So, for example, if Tim Tebow is drafted by Crabby Bills prior to the Eagles game on Aug 29, and Tebow is injured in that game (significantly enough to potentially impact regular season availability), then Crabby Bills can jettison Tebow and substitute any other player who is still in the undrafted pool at the time of the jettison. This, however, must be done by the end of day August 30.
While this obviously isn't complete insurance, it is designed to keep the draft moving during that first weekend. And it's certainly better than being stuck with an eventual free agent to replace an early draft pick. Hopefully, this situation will never come into play.
The other option is to wait until Sunday to start the draft. I could live with that option, too, but that would mean that the draft is likely to continue through Labor Day weekend. I think the league is better served to get the draft started earlier.

Here are some guidelines for executing your draft picks. (These are copied from last year's RIFC thread. Please let me know if I have misspecified anything)
1. "My Draft List" - Under the "For Owners" menu (at the top), there is an item called My Draft List. You can think of this as your personal pre-ranking of players if you wish, although it has one important operational impact. If your 4-hour clock expires, then your pick will be automatically selected as the top name on your "My Draft List". Only if that list is empty will your pick be skipped. (More on this in a moment.)
2. "Pre-Draft Pick" list - You access this through "For owners->Draft" These are the equivalent of the Drafttime.com "queue", with several important distinctions: There is a separate list/queue for each round, and they do not carry over, and If there is a name in your queue, that player will be immediately selected when it is your turn to draft. The only way to turn off a round-specific queue is to empty it. Therefore, it is important to keep your queues empty unless you are sure that they should be used. If you expect to want to load & unload your queue frequently (similar to turning it on or off), then you should probably keep a list of players in "My Draft list", as you can quickly pull up that short list to add players to any queue.
Of course, if you have players in "My Draft List", then you are also subject to having those players selected if you should time-out. Typically, that shouldn't be a problem, as timing-out should be a rare occurrence.
If you want to keep players loaded in "My Draft List" and you dont want to risk the top name being selected automatically upon timeout, then I suggest putting a "placeholder" player at the top of your list - preferably someone who is retired, or injured, or clearly not a viable pick. We can come up with specific placeholder options, if needed. If you time-out and a placeholder player is automatically selected for you, then you can have the commish replace that player with a real pick when you are available.
Note that because queued picks are automatically processed, there is no role tantamount to a designated picker. As commissioner, I can enter a pick on anyone’s behalf. Other than that, you – or anyone else with access to your MFL password – will be the only one who can directly enter a pick.
If any of these instructions are unclear, please ask. And if anything is incorrect, please alert!

Yes, but the typical pace for one of these RIFC drafts is 6-8 days.
Round #1 is always the slowest. For some reason, it just takes awhile for everyone to get focused.
The latter rounds are always much faster.

The AA league took almost two days to get through the first round. They've then knocked off an average of 3 rounds per day since then.
We just need to get everyone in draft mode.

MFL offers alert systems for both email and text messages. If you elect to receive draft status updates via email, you'll get an email every time a pick is made, which also lists all subsequent autopicks. If you get text messages, you'll get notices only for direct picks, but not for any intervening autopicks. (If you elect to receive texts this way, make sure you validate your cell #)
I have also written a draft monitoring program that sends out a simple email and/or text message every time a draft pick is made - regardless of whether it's an autopick or not.
It monitors the draft every 10 minutes. If you would like to receive either an email or a text message (or both) every time any pick is made, please send me an email – and let me know where you would like the message sent. If you want a text message, please tell me the cell number and your cell carrier. Send your request to davehall@rotoguru2.com
When an email is sent, the pick is in the email subject line – so you don’t have to actually open the email to see it.

The draft is just about over.
Starting at noon Sunday, you may place bids on any undrafted players. This blind bidding period will end at 7:30pm ET Wednesday evening, when bids will be awarded. Starting at 10:30pm ET, free agents may be added FCFS.
As you should recall, each team has $100 in blind bid funds to work with during the season. Any funds spent during this preseason period will count against that total.
For the preseason bidding, ties will be broken in the reverse order of the draft selection round. Since Wiggs got the last choice, he has the top priority for tiebreaking.
Once the season starts, blind bid ties will be broken based on league standings.

I have had terrible luck with my number 1 draft picks in the RIFC leagues. In 2006 Shaun Alexander experienced the Madden curse breaking his foot in the 3rd game. Two years later I picked Tom Brady in the 1st round, and he missed the entire season injuring his knee in the 1st game. Dez Bryant has continued my tradition. The reports are saying that he will be back in 4-6 weeks. However he broke his 5th metatarsal, and it will require surgical pinning. I think that missing 8-10 weeks is a more realistic estimate. Hope I am wrong. On another sour note: The Giants were handed last night's game by the Cowboys, and then they channelled the Jets and snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory. 1st they do not score with 1st and goal on the 4 yard line, then Manning throws the 3rd down pass away instead of taking the sack and running 40 seconds off the clock, then a short kick off allowed Romo to start from the 28 yard line, and finally Spignola's defense allowed Romo to go 72 yards to score. :-( :-(

loki - in the "For Owners" menu select "Injured Reserve". your player needs to have the "I" designation at MFL to place a player on IR. I guess you are thinking about Dez Bryant, but it seems that he will avoid IR. I had the same problem with Stevan Ridley who only went to PUP but not IR with the designated for return tag.

To prove that things can always get worse in fantasy football Luke Kuechly is out for an indeterminate time with a cerebral concussion. He cannot be rushed back as that decision will be made by an independent neurologist (very good decision by the NFL). He could be out for one game or the rest of the season because recovery from a concussion is very variable. He scored 11 FPs in half a game, and next to JJ Watt, I think he is best IDP.

4th highest points for, highest points against. therefor only 2-2. and I still believe that my team stinks. and that coach that set the lineup should be fired. all these points on the bench would have resulted in a 4-0 start to the season.

it looks like our scoring rules are missing the offense fumble recovery TDs because Julio Jones is missing 6pts for that. this would really help my team that otherwise sucked this week.
any idea on the procedure? I guess the intent is that every player scoring a TD should get the 6pts for it no matter how strange the play was. is it possible to do a rule change and re-run stat processing?
there is a link at MFL that sums up all strange plays. looks like last week Ed Dickson did the same as Julio Jones this week, with the difference that nobody noticed because he was not on any roster.

As we approach the playoffs, I thought it would be useful to recap the transition period.
The Championship playoffs will be comprised of 8 teams. The Top 6 are selected by W/L record, and the last two are the two remaining teams with the highest weekly point average. The 5-8 seeds are then sorted based on points rather than W/L.
The Championship playoffs are a three week, single elimination tournament with no reseeding from week to week. Once the bracket is set, teams flow normally through the bracket.
At the start of the playoffs, extra blind bidding $ are awarded to the 8 teams. The top seed gets an extra $16, while the #8 seed gets $2. These amounts are added to any remaining blind bidding dollar that each team may still have.
Once the regular season has ended, teams that are no longer alive in the Championship bracket are frozen, and may no longer make add or drop transactions. Championship bracket teams may make add/drop moves without restriction – except for the timing of the weekly blind bidding.
Playoff blind bidding will take place on Thursdays at 3pm ET. The delay is to wait until after any scoring changes are processed on Thursday morning, since scoring changes can impact the teams that are still alive.
Each commissioner may set up additional consolation brackets at his or her discretion. Just remember that if you are in a consolation bracket, your team roster is locked. You can change your start/bench selections from week to week, but you cannot make any free agent moves.

damn! scoring 166pts this week (2nd best), I missed the playoffs because of 7pts. damn! my team got healthy enough too late and there were always players that got injured early in their games. In the end Stevie Johnson's latest injury on Sunday may have been the final difference.
all the best to the playoff teams.

Playoff brackets have been set. Six teams are based on regular standings, and the last two teams are based on total points. This year, those two teams are Holt (12-14, 132.2 avg.) and Gremlins (9-17, 125.4 avg.) Seedings for #5-8 are reset based on points, so Bean drops to the #7 seed (132.2 avg, less than one YTD point behind Holt.)
If Thursday morning scoring changes cause a change in standings, the playoff brackets will be adjusted to compensate. The most likely place that this could happen is in the relative seeding between Bean and Holt.
Blind bidding $ have been adjusted per the rules. Blinding bidding will take place on Thursday at 3pm ET. Free agent FCFS adds will begin at 6pm Thursday.
Teams that are not active in the Championship bracket will not be allowed to make add/drop moves.
In the Consolation bracket, the first round loser with the most points in that game will advance to fill the open spot. Pairings may be manually adjusted to avoid a repeat matchup.

Scoring corrections cause a change in seedings. Slackjawed Yokel gets an extra win (over Bean), pushing him to the #2 seed. Valkyrie drops to the #3 seed.
Brackets and related settings have been adjusted.

Seeds 1, 2, 3, and 5 all advanced in the championship bracket.
In the consolation bracket, seeds 1, 2, and 3 all won. The top scoring loser was damoose, who also moves to the next round.
My wife's team, Crabby Bills, narrowly missed qualifying as the #8 seed over all - by less than 10 points over the full season. Had she made it as the #8 seed, she would have knocked off the #1 overall seed. In fact, she would have beaten every team in the championship bracket this week. All moot, of course.

Judy, not sure if this something to bring up to Guru for all the leagues. But maybe a change could be considered for the consolation brackets I have 2 ideas:
1. No cash for waivers. That way the guys still in the hunt for the championship get first crack. But after the waiver deadline any team with a game can pick up a FA.
2. Keep it like it is but let the commish make a switch at the managers request for an injury only situation.
Obviously #2 gives the most control and the least disruption to the contenders but has the most labor intensity. Either way though, it seems if we're going to have games we should be able to at least field a full team.

congratulations s_R. have fun with the big boys next season.
it is nice to win the consolation bracket, although the win was not in domination fashion. lots of my draft choices were bad, either because they got injured or because they simply sucked. see you next year.

Thanks guys. I was lucky on offense without my top 4 draft picks.

Good job SR and good luck in RIFC next year.
I made the playoffs so it wasn't a total disaster, but I had some odd trends all season. My terrible DB production really took away from my good DL/LB production. I tried and tried but had terrible results from those DB slots all year. Had a rough time with QB's. Liked my WR and RB's but they had a terrible time finding the endzone. You can't win on yards alone. I didn't have many weeks where my guys piled up the touchdowns.
Good luck in the RIFC to those who get to move back up. It was fun.

Congratulations to the playoff winner and to those moving up to RIFC in 2016.
I enjoyed playing in this league and tried to stay competitive for the entire season. That however meant playing to stay out of last place. My team could not recover from injuries. Dez Bryant missed 6 games and then was ineffective somewhat because of rust, but primarily because Tony Romo missed most of the season. Then the reverse happened to me with Aaron Rogers who had an off year due in no small part to Jordy Nelson missing the season. The Titans faired no better on the defensive side. Luke Keuchly, probably the best IDP after Watts, missed significant time because of a concussion, and Robert Quinn missed most of the season. The final nail in the coffin was my exceptionally poor draft of running backs.
I am looking forward to playing against some of you in the baseball season.
Happy and healthy New Year to all.
