The Fun Stuff, Jokes, Links, ETC. thread is getting a bit long so I was thinking about starting two new threads. This one for cool links and videos and the other one I already started for jokes. |

Deer Hunter Man Show Humor
Not sure what this is, but it is cool. You move your mouse around the screen and drag this skeleton. Click on the buttons at the top right: wire, xray, dislocation, anti-gravity, mutation X, and high quality. You can even try different combos.

The object of the game is to move the red block around without getting hit by the blue blocks or touching the black walls. If you can go longer than 18 seconds you are great or something. The first time I went .422 seconds. After a dozen tries I got up to 25.13 seconds. It gets pretty fast right around then.
Fun game

I made it to 35.67 seconds...there is a definate pattern you can follow where you don't really have to move it much until about 20 seconds into the game.

The times for the game in post 2 are definitely related to the processor speeds of your computer. Was wondering why the fastest I could get on my Pentium 4-2.4GHz and Pentium M-2Ghz machines was 21 seconds. Tried on my old trusty AMD-Duron 1GHz and hit 55 seconds on second try. Time to bust out the old 8088 machine!

a word of caution guys;
Police are warning all men who frequent clubs, parties and local pubs to be alert and stay cautious when offered a drink from any woman. Many females use a date rape drug on the market called "Beer."
The drug is found in liquid form and is available anywhere. It comes in bottles, cans, or from taps and in large "kegs". Beer is used by female sexual predators at parties and bars to persuade their male victims to go home and sleep with them. A woman needs only to get a guy to consume a few units of Beer and then simply ask him home for no strings attached sex.
Men are rendered helpless against this approach. After several beers, men will often succumb to the desires to sleep with horrific looking women whom they would never normally be attracted. After drinking beer, men often awaken with only hazy memories of exactly what happened to them the night before, often with just a vague feeling that "something bad" occurred.
At other times these unfortunate men are swindled out of their life's savings, in a familiar scam known as "a relationship." In extreme cases, the female may even be shrewd enough to entrap the unsuspecting male into a longer term form of servitude and punishment referred to as "marriage." Men are much more susceptible to this scam after beer is administered and sex is offered by the predatory females.
Please! Forward this warning to every male you know. If you fall victim to this "Beer" scam and the women administering it, there are male support groups where you can discuss the details of your shocking encounter with similarly victimized men. For the support group nearest you, just look up "Golf Courses" in the phone book.

http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/java/scienceopticsu/powersof10/index.html
Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida has put up a very interesting page on their site. It begins as a view of the Milky Way Galaxy viewed from a distance of 10 million light years and then Zooms in towards Earth in powers of ten. 10 million, to one million, to 100,000 light years and then it finally reaches a large Oak tree. If ever there was a witness to creation, these folks have captured it for our viewing pleasure! Once you click on the site, the software does all the work. Sit back and imagine how perfect our universe is! You can play it forward and backward to be amazed over and over. At the end it says AUTO.... click on that and review the process in reverse!

Vision Test
-If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink. -If you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to green. -Now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture. After a short period of time, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a green dot rotating.
It's amazing how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't disappear.

I just couldn't find the right thread to put this in, so I am putting it in here. You put in your zip code and it kicks out a list and map of local gas station prices. Handy to find the cheapest gas around.
http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=12345
Here is a blurb at the bottom of the page: *MSN Autos strives to bring you the most up-to-date gas prices possible. However, we do not receive prices every day from every station. Our partner, OPIS, obtains pricing data from participating credit card transactions, direct feeds from participating retail chains, and other survey methods. Please note that during times of extreme price volatility, these collection methods may trail the latest prices at some stations.

New Rule: Stop saying that teenage boys who have sex with their hot, blonde teachers are permanently damaged. I have a better description for these kids: Lucky bastards.
New Rule: If you need to shave and you still collect baseball cards, you're a dope. If you're a kid, the cards are keepsakes of your idols. If you're a grown man, they're pictures of men.
New Rule: Ladies, leave your eyebrows alone. Here's how much men care about your eyebrows: do you have two of them? Okay, we're done.
New Rule: There's no such thing as flavored water. There's a whole aisle of this crap at the supermarket, water, but without that watery taste. Sorry, but flavored water is called a soft drink. You want flavored water? Pour some scotch over ice and let it melt. That's your flavored water.
New Rule: Stop screwing with old people. Target is introducing a redesigned pill bottle that's square, with a bigger label. And the top is now the bottom. And by the time grandpa figures out how to open it, his ass will be in the morgue. Congratulations, Target, you just solved the Social Security crisis.
New Rule: The more complicated the Starbucks order, the bigger the a*sshole. If you walk into a Starbucks and order a "decaf grande half-soy, half-low fat, iced vanilla, double-shot, gingerbread cappuccino, extra dry, light ice, with one Sweet-n'-Low, and one NutraSweet," ooh, you're a huge a*sshole.
New Rule: I'm not the cashier! By the time I look up from sliding my card, entering my PIN number, pressing "Enter," verifying the amount, deciding, no, I don't want cash back, and pressing "Enter" again, the kid who is supposed to be ringing me up is standing there eating my Almond Joy.
New Rule: Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it doesn't make you spiritual. It's right above the crack of your ass. And it translates to "beef with broccoli." The last time you did anything spiritual, you were praying to God you weren't pregnant. You're not spiritual. You're just high.
New Rule: Competitive eating isn't a sport. It's one of the seven deadly sins. ESPN recently televised the U.S. Open of Competitive Eating, because watching those athletes at the poker table was just too damned exciting. What's next, competitive farting? Oh wait. They're already doing that. It's called "The Howard Stern Show."
New Rule: I don't need a bigger mega M&Ms If I'm extra hungry for M&Ms, I'll go nuts and eat two.
New Rule: If you're going to insist on making movies based on crappy, old television shows, then you have to give everyone in the Cineplex a remote so we can see what's playing on the other screens. Let's remember the reason something was a television show in the first place is that the idea wasn't good enough to be a movie.
New Rule: No more gift registries. You know, it used to be just for weddings. Now it's for babies and new homes and graduations from rehab. Picking out the stuff you want and having other people buy it for you isn't gift giving, it's the white people version of looting.
New Rule: and this one is long overdue: No more bathroom attendants. After I zip up, some guy is offering me a towel and a mint like I just had sex with George Michael. I can't even tell if he's supposed to be there, or just some freak with a fetish. I don't want to be on your web cam, dude. I just want to wash my hands.
New Rule: When I ask how old your toddler is, I don't need to know in months. "27 Months." "He's two," will do just fine. He's not a cheese. And I didn't really care in the first place.
New Rule: If you ever hope to be a credible adult and want a job that pays better than minimum wage, then for God's sake don't pierce or tattoo every available piece of flesh. If so, then plan your future around saying "Do you want fries with that?

ACLU Files Lawsuit Against Kris Kringle (a.k.a. - Santa Claus, St. Nick, St. Nicholaus, Papa Noel)
CHICAGO - The American Civil Liberties Union announced today that it was bringing a lawsuit against Santa Claus for violations of the civil rights of children. An ACLU spokesman, Mr. E. Scrooge stated that, “Mr. Claus has been violating children’s right to privacy and has been putting that information in a vast database. The information is then used by the law enforcement arm of Mr. Claus’ organization to determine which children are considered naughty or nice. It is obvious Mr. Claus has violated the children’s rights, as we have alleged in our suit, because of the memos and other company information we have obtained. In addition, we believe Mr. Claus has been engaging in mind control experiments designed to prevent the free expression of beliefs.”

I got 56. I missed Arizona, Delaware (I would've missed it anyway), Indiana, and Hawaii.
I was interrupted with about 5:30 remaining and 47 states named. I minimized the screen, thinking that would "pause" it, but it didn't. When I came back I had about 2:00 left.
I think it took me almost a full minute to spell Massachusetts correctly.

2007 State Easter Eggs The 2007 Easter Egg Collection continues the tradition that began in 1994 where each state sends a decorated egg to the White House for display. Artists from across the United States created the decorated eggs, which represent each state and the District of Columbia. Each year the artists vote amongst themselves to select the artist to create the following year's commemorative egg which is presented to the President and First Lady. The collection is coordinated by the American Egg Board.

couple vid clips of motorcycle LEOs in riding competitions. First one is Jap cops and the second one is US cops.
I thought these a great job of 2 specific things:
1) illustrates how manueverable a "big" bike is, once you learn how to ride the things.. 2) MSF (Motorcycle Safety Fouondation) courses, stress the notion of "looking where you want the bike to go vs where its pointed". Watch the Officers heads when they are in the tight turns. They have their eyes almost 90 degrees to the direction of travel.

This is either going to show how childish I am, or people will also think it's hilarious. There is a new movie coming out in August called "Superbad," and they have an R-rated trailer (be careful where you open it, as there are swear words): Superbad. I saw the PG-13 trailer at Knocked Up last week and thought the movie looked okay, but the R-rated trailer makes it a must see movie in my mind. It could be a classic. Keep in mind, I have the maturity of a 15 year old, if that.

Pirates of the Cove
Anyone else ever play this? I signed up yesterday and have been screwing around. Pretty simple game, but tons of things to do. I've gotten my butt kicked a few times, but have done a little kicking with a pet I bought and trained. I still haven't figured everything out yet, but it's been a fun time waster.
If you do sign up to check it out (no spam emails, btw) when you get started go to explore and then explore port. I suggest about 5 steps at a time until you get enough money to buy a treasure chest. Then put everything in the chest before you explore more. The tavern wench kept stealing my money until I figured that out. Also, don't be afraid to try and rob her. Sure, she might chase you but lots of people will try to rescue you.

Pinch Hitter 2
Here's a fun game for baseball enthusiasts.
There are 11 levels and you must reach a goal to advance.
I have completed the game and know two things:
Passng level nine is frustrating, but level ten is enjoyable.
I wonder who will reach level ten first amongst the gang.

I finally got past level 9 myself. The key is not only hitting homers, but not hitting outs. I wimped out with over 20K points and 2AB left and just let them strike me out so I could make it to 10. That is a fun level. I played small ball to beat level 10 the first time, just going wherever there were no fielders.

I should've said something a long time ago. On my third game after posting that I got them on the first two pitches I saw. All that "practice" made me a good contact hitter, though; I breezed through Little League No K's or Outs.

It only took me about eight games to get back-to-backs in Little League.
On to level nine! (I scored 21,000 +/- in my first attempt to go back-to-back in level eight.)

Almost all my hits are to right, as well. I tried crowding the plate to pull some to left and hit mostly "swinging bunts." I've had the ignominy of recording scores of 3, 1, and even a 0 that way.
My second homerun on level 9 (in game one, no less) was a bomb to straight-away centerfield. I haven't got close to 20K yet, though. I'm going to give it rest for the weekend.

I go back to the earlier ones as well, and level 2 is tough. Whenever I can, I crowd the plate the pull the ball. Also, if you keep your bat a little high, you'll hit more grounders than anything. Don't worry about the flashing "2X" in that level either--it is just a distraction.

It appears it needs to land and stay on the green (ie, not roll onto the green). But it still isn't consistent. If they clap, it counts.

I love "Find the Star" but I am stuck. Stage 40 just doesn't seem to work. In all of the other puzzles, the arrow turns into a hand somewhere, but not Stage 40. I don't know how you can "do" anything unless you have the hand. WTF?

For 41, I suspect there is 1 single pixel on the dress that the star is hidden behind, but I just can't find it yet. I also have no way to validate this, just a hunch.
And for 61, yeah, I lined them up so they would form a star if they fell to the ground. But nothing happened. I even used the rectangle to angle the points. I've tried them in multiple configurations. Nothing.
I have all the rest of the original set of puzzles. Out of the ? marks thave I've unlocked I've gotten all but 47 (sorry, tone def and no musical talent. I have no clue how to play twinkle twinkle little star).

WiddleAvi - I have been addicted to the game for a month. I like the game for the play pace and the different strategies. Power-ups can be either favorable or unfavorable, depending on the circumstances.
I have found in the later levels that I needed luck getting certain power-ups at the right time to pass to the next level.
Oh, level 29 was the first real stumbling block for me. There are plenty more. ;)
You may find yourself saying, "This can't get any more difficult!?!?" And it does.
51 will take some practice.
58 will keep you on your toes.
64 will need the luck of a few power-ups.
65 will make sure you have good aim while praying to the bubble gods for extra time.
66 well test your walking skills. ;)
I have been struggling with the last level (72) for the past week.
Good luck, WiddleAvi, may the bubbles be with you.

Have you ever sat on a plane, next to an irritating seatmate who keeps talking to you, snooping at everything you read? Next time, follow these instructions:
1. Quietly and calmly open up your laptop case. 2. Remove your laptop, and open it. 3. Start up. 4. Make sure the guy annoying you can see the screen. 5. Close your eyes and tilt your head up to the sky. Take a very deep breath... 6. Then hit this link

*** Warning ***
Another addicting game.
Chain Factor
How do you play Chain Factor? Use your mouse to drop discs into the grid. Make discs disappear by having their number match the size of their row or column.
When exactly do discs disappear? Whenever the number on a disc matches the size of the row (horizontal group) or column (vertical group) that disc is in, it will disappear.
Do you count all the discs in the row or only the ones that are touching? You don't count all the discs in the row, just the ones in a connected group. Obviously, in columns, all the discs are always touching.
Do you count gray discs? Yes, gray discs count just like number discs towards determining the size of the row or column.
How do you get rid of gray discs? Every gray disc is actually a number disc underneath the surface. Whenever any disc disappears next to a gray disc, it grinds it down one level, eventually transforming it into a regular number disc.
Also, the game creators were inventive -- they had an internet scavenger hunt/code puzzle to unlock powers for the power game. (All the powers are unlocked, now. Click the forums link on top of the Chain Factor page for the problem solving and code entry threads.) Maybe they will have another web hunt with their next game.
Why are some powers locked? How do I unlock them? Chain Factor is an experiment in collaborative problem solving. If you want to unlock the powers you will need to find the 36 keys. The keys are public secrets, hidden in plain sight among the visual trash of today's marketing-mad culture. Each power has 3 locks that need to be opened. Unlock a power and it becomes available for everyone.
My Basic Game high score is 181,288.
My Power Game high score is 301,002.
Good luck.

The object of the game is to move the red block around without getting hit by the blue blocks or touching the black walls.
If you can go longer than 18 seconds you are phenomenal. It's been said that the US Air Force uses this for fighter pilots. They are expected to go for at least 2 minutes.
Give it a try but be careful...it is addictive!!

Start out with all 5 of the $200 guns in a row up and down the middle of the second zig-zag. After 2 rounds you get $600 and buy a cannon. I usually place it near the end. There is a twisted turn that has road on 3 sides of it. Place it in the middle of that road. From there, you start to buy the $200 cannons and line the inside of the long runs (use the inside, due to their range, they get the tanks going up 1 side and down the other, quite effective).
Occassionaly buy a $600 cannon and always put them on the inside of turns to make the maximum use of their range. Towards the beginning and middle you want as many of the $200 guns as possible and none of the $600 guns. This because the $600 guns blow up the heavy slow tanks too fast and the really fast moving cars on level 7 get thru too quick (the slow moving tanks slow them down so the $200 cannons blow them up early. Then use all the $600 guns and a bunch of the $200 guns at the end for heavy hitting. I found its best to ignore the $400 guns.

I got close to passing level 10. One trick is that if you have money you can buy in middle of the round. The more cannons you buy in a round the less stuff gets through and the more points you get. I buy only 200 cannons until round 7. Then I start getting 400 and 600 as fast as I can buy them.

Beat it. Yes, you do have to buy guns in the middle of the round constantly and place strategically. I used Khahan's method at first, but then started adding canons at the very front as well. The speed demons are the only real problem. If you have enough firepower at the very front and the very back, you'll be okay. I stacked the middle with the light cannons.

Couldn't decide where to really put this, but this is pretty damn cool.
Ever want to do a "panorama" picture shot, but most tools blow when it comes times to using them to "stitch" them together?
A buddy just showed me this: Autostitch
Free for non-commercial use. No install, just a small EXE. Run it, select the photos you want stitched together. Nothing else to do. It spits out what it can.
I did a 9 picture mix I did hanging out of my window of my backyard. I came out just amazing.
Anyway, thought I'd share.
