Subject: New TV shows

  Posted by: blue hen - Leader [710321114] Mon, Oct 16, 2006, 13:13

There are a lot of TV shows around there. Thanks to TiVo, I spend time watch these instead of Aqua Teen Hunger Force or replays of WNBA basketball. My rotation includes:

Monday: How I Met Your Mother, The Class, Studio 60
Tuesday: Friday Night Lights
Wednesday: 30 Rock
Thursday: The Office, Til Death, Six Degrees
Friday: Psych

I also gave The Nine a shot but wasn't moved. The two best are clearly Six Degrees and How I Met Your Mother.

What shows are you guys watching?

Lost is still spectacular, as is Prison Break.

Heroes has been really fun to watch, and i'm enjoying the heck out of Jericho.

i've also give The Nine a shot, and it's interesting, but it really better do something to grab me in the next few episodes.

Jericho also had an interesting premise. Is it any good?

The best thing about Six Degrees is the interplay of characters who don't know each other. Like Carlos and Caseman yelling at each other in the bar. If anything, this show could use a little more complexity - take some of these random characters and have them walk by each other on the street. That would help along the idea of these people being total strangers.

I watched Singles last night. Steve Dunn (in Singles) is the same actor who plays Steven Caseman (in Six Degrees). Interestingly enough, Caseman is a role that Dunn could reasonable be expected to have 20 years later. If only he could get a visit from Bailey the Maitre'd.

My Name Is Earl didnt make the list?

Last night I added How I met your mother to my tivo list.

Studio 60 is pretty good!

And of course, new season of south park started 2 weeks ago.

And some personal addictions - Deal or No Deal, Survivor, Mythbusters.

i've enjoyed Jericho. at times, it's a bit cliche, but i like the backdrop of small town politics and "everybody knows everybody else" sort of stuff going on.

The Office is hilarious. I love to see comedies that don't have a laughtrack, and this one is great.

High Stakes Poker and the LA Poker Scene are pretty much the only other two shows I watch. I should probably re-think my cable TV package...

There was some special on Comedy Central last night (re-airs Tuesday night I think) and it had the guy from the British Office on doing stand up. At the end he said thanks and that Steve Carrell would be out next, repeating his standup word for word. It was funny.

My favorte show is "24", in fact I think its the best show i've ever been on TV. Its cast, production quality, content, special effects and sound track are more "Movie Like" than any network show ever.

I also enjoy, Lost, Prison Break, The CSI and Law and Order series, and I love "My Name is Earl". It has a "Northern Exporsure" quality about it.

I also spend a lot of time on The History Channel, Discovery, Comedy Central, A & E and of course Fox Sports Detroit. I love the Best Damn Sports Show Period, now that Tom Arnold is gone!

Lost, Prison Break, Heroes, CSI & Jericho.

Survivor is just ok-having a hard time getting into the players.

Law & Order still rocks, as does ER.

I TIVO Shark & Nip Tuck.

The standard rotation now includes the following:
Heroes
Lost
Mythbusters
Numb3rs
Survivor
CSI:

Mixed in on occasion-
The Office (both versions)
My Name is Earl
Studio 60
Survivorman (I think there was only one season of this. It ran on Discovery Times as an hour long show and Discovery as a condensed 30 minute show)
Masterminds (CourtTV)
Dirty Jobs
Monk

The wife watches Project Runway. It ends tonight and I'll throw Top Chef into it's slot.

I also just added How I met Your Mother to my TIVO list, I've always loved Alyson Hannigan since Buffy and especially American Pie...

I also love CSI: Vegas, 24 and Prison Break...

I saw the last episode of last season's Entourage and it looked like it could be pretty good...

Katie, I agree about this season's Survivor, have seen anybody that I really hate or like yet. And I hate the whole Exile Island/hidden Idol twist...

BUT, my favorite new show has to be Dexter on SHO, very entertaining in a sick kind of way...

Based on this thread I recorded a two shows and watched them tonight. The Office is great. I am still laughing.
"What is (don't remember name)'s biggest fear?
"Umm, loneliness...or women."
"Wrong. The answer is nothing. He isn't afraid of anything. I would have also accepted snakes."

Someone is going to have to catch me up on Six Degrees. I watched tonight's show and enjoyed it, but it would be nice to get caught up a bit. How long has the show been on?

I searched for Til Death and couldn't find it. My Tivo also couldn't find Psych for tomorrow either.

Other shows I've recently started watching:
Heroes - I am liking this show more and more.
Jericho - Been okay so far.
Smith
Justice
Bones
Criminal Minds

And a couple shows I got hooked on last season:
Supernatural
The Unit
NCIS

I was into CSI (Vegas and NY, never cared for Miami) for a while, but I almost never have time to watch everything I record and end up deleting most of them. I've added Numb3rs to my record list and will check out some of the others as well. What night does The Nine come on? Same with My Name Is Earl?

The Nine comes on after Lost on Wednesdays.

Although it isn't a new show, anyone looking for a great show to watch, catch "The Wire" on HBO. It is not one of those shows you can catch one episode of though, you might want to start at the beginning. I read reviews giving it the highest score on TV and calling it the best show on TV. I gave it a shot and started at the first season and find the storytelling and acting to be among (if not) the best on television.

Though, not new, I like Cold Case on Sundays and Lost on

What shows are you guys watching?

Here's my weekly schedule:

Monday - Prison Break, 2-1/2 Men
Tuesday - O'Reilly Factor, Miami Ink (TiVo)
Wednesday - Jericho, Lost
Thursday - Survivor, CSI (Record Supernatural on the other TiVo)
Friday - Watch Supernatural and Miami Ink

This isn't a "new" show, but I've been watching 2-1/2 Men lately and that is a laugh riot.

I've noticed that HBO has the best originally programming. I'm way behind so I've been watching the Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, and Mr. Show on DVD. The Sopranos is the best television show IMHO. Every episode is a quality 60 minute movie.

The only 2 shows I watch when they air are Lost and 24.

What that at me? Surely you wouldn't suggest that O'Reilly is a comedy? :)

I've been meaning to try the new Neil Patrick Harris show, but I can't give up my Prison Break. I'll have to set the TiVo in my back bedroom to tape it there instead. It does look pretty good.

Once 24 comes back, then I'll be in a blissful state again with TV.

Add Heroes to the graveyard. I gave it up two weeks ago. And Six Degrees has been pushed back to January. I really hope they don't slot it at the same time as 24. And Studio 60 was actually really good last night (Nevada Day, Part II). Doesn't appear that it's going to get nixed too soon.

Schedule:
Mon: How I Met, The Class, Studio 60, (MNF)
Tue: Friday Night Lights
Wed: Jericho
Thu: The Office, Til Death, (Coll FB)
Sun: Simpsons, (get distracted during American Dad), Family Guy, War At Home

On Hold:
Six Degrees, 24, According To Jim, Entourage

Graveyard:
The Nine, 30 Rock, Heroes

Does anyone know what happened to Knights of Prosperity? The Mick Jagger one. Can't seem to find it...

The best piece of equipment ever as far as TV goes is the Dual DVR that Dish Network offers. With that I can record two shows at the same time. That allows a whole new opportunity when it comes to seeing competing shows that I want to see. Best of all it doesn't cost anymore than one DVR and you can watch different shows on different TVs with just one piece of equipment. There are two remotes you can use in other parts of the house that use radio frequencies so you don't have to be right in front of it to use. With the commercial skip capabilities, I generally don't watch a lot of things live as I can watch an hour show in about 40 mins or so. Or can start watching it late and catch up with live tv.

So here is what I have on my DVR
MON
8:00 both Prison Break and How I met your mother
8:30 The Class
9:00 two and a half men
9:30 old christine
10:00 stuido 60 and csi miami
TUES
ncis and house
WED
bones criminal minds csi ny
THURS
ugly betty 'till death 30 rock csi shark
FRI
vanised, close to home, las vegas, numbers, monk (psyched)
SAT
SNL
SUN
Amazing Race, cold case, w/o a trace

I'm in this Club Dish stuff and occassionally they send me gift cards to give to my friends to sign up for Dish Network. I have a couple of them if anyone is considering signing up for Dish Network that can save you $200 ($50 Activation waived, $50 credit on first bill, $100 off programming) and get free premimum movies for first 3 months, free DVR upgrade like what I have and other stuff. Email me for the gift card codes and info. I think it's only good for like 3-5 people and expires 1/31/07.

ref, I had Dish and the dual DVR was nice but also a pain in the ass....

Mainly, because if the DVR goes out, which mine did frequently, BOTH TVs are done, pretty much sucks when one of them is your main TV, and with the poor service Dish provides. We had to wait for a week twice for them to ship out the new DVR.

The ONLY thing I liked about Dish's dual DVR thing is that you can start a show on one TV and finish it on the other without recording the show on both DVRs like with DirecTV...

You sure it wasn't really porn...wait for it...wait for it...ogrophy! ;) After the office and family guy, I think HIMYM is the funniest on TV.

BTW, speaking of satellite DVRs, I have had DirectTV DVRs for close to 4 years now. I now have three boxes, two standard def "Tivo" boxes and one of their new Hi-Def units. Having the dual tuner features has been by far the biggest advantage. I realized last night that I had 5 items taping throughout the house at the same time. My wife had Housewives and some LMT movie going in the BR, I had the whole Sunday night Fox lineup taping in my office, and the Bulls-Lakers and SD-Den recording on the HD box. Wow! I normally would watch some of those games live, but since I was gone most of the afternoon, I was catching up on the three HD NFL games that had taped earlier in the day. Talk about time-shifting!

The new HD box has had some glitches here and there, but the recent software download has helped so far. It still is not as user friendly as their Tivo boxes IMO, but since DirecTV decided to sell new DVRs that they developed, you don't have any choice if you sign up now. Over the 4 years, I only had trouble with the original 35 hour unit after about a year when it started freezing. DTV replaced it an no cost and it has worked now for the last 3 years. I have had no trouble at all with the 70 hr unit, which I have had for 2.5 years.

That was a great episode of How I Met Your Mother. And how many of you went to myspace to see the entire video?

It was really telling to watch The Class followed by Studio 60 last night. Both shows have a lot of characters to follow. But I find that while I sympathize with almost all of the characters in The Class (except Richie, interestingly), I sympathize with almost none of the characters on Studio 60. The show is funny and mildly interesting, but I don't feel any connection to anyone except Matt (Matthew Perry) and perhaps Jordan (Amanda Peet - might just be because she's hot). The Nevada episode really illuminated this: I couldn't relate to the TV network exec who is forced to do a job that is beneath him. I mean, what is new and different about that - we all do it sometimes. The good guys aren't likeable enough and the bad guys aren't dislikeable enough. Last night was a good episode, but this show is not going to make it...

The Class, on the other hand, really gets a lot out of the characters. Sure, they have a serious sub-plot in what is supposed to be a funny show, but I really feel like each character is interesting and I want to see what they do next. Except Richie and Lina, perhaps.

Any times that "Perry" is on the screen it cracks me up. They are able to really do gay jokes in a good way, unlike how Will and Grace did it, at least in my POV.

Re: 38

Haven't had the first problem with the dual DVR. I love how I have one box and it controls the whole house (have three TVs mirrored on one) and can watch any show that is recorded from any TV at any time.

Speaking of "How I met.." that show is getting better and better, but having Neil Patrick Harris publicly come out of the closet lately does take a little away from his character, IMM. Then again, the guys on Will and Grace weren't gay IRL so it shouldn't matter. I just keep thinking...Doogie! Not that there's anything wrong with that! ;)

I really like the Class and even New Adventures of Old Christine. I record them all and then watch one while another one is recording. Can watch all the shows I want on Mon night on every channel and bed done right at about the time they are over irl. Two and a half men is hilarious as well. Never really got to see that much because always had something I liked better on another channel.

At least someone from the Seinfeld show is having some modicum of success. Not even going into "Kramer's" woes.

Studio 60 just isn't getting it done for me--yet amazingly I'm still watching it. I heard on the radio that it is on the axe list, but survived...barely. I like 30 Rock a lot better. Maybe I just like teh comedies a lot better than the dramas.

Show Me the Money is trying to be the sleaziest game show of all time (easily beating out Greed), with its "12 beautiful dancers". Past game shows would reveal a prize amount sort of mechanically. On the prize amount is unscrolled by one of 12 hot women who mostly stand around for the whole show, dancing at the beginning, for commercial breaks, and when someone wins. The basic premise is good -- few contestants will be able to run 6 right answers without hitting the "Killer" Card. I think the problem is Shatner as host. I know he's become popular with Boston Legal but really, he seems fat and punchdrunk, a beat behind all the time. The questions are mostly geared to contemporary pop culture.

After Show I hung around for Day Break and was hooked. It's Groundhog Day with lots of murder and side stories. I recommend it and believe you can get up to date by watching previous episodes on abc.com.
It's not too late to start watching but every week you haven't watched reduces the enjoyment of every future episode.

I just think it's a show with an expiry date on it -- you couldn't keep this level of intensity up for more than one year.

That was a pretty nice night of TV...

Day Break - My first episode. As noted, it's pretty good. Taye Diggs is quite good, so far. Interesting momentary flashbacks to things we've seen (a la Psych). I am eagerly awaiting next week.

The Class - This episode brought back most of the class for the first time since episode 1. It was quite funny, but I can see how an outsider would be lost if this was their first episode. Duncan is my favorite character.

Jericho (fall finale) - A great episode, and clearly a bunch of cliffhanging. They claim they're going to update the story online during the offseason. That should be fun. I want to know where Jonah went - he's got a better chance living on death row than outside of Jericho. Remember Rogue River?

Still have yesterday's Friday Night Lights to watch. Might have to wait till tomorrow.

Friday Night Lights - the last few episodes have gone downhill, fast. The coach, who is the best actor, gets featured less and less. Smash (the steroid-using RB) and Matt (the new QB) are pretty terrible and this week they had a bunch of scenes together. Ugh. And the wheelchair football game was pretty bad as well.

Studio 60 - still pretty bearable. Matthew Perry carries this show. But there are far too many characters with similar roles (and similar looks) to make this a hit. But it's watchable, for now. Nice way to create conflict this week (I won't spoil it).

RE: 52. need to set that up on my DVR. Might have conflicts though. Wait. Prison Break is off now so there is one hour (assuming it starts at 8 EST).

I haven't seen Vanished in awhile. Better check my recorded shows. I got hooked on that, but since the baseball ASG moved it from Mon folling Prison Break to Fridays, I've only seen it once or twice because it hasn't been on (or at least recorded). Weird.

There are a lot of shows I haven't seen the past 2-3 weeks because of time issues. Need to get caught up. Glad the DVR holds 100 hrs.!!!

Watched Friday Night Lights and Studio 60 last night. These two shows are definitely switching places fast.

I have lost all my sense of connection with just about every character on FNL:
- Coach used to be the new guy, and you wondered how he would fit in. Well, he won the big game and seems to fit in fine. He's irrelevant now.
- Matt (QB) used to be the underdog. But he won some games as well. And he got the girl. He's not charismatic enough when he's not the underdog, and now he's no longer the underdog.
- Jason (injured QB) used to be injured and you felt sorry for him. But now he's healthy enough to play wheelchair hoops, to take down Lyla's pictures, and to punch out Tim Riggins. Now he's just a guy, who isn't terribly interesting.
- Tim Riggins is the bad guy, who never wants to do anything except drink and cause trouble. That's his character now. Why should I care?
- Smash is using steroids because he's the underdog, but he has already had his big game, and isn't that interesting anyway.

Is there anyone else I should care about?

I had not watched Heroes all season because I am out on Mondays watching Monday Night Football with my buddies. But from my old "Buffy" circle and others I have been hearing a good buzz on this from almost everyone (that is, except blue hen above) so I stared catching up by watching the episodes online on the NBC.com website. Saw the first two last night and will probably watch all 11 over the next few weeks if it keeps up.

I assume it is going head-to-head with 24 come January, but the web rebroadcasts and a DVR, network time slot is less of an issue.

True blue hen, and they are different groups of people too.

What is interesting, is these sets of people offer the same bewilderment towards me about belonging to and interacting with a crowd of internet based fantasy sports fans.

Great comeback about 'interacting with a crowd of internet based fantasy sports fans', JeffG! My wife rolls her eyes every time I mention "one of my sports buddies and I......"

I too have ended up into "Heroes". The first one I saw was Episode 10, entitled "Six Months Ago", which goes back to the origins of the main villian and how the Heroes' destinies all start to come together. Then SciFi had a marathon so I had the first 6 on DVR, and last night I filled in the blanks, including the somewhat climactic "Homecoming" episode (#9) on NBC.com.

Anyway, it's of course a bit of an X-men ripoff, but the idea of it being genetic evolution vs. a "mutant gene" has my interest piqued. Plus Hiro is just one of the coolest characters on TV.

Species. My wife gets it, but I get a similar reaction from my friends regarding my internet interactions and fantasy football. I keep telling them, especially the ones who are really into sports, to check it out and they may get hooked, but the saying about old dogs and new tricks applies. In my office, all of my fantasy baseball and football league-mates are at least 10 years or more younger than me.

Back on topic...I am loving that the networks are giving viewers another chance to catch their offerings online. Some of the series that are hits today, are not necessarily ones you can pick up mid-season if you do not watch from the start (like Heroes or 24), or tough to even to join the bandwagon if you did not watch from the beginning (like Lost).

I first heard a real buzz about Lost about 6 episodes into it's first season, but had no way of catching up, so I never caught the craze. With Heroes, I can catch up via the web 11 episodes in (My wife just did the same with "Ugly Betty", which she watches not via network tv, but exclusively on ABC's website since Survivor is up against it, and I usually am taping Earl/Office on the DVR).

Show Me The Money is allright. The contestant on the other night was a real testicle, but Shatner is a laugh riot especially when he's within 100 yards of a woman.

I first heard a real buzz about Lost about 6 episodes into it's first season, but had no way of catching up, so I never caught the craze.

We have a seperate LOST thread so if you get into it when it returns in February I'm sure a bunch of us would be happy to catch you up to speed. It's a great show and my personal favorite with 24 a VERY close second.

They HAVE to offer it up online, or else we'll TiVo it, bitTorrent it, etc and not look at their commercials. Interestingly, the NBC and CBS ones don't work for me at work (although, of course, the ABC one does) and the CBS one, which appears to have interesting extra content as well, doesn't work at home either. I haven't been able to watch any of the extra Jericho content or the How I Met behind the scenes.

Wednesday Shows
1/3 According To Jim
1/3 Knights of Prosperity

TB, agreed about the women on the show, just his sister is the #1 offender. Every time she says F--- it almost sounds forced...

BH, I thought In Case of Emergency was over the top a bit, but watching Kelly Hu is going to make me give it one more shot...

For some reason, Knights didn't record so since it got at least one good review, I will go check it out on ABC.com...

Also, Entourage Season 1 is finally being rebroadcast so I am going to check out the other episodes...

I agree Skidazl. I hate looking at her and hate hearing her even more. It's one thing for a woman to toss out an occasional f-bomb, but it's quite another when she is constantly vulgar and tries to act like a tough dude. It would have been much nicer if she ended up as frozen chunks of beef.

I actually liked that Andy Richter show. 30 Rock is taking a hit too...(from tvguide.com)

NBC Subtracts 60 and 30 in March

A fresh release from NBC, cementing the plans to shelve Studio 60 as well as 30 Rock (!), to make room for two new series:

"NBC's new mid-season drama The Black Donnellys will premiere on Monday, March 5 (10-11 pm/ET) — following the hit drama Heroes — while the new comedy Andy Barker, P.I., starring Andy Richter, will debut on Thursday, March 15 (9:30-10 pm).

"Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip will return later this season on a date to be determined. 30 Rock will return... with original episodes on April 19, after Andy Barker completes its slate of episodes" and Alec Baldwin's SAG Award gathers a good inch of dust.

I've queued up Rules and Sarah Silverman to add to my current slate. I agree the first Silverman show was not great, but it was pretty much what I expected. I will probably keep watching regardless since she is my fav female comic (actually there are only about 3 out there that I find funny). Any fans of hers will remember the Greg the Bunny show that had a short run a few years ago, but got little support and apparently was not a fav of critics. I have been enjoying it on HDNet and wish there were more episodes.

Anyone else watch the TBS series My Boys that premeired in the fall? I still have not gotten around to watching them all (it had a compressed 13 episode run) but I have them all TIVO'd when I get some time. I love Jim Gaffigan as a comic, but am still neutral on the show. He did a couple of the Sierra Mist commercials in the SB (think beard combover), but he is def better as a stand-up. Of course, there are the Conan "Pale Force" episodes, but most of you probably haven't seen those!

My thoughts on Rules:

Puddy is still funny, David Spade is really short, and the fiance chick is pretty hot.

It had its funny moments for sure, but I have to think I have seen this show format many times over. Let's see, two couples and a single "playa" type...that's already on at 8pm on the same network. I doubt Rules will come as close to How I Met... in the funny, but I hope it doesn't try to follow the same script. We'll know it is true if Spade "comes out" at any point during the season! ;)

How I Met Your Mother was spectacular last night, but I'd like to have seen an increased role for the all-time leading rusher.

Interesting that Jerry Rice was on The Class - a far superior cameo, in my opinion. What to Emmitt and Jerry have in common? Oh yeah, they were both on Dancing With The Stars.

Heroes was VERY good last night.....it's too bad if some here got disinterested because the way things continue to intertwine between the characters is very interesting.....and like "Lost" it's hard to go back once you've missed part of the season.

The second version of the Sarah Silverman Program had a few laughs and wasn't horrible, but I think I have to let this one go.

What is Heroes all about? I've heard very little on it? If I started watching it now would I be lost? My guess would be yes.

I have so many shows I record as it is that I can't get to all of them. But with the dual DVR, I am able to usually fit in a couple extra shows in about the same time period if I watch it live. My thinking is that if the show is that good and is not on at a time when I'm already recording two shows then I can watch it whenever there are repeats or even this Spring after the main shows are done as I have 100 hours of recording time.

Ref - you could probably hop in right now, but might very well be lost.

however, i think if you go to the website, you can watch the past episodes online.

it's basically a stylized, comic-book oriented world where some people are beginning to discover they have "powers". some are becoming heroes, some are becoming villians.

all seem to be struggling with their new powers, which creates for some interesting stories and back stories.

the show also seems to have no problem killing off seemingly important major characters, as well as introducing new ones 7 or 10 or 12 episodes into the series.

one of the four dramas i don't miss, along with Lost, Jericho, and Prison Break.

Mon 3am

I have alot to catch up on from last night, haven't watched Earl, Office, Scrubs, Survivor, Sarah Silverman Program (although I did see her on Leno last night!)

I did however have to at least pay attention to The O.C. last night. One of my former roommates was in it as one of the pregnant girls (the brunette one) in a gym or something. Probably the first and last time I ever watch that show unless she's in it again.

I also don't miss CSI (the 1st one) and Survivor.

Is anyone watching Dirt? It is too weird for words.

I watch Dirt. I'm not sure why - I think it's mostly because I want to still be watching when Jennifer Aniston shows up in late March.

This week's episode was much more bearable than last week's head-in-a-jar. There are only two compelling characters for me - Holt and Lucy. Of course, now they're intertwined, but those are really the only two I have any interest in watching.

Somehow, Pee Wee Herman keeps finding his way onto Prime Time television. I have to say, he was much better on Dirt than he was on 30 Rock.

Anyone else think this episode of The Office was less funny and more astonishing.

Yes! There are always those 1-2 moments each episode where I squirm, but last night's was ridiculous. The wedding speech, the father upstaging him, blurting out "Let me be the first to announce" twice, and on and on. Still a good episode, though, the wedding crashers bit ("grizzly bears can attack at any time") and the Pavlov's dogs breathmint experiment were quality. Then again, anything with Jim and Dwight is comedic gold. Gold!

Legge, I am so glad you said this, "Yes! There are always those 1-2 moments each episode where I squirm" because I often wonder if I am the only person who becomes uncomfortable watching characters on a make-believe program. I know it's supposed to be outrageous and unbelieveable at times, and yes mostly funny, but The Office takes it up another notch now and then. It's still very high up on my Tivo list.

2 1/2 Men is my clear cut favorite comedy right now. Tonight was hilarious again. How I Met Your Mother is a close second. Rules of Engagement had a good second episode. Patrick Warburton is the funniest guy on the show.

I would have to agree. Somehow they've got to do a crossover with Barney and Charlie or have Barney tolerate Allen for an episode. That would be sweet.

last night's Heroes was an astonishing hour of television. it was simply so well done, and totally full of what i refer to as "holy $hit!" moments.

Lost had a number of those during the first two seasons, and prison break has been much the same. along with Jericho, i feel like i'm watching four shows that constantly twist and turn and take me along a fantastic rollercoaster ride.

It's too bad people jumped off of Heroes, it's definitely my favorite new show and in the top 3 overall. That image of Claire coming out of the house was nasty (although the one of her being autopsied was even nastier!)......but quite simply it is great storyline progression.

Obviously the great thing about Heroes is that the possibilities are nearly endless. New Heroes, new powers, people turning evil, government conspiracies, it can really go places....the writers/producers just need to keep the human element alive and not get so entirely wrapped up in the powers.

What has made this show so good so far has been the character development - they have made so many of these characters so likeable, sympathetic and vulnerable that you can't help but feel connected to them. Peter is especially captivating to me in that way....even Sprague as a fringe character engenders sympathy because he loved his wife so much.

The only "bummer" thing is that it's kind of an X-men takeoff....but if they keep the characters so sympathetic perhaps they'll carve their own place in the genre.

How I Met Your Mother turned in another great episode. I think most of us can relate to having that first car or a car that goes to that many miles and the attachment you have with it. It's how I feel about my car now. My wife was making fun of me because I have Marshall's rule about no food or drink being allowed in my car.

Barney was excellent, as usual.

I agree with you guys about Heroes. The twists and turns have been brilliant. Hiro and Claire together on the rooftop as kids. Hiro's Dad being a bigwig in the whole "Let's kill special people secret organization." That scene where she came out of the house all radiated, face-melting, Skeletor-looking and then healed before our eyes. Whew. How about Claire's Dad, who I've wanted to punch in the face several episodes, turning out to be not quite what we expected? We didn't see Silar this week, but that plot twist is about as creepy as I've seen on a TV show. Did you see the preview for next week where Simone is alive and asks if he (Isaac) wants to shoot her again? Great show.

Monday night is my favorite night to Tivo:
Heroes, How I Met Your Mother, The Class, Two and a Half Men, and Rules of Engagement

Other than Heroes on NBC, CBS seems to have all my favorite shows. All four of the comedies above, plus NCIS and The Unit on Tuesday and then Jericho on Wednesday. I am a little burned out on the investigative shows right now, but I think CSI and Criminal minds are both CBS as well. I still Tivo Shark as well and think that is CBS.

I've never watched or gotten into Lost or Prison Break so am not sure what channel they come on. I did watch about 2 1/2 seasons of 24 and the first few episodes of this season before I gave up on it. It seems to get more and more rediculous as it goes on. All the characters make me mad, the time-lines are unbelievable, the constant back-stabbing is troubling not to mention the people who change allegiance which is immediately accepted, the John Wayne bravado gets tiring especially when it continues to create a bigger problem more often than not, and the 23 hours of bumbling while the "criminals" are always one step ahead of the "good guys" gets my blood up. Man, I can go on and on. Sutherland always panting in his whisper-speech, someone always getting kidnapped and forcing CTU (or a solo John Wayne at CTU) to give in to their demands, the President dealing directly with CTU on an hourly basis, Division always walking around CTU demanding updates and wanting to relieve people. My son refused to be in the same room with me while I watched it because I would vent at it. I quit watching so I wouldn't have a heart attack. Biting someone on the neck and killing them in the vampire death grip, being addicted to heroine and almost shooting up then 15 minutes later being in total control, shooting another agent in the head and giving his body over because it was a terrorist demand, man I just can't stop. I swear, if I had a mini-recorder with me during the show someone would try to have me committed if they heard my rantings.

I still like 24. Sure, it's gotten hokey, but you can still follow it. You just have to accept some of the truths TB listed.

Friday Night Lights is easily my favorite right now. It's so simple, but it drags me in. And let's be honest: it's not about sports.

Psych is a clear second. I could watch this show every night.

Last week's Jericho has me excited for the new season. And I'm on board with the other CBS shows (the comedies, How I Met Your Mother and The Class).

Studio 60 was great, although I think it's about to get canned. Knights of Prosperity is holding my interest, for now. And Dirt has exactly 5 more episodes to draw me in or I'm gone.

I've watched every Studio 60 show and every time I get done watching it I am asking myself WHY?!?! Seems like it's dumber every week. Got hooked on the premiere and have been disappointed since.

Rules of Engagement is hilarious. Christine comes back Monday. The Class is very funny as well. Monday is by far the best night for TV IMM. CBS and Fox have it nailed. Fortunately I'm able to tape both networks at the same time or I'd miss all the CBS stuff except when Prison Break skips a week like next week.

Monk and Psyched rock! Monk won't return until the summer after the finale last week. Psyched has three more episodes before it's hiatus I guess. When does The Closer come back?

I'm pissed that Heroes is taking another break! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

The Sylar vs. Peter faceoff was inevitable. Obviously Sylar will not be successful nor has he, you have to assume, killed Mohinder. Sylar's air of superiority is obviously going to hinder him in any "battle" vs. Peter as he won't really know what Peter can pull from his bag of tricks.

Adding Linderman to the whole "Company" conspiracy thing was obvious.....the fact that Mrs. Petrelli was connected and aware of Claire and stuff was not so obvious, although thinking back Nathan/Peter's Dad connected to Linderman means he could have been very connected to the "Company" as well.

Glad they got 'the bomb' back into the picture with Hiro/Ando's teleporting there.....the story had kind of swayed from that fairly defining moment for a while (although rightfully so).

It just sucks we have to wait 6-odd weeks! Booooooooo.

There's talk of canceling How I Met Your Mother. Obviously, that would be about the worst thing that could happen to prime time television right now. I mean, we need to meet their mother, right?

Also not renewed yet: Friday Night Lights, Jericho, and The Class. I think I've resigned myself to never seeing another episode of the class, but it would be pretty terrible to never see another Dillon Pather game or to watch a town struggle for electricity.

There is no way CBS could be dumb enough to cancel HIMYM!!!!

I've been trying to get into a couple of these other new shows:

Andi Barker, PI - Watched the first two episodes so far...I like Andy Richter, but this may be a little far fetched. I'll give it a few more chances

Raines - Just watched the first episode online, and tivo'd the second. I really like Jeff Goldblum, and I liked the first episode. So I'm gonna keep this one on my to be tivo'd list for sure.

The Black Donnelly's - It hasn't been bad, but it hasn't really got me hooked yet

Surprised no comments yet on Soprano's last night. I don't think the final 8 can ever meet the expectations to wind this down (ala MASH and Seinfeld), but it was interesting. It's enough to keep the audience through the end. I could do without all the childhood psycho analysis crapola, but I suspect that will be tbe main theme through the end.

My wish list for the ending: Meadow takes over the Family

The fight between Tony and Bobby was classic. The best part was how Tony had the hotel stuck on his face. It was interesting though. With only 9 episodes left I thought they would just pursue all the other storylines which they really built up during the first half of the season(NJ vs NY, Tony vs Chris, Carmella learning more about Adrianna) instead of starting new stories(although not much happened except tension increasing between Tony and Janice/Bobby). Looks like Phil Leotardo gets back in the mix next week. Can't wait.

PS - The Black Donnellys is on a hiatus which I guess means it's pretty much done for good.

I cannot get enough of The Sopranos and don't understand comments like "it sucked." The show is just tops in terms of writing and acting like every week.

Entourage has not jumped at all. Freakin Ari (Jeremy) was on fire in episode #3. He ruled. Everyone else is almost secondary. E (Eric) I could do without, but he's the foil for the other 3. Carla Gugino is very hot. Jeremy Piven is right up there with Rainn Wilson for creating a very memoral character that will endure.

Regarding the Sopranos. Give me more mob stuff, less of the rest. When there is less mob related stuff in the more recent Sopranos episodes, to me it is not as fun to watch. Yes, the acting is very good, but personally, I can live without Tony's sister, wife, and kids. I can live without the scenes with Melfi. I'd be loving life if we did not have to deal with another 20 minutes of hospital scenes (last week's Johnny Sack episode). I can live without dream sequences like when Tony was in a coma.

When each episode ends, the scenes previews for the next eposide is predominantly mob only stuff, so they know what keeps the viewers interested.

In the older seasons where there was less of this other stuff, the show was much better IMO.

Yeah, I like the mob stuff, too, Jeff, but it's the whole picture ("the family") that makes the show go. The drama with this kid or that relative, etc. Without the whole family thing, and Melfi (the two being the genesis of the series), then it's just another mob movie. All this is my opinion and preference, of course.

Corrado's letter to Dick Cheney was hilarious. This episode may have been his swan song. He should be gone soon. Some people were mentioning on another message board that the crazy Asian guy was a weird coincidence with the whole Virginia Tech shooting and that the song playing even said the word Virginia when he was beating Junior down.

Those scenes with Paulie and Tony on the boat were pretty intense, especially when Tony was looking around and all he saw were weapons. The return of Pussy Bonapariaso was also welcome.

A bunch of Godfather references lately with Junior and the cat, Tony talking about the Tomato plants and the scene with tony and Bobby in the boat.

I think Chase is creating a case for Tony to see the negatives in almost every character (Paulie, Chris, Bobby) while also setting up a NY-NJ war, Tony's $ problems, and then there's gotta be some kinda family crisis with either AJ or Meadow a comin'.

Definitely not new but I've been going through season 2 of Twin Peaks and the show is ridiculously good. Unfortunately I knew who the killer was beforehand but it's still great. This show has the quirkiest and weirdest characters ever. I bought the first season(only 7 episodes) on DVD a couple months ago for $35 and since it's gone out of print and could be found on Amazon and ebay for around $160. J - well you should have already seen that Sylar has been impersonating Nathan Petrelli for a while (years?? Since 'the bomb'??), using Janice's morphing power that he must have taken. So Peter tells 'Nathan' "Who are you? My brother doesn't have the power to walk through walls" - and Sylar morphs back into Sylar. Peter says he'll make Sylar pay for impersonating Nathan and Sylar makes his hands glow light blue like when Sprague used his power to "burn bright" like an EMP. At the same time Peter makes his hands glow orange like Sprague's nuclear powers.

At this point Mohinder is trying to keep the door shut as this "battle" goes on. He is struggling against the door being thrown open by the forces of whatever Peter and Sylar are doing, and you see extremely bright flashes of orange and blue light. Mohinder is yelling at the 'geeky' Hiro to use his power to transport them back. Hiro says he can't.....but Ando tells him he believes in him and gives him the sword, and they indeed teleport back to the 'present day'.

Hiro is energized by the site of NYC still standing and that he was successful in teleporting. He is armed with the unpublished issue of "9th Wonders", showing him shoving his sword into Sylar as the episode ends.

====================

Some things I've wondered since Heroes returned:

- Bennet knows that Peter is supposed to be the bomb. Yet when Parkman and Sprague help him escape Primatech, is Bennet really that stupid to take Sprague to New York where he obviously comes in contact with Peter to where Peter can absorb his power?!? If that contact never existed then Peter should never explode.

- In the fight described above, why on earth doesn't Peter just stop time and kill Sylar? Why a grandiose fight?

that was awesome, thanks Species...

My other question is, what was with Peter's scar on his face in the future? He can heal!!!!

And the reason he doesn't stop time to kill Sylar is either that Peter doesn't have that power yet? Or thats just too easy and would make for bad tv :)

My other question is, what was with Peter's scar on his face in the future? He can heal!!!!

my guess is that in the heat of the explosion, the open wound was cauterized, and thusly didn't close properly. basically, the cauterization happened before the healing.

And the reason he doesn't stop time to kill Sylar is either that Peter doesn't have that power yet? Or thats just too easy and would make for bad tv :)

Syler is indestructable. even if time is stopped. remember, he has the power of a cockroach now.

Peter did have the ability to stop time, as seen with the Future-Hiro and Ando rescue.

Ms Fluid and I were also wondering what the scar was about, but figured it would be addressed. Figured wrong.

Peter can only mimic the power of nearby 'heroes' which was why he could do all those things in the battle with Future-Skylar because of his proximity. Skylar acquires powers of others after he kills them. Future-Since Clair is still alive, Peter could not heal.

I feel so geeky being able to answer that ;)

Well, this is all just one version of the future. One has to assume that this version of the future will not unfold.

Sylar, in this version of the future eventually took Claire's power of regeneration, but not until the end of this episode (and not at "Homecoming"). Still, even with regeneration if you stopped time, sliced his head off and threw it into the ocean or launched it into space, even with the ability to 'regenerate' I assume that ability does not grow back a head.

.....so the future you saw was what did originally happen...then Hiro talked to Peter to change the past so that Sylar did not gain Claire's power at homecoming. So now we are on the 2nd version of that timeline, where we are hopeful that Hiro will still shove his sword into Sylar, this time killing him without his regeneration abilities.

JeffG - I think you missed an episode or two. It has been shown that Peter does keep those powers that he absorbs. A hero with invisibility (Claude), who once worked with Bennet for the company, "taught" Peter some of the principals of controlling his powers and "pulling them out one-by-one without your symbiotic friend to help you". Subsequent to that, he has been shown the ability to use his powers without the other 'hero' nearby.

One can theorize that 'the bomb' happens because - from Peter's dream - when too many heroes are near him it might "overload" his abilities with too many nearby power boosts that he blows. Of course that's still to be determined.

Two shows that I liked, Raines and The Winner, don't appear to be back for next season. Neither got very high ratings and both are unlikely to get picked up again. I hope the decisions are not made yet as neither article is definitive, but perhaps someone at the networks will champion them and give them some time to develop. I think the networks are way to quick in pulling shows that struggle at first, and it has to be more cost effective to work at an existing product then to develop a new one altogether.

I am casting my ballot for Johnston Green although I'm not 100% certain of it. It could be Gail, and it could be Eric. But a Green will die.

I really like this show. It was overload having Friday Night Lights on the same day. It's very intelligent, and I will be pretty pissed off if we don't get to the end of the story.

On the other hand, we already know who bombed us and why and how Hawkins was involved. Are there any other mysteries?

it's not just about mysteries. it's about the connection of people, about surviving in a small town in a post-nuclear world, about trying to re-build the world for future generations.

i'm still pretty sure Jonah and his crew will be back in one way or another. he may be a thief, but he's still his daughter's father, and he still loves her.

i'm not convinced a Green will die. i think a few of the deputies will die. i think the most important deaths will be Gray and Skylar.

Gray, because after numerous mistakes in judgement, finally extended a hand to the people he should have in the first place, so he has had some resolution, always a good sign someone will die.

Skylar, because Dale, who had become more and more vicious and hardened after years of being picked on, finally stopped thinking about just himself and Skylar in letting his "personal army" of the refugees to fight. when she gets killed, it'll "teach" him that he can't be worried about anyone else in the town, just those that are important to him, and eventually, he'll have his own army to challenge Jericho. a heel turn is in the books for him, big time.

Interesting. Good to see Jericho has a following in these parts.

First of all, I was really enjoying the fact that I knew very little about what actually happened. The discovery was important and interesting. Now that's gone and it's just another show about relationships and getting by under hardship. Which, in this case, is still pretty great, but definitely different.

I was starting to like Gray. He's a good foil to Johnston. I think they should keep that dynamic around.

It's not Dale's time yet. I think that heel turn will come next season. And you're right - it's a good fit. Skylar plays a big role there, obviously.

Maybe it will be Eric? He's been pretty useless lately, especially after they took away his one and only angle.

How about Bonnie (Stanley's sister)? That way, the relationship with Mimi can grow. Just a thought.

i don't see another Green going, because we just lost one in April. her death, and the death of his unborn child, have hardened him, and made him more like his brother Jake.

speaking of Jake, there's still mystery there. we still don't know why he left Jericho in the first place, and i think there's still more to his past than we know - we know he smuggled drugs, and drove a truck in Iraq. but there's still more.

Gray is expendable to me for EXACTLY the reason you want to keep him around. he's a good foil for Johnston...but that's how heels and faces work. you can always bring in a new heel to work with Johnston. but bringing in a new face is a lot tougher. i think Dale and Jonah eventually combine their forces, and make for a formidable political and military enemy for Johnston and the rest of Jericho.

and yea, Bonnie dying could work, but i think it's more interested with her around. remember, this show has become about people and relationships, and the unease between Bonnie and Mimi, and Stanley and whatever Bonnie's boyfriend's name is, is a nice bit of tension.

and i think we already saw Stanley's "hardening"...when Gray sent those 8 men to their death by ignoring Johnston's military advice, we saw a different Stanley come back. he had been to war, and now, he's a warrior. he's not just a farmer anymore.

those final images of him last week - camo make up, and eyes of steel - were chilling.

I agree. Milo getting killed was more a good thing than a bad thing. Now we don't have to hear his lame heart to hearts with Nadia.

This season can't end soon enough. It's amazing how little Jack we're getting and how much lame White House and CTU storylines they're throwing at us. The producers are concerned with all the bad reviews the show has been getting this year after their Emmy winning 5th season. They promised some major changes. It looks like Jack will be moving away from LA and CTU.

I heard Season 7 was going to be in New York. But that was from Fox 5 NY, so who knows?

I actually liked Milo. He was what he was supposed to be: the reluctant leader. I'm not exactly sure how Nadia trumped him to become the interim director, but I guess she needed a more prominent role.

Ricky Schroeder has been the highlight of this season. Who knew? I was starting to think that he could probably spin off and do his own show, but, really, 24 needs him.

The whole White House thing reeks. It's even more unrealistic than in any previous seasons.

At least Daddy Bauer is the bad guy. That keeps me moderately interested.

1. why was it disappointing? it wasn't about feeling sorry for Sylar.

it was about showing that despite being Superhumans, at their root, the Heroes are all humans, and deal with human emotions. his mother's insistence that he be something special, combined with her death, set him off, and now he's got no remorse with killing people that are unrelated to his "mission".

2. who knows. he's been killing Heroes all along. we haven't seen every one he has killed, so presumably, he got those abilities from some of the other Heroes he killed.

See post #191. Dead on.

While Johnston was a great character, it's fairly fitting that he passes on and passes the torch. As the show progressed, I thought it might be Eric.

There are a lot of good things to say here...

- Excellent use of the tank. I like a show with a memory.
- Good use of the army base. They really are a remnant of the US Army, with real guns and real planes. That entire part was perfectly reasonable except for how someone gets from New Bern, KS to Nebraska without a car.
- Of course Jake was going to tell Lassiter (Constantino) "nuts." I think we all saw that coming.
- Even though it's war, this is much less gruesome than other shows like 24. Much easier to watch those parts.
- Dale's still a good guy. The heel turn needs some buildup, but it's in a good place.
- Anyone care to guess how the Stanley/Mimi wedding is going to get messed up?
- I like the flashbacks here. Not too much, but they give you a little info about previous lives of characters. I'll stand by the "Before Jericho" sub-series idea.

This show HAS to be picked up. Even more than Friday Night Lights.

a true remnant. the U.S. Flag had but 21 stars. (i think that's how many i counted).

also - i think you must have missed the beginning of the show as presumably, you're talking about how Heather made it from New Bern to Nebraska.

they showed three bodies laying beside a destroyed car. a group of men - later revealed to be U.S. Soldiers - came across the bodies, and discovered one of the bodies was still alive. that person was shown to be Heather, and they must have brought her to Nebraska.

It shall be fascinating to see how Heroes ends the season. They have placed all of the chess pieces on the board, along with knocking several of them off! I especially liked DL's execution of Linderman.

If you are an actor and are auditioning for a part in Heroes, don't hope for a long ride! Characters falling left and right!

I love the show, but there is still a flaw in the storyline. As crucial as eliminating Molly Walker might be to keeping Claire safe, for Bennet to involve Sprague and endanger his powers being absorbed by Peter (or taken by Sylar), knowing the future of 'the bomb', is just completely counter-intuitive.

I especially liked DL's execution of Linderman.

yea, but is Linderman really dead? i mean, he can heal other people. can he heal himself?

and i think instead of eliminating Molly, using her to find Syler would be a smarter idea.

also - and my mind is blanking - but the woman who was "Babysitting" Mica - clearly will be involved much deeper, and i think it'll involve the "real" her.

we obviously haven't seen what she really looks like - the "Her" we see is an illusion, because she acknowledged that she was quite large, and that she hated how people constantly picked on her.

Tree: yeah, we had:

Thompson (Bennet's old boss)
Linderman
Sprague
DL Hawkins

But as you note, is Linderman really dead? You'd have to assume having your brains pulled out/having a huge hole in your head would do it....but who knows (hell Janice could use her ability to make DL "see" pulling his brains out - there could be a dozen explanations in a future episode - you'd think he's too mythical a character not to have around the background pulling the strings). DL is shown with a bullet in his stomach but not exactly dead.....so again who knows.

Janice is the name of the gal you're referring to. The key quote about her ability was "I can make people see what I want them to" - which goes well beyond a Mystique (from X-men) like morphing ability. The part where from 2 episodes ago where Micah 'escapes' the suite and starts running around the building, only to go into endless loops of the same room and hallway was pretty trippy - and a hugely powerful ability. You could make Sylar think he's walking into a phone booth and have him walk in to a variety of things.

Network televisions is really going downhill with very little originality but the premium channels have been turning out many great shows:

Sopranos
Big Love
Dexter
Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Wire
Entourage
Deadwood(just ended)
Rome(just ended)
Six Feet Under(ended a couple years ago)

All of those shows except Dexter are HBO. It just seems like they're using a much higher budget and more willing to take chances.

Got to admit though, when I set up my DVR I wondered WTF about playing back OUT of order!

Wow......got through the first 3 episodes of Heroes (still taping). It's definitely cool to go back now that you know a lot of other stuff from the season:

- Someone wondered where Sylar got the freezing power to freeze Hiro's sword....well he used that freezing power to kill Molly's father....so he's had it a while.
- The "Godsend" DNA-molecule looking symbol (on Hiro's sword, 'The Haitian's' necklace, etc) is strewn all over the place. In episode 2, when Mohinder discoveres his father's algorithm, when you see it scroll on the screen you see the 'Godsend' symbol. It's also in the scene immediately thereafter when the pool filter hose is shaped like it in the pool of Molly's house....and it was written on Claire's geometry book.

It's definitely worth some time to refresh one's memory as we get ready for the Season Finale.

Heroes:Origins

Heroes: Origins is an upcoming American science fiction drama television series, a spinoff of NBC's hit show Heroes. Heroes: Origins will introduce one new character per episode, and viewers will choose which character will join the main cast at the end of the run. The second season of Heroes and the first season of Heroes: Origins will include a total of 30 episodes.

------------------------------------
Also found this:

*NBC bulks up with 30 combined episodes of "Heroes" and Heroes: Origins, an innovative new spin-off that each week will introduce a new character -- one of whom will be chosen by viewers through the Heroes website on NBC.com to become a cast regular the following season.

*The network has ordered 30 half-hours of the hit series "The Office," including five hour-long episodes, and also has increased the season order for "My Name Is Earl" to 25 episodes.

*Jerry Seinfeld, star of the classic NBC mega-hit "Seinfeld," returns to the network to create and star in 20 unique live-action comedy minisodes inspired by his experiences creating the upcoming DreamWorks animated feature film "Bee Movie," in theaters November 2. NBC Universal will also have the exclusive U.S. broadcast and cable network rights to the film, which features Seinfeld as the voice of Barry B. Benson, a disillusioned bee. Produced by Seinfeld and DreamWorks, the 20 comedy shorts will give viewers a glimpse at Seinfeld's behind-the-scenes antics during production of the movie. The minisodes will run on NBC's primetime schedule this Fall, as well as on NBC.com, on designated days before and after the release of the film.

Hate to interrupt this Heroes discussion (maybe you guys need a separate thread :), but here are a couple series notes that I gathered.

As expected, shows like Raines (NBC) and The Winner (Fox) got the official boot, and other shows like Friday Night Lights, the Office, and Til Death got night/time changes. Lights is actually moving to Fridays which probably means its on the way out soon, and NBC juggled their Thurs night time slots to put 30 Rock ahead of The Office and Scrubs. Not sure why they did that. Raines has a chance to be picked up by a cable network like USA or Bravo from what I have read, but it may be tough to get Goldblum back if movie deals are available.

Other notes: How I met... is back on Mondays at it's normal slot, and New Adventures...Christine will be back as a mid-season replacement. Rules of Engagement is slated to take the King of Queens timeslot on Mondays. Lost will not be back until Jan/Feb 08 due to the news that it will only run a 16 episode continuous season. It will be a long wait to find out what happens after this week's big finale battle for the island.

There are others I am sure that could be mentioned, but that about sums up what I see from the fall lineup. Not much new stuff out in the fall with much promise it seems, so we can only hope the shows we like stick it out.

jericho is getting some crazy media coverage. CBS is now posting they will find a way to wrap things up, but the fans aren't relenting. they want renewal.

letters are being sent, phone calls are being made, and the message boards are being flooded and are close to crashing.

and some of the stars have begun posting on the boards!

and then of course, there is this - which is literally "nuts",

but so far, over 1500 pounds of nuts have been sent to the CBS offices!

To the fans of Jericho:

We have read your emails over the past few days and have been touched by the depth and passion with which you have expressed your disappointment. Please know that canceling a television series is a very difficult decision. Hundreds of people at the Network, the production company and the incredibly-talented creative team worked very hard to build and serve the community for this show -- both on-air and online. It is a show we loved too.

Thank you for supporting Jericho with such passion. We truly appreciate the commitment you made to the series and we are humbled by your disappointment. In the coming weeks, we hope to develop a way to provide closure to the compelling drama that was the Jericho story.

Sincerely,

Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment

I'm a pecan man myself. It stinks to high hell that this show wasn't even allowed to wrap up it's story. CBS screwed it up to begin with via the huge break in between the fall and early spring episodes. If they want to cancel it, fine, but at least give the series 6 episodes or so to finish it.

No way.

Only season 2 will do.

The ratings weren't even that bad. Especially considering that the show attracted intelligent fans who viewed the show via Tivo or online. The online numbers were actually pretty staggering.

But yes, it stinks. I do think it'll be brought back, but once the announcement has been made, there are a lot of things that need to happen to undo it - contracts, dealing with the show it'll replace, etc. I'm betting on late June.

I saw an article that confirmed just that. Jericho was popular in foreign countries and with DVR users, both of which are apparently not calculated in the Nielon numbers.

much like LOST, a large part of Jericho's "decline" in ratings was due to DVR users.

many of the Jericho actors have been posting on the Jerico boards. at first, they were silent, but as the voice of the fans grew louder, they started commenting on the outpouring of support...

Jericho, and LOST, are really shows that are perfect for DVRs. The stories can be slow, although meaningful, and sometimes like the spice that make commericials tolerable. They're an hour long so a DVR can cut that down to around 40 minutes or so.

I would imagine there's a sizeable group of folks that watch both LOST and Jericho. They are similar shows in the grand scheme in that they are both "thinking" shows.

Networks are just going to have to adapt to DVRs. They are not going anywhere and neither are internet viewings of shows. If they want more ad revenue, then they need to look at product placement or more episodes that have limited commericials but then are sponsored by a company.

If shows like Jericho ("thinking" shows) get the axe and all we have are comedies and reality shows, TV is going to royally suck and I think network TV will suffer as a result.

I bet HBO or Showtime could pick up Jericho and make it a big time winner. No commercials, no censors, just let it rip. I think it would rock.

I've got all 3 AD seasons on DVD and have watched them a few times. The saddest thing about it was what happened the begining of season 3 with Charlies Theron, it jsut went BAD, and then magically when "Little Britton" was over it was back to it's great self, which was also the point it was told it wasn't going to be renewed. So many classic moments, with most of them being stuff that Tobias said.

Veronica Mars has started a similar campaign with Snickers. Were Mars bars taken? I'm pretty sure that one won't be as successful.

Just finished watching all 23 Heroes episodes and the show really grew on me. Hiro is as badass as it gets. One thing that annoyed me was how often they used the word "hero" during the show. Most of the time it was just weird.

Read this about next season:

CCI: What do viewers have to look forward to in volume two?

TK: Volume two may not last an entire season. It will pick up a few of the questions that will be left hanging in volume one. But you can look forward to the introduction of a new character and a villain and the idea of the show having a kind of global feel is only increased in volume two.

CCI: When you say volume two will not be an entire season, do you mean you'll start volume three in the next season?

TK: Yes, volume three will start in the middle of the season or toward the end of the season. There is a complete season next year, with about 23 episodes, but the idea is that the show is told in volumes and each one is sort of looked at as one book in a series of books, and then we move on to another volume. This allows us to not get caught up in one giant story that needs to be dragged on. One of the lessons we've learned from other shows is that that you can't (let the show) get wrapped up so tightly around itself that it doesn't have any breathing room left. You can't introduce any new concepts because you're so busy on the freight train that is that story. The story becomes a big giant engine that gets harder and harder to hop off.

What happened to the hot roommates on The Loop? The episode last night sucked compared to season 1. The storylines that involved his roommates were always so much better than the work storylines. The show needs to realize it's not The Office.

Not exactly "new" but I just read TBS is gonna start showing reruns of The Office.

Under the deal, TBS will be able to air one hour of episodes from previous "Office" seasons each week. That number will increase to 12 plays per week when the show goes into regular off-network syndication in fall 2009.

At that time, TBS also will have non-exclusive broadband, on-demand and wireless rights to the show.

TBS gets rights to reshow 'Office'

Actually, they're skipping the first half of Jericho (after the pilot), so tomorrow night they show two episodes: the "recap" of the first 11, and episode #12, Black Jack.

If you're not up for watching online, you'll be fine if you watch tomorrow, because the second half of the season is better than the first.

I have 3 new shows on the slate.

Greek, an ABCFamily show about fraternity life. The first episode was pretty interesting; we'll see how it goes.

Bronx Is Burning is only so-so so far. I was really looking forward to this, so hopefully it picks up.

Big Brother 8. I didn't watch Big Brother until halfway through last season. Mike Boogie and Will are awesome. This season, the cast is lackluster, but I'm still watching.

My favorites to watch:

2. Zach
3. Amber

3. Kail

Agree with you about Bronx is Burning, bh. My wife and I were both 15 during this time, and lived as die-hard Yankee fans in the 70s (only me now...). It is really cool to see this historical take on NYC during this time, but otherwise, the mini-series has a total "TV movie" look and feel. The best parts are the exchanges between Steinbrenner and Martin, or more accurately, Turturro and Platt, two stud actors who do an excellent job. Otherwise, the clubhouse scenes are pretty lame, except for the funny quips from Mickey Rivers. The Rescue Me actor playing Reggie lacks the ooomph for me. Thurman comes across as a cry-baby and no other players are included, even though the NYY had a huge number of other stars (Catfish, Mickey, Willie, Bucky, Guidry, Goose, Nettles). The Son of Sam stuff is interesting, but already covered 10x better by Spike Lee and Michael Imperioli (writer) in the film starring John Leguizamo, "Summer of Sam."

If I'm trying to win, there's no way I vote for Kail right now. Mike is much more of a threat, and I would definitely try to get him out now. Fortunately, his biggest ally is Kail, and if he stays, she's gone.

I think Kail will go anyway, but it's not smart. And now Mike has proved to someone (Zach? Nick? Jen? Jameka? there HAS to be something going on) that he's loyal and will stay the course. If he survives this, he's in good shape, other than Kail being gone.

"What percentage of Americans said that in a duel with Dick Cheney, they would probably be shot by the Vice President, or the other way around?"

Audience reaction is high indicating -- Cheney would be the shooter.

My guess is 60% Cheney.

Contestant has a 20% range to continue. Picks 35%-55%.

He's going for $100K.

Answer (from poll): 43%.

Contestant continues.

(Funny: crowd (presumably NY crowd) chants "Cheney, Cheney, Cheney...)

Power of 10 doings. CBS. Right now.

National poll, asked of women:

"Do you consider yourself a feminist?"

My guess: 43%

Contestant has a 10% range.

Studio audience graph of answers peaks around 37% -- but the graph is not symmetrical.

Contestant's father advises: 15-20%.

This is for $1 million or losing $100K.

Contestant can walk away with $100K. He guesses 23-33%. He decides to risk his $100K to win $1 million.

For $1 million dollars.

Answer: He won. $1 million dollars.

Agree, tree. No one will ever go for the $10 million superprize.

Do you think the show will succeed?

i think the problem with the show is that, honestly, while interesting, it gets boring fast.

i also can't really see anyone going for that 10 million. 10 million is a lot of money - but for most people, 1 million is a lot of money, and if you're intelligent with your money, and you're young, you can turn 1 million into 10 million with less risk.

J,
I love the show "My Boys".
You can watch previous episodes at tbs.com.
This is the second season. The first season started last December I think...
They had a marathon in the Spring. I believe I recorded it, if your interested.

Jim Gaffigan is greatas PJ's brother, Andy.

I especially like the first season finale when the gang surprises Andy with a day on Wringley Field.

FX has had some pretty good shows.
My wife started watching "Damages" and wants to add it to the rotation.

I saw a commercial during "Damages" for "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." I thought it had been mentioned before in this tread but I didn't see it after a cursory glance. It had a short run and has been picked up for another season. It's really funny.

Heroe's season 1 is out on DVD. Just got it at WalMart for $35 (includes 4 episodes of Friday Night Lights for some reason)

Anyways, supposedly there's a never-been-aired pilot episode. Unless my DVD is screwed up, i'm pretty sure I'm watching the first episode, which I've already seen. Anyone else watch the pilot?

Ok, apparently I had false expecations for this unaired pilot.

The unaired version includes most of episode 1, but they add in a couple of scenes from other episodes as well what is basically some deleted scenes.
