Season 9 gets underway tonight with those sometimes painful audition episodes.

A few already pretty well publicized changes in store. This will be Simon Cowell's last year on the judges panel. Paula Abdul is not returning. The show will have a guest judge during the audition shows, with Ellen DeGeneres joining full time beginning with the Hollywood week shows.

They are going back to a final 24 format with separate performance episodes for guys and girls eliminating two a week until they are down to a final 12. No word on whether they'll have a 'judges save' this year like they introduced last year.

After a year off, "Idols Gives Back" is scheduled for April.

A decent episode to be sure but out of over 9,000 people in Boston, only 30+ make it to Hollywood. Wow! That's some tough love there.

Speaking of tough love, what crawled up inside Kara? She just went berserk against that one dude---totally unprovoked and totally unprofessional IMHO. How about just saying "No, thanks" and usher him out of the room?

The guy came in with an attitude. I'm not much a fan of Kara, but that guy was just asking for trouble...

Amazing that with all the good places to eat in Boston, that Beckham lady didn't find any of them, she is disgustingly skinny...

Missing Paula and not looking forward to Ellen. With Simon leaving
the show so will millions of viewers. For me Idol has about jumped
the shark and its time to move on.

I like Paula but the show will be better without her.
The only thing missing will be the little game we played called "guess the meds".
Ellen will add some much needed humor and hopefully a lot less petty bickering between the judges.

Not sure I have any favorites just yet but the guy who retooled the Abdul song sounded good.

He's a local boy from here in Ft. Worth, who plays at least once a month in my favorite dive.

The Parents Television Council is unsurprisingly against the idea of controversial shock jock Howard Stern replacing Simon Cowell on American Idol next season and wants Fox to put the rumor to rest.

Casey James is still in...has been pretty strong thus far...would not be surprised to see him make 24.

I think Howard Stern would be a very good replacement for Cowell..as long as he does not treat it as a joke. I think Howard has a good critical eye and definitely would not hold back. But do not see it happening...

Top 24 has already changed from those orignally selected.

25 percent of the finalists are from Texas, and four of them are from the Fort Worth-Dallas metroplex. that's pretty impressive.

Ellen is even worse than imagined. I guess she's
there to attract Senior Citizens. The talent is less
than average and the guys don't stand a chance. I'll
most likey to see the entire show through.

Very dissapointing start for the final-12 girls (and a bad start by Ellen who basically offered nothing original and just repeated what the other judges had given in their feedback). The hype had me expecting some real talent and hopefully they'll pick up in the weeks to come.

Lets hope the guys bring it tonight or you'll have me starting a write in campaign for the 'Pants on the Ground' guy.

I think it is way too early to declare a lack of talent.
I thought there were a few decent performances and a couple that I can see good potential.
We need to keep in mind they are on the smaller stage with a much smaller band.
As with every season the performers get better every week as they gain experience and are given more rehearsal time.

At least this season most of them will be give 2 or 3 chances instead of the 1 and done that 2/3 of the contestans had last season.

On the judges I dont miss Paula.
Ellen was much better in Hollywood....not sure how she can interject her humor while trying to give insightful criticizm.
What is up with Simon taking over the Paula comments about how nice the contestants look on stage?
Hey Simon......It's a singing competition not a fashion show.

Still not really impressed. A couple of the girls are decent...Bowersox and Sibohan. Do not really get the love for Lilly Scott.

I can't see any of the guys winning...no one really stands out. Maybe Lee Dewyze or Casey James...but really need to see more from them.

Overall I still think it is one of the weaker seasons.

Sad to see Michelle go last night.
I thought she had the potential to step it up.
Not really feelong it for Bowersox....best summed up by Simon as a Subway Singer.
Didi has a unique voice and I was pulling for her but when butchering Lean on Me might be considered an unpardonabe sin.
Of the girls that are left I would have to go with Sibohan.
I have the boys on tape so I really cant make a comment but it seems from the other comments I'm not missing much.

We do need to keep in mind that last season the top 12 were based on a single post-Hollywood week performace.

I like many of the singers this year and while I would agree that none make me want to start calling in votes, the biggest difference for me this year is that none are truly terrible. The only one I really couldn't stand to listen to, Haley Vaughn, went home last week. For the most part I agree with the ones who have went home every week. I expected Lacey Brown (love the eyes, meh on the singing) to be gone instead of Michelle Delamoor last week, but knew Michelle wasn't going to win it. I disagreed with the judges the week prior when she sang the Alicia Keys song. She sounded great and has a beatiful voice. The Creed song was a horrible choice.

Tonight wasn't very good. The only one I really enjoyed was Siobhan Magnus and I think it's a combo of her singing and personality. Paige Miles and Katie Stevens were the worst two tonight, with Katelyn Epperly rounding out my bottom three. She chose a very boring song that I doubt will connect with the average idol watcher.

Crystal has done well each week, but I wonder if the "too cool for school" attitude will carry her through the competition. I like Lilly Scott, but she's more than welcome to switch it up just once and show us something different. I like Didi Benami and read an opinion where a person stated she was everything that the judges hoped Megan Joy would have been last season. She has good control and in a way reminds me a bit of Adele-lite.

My totally random picks to go home this week will be Lacey Brown and Katelyn Epperly.

I have to agree with 90% of your take.
I had Miles as the worst followed by Lacey and Katelyn.
I had Siobhan far and away the best.
I enjoy listening to Bowersox because whe is different for idol but I cant get the subway performer out of my mind.
Living in LA we dont have subways but if I lived near a subway I would definitely stop to hear a couple of her songs if I wasnt late for my train.

My guess for going home would be Miles and Epperly.

31...Very surprised with America voting out Lilly and The Mullet. But, as you know as well as anybody, this is NOT simply a singing/talent contest. It is, and will forever be, a popularity contest first and foremost. Everything and everyone are judged by singing skills to a degree but a whole host of factors always play their part: personality, clothing styles, song selection, judges review, race, perceived arrogance, connection to the audience, wrong perception of a singers' "safety", etc.

Lilly et al obviously didn't connect with America as well as the others--for whatever reason. Is it fair? Is it right? Who is to say?

Early on in the shows run Bond, I think the singing part overshadowed the "hawt" part in the voting. That it would and has inevitably turned into a popularity contest, is/was a given.

I'm feeling like, the show has run it's course and this is probably the last season I'll pay any attention to it.

I'm totally with ya sarge! Idol's best days are well behind it. It just looks tired and old. Or maybe that's just Simon....ZING!

For whatever reason, this season's "idols"--(their word, not mine)---are really subpar in talent and personality. I'm all for great television, interesting background stories, etc. but if you don't have actual great singers as your foundation, everything else will be affected including the judging, the fan's voting bloc, etc.

In a season where the Paula turmoil, the Simon will he/or won't he leave shenigans, the entrance of all things Ellen, and the uprising of Kara's all-important ego, have all taken this show to unknown places, Season 9 needed a great season to get through all this drama and turmoil. It hasn't and probably won't.

If Simon goes, and I'm not yet convinced that he's a goner, this show disappears regardless of who will take his place.

We are always told how much better the current season is than ever before and yet this season blows. Everything about it just smells.

As for Simon, he is gone becaue he is bringing his own show on the air next season. AI used to be good but it has gone downhill. They still lip synch the group sing too. We DVD it and can get through it pretty quickly. The bad singing, the comments, the long commercials...doesn't apply.

IMHO, last nights clear winner was Siobahn. Aron/Crystal 2nd and 3rd. (Not sure which order I'd put then in.) Then Lee and then Casey.

Tim and Garcia are I think the bottom 2 for the guys, and Didi/Katy/Lacey (pick any 2) for the girls.

Rankings for last night:

Siobhan

Everyone else

Tim Urban

If I had to pick someone to round out the top 3 it would have to be Bowersox, Aron, and Mills...pick 2.

My guess is because Urban had such a negative review that his voters will be motivated and he will live another week.
Going home: Katy

Worst pick of the night...the decision by the producers to go with The Rolling Stones for the first round.
True story:
I was commenting to my wife that the Stones was a very poor choice and would be difficult to find a decent song.
So I call my son into the room who turns up his nose when it comes to Idol but is really into music from the 60's and 70's.
I asked him if he had to pick a song for someone to sing on Idol what would he choose
Without hesitation....."Paint it Black"....was his only reply.

Go back and listen to Siobhan again. Take out the wailing scream
at the end, and it was rather ordinary. Someone compared her to
Adam Lambert last night and that was just total crap. Lamberts
worst performance last season is better than anything I've seen so far this year.

Stones made it VERY difficult for some I think. You dont DARE try and sound like them. (I mean really, who could?) and you dont dare butcher the music either. Its almost too iconic. With the theme being the Stones, Urban was toast from the word go.

The reason Stones week is so difficult is you have a few lines of melody followed by long guitar rifts with Jagger dancing around the stage.
Not very conducive to a singing competition.
I do think a couple of them did a decent job of changing it up and giving the music a different feel.
However, a bluesey, upbeat Under my Thumb just didnt work at all.

I was thinking the only downside to Siobhan's performance was the scream.
Take out the scream and the performance only gets better.
It worked in AF's Think but not last night.

Of course if you took out the screaming from Lambert last season you would be left with dead air.

OK, so no major trainwrecks last night, but I still feel underwhelmed by this group. I was a little disappointed that no one really rocked it out. I mean, come on, the Stones are a ROCK band. The only two who came close to that kind of energy were Casey and Paige. Not that everyone should have just played a karaoke track and sung over it, but the rearrangements were sooooo overdone it was almost like a parody of an Idol show. Coffeehouse Idol does the Rolling Stones! Starring...a string quartet! Mellow reggae guitar! Whisper-soft vocals!

It's weird, because I enjoy coffeehouse type music. But where's the grit, the soul, the RAWK? There's so little passion in this bunch. Even Siobhan, whom I find to be the most interesting musically, sang "Paint It Black" in a very mannered, pretty, over-rehearsed way (aside from the too-Gokey-for-comfort screeching). It was, strangely enough, a little bland for me. And I love Siobhan and "Paint It Black". Just not together, in this case.

And while I think Crystal is in danger of doing basically the same shtick every week, she's the only one who sings with her gut. It feels natural and spontaneous. There are so many moments for the other singers when the background music is playing and they could be singing "whoa" or "oooh" or doing SOMETHING to fill in that empty space, but they don't. Crystal does. She kind of goes to the Kelly Clarkson place where you just know she's going to sound on key and soulful and natural, and you don't get worried.

Weird, I wasn't even really a Crystal fan until tonight. The kind of music she likes to do isn't really my cup of tea, and I will probably never buy her CD. But she is the best pure singer of Season 9. And Siobhan is the most interesting. Everyone else is just...meh.

I miss Kris and Adam. In fact, I even miss Clay over this shipshod of...ahem...."talent".

Yeah, nothing really bad, but nothing great either. THought for the most part it was all fine. I fast forwarded through much of the singing though and much of the judging too. I am so tired of Kara. She thinks she knows it all and talks longer than anyone else.

The scream was bad IMO. I liked that note she did last week but not this time. She is going to do that every week. I jsut don't get this group for the most part. Most of them aren't bad at all, but I just don't feel it.

Solid:
Bowersox - Wasnt as wowed as much as the judges were, but solid.
Siobhan - Lose the scream please.
Casey - Yeah it was a copy of the original, but a pretty damn good one.
Aaron - Could have been the best of the night if he didnt have voice issues.

Lacking but not horrible:
Katie
Didi
Andrew
Lee

Downright horrible
Urban

Not a big fan of AI this year but it is what it is I guess.

I think that Ryan might have a bit of a crush on Didi but trying to get her to open up just made me want to punch him in the face.

Best of the night for me was Lee, (who continues to remind me of Dave Matthews and Adam Duritz vocally), Big Mike,(he chose a good song and sung it decently), and Casey. Crystal was decent as well.

Worst of the night:
Tim
Siobhan
Didi

Siobhan needs to stop with the screaming, it's not in tune, but I think that maybe she thinks that it is?
Tim should not have attempted an Anita Baker song, but at least he knows that he's not that good, and he's just going to ride it out for as long as he can. Simon was right about him.

I liked Didi's song choice, but she didn't sound that good in her performance.

Aaron was okay, I like him.

Andrew was better than he's been since he made the Top 24, but I don't think that he's that good of a vocalist.

Katie was okay.

I think that Katie, Didi and Tim might be in the bottom three tomorrow night, with possibly Didi or Katie going home. Tim's fanbase might be able to keep him around at least a little longer. But then again, I was a huge fan of Lilly and look how that turned out.

It seems to me that maybe someone has told the judges to lighten
up on the negative comments. They seem to be forcing
themselves to look for the positive in each performance, but rarely
is it actually there. I dunno each week just seems to leave me flat.
Maybe I'm down on the show this year because last year was just
so interesting. Ellen is really a miscast misfit. She has no
charisma and no credibility in the music business.

imo it all comes down to the lack of overall talent this season. No one is really awful and no one is great.

The best singer this season is Bowersox...based on her singing she is right up there with the very best we have seen on idol but she is also incredibly boring and seems like she is either stoned or going through withdrawal. So even she can't raise the level of this group.

Mediocrity...little interest...

No real surprise last night with the elimination of Didi.
Much like Megan last season the voice is great but the performances were uninspiring and lacking.

Can we please find a better method on how the save is used?
Letting the contestant stand there like an idiot when you already know you are not going to save them is just cruel.
Give each judge a keypad with yes or no.
Have the votes tallied electronically and the results given to Seacrest before the song is done.
Simon gets paid to give brutally honest opinions while Seacrest gets paid to tastefully give contestants bad news.

As bad as this season has been for me, I actualy liked this week the best. Didi wasn't that good. But Sobhan was bad too--but I agree she shouldn't go based on her other weeks. Tim actually wasn't horrible but plain. I thought those three should have been in the bottom three. I thought Didi was the right one to leave.

I'm so tired of Simon and Ryan's banter. Ryan asked Simon some legit questions though. He's a bore at times. It doesn't make the show any better at all. Ryan's just as guilty. Ask a different judge, Ryan!

The judge's save thing is a joke. I agree that it has it's place but the method in which they banter back and forth is ridiculous. It has to be unanimous so it seems pretty easy to do it quickly.

It was a good show last night and the judges had much more positive feedback. I wonder if they were told to hold back some of the digs because this season has been labeled mediocre by the critics and is losing in the ratings to Dancing With the Stars.

I feel like Crystal is this season's Adam Lambert, and has a safe niche that can cruise into the finals. I think after the votes take Tim, Adam, and Andrew out of the picture it is wide open as to which other contestant makes it to the finals and as to who wins it. It is anyone's game to win right now.

I think I finally have this show figured out after David Cook and Chris Allen won the last two years taking it from contestants much more visable earlier in the season.

Based on that concept, I think Lee can take votes from the other cast offs fan bases, and I'm making an early call that Lee Dewyze is your next American Idol.

You may indeed be right with that call Jeff. IMHO, it's Crystal's competition to lose. Of course, I felt the same last year re Adam Lambert. He lost support no doubt to the "common guy" Chris, and I can certainly see Crystal doing likewise to Lee. OTH, Crystal isnt so much polish and glam like Lambert was, and she could potentially hold onto her own share of the 'common' vote.

There's my final two...final 'alteration'. Lee and Crystal. Flip a coin, as to who America chooses.

For me the best of the night was Siobhan.

As has been the case in weeks past, none of them were spectacular nor were any of them that bad.

Didnt much care for Lee and his take on Hey Jude.
The bagpipe guy was really weird.
Casey and Aaron were not as good as they have been in past weeks.
Katie and Tim were better than they have been.
Andrew and Big Mike were ho-hum and forgettable.
I liked Crystal's performance but her vocals were not all that good.
I think if we had not heard Crystal and Tim before and only listened to the vocals we would be wowed by Tim and unimpressed with Crystal.

Bottom 3:
Tim, Katie, Andrew
My guess is Andrew going home.

Horrible use of the save.
Would Mike have been sent home too early?
Yes.
Does Mike have a legitimate shot at being the next American Idol?
Hell NO.
Would be very surprised if he makes top 6.

What happens next week when Bowersox or Siobhan are in the bottom 2?
I have a really bad feeling about next week.

When all three women were announced safe I knew I was going to be happy with the guy going home. I thought Siobhan kinda sucked for the week, but I dig her and know she will be more entertaining than Aaron, Tim, Andrew, and Mike every week.

When they split the guys into 3 groups, I was thrilled. I knew that Casey wasn't bottom three, so one of Aaron, Mike, or Andrew were going home. I actually kinda figured it would be Mike when Seacrest hinted a big surprise and it was down to those three. Regardless, I want to see those three + Tim as the next four to go. My Top 5 includes the three women remaining, Casey, and Lee.

The judges using the save was dumb, unless all of them think he should be a Top 5 contestant. He's not going to win. While it would make the show suck much more, I think it would be hilarious if Casey, Crystal, or Siobhan get sent home next week. Even Lee getting sent home would do the trick and make the judges feel pretty dumb using that save.

To be fair, I don't think it was the judges that came up with the idea of a save. I can't remember what actually caused this but it seems to me that many were upset when Daughtry got bounced earlier than expected. However, under these current rules, he couldn't have been saved anyway since he was already in the top 5.

If they're going to use this save in future seasons, why are they limited in using it only up 'til the Top 5? Seems counterproductive to me. Why not use it up 'til when it actually matters---like the top 3?

While it would be eminently 'unfair' to that individual; you make a valid point about sometimes having to demonstrate to some how their own stupid decisions can harm others.

Lee was also very good.
I would have to rank Katie 3rd.

Subpar...Aaron and Casey.
Disappointing....Siobhan and Bowersox.

Tim and Andrew gave their usual sucky performances.

Worst performance of the night has to go to Adam Lambert as "Mentor".
How many decent singers have to turn down Idol before they decide to call Lambert?

I thought Tim did a pretty good job, but that's compared to his body of work thus far. Lee or Casey's worst performance is still miles ahead of Tim's best.

I thought Lee was best of the night with Mike and Katie both giving good performances. Casey and Crystal were okay. Siobhan wasn't that good and hasn't done anything I've liked lately. The worst two for me were Aaron and Andrew and I hope they both go this week. I took a peek at dial-idol and it looks like they predict Mike, Crystal, and Casey as safe and the other 6 to be in the unsafe range.

I think Garcia was by far the worst. I figured he was gone for sure. I figured the next to worst was Aaron. I really wish they would only put the bottom four vote-getters in the bottom three. If not, they might as well release the votes for each player and that will never happen.

I thought Katie has been better than Siobhan. Didn't think it was her turn to go, but she's not a contender so not big deal that she's gone.

I think Lee and Crystal are probably the front-runners right now but Casey could be a darkhorse. I'm sure women dig his vibe and he has shown he can sing. Siobhan could get back in it if she could change things immediately. Mike is a longshot, but you just never know. The other two need to go forthwith.

Dial Idol predictions suggest that Casey might go tonight.

To the extent that people vote via text messaging, this sampling technique is missing significant data. But it has still been a reasonably accurate predictor in recent weeks.

Casey, Mike and possibly Shioban could be in trouble. (Though I think Aaron SHOULD be the one to go after last nights performances. His song choice was IMO, horrid. WAY too big for him and regardless what Randy says, he doesnt have the pipes for that tune AT ALL.))

Underwood was fantastic as always and Elton didnt dissapoint.....but everyone else was somewhere between bad and horrid.
Even Alicia Keyes was off key on some of her notes.

Tim has improved but not to the point of being idol worthy.

Thank goodness I DVRed the show. Luckily, I started watching it before it was over and as soon as I heard it was running long was able to go in and record the ending.

Most of the singing was horrid. I kept skipping so much that I almost caught up with the live show. I'm fine with Tim going home. Yes he was leaps and bounds better, but the guy he replaced was so good that he may have been the AI winner. He truly got a bad deal. He even proved he wasn't under contract but AI said, sorry too late. But I digress. Point is, he should have never made the show in the first place but he seems like a great individual and has done better than I ever imagined. He had no chance of winning.

Best thing that happened to Casey was being in teh bottom three as he should get enough votes now to stay for at least another couple weeks now. I am so over Siobhan. Aaron is similar to Tim with a little better voice so his 15 mins is up for now. I'm still on the Lee and Bowersox bandwagon. I think Lee may be more commercial right now, but if Crystal can get around the right people, she could do wonders with her talent.

You can hardly blame AI for the popularity of Lady Gaga.
The fact that AI can still book popular acts like Gaga/Keyes/Twain/Black eye Peas is proof that they are nowhere near their shark jump.
When they start bringing on juggling acts or something equally outrageous then we can all agree they have run out of ideas and have reached the bitter end.

who said I blamed AI for that? Doesnt mean they needed to book her on the show. Black Eyed Peas, pretty much blows too. Havent heard from anyone who watched/heard them, who thought they were worth a tinkers damn that night.

The show, and certainly Seacrest, have gotten WAY too full of themselves. With Ryan and Randy trying every week to proves "whose is biggest" so they can be the new alpha-male next season; has gotten REALLY old.

Ellen, has done a fine job of imitating Paula, in telling everyone, every week, how wonderful they are.

Kara, is still trying to justify her even being on the panel.

While Simon has this look in his eyes every week like, "isnt this season over with YET?"

Lady Gaga has a nice voice but the stupid costumes and on-stage craziness detract from hersinging. A Madonna Clone, but with less talent. - lol, sounds about right

Kara I liked last season, but this year she is really the reason I can't listen to the judges anymore. She is so annoying and her "advice" is so erratic with each contestant. I think she talks just to talk.

I think all mentors should have to do what Connick did--or similar. You're not a mentor if you're Miley at 17 or one year removed from AI and not even winning the show. Loved what Connick did. Incredible. A real musical genius.

I am so tired of Secrest and the judges. Kara continues to try and prove to the world that she belongs and I dislike her more each week--if that's possible at this point. I'm tired of the lip synching on Wed. nights. There is a lot about Idol I don't like, but I watch it mainly because we DVR it and watch it quickly and skip a lot of it. If I missed a week, I wouldn't be upset at all. Kinda over it. Simon's show might be better next season.

Casey has got-to-go...now! For some reason, he has regressed the last couple of weeks and his confidence is certainly no longer there.

The song selection tonight was wretched but this whole season is extremely subpar in that regard anyways.

By default, Crystal won tonight and should be safe. Lee showed some serious chink in his armor but compared with Casey and Big Mike, he should stay at least another week IMO.

Only positive for me (outside of Ellen's personal knowledge that she has loved a woman...LOL) was that the duets were hot.

Play at end of song to hear him talk. Dude has such a great voice but wants to keep playing mello crap songs. Meh. FF to see Lee is safe. FF to Bon Jovi. Listen for 30 seconds. Bon Jovi sounds like crap. FF to see Mike is voted off. Play to watch his journey film. FF a little to get past the part where he is talking about his kid being born...way overplayed. Listen to him sing for five seconds. Delete and turn off TV.

It's not just you. Lee has that angsty look, like he is singing with passion when it's just how he looks. Caey sings with a big smile most of the time, so he obviously doesn't connect with songs because he should have that angsty look. Pain, anguish, and tearful are also acceptable looks to show how much you have really connected with the song.

TB I was thinking more about when he's being interviewed than his
singing. He's seems to have this blank look all of the time. I
guess he just might be shy or just not have a lot of personality. I
kind of like his singing.

The whole show is off this year IMO, just not much chemistry.

Lee stepped out of the headlights and delivered a great
performance of "Hallelujah" last night. Over the years I can
distinctly remember only two "Moments" on Idol. David Cook's
rendition of "Billie Jean" and Adam Lambert's "Mad World". Lee
may have topped both of those and sealed up the competition this
season.

Tonight say goodbye to Casey James.

Hallelujah was a good performace but it was nothing close to "A Moment".
I would take Jason Castro's rendition any day of the week and I didnt much care for anything else he did.
Could it be a case of so many so-so performances that when there was finally a good performance we want to make more of it than we should?

Normally on Idol there is a building of excitement but it seems mediocrity has let all the air out of the room.
I think both constestants will put out a decent album and have some sucess but I'm not seeing huge careers for either.
I dont really have a strong preference for either constestant.

Bond:

Do you really think Bowersox was that much better than Lee to say America got it wrong?
I thought they were very close and can see arguments on both sides that either one deserved to win.

I thought most of the music last night was pretty decent....lots of big stars.
I would have loved to be in the room when they told Lee they were going to have Chicago play and we need you to sing some lead vocals.
Bringing Paula back to remind everyone why she is no longer a judge was probably the worst bit of the night.
Should be very interesting next season without Simon.

I think Lee needed to win more than Bowersox.

She should do well, regardless.

I think his future career success is much more dependent on having the "Idol" title on his resume.

127....perhaps not that much better per se but when you consider a contestant's body of work from beginning to end (at least the parts that Idol actually lets us see) then yes, I do believe that Crystal deserved/earned it more than Lee. Now, was there a huge chasm of talent between the two? No, I can't say that. At least not in the Adam/Kris vein of AI 8 where Adam got completely shafted from his due reward. But Crystal was better overall than Lee, at least to my ears anyway.

I harbor no ill feelings either way. Both are good and they may have a great careers. But I think it's just as likely that neither one of them pans out for an elongated career.

As far as Paula coming back.....my gawd, I had forgotten what a wonderful drunken stupor she was always in. Can't say I missed her at all this season.

As far as Simon is concerned, in my book, he's simply irreplaceable and his spot should remain empty. No matter who they get, that person will always be compared to Simon and that's just not right. Love him or hate him---and there's hardly any middle ground there---he has become a big part of American reality T.V. lore and in spite of his caustic, persnickety, snobbish and pretentious ways, he was the judge whose opinion was always held in the highest esteem.

I really enjoyed the finale even though most of the older stars don't have much singing talent remaining. It was a nice trip down memory lane. Great send-off for Simon. I was a little disappointed for Crystal that she didn't win. It may not be a huge gap between her and Lee, but there is a gap. I agree with most of Bond's post. Now I am hoping they don't bring in a fourth judge for next season and just drop back to three judges.

128: This.

I wanted Lee to win. I like his style better. I think Crystal did better in the finale but she wasn't always better. I thought Lee had a lot of nice weeks and several better than Crystal overall. Crystal also had seveal weeks better than Lee. Being totally objective, I felt that the final week, tipped the scales ever so slightly for Bowersox--but I still liked Lee better.

The finale was great, esp. for us older people. The problem is that their largest target audience probably thought it was horrible because they're young and didn't know who anyone was.

Looks like lots of changes will be made with Idol for the upcoming season. Not only has Simon left the building but Ellen will not return either.

Ellen leaves Idol

Supposedly, a major announcement will occur Monday and I wouldn't be surprised if the PTB'S just clean house and start over with a new slate of judges altogether.
