Subject: Pearl Jam World Tour

Ok, so it's only Canada and a few U.S. dates, but those are located in the World, right?

How many shows are you seeing? What song do you most want to hear?

I'll have to wait until next year, when they go on the real World Tour. I can't afford to go chasing after them when they aren't playing anywhere below the Mason Dixon line.

I'd like to hear some of the Lost Dogs live, like Other Side and Sad. I doubt they'll play those, but it would be nice. I'm always a sucker for State of Love and Trust. And I'd like to hear Man of the Hour. It sounded great on Benaroya. You could tell they had played it about a million times for the recording, and they had it down when they played live.

bh, did you see the record store gig they did at that indie place is going to be out on CD? I'd like to get a copy of that.

I've heard Sad a few times live. Other Side would be nice.

What I'm really waiting for is this... they play Alive. Then Once. Then Footsteps. Then Chris Cornell comes out and they play Times Of Trouble. Then Hunger Strike. Then Say Hello To Heaven. Exit Chris.

I'll be at the Toronto show and I'm trying to see if it'll be possible to get to Philly or Atlantic City.

They played Man Of The Hour the 2nd night in Boston last year, and it was great.

Chris Cornell? Isn't he busy promoting a communist agenda? Seriously, has he done guest appearances before? I haven't heard that.

Alive, Once, Footsteps. A true beliver in the Mamasan. I think it's all BS. Urban Legend.

I'm seeing them in Ottawa and in Philly... got Fan Club tickets for both... I wanted Borgata tickets, but I'd end up getting too drunk at a poker table and not enjoying the show... Songs I'd like to hear live...

Smile, In My tree, Otherside, Lowlight, sleight of hand and maybe their cover of Dock on the Bay...

BH, I may have an extra Philly or Ottawa ticket if you are interested... I always buy two and then now one ever wants to go, losers

Who would turn down a Pearl Jam ticket?

Did you guys see they are selling digital copies of the shows within hours of their completions for this tour? That is so cool. PJ is a great band not just for the music, but because they do cool stuff like that. You have to love it.

some of my friends work and just dont have the time to take off... i took off a bunch of days for 2 shows, its my favorite summer activity.

I'm doing that with HIM this Fall. Going to 2 or 3 shows in New Orleans and Central Florida. I agree it is a great time.

Matt, I also like having the packaging they offer when you buy the CD's rather than making my own.

Imagine how much money they are making off of this, though. It's got to be a fortune. All they have to do is pay Brett Eliason some fee and then they use the internet as the distribution system. No retailer, no middleman, no actual tangible materials needed, no shipping costs, almost no laborers required. Even if people buy the shows and then burn 228 copies for their friends, PJ still makes money. Freakin' awesome concept.

That's why they're rock stars.

Your donations will help people in need of emergency shelter, food and water. In addition, MoveOn.org Civil Action has provided information to help victims find housing."

I downloaded the Gorge show. Eddie mentioned about recording Binaural in New Orleans and how people should help out. He also said they'd probably be giving the proceeds from some of the shows to the Red Cross or some other charitable organization.

Great songlist, too. I saw the songlist for the concert the other night and there was an abbreviation I couldn't figure out. Something like R.I.T.F.W. My brain is failing me as far as figuring out which song that is.

You see them in the front
At every f uckin' show
Fist banging maniacs
With heads that move so slow
Who wants to see a fist
Right in their f ucking face
They should learn to mosh
Or leave the f uckin' place

Fist Banging Mania
Fist Banging Mania
Fist Banging Mania
Fist Banging Mania

You know that they mean well
But it still makes you frown
Why can't they really thrash
And put their fist bangs down
Save that fist bang s hit
For bands like Motley Crue
Or when you come see us
We'll dive on top of you

By the way, the e-mail and the link on the website made it clear that only 10Club members are eligible to buy these tickets.

This turned out to be one giant mess. The 10 Club was useless today. It was a free for all, and I lost patience after 2 hours of clicking. What a disappointment. I'm sure most of those that got the passes saw PJ a few times on the last tour as well. I'm bitter at how unfair this all has been. Me N Razor should start a Lemonade Stand.

Around 350k. But man, there had to be 500 pairs of tickets available. Are you telling me there were that many 10C members (able to get online at 1 CST) in Chicago or willing to go there just for that? I suppose a lot of people already planned to be in town for Lollapalooza, but damn it's still super disappointing to do everything right and still get smoked.

It always happens when they have a small show. Amazing.

I saw Chris Cornell tonight. Pretty awesome, obviously, but the crowd was really interesting. Seemed to be a lot more Audioslave fans than Soundgarden fans. Outshined got the loudest response, but the crowd was deathly still during Rusty Cage.

Only one Temple of the Dog song - Hunger Strike, right at the beginning. All in all, a good show, but I think I could have picked a better setlist. Maybe I will sometime.

Dude, you saw Chris Cornell? I went the night before...! Awesome man. Yeah, more Audioslave than Soundgarden. I had my SG shirt on proud (saw them at Lollapalooze in South San Fran back in the early 1990s -- I am old). I know, only one Temple of the Dog, but hey, how many times you get to hear that music? He played it towards the end in my set. To hear Jesus Christ Pose and Outshined and Rusty Cage (and there was one more BadmotorFinger song) live was special. He also sang one of his new solo songs with his two kids on stage (with protective headphones). Kinda cute, since I'm also a dad (although my kids are a lot older).

I guess our musical tastes overlap to a mucho degree, BH, cos I have seen all of these Seattle bands many, many (many) times.

So, you wanna hear a good or lame PJ story? I have a few. Here's the lame one. On new year's eve, at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, circa 1992 or so, there was a special show: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, and some band we never heard of called Pearl Jam. And we were all into the scene. We even blew off this warm-up band drinking shots at the bar, and then just saw Nirvana and RHCP. Unreal right?

On the non-lame side, I wound up seeing PJ many times lateron, at Lollapalooza, at Slim's (which is a freakin bar for a special secret soundcheck type show that may have had 250 people), at the Warfield theater, all around when Ten and the second album came out (early 1990s). Aaaaaaah, I loved those shows.

Eddie will be at the Cubs game singing the 7th inning stretch tomorrow...Aug 3rd.

Was thinking I might see him at our family reunion on Sunday but they are playing Lollapalooza that night so it is probably doubtful though I do suppose he could be at the party early...they usually keep it pretty hush hush whether he will show or not. Will take a pic or two and post if he comes.

BH, AIC reformed last year with Comes the Fall singer William Duvall stepping in for our late, great, Layne Staley. I saw them at the Bowery Ballroom last May (2006) and then again at the Nokia Times Sq Theater in August (2006). They are playing Jones Beach outdoors on Aug. 18 and the nite before at the PNC arts center Aug 17. I'd see them again, but I'm gonna be on a family vaca. They are so freakin aweome. Of course, it aint the same without Layne, but the music is still all AIC, and William Duvall does a decent job singing...and don't forget, Cantrell sings a ton, too...the melodies, the guitars, the harmonies...all there. You gotta go.

Nice. Too bad no show in Manhattan. Looking at Jones Beach on the 18th or possibly the Borgata on the 25th, but I have a week-long vacation starting on the 27th. AIC rules. Do they play any Cantrell solo stuff?

Hi, no, no Cantrell solo stuff. AIC all the way... They do hard and acoustic. The acoustic is special cos Cantrell does a lot of singing on those songs and the harmonies with the lead vocalist is spot on. I remember at the Nokia, they freaking played the first 3 songs in a row from Dirt -- in order! It was like, just, right. Dem Bones, Dam that River, Rain When I Die. They knew the crowd would eat that up. NYers chanting "Jer-ry, Jer-ry" after every song like he was a goalie for the Rangers at the Garden. Just so cool. They played songs from all albums. Lotsa variety. I could go on and on. If you love them, you will love the show. Sure, it is not the same without the distinctive and charismatic Layne, but it's still very good. It's the best you can get as an AIC fan.

My brother-in-law was in a corporate suite at the Cubs' game today and actually got to meet Eddie. They talked for a while and though he mentioned he knows a huge PJ fan, he never picked up the phone and had Eddie talk. I guess it's just as well - I have no idea what I'd say and I'd probably sound like an idiot. Oh well.

I found the setlist for the show tonight:

Set 1 All Or None, Education, Sad, In Hiding, Parachutes, I'm Open, Wishlist, Down, Undone, Off He Goes, Hard To Imagine, Gods' Dice, World Wide Suicide, Rats, Gone, Why Go

Encore 1 No More, Inside Job, Low Light, Love Reign O'er Me

Encore 2 Comatose, Black Diamond, Sonic Reducer

Encore 3 Indifference

Not bad. Low Light, Education, Undone, and I'm Open (some of the rarer songs). Black Diamond is a Kiss cover I don't know, and No More seems to be a newcomer in the last few months. Plus Hard To Imagine, which is always special. In an intimate venue, that seems to be a fantastic show.

That got me thinking. You can view setlist stats on the Ten Club site. Top ten:

Even Flow, Alive, Black, Jeremy, Porch, Daughter, Corduroy, Better Man, Rearviewmirror, Animal. Even Flow is at 607, Animal at 318.

Yellow Ledbetter is way down at 240, at the bottom of a big clump. Rockin In the Free World (204) is the highest cover, and Crazy Mary (117) is next.

All Those Yesterdays, which I saw twice in a week in 1998, has only been played 10 times. World Wide Suicide (86) and Severed Hand (78), are really progressing in just over a year. Garden (117) is the highest song that hasn't been played in 2007.

Interesting stuff.

Yeah, I got 10C tickets to the two MSG shows. I wonder how'll they'll do the lottery for rows 1 and 2. I hope I win.

By the way, today is the anniversary of the most famous concert in the band's history - in Atlanta. 4/3/94. They played Better Man for the first time.

Has the sale to the general public started yet? Is the Camden show sold out? I really need to finally see them.

Saw the first MSG show last night. They still got it. Opened with "Hard To Imagine" which was quite interesting. Also heard "All Night" and "All Along The Watchtower" for the first time. Not bad.

I can't really say Pearl Jam is my favorite band any more. Their aversion to playing Atlanta has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Blue Hen: Would you say this is the year that Pearl Jam has reached The Rolling Stones Steel Wheels tour level of old irrelevance or will that level be reached next year?

They did headline Bonnaroo and a did a set with Jack Johnson who is very relevant at this time. So I'd say they are still doing ok.

I was a little young during the Steel Wheels tour, but I can't imagine it's quite there yet. Yesterday, I waited for 45 minutes in the rain to pick up fan club tickets that were already purchased. And, as noted, they didn't play some of their more popular songs. Could you imagine a Stones show without Satisfaction?

I also have some personal comments for Seattle Zen, but I'll leave them be because I like him.

Also - BH - check the ROH thread, Tree and I had a proposal for you. Tentatively.

I'm just sayin' that Mick and Keith were 44 and 45 back in 1989 when they put together a horrible album called Steel Wheels and toured.

Eddie Vedder is 43 this year... so maybe they aren't there, yet :)

Never liked either band.

I was pretty fond of Self Titled. I definitely think it's more interesting than Steel Wheels. Of course, the Stones did put out some halfway decent stuff AFTER Steel Wheels.

"Someday We'll Go All the Way"
Yeah, don't let them say that it's just a game.
Well, I've seen other teams and it is never the same.
When you go to Chicago, you're blessed and you're healed, The first time you walk into Wrigley Field.

Heroes with pinstripes and heroes in blue, Give us the chance to feel like heroes do.
Whether we'll win and if we should lose, we know Someday we'll go all the way.
Yeah, someday we'll go all the way.

We are one with the Cubs, with the Cubs we're in love.
Hold our heads tall as the underdogs.
We are not fairweather, but farweather fans.
Like brothers in arms, in the suites and the stands.
There's magic in the Ivy and the old score board.
The same one I stared at as a kid keeping score.
In a world full of greed, we could never want more.
Someday we'll go all the way.
Yeah, someday we'll go all the way.

Here's to the men and the legends we've known.
Giving us faith and giving us hope.
United we stand and united we'll fall
Down to our knees the day we win it all.
Yeah Ernie Banks said, "oh, let's play two".
I think he meant two hundred years.
Playing at Wrigley, our diamond, our jewel.
The home of our joy and our fears.
Keeping traditions, and wishes anew,
The place where our grandfathers' fathers they grew.
The spiritual feeling if I ever knew.
And when the day comes for that last winning run, and I'm crying and covered with beer.
I look to the sky and know I was right today.
Someday we'll go all the way.
Yeah, someday we'll go all the way.

WOW.

This might deserve it's own thread. That's really awesome. I was actually in Chicago that day and went to the game at Wrigley the day before, when Eddie "caught" the first pitch from Chris Chelios. This is a great listen - I downloaded the MP3 so I'll have it.

HUGE news.

The TEN album will be reissued on March 24, in FOUR different versions! There will be official releases of Brother, Just A Girl, and Goat. Goat! I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to buy all four of them, and will any luck, they'll be $25 or more a pop. I hope the economy is doing better by then.

On the newly-redesigned Ten Club website, they said this was the first step in an attempt to re-issue several albums between now and the 20th anniversary in 2011. (Although we all know the first show was on Oct 22, 1990, NOT 1991).

Price for the Super Deluxe edition: $140.

It includes 2 CDs (Original Ten with extra songs and Remastered Ten), 4 LPs (Both live shows - one is MTV unplugged), and a tape (the original demo). I think there's some other stuff in there.

TBD is East Rutherford, NJ. I'm skipping. Also likely skipping Hartford, although a friend has tickets and invited me.

I have tickets to both MSG shows, one of which is on my birthday. They had tenclub pre-sales and two ticketmaster presales, and it really seems like they are trying to help people get to the shows.

Razor, that sucks about Atlanta. One of their most famous concerts was there in 1994 and I saw them (2nd row!) in 1998.
