How could Kevin Lowe charge Mike Comrie $2.5M before he would trade him? The Oilers aren't that strapped by cash that they need to find revenue from their own players, are they? Is the NHLPA okay with that? |

It looks like the contract negociation went bad.
Revenge must be Lowe fisrt motivation.

Honestly, the way Comrie has treated the Oilers I'm on Lowe's side on this one. He's a hometown kid, going into 3rd NHL season after regressing during his 2nd season, and he demands 5 mil a year. Lowe offered 3 mil, and he said no? Fine, rot at home then.

Okay, here's how it is:
The Oilers were forced to pay $7.5 million in the last 3 years because of rights issues and bonuses.
The apparent "done deal" that so many sources were claiming was that Mike Comrie would be traded to Anaheim for Corey Perry and a 1st rounder in 2004.
It doesnt take a rocket scientist to see Edmonton would be getting screwed on this deal, so Lowe had to sweeten it for him without adding players, since Anaheim is insistant on keeping Lupul and Chistov, whom Lowe wanted in the first place.
