Subject: Post Christmas 12/26 Trading

I got all kinds of holes to fill and not enough trades to address it all... I am sure we are all in the same boat...
I pumped out a month long schedule breakdown which I will use as my pool of players, looking for some long term holds to help catch up on trades.

From 12/26 to 1/26
Best #s of games include

Team Total

CAR 17
PIT 17
NAS 17
DAL 17
NYR 17
TAM 17
COL 17
BUF 17
MIN 17
STL 16
SAN 16
OTT 16
NJD 16
LOS 16
CGY 16
VAN 16
CBJ 16
NYI 16
EDM 16
ANA 16
PHI 16
WAS 15

Obviously some of these teams have holes here and there in their schedules... but it gives me a starting point.

I know I gotta move any ATL players left, as well as Red Wings soon thereafter...

just wanna get the discussion fired up for Post holiday roster positioning.

The Atlanta schedule is great from the 8th until the 31st; be prepared to get back in then. I have Alfredsson in Kovalchuk's slot, and Doan in Savard's slot. To get rid of Atlanta players, look for guys that have good schedule's until the 7th or 8th.

The problem I am working on is what to do with extra cash that my plans show I will have during the middle of January. I already picked up Rob Blake (Colorado has an excellent schedule until January 30th) to use some money, but with Kiprusoff, Donovan, Spezza, and Nash, and planning to move down to Savard and Kovalchuk, I foresee having almost 8 million dollars left over. I am almost hoping Calgary will force me to move Kiprusoff to a more expensive goaltender. Anyone have any suggestions on top notch players to look at for the January 8th to the 31st?

I hope Kippy keeps this going. He is allowing me to conserve some trades and let me use all of my cash for the big guys on offense.

Palffy will become Forsberg this next week, and I already have Naslund for a nice 1-2 combo at wing. I'm going to try and just max it out offensively, and I'm going to stay away from the D upgrades that I originally planned on. Vancouver and Colorado both having great schedules at the same time won't allow it as I want to load up on as many of those studs as I can.

I'll pick up Gary Roberts on a few of my teams. If Forsberg and Tkachuk get back I may try Nabokov and Kiprusoff as my goalies on a couple other teams and go with Naslund/Bertuzzi/Forsberg/Tkachuk as my wingers. Still undecided on what to do with Datsyuk. I may just follow the crowd and trade him for Doan or get Morrison.

smallwhirled, are you trading out of players who actually have a game on the 26th into others who have games on the same day? Aggressive strategy, but I can see how you would want Forsberg and Sakic badly.

I am considering trading Datsyuk and Shanny for Forsberg and Sakic but am $300k short. Aaargh. I can make one move straight ($2.9M in cash), and would likely opt for Forsberg, if he is ready.

Datsyuk could face a price hit, and while he has one less game than some other centers over the next two weeks, 5 of 7 are at home and I would hope that he can continue his solid scoring. With Yzerman and others back from injury though, it may not be as easy as it was before. Not sure what to do here.

Might go Datsyuk > Forsberg after the game on Friday. All depends on if Forsberg is healthy and how Datsyuk performs.

On defence I'll probably be going Tanabe > Sopel or Ohlund tonight. Phoenix's schedule is starting to slow down while Vancouver is heating up. They're starting to score more and the schedule is better now.

Any other suggestions on the blue line? (I'm playing Basic here)

Best case scenario for me is Fosrberg to not be ready. I wouldn't mind going Nagy > Forsberg in the morning but there is no way I can afford that...my only out to Forsberg is Palffy, and he has a 4 in 6. I went into Sakic early and it paid off with the hatty before the break, and already have Naslund as well.

Interesting out of the gate...Tkachuk is iffy, and will definitely take more $$ hits. The Red Wings are also going to tumble, but how many trades is it going to take to get rid of these guys, and who is going to be able to afford Col/Van players? Lots of ground can be made up here.

Here's a question....An extra Zidlicky game or a the net $$ off going Zidlicky > Leopold now. I'm leaning toward the money. Screw points, give me the RV. ;)

Had 10 trades banked, and needed to shake up my team, so i made the following moves:

Hackett-->Kipper
Zidlicky-->Leopold
Zetterberg-->Tkachuk
Spezza-->Sakic

I was considering dealing Datsyuk for Sakic, but he's been on fire so I gambled and hope that he continues his hot streak... hopefully the $$$ hit isn't too bad.

Thanks J and Smallwhirled. Hmmm. If I moved Zidlicky to Leopold, I would:

+ avoid some $ losses
+ get some gains
+ get an extra million in cash for other moves

Seems like a trade that needs to get done.

Then, I can consider Shanny to Forsberg, when Peter returneth and Datsyuk to Sakic (tomorrow or in 3 days or maybe not until after a week or so...I'll have to check the markets on Pavel going forward; I like his schedule, but fear the breadth of scoring that Detroit has).

Tkachuk doesn't look like such a horrible sell today, he shouldn't do to well $$ wise I'm assuming but he should be back soon, if not today and we all know what he can do.

The Naslund, Forsberg, Palffy triplets are all mine on my C team, I don't think anyone can afford that combo without using a ton of trades to get there.

Hunter -> Kovalchuk...

I'll make it over 70 million today.. I'm sitting just 60k short.....

Whoa, guess I was a little drunk in post 11. ;) At least I managed to make those planned trades correctly.

I probably would've waited to on Forsberg if I was trading from someone who played tonight, but Nagy (and PHO) are one of only 8 teams not playing tonight, so if Forsberg maintains what Rotoworld is saying (returning either tonight or tomorrow) I'll have lost no games. Might even gain one, if he's able to go tonight.

Thanks Shmacky, there's been some luck involved. Kippy early but only because I've always believed in the 1 cheap goalie strategy. Shanny and Palffy were nice month + long holds that helped me use my trades in other places. My run is coming earlier that usual this year, it always happens because I always have the RV but I just got lucky a little earlier than usual this year. My chances are better than most that I'll stay up there if the studs perform solidy in the second half.

You've been prety damn solid lately yourself, and there are lots of gurupies that have been making good runs this past month...they are always notable in the last 5 standings.

ESDNHL back on top baby.

May the combined trio of Naslund/Forsberg/Tkachuk shower us with many many points. :)

I considered it for a fleeting moment, but decided not to make the move... Was going to get Lalime for 2 games and then go back to Brodeur after missing one game and what could be some losses over the next 4-5 days..

Don't have any solid ideas for Illya, so I'll hold for the Detroit game....

I am short on trades, that is the primary reason. I'm not too good with goalie, that chances are pretty good that I'll make the move to the wrong player.

I just scanned your team. Not much out there for Kovalchuk already having Naslund, Forsberg, and Tkachuk. In fact, I couldn't find 1 stud that was even a decent pick IMO.

He'll likely lose a little tomorrow on game day too.. The thing was, no one really jumped out at me as a must have that was in my price range (couldn't afford Forsberg)... I considered Guerin, but it was pushing the noon deadline, so I went with Guru's if in doubt rule... I had two of the top 5 losers today and still went up 130 in total.... Not too bad considering...

Plus I also have a bias towards going with anyone other than a Naslund/Forsberg combo regardless of how cold they are. I'm just saying I like the chances of them beating the other options.

Great One - Datsyuk to Savard would work, except that I am trying to avoid any dollar loss that Datsyuk will absorb after his B2B; and Sundin's games are against Pittsburgh and Nashville - hoping for big points. I do realize that the extra trade I am using might be wasted here, but I just have a hunch on those Sundin games.

SW, I was watching your team the other night when all your studs played. Ouch! They are definitely due.

This is messed up! I used to worry about the center position but now I'm staying put with Weight, Sakic and Morrison not knowing how I'm going to get Savard in that mix over the next 2 1/2 weeks. I guess the boys better buckle down, show up and score points or I won't hesitate to send 'em down. On team Smackrat we won't accept anything but their best!

smallwhirled: Savard may not be the nice pickup anymore since he left yesterday's game early. Keep your ears open.

Savard left Saturday's game against the Canadiens in the second period after suffering a mild concussion, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Thrashers hope that Savard won't miss any significant time but as is the case with concussions, you can never really tell.

Was wondering why he wasn't out there for the 3rd. The Habs were pounding him all night with big hits, in retaliation of Savard's elbow to Koivu.

He does have 4 days off now though, so he should have time to recover. Even if he doesn't, he'll just be that much more cheaper when he gets back. Those of you planning on Datsyuk -> Savard are hurt though obviously. My Sundin or Morrison -> Savard can be postponed a while though...

Just saw reports Sakic will miss today's game and is day to day with a fractured bone in his jaw or something to that extent. Probable for Tuesday's game. Don't ask for a link because I don't have one just saw it on TSN. Apparetnly he took a puck to the face Friday.

Sakic Sidelined with Jaw Injury; Larsen Recalled
(1/4/2004)

Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic will be sidelined day-to-day with a fractured jaw sustained Wednesday night in Calgary. He is listed as probable for Tuesday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
A further examination performed by the Avalanche medical staff revealed the need for a procedure to take place, which Sakic underwent on Saturday.

In a related move, forward Brad Larsen has been recalled from the Club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Hershey Bears. In 21 games with the Bears to date, Larsen has notched four goals and 12 assists with 40 penalty minutes and a +9 plus/minus rating.

This marks the second recall of the season for Larsen, who played eight games in his previous stint with the Avalanche. He recorded no points on his prior recall and was forced to miss 10 games due to a groin injury.

Rotoworld says that Sakic intends to play tomorrow with a football style helmet and cites the Denver Post. However, when I go to the Denver Post, I don't quite see that story. Here is what is printed in today's Denver Post:

Check that, Rotoworld cited the Rocky Mountain News, which indeed confirms that Sakic and the coach expect him to play tomorrow:

Marleue -> Comrie tomorrow, should be a huge money maker
Sundin/Spezza -> Weight on the 9th/10th

I'm going to stick with Sakic, because I don't like any of the alternatives. I already have Sundin and Weight. Lang is no longer scoring. Datsyuk has a bad long term schedule. Doan, Thornton and Roenick don't play the next two days. Savard and Modano are injured. I'll take the money loss if there is any from holding Sakic.

I'm going to hold Sakic. Next game is at Columbus, and the only guy I'd want to trade into is Comrie, and he's off for two days. (Already have Sundin.) I'll eat the losses.

Sakic +70k when he is injured, then -160k when it is announced that he will play the next game. I'm never going to understand this game.

He plays tomorrow so his losses should be done. With Kariya coming back soon (maybe even tomorrow) he could end up being a great hold.

with as much as he lost today.. i would be surprised if he doesn't lose a little more tomorrow... Than even if he plays, he'd better score a few points to stop further losses the next day
