Geez, Danny Markov? If Williams was that easy to get, MacT shouldve atleast made an offer, like Tommy Salo..

Philadelphia had to have a D-man, with their injuries. Carolina thinks it had an extra d-man, and continues to get younger. But the Hurricanes need a goal scorer, and I just don't see Williams as being that kind of player. Listening to the Hurricanes fans on the call in show before last night's game, they were perplexed as to why give up Markov (their best defensemen) for another young winger who seems to be a grinder type of player. Reports from Philly that I heard was why give up on Williams, who at 22 years old, was a big part of the future Flyers. Seems like fans from both sides think they got less than value in the trade.

Williams played with Staal, so perhaps the Hurricanes' plan is to build a line that they can keep together for the next 10 years. This trade will need to be evaluated at the end of the year for the Flyers (did the defense hold up and get them deep into the playoffs); and for Carolina the question to be answered is did they find a goal scorer in Williams?
