He never played with Kovalchuk last year, except on the powerplay. They're both puck-moving guys who like to control the puck themselves, so there's little reason why they should frustrate each other and have only 1 good line, instead of two.

another reason to separate them is, Atlanta isn't exactly loaded with talent, so spreading the wealth isn't such a bad idea!
They do play together on the PP though. Heatley had over 8mins on the PP and almost 23 minutes overall.
He looked pretty rusty though, he'll get it back.
