he will be active in the league and works on a computer for a living so he will be around to draft.

I just sent the league info to last season's managers (excluding those who have already signed up and StLCards). Perhaps by the end of the week we'll have a better idea who's returning.

Doom, it's your call on which new/replacement managers to invite.

Little M,

Have you received your activation email from Kafenatid yet. If not you might try the feedback link at kafenatid.

Currently we have 8 signed up, have not heard from Dan, Twarpy, Toral, quick, Thinkbig and Challenger.

Doom,

Two managers from my other Yahoo! baseball league (the one where my team is actually doing well) are very interested in hockey. If you think there will still be room available in this group and you want to invite them, let me know and I'll send them the necessary info.

Twarpy said "I'm in" (post 11 above) but has not yet signed up for the league.

I have not seen or heard anything from Chickachu, we are at twelve, with Dan still promising to show up, so we need either Chickachu to show up, someone else from the old guard or one new volunteer.

After that happens we will commence as soon as we can. I will set the order at the earliest possible moment, and then we begin.

Looks like we will end the night 9 minutes short of jakerbelly having his clock run out. I would be in favor of moving the clock to a 3 hour (or even a two hour) clock.

The managers (newer ones for the most part) in this league do not exhibit any respect for the other managers by continuing to not communicate with the league (over the Guru boards or any other way). They do not leave queues nor do they post when they expect to be away from the boards. Apparently uther44 is not aware that a draft, albeit a very slow draft, is underway.

I would not object to reforming the league with fewer managers who actually want to conduct an orderly, courteous timely draft (probably requires an expansion of the rosters). My guess is that a manager who is not able (fails to) provide timely draft picks will not be active in the league as to setting rosters, much less responding to trade offers. We have more than one in the current league. Another option would be to find a replacement manager for me.

So far this draft has been much like immediate past non-season experienced by the NHL. Frustrating...disappointing...dulls the enjoyment of the (this) game. The difference is...we can fix this.

OK..end of rant. Gee, is my frustration showing or what. I am going to try and get some sleep.

Got up to get a drink..and found I was up. Pick made.

Nothing changes from my post #71. I'm even more irratated. So that I wouldn't have wasted my evening sitting at the computer, Jakerbelly could have posted that he would be gone 'till 10 EST..or that he needed a few hours to make his pick..or that..what the hell, we both made our picks.

Like I said, another option is to replace my tired unforgiving a$$.

I am not a good person for continuing to pick on just one manager as I am about to do on Jakerbelly, but the elapsed time for the round 2 pick and the unmade round 3 pick is 7 plus hours (of course that excludes the draft pause). Their first round pick, before we had a clock, took almost 2o something hours.

Unacceptable. I reurge my "lets get rid" of some of these managers who can neither leave a queue (the benifit of using the kafenatid.net "On the Clock" draft software), nor a message that they will be away for the night or in the alternative let's get rid of me.

I am fine with either result. I doubt that jakerbelly cares either way were he/she to know that there was a problem. Or maybe whomever invited them into the league can coerce a contact phone number for the time they post on the boards that they will be absent for some extended period of time should they be incapable of leaving a queue.

If I have this straight....we as a league today, have done 15 picks in 12 hours including the 4 hour no pick caused by Dan's absence this afternoon. Jakerbelly has failed to get three picks in within the 31 hours he has been on the clock.

The lack of response on these boards to my overt critisizm of Jelly...no make that Jakerbelly (JB)and the continued excessive time for JB to make picks confirm that this manager is neither a class act nor a considerateof fellow managers. JB must think that this is another Yahoo public league and that manners, promptness and communication are neither required nor expected.

Am I beating a dead horse here? Let's $hit or get off the pot.

Queue left with Doom.

Tax, while I'm pretty frustrated with the current pace, I realize it is the weekend. The other draft has been stalled for two days by one picker who is likely away for the weekend. If this pace keeps up during the week though, we'll have to do something...

Sorry for continuing rant R9. You are the one standing by with next pick. Actually with exception for the "bologna" to yours and my sandwich, the draft has picked up quite nicely.

Dr Doom do you have the R9 next pick? Doesn't really make much difference as the next manager has run the draft clock the max amount each time they have drafted (round 3 was cute...ran 3:15 hrs before draft pause last night, them drafted this morning at 8:45 = exactly 4 hours) meaning that we are through for the night.

Doom...if he has no queue..and is going to miss his pick...put aholder in for him .... ie Goldie Hawn....Bobby Orr..etc. That will allow the clock to run on Jaker, who is prohibited by the Kafenatid software of making a pick before R9 picks or times out.

You have to enter something to allow Jaker to draft.

I accidentally (sort of) clicked on the stop draft button, then when I restarted, the clock was reset to 4 hours. At that point, I decided to make some kind of pick so we wouldn't have to wait 4 hours.

I was torn about making this pick, Rogue has been good, but after I screwed up the clock, I didn't want to wait an additional period of time.

KKB, perhaps you could put a "are you sure" thing in there, I didn't know if that link would send me to a new page or what, oops. But that is a tough one, I hate extra pages, just for the sake of having them. My screw up for sure, I was hoping to find some other method of expiditing the draft.

#117 isles72..my bad. I did your ck you draft thru round 6 and Satan (at the top of my draft list at the time) was the only RW you had drafted. You did say the que was for Round 6, but did not say "only". I was not aware of the time when I pulled the trigger. I am sorry and will not expand or interpret next time. Guess I had some fool notion that I could get a pick in before I left town in the morning. A stoooopid thought on my part.

I would like to turn the clock off on the weekend, but we are barely even now projected to beat the start of the season. Dan and Twarpy, it would be nice if you could send queues.

If we start sliding, back into the season for a start, I will drop the clock to a lesser limit.

The teams should be mostly up to date on the Yahoo site as well. If you could check that I have not screwed up any of the teams so far, that would be appreciated as well.

Doom, if you turn off the clock for the weekend and we get stuck on an absent manager, that sets up the potential for no picks being made for two days. I'd rather keep the clock ticking and settle for a little progress rather than none at all.

Back from 9 on the feet. Danm, that concrete is hard on the back and soles. I am off for 10 hours..but tomorrow it is 11 hours.ugg.

Seems that the queue I left had zero impact on moving the draft forward. DD, my sugestion is that you go to a shorter clock now, rather than after the w/e. Dan and Twarpy are not leaving cues or contact numbers causing 8 hour stall each time they come up to pick. If the clock was cut to two hours, we would only loose 4 hours and the rest of the managers who are drafting are savy enough to leave queues or contact numbers.

Anotherway to look at it is that with a 9 hour pause and completing 1 round a day, in 15 hours, we are losing 8 hours to the double Dan/Twarpy time out, and the other 12 managers make their selections (timely) in the other 7 hours (avg of 30 min. per pick). What am I missing here.

btw..thanks for entering the pick off my queue this morning.

OK...

Another day and more timed out draft picks....but they can come back in and fill in their picks later. This draft has motivated me to ask Fred to add an option for the League Commissioner that, if elected, a manager that runs the draft clock forfeits the missed draft pick, and is simultaneously awarded a draft pick at the end of the draft. It is bad enough that the managers running the draft clock are allowed to come back in...at their leisure (which is usualyy within a few hours of when their draft time expired) and select a player for the elapsed draft pick. I would like to see this option limited in application until an offending manager has allowed clock to run at least one time w/o penalty.

There currently is no penalty for the blatantly impolite drafting practices of the offending managers. There should be a reward for every action and intentional in-action.

I was talking with someone else about the same penalty. I agree with you 100% taxman. One missed pick no penalty the rest must be picked at the end of the draft!! I am currently waiting for someone to pick in another draft. The clock is turned off for the weekend and he is now on the clock for over 25 hours. And this is not the first time it has happened with him.

The queue was sent to PFB through the Kafenatid Queue Management system. A copy was not sent to Dr. Doom because he did not say that he was available for queues. I try not to send queues to people unless they have said that they want to receive them.

Since we are in round 12, with four rounds remainings, that adds up to 8 additional hours of waiting for these two, probably is not going to save us 2 days.

I will change the clock at the start of the next round with my first pick. That is your advance notice.

Invitations sent to somw managers in this league (let me know asap if you didn't get one and you are interested) for a yahoo 10 team h2h live draft to be held tomorrow @ 6:30 PM EST that is a shallow league (only 17 position players and a 5 man bench for 220 draft picks) leaving lots of weekly waiver action for injuries or if you want to play the "how many games a week can i get in" strategy

...hope some of you join.

Interesting that with shorter clock in ATHS league we are still experiencing @ 8 hrs/day of clock timed out missed picks. Wonder if there is a REAL solution to this problem. Never seen anything like it.

So what should I do, invalidate the previous 6 rounds since a non-Yahoo player has been picked, and we can go through this again.

It's rather frightening to learn that jaker and I were of the same thinking (i.e., monitoring Yahoo! for Ovechkin's name to appear). My opinion, for what it's worth: Drafting a player not currently in the Yahoo! pool constitutes an invalid pick; it circumvents one of the rules: the waiver wire process. Award make-up selections when the manager's next turn in the draft occurs, but not before.

I knew early on that we would be able to pick anyone. No problem here with leaving them on the teams that drafted them.

I had the same understanding as PFB, that everyone was available to be picked. That is how it worked two years ago, when Hasek wasn't on the Yahoo list. Otherwise, it can give the team with the first waiver selection a huge advantage.

lil M, That's why the waiver wire order is set the way it is. It gives the team that drafted last first choice to claim waivered players. When they use it they go to the back of the line. PB, could you share exactly how you "knew". It wasn't communicated to me. Whatever the group decides is fine, IMHO I think using the waiver wire aspect adds another element to the draft.

I have to believe that something like this would have to be set before the draft began. If all do not understand the basic rules of a coordinated effort such as this, it should then revert back to what is the norm for any draft in an online league. Otherwise, what would be the reasoning behind the waiverwire? That would be as Moose has explained. I fear however that there may be no way to be completely "just" in any decision made now to correct this.
As for the luck of the waiverwire positioning, it's part of any league you get into that does not have a previous year standings to base a draft on - you get lucky, and it usually is the reverse order of the draft. The waiverwire first position was always a way to off-set the poor luck of having the last pick in the draft. :)

IMHO (Always have to include the small print)

ATHS has exsisted for a few years now and we use the same ground rules for every draft. It never even occurred to me that we would NOT be able to draft anyone we wanted because we have ALWAYS been able to do so. Now I understand that the new people to our group probably did not know that but all the people who have been with us should have known that.
This far into the draft I am not sure there is anything that can be done to solve this problem other than go on. Sorry to all those who missed out but we have been drafting since round 8 with players being taken who are not listed in yahoo. that pick would have been made last week.

Memory refresher:

Brian, if I recall correctly, ATHS began as an autopick league with quite a few of your Philly-area chums. The second year, we went to an offline draft; I believe KKB was in that group and the main gripe was that we had no limit on player acquisitions (one team made nearly as many roster changes as the rest of the league combined). In neither instance did we draft players who were not already in the Yahoo! pool.

For the 2003-2004 season, we drafted here, using Doom's nifty little tool. The issue of selecting athletes "off the board" arose with such players as Pitkanen and Fleury, the Pens' goalie, and it was argued at length. This deviation from Yahoo! rules is unfair to teams at the end of the draft order, who should be entitled "first dibs" on players as they are added to the game, and, unless agreed upon in advance of the draft, should not be allowed to occur.

Doom, if you permit the draft to stand as it is, at the very least you should drop the teams who "jumped the wire" to the very bottom of the waiver order.

Mario as always you are correct and I stand corrected. I was viewing some of the old ATHS threads and I did find an instance where we talked about players not in the yahoo database and we did not allow people to take them. I know i have been in many leagues were we were able to draft anyone and I must have confused those leagues with this one.

I still think restarting the draft or making someone lose a player they picked rounds ago is a tough thing to do at this point, I do however, like your idea of moving them down the WW priority list.

As a new person to this draft, not to some of you I have matched sports fantasy teams with in the past, I would have to defer to those "who know" about past practices.

The core group will decide the fate of this I'm sure. Enjoy, maybe the offending players will simply break a leg :)

I can see arguments for both sides of this discussion. From a draft perspective, no one is getting an unfair draft. Picking 1st and 28th is about as bad as it gets, at least that is my view.

Going back in my memory to the Hasek year, although it didn't exactly pan out as I recall, Hasek had a less than stellar year, a pick like that, if it works swings the balance way the other way. The last pick has one position on his roster, that could be a solid lock on his roster and can draft to fill other positions with quality players, so you could in essense get 3 first round picks.

As for those the do get picked, Pitkanen, Fleury, Ruutu, I don't know that any of them stayed on a roster for the season.

Also, I am mildy annoyed that Yahoo has only Crosby entered into the list of available players. When I gathered my list of Yahoo players on the day the draft started, Crosby was not there. When I made my second and third pick, he was not there, before I get my next pick, he shows up and Moose nabs him. Is that any more "fair".

Pavel Datsyuk, threatens to play in Russia and gets bypassed for almost 4 rounds. An hour after he's rumoured to sign. He's picked. Is that fair or fortunate.

There is absolutely no chance of pleasing everyone in these drafts. If we want to be limited as to how we draft, lets do it online. If we want to do whatever we want, the slow (very slow) offline is seems to be an option for that.

This is in large part my fault. I should have remembered the trials we endured in the last one and didn't, apologies to all.

Okay, I finished the draft, there are still some outstanding draft issues. I had contemplated starting our season on the second week, so I could get the contentious picks on their respective teams, also making the first week a full week, rather than a 4 day week.

That's not going to happen so everyone needs to be on their best behavior in the coming waiver draft. The following are out of bounds except for their appointed owners.

Alexander Ovechkin
Jeff Carter
Brandon Bochenski
Vojtech Polak
Thomas Vanek

Doom, what's to become of jaker's draft pick for Vojtech Polak? The player was sent down to Iowa of the AHL.

Not to overwork the issue (#205) ... but Crosby was in the Yahoo! pool before our draft began. I downloaded a player list on 9/4 and his name was there (O-Rank of 458). Yahoo! shows him as being added to the game on 8/18.
