I posed this question to KKB and Barilko yesterday and got some great feedback... just curious if anyone else had any opinions.

In a work league we are arguing the importance of penalty minutes being used in scoring. Its a league of guys who don't know too much hockey and don't fully understand why penalty minutes are included. "then why don't we count holding call's in football" is a typical statement for which I am not completely equipped to answer as I am only a passive hockey fan... I know penalty minutes are valuable to reward players who protect the stars and who aren't neccessarily the big scorers but have a different job to do.

thoughts, comments, opinions on the value of PIM's? thanks - GO

it depends on the size of the league you are creating - if its a deep league , adding penalty minutes into your scoring forumla gives some value to players who would normally not be seen as valuable to own .

also , if its just ''fighting '' PIMS you want to have , there are some stat services which will only count those minutes as opposed to the other calls like tripping,holding,etc..etc..
