The Dunham thing sucked for me. At the time I thought it was worth the gamble, but it'd didn't work out.

For now I'm going to wait until Forsberg is done with his 3 in 4, and then downgrade to get a decent goalie for Dunham at that time...

Looking at all of the goalies, beginning on Sunday, I don't see a heck of a lot of options that I like. Kinda sucks, goalie is just horrible this year.

That day is also sell Philly/Ottawa day, and I will probably get some LA, Atl, or Ana guys.

I am moving from LeCavalier/Prospal to Datsyuk/Zetterberg ...... Detroits sched just looks too appealing especially at home against the Blues on Sat night. And yes I never spend less than 12m for my two goalies. I have gained over a 1000 extra points in that position alone in my league TSN_10 and have a 1500pts lead on the #2 guy.

I'm thinkin of just keepin my 2 goalies (Markkanen & Kiprusoff) and then goin Forsberg/Spezza>Williams, Gagne/Heatley>Zetterberg on Sunday

Which 2 guys do I want to keep, and which 2 do I trade? hmmm

Could also go

Forsberg>Savard, Heatley>Kovalchuk today... and then Spezza>Williams and then Gagne>Zetterberg on Sunday....

4 trades? Yes, I'm a tradeaholic.. I have to decide in like an hour if I want to do this

#2, has that 12 mil really gained you pts compared to teams that had Labs? I'd gladly fork over the money to buy an expensive goalie, if I could find one with a decent schedule who also doesn't completely suck. It seems like my choices are sub 3-mil suckiness, or over 3 mil suckiness. Maybe I'll just go Hasek and leave the position be for the next 4 months.

damn, I wanted to pick up some ATL guys today but I forgot about it until it was almost too late. I made a couple of hasty trades, Forsberg > Savard but couldn't decide who to trade away to get Kovalchuk in time. Oh well. I hope the Savard trade works out.

All the downward move was from folks pitching whatever they had overboard to pick up Kovalchuk. The fewer people that have Jagr for his next hatty the better.

Agreed Beezer. Trading away the top point getter who has 3 in 4 coming up is not how to win this game IMO.

Moving Labarbera earlier this week may have been a blessing in disguise, as i was able to pick up a some TSNP and a cool +500K on the deal. More importantly however, the trade i burned on him prevented me from making a planned Crosby -> Conroy move the other day, allowing me to capitalize on the Kid's 3 pt night tonight, and giving me more time to evaluate exit options from him.

Spent a while formulating a plan for the next week... Was real tough, but i think this may work.

Crosby -> Staal/Conroy (Today)
Spezza -> Savard (11/18)
Gagne/Heatley -> Kovalchuk (TBD, probably Sunday)
Grahame -> Labarbera

Planning to keep Forsberg due to his low ownership and propensity to pick up many, many points. Can't decide which of the big East wingers i want to dump for Kovalchuk... I'll have a bit more time to decide. Prospal and Jagr stay until at least next week. I wanted to move Crobsy for Thornton, but the funds just don't work out right... Can't decide between Staal or Conroy. Staal has little to no upside on the RV side of things, but he's a hat trick to happen, a far greater scoring threat than Conroy, in my opinion. Then again, Conroy also plays on a good line and has played well of late... Input on this would nice. As for Labarbera, he should sustain one more day of losses, then rebound when managers find that he's returned from his hiatus. I'm not ready to commit big dollars to my goalies just yet, not with Kovalchuk coming on board and Forsberg still occupying 9m.

With LaBarbera Gone, Garon Finding a Rhythm
By Jerry Crowe, Times Staff Writer

With Jason LaBarbera still away from the team Wednesday while tending to what the Kings called a family matter, Mathieu Garon is expected to make his fourth consecutive start in goal Thursday night against the Vancouver Canucks.

Which, of course, is perfectly fine with Garon, who won two of the last three while stopping 82 of 89 shots.

The more you play, the easier it gets," said Garon, who stopped 23 shots in Tuesday night's 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators. "You feel better about each game. You get into a rhythm. Mentally, if you have a bad game, then have to wait to play again, you start thinking too much. Physically, you can work in practice, but it's never going to be like a game situation."

LaBarbera left his teammates behind Monday in Nashville.

"We kind of thought he might be at practice today," Coach Andy Murray said after Wednesday's short workout in El Segundo.

When he wasn't, the Kings again put out a call for minor league goaltender Adam Hauser, who flew in from Manchester, N.H., before Tuesday's game to back up Garon. Hauser was en route back to Manchester on Wednesday when his flight was diverted because of inclement weather. The Kings reached him in Providence, R.I., and summoned him anew. He was due to arrive in Los Angeles late Wednesday.

The Kings weren't sure when LaBarbera would return.

"We want that to be his priority," Murray said of the goaltender's family obligations. "He just needs to deal with that."

Really not that happy with everything right now, but this is the best scenario that I could come up with.

Gagne > Frolov
Dunham > Gerber
Spezza > Savard (tommorrow)

Leaves me with 2 trades and Foppa/Alfie, but out of the Phi/Ott guys, at least I have the 2 most holdable.

Would like to get Jagr for a quick 4 in 6, can't. Would like to fit in Thornton today, can't.

My original move was to get cash from Foppa and then do a full goalie upgrade, but I just can't find the right stud goalie right now. Nothing that jumps out to me, so I just did Gerber for the money. Oh well.

Why not wait till after tomorrow game to go Gagne to Frolov? PHI plays ATL tomorrow, 7 or 8 Philly goes against ATL is not out of the question. Unless you really need the money today to go Grahame to Gerber

I think I'll go

Spezza>Savard tomorrow
Fosberg>Thornton on Sunday

Then I realized today that Philly, Ottawa & Atlanta all have 3 games this week, so I don't have to move Gagne or Heatley into Kovalchuk until next Thursday, the 24th..

Who would be the best pick up for a Goalie. I have Lundquist and want to get rid of him...(i already have Legace)

Possibilites are :
Gerber = I think has the best long term sched
MArkanen = I like the teams he plays against
Biron = up and down buffalo team
Garon = With Labarbera coming back....?

Any help would be appreciate. I am having the worst time moving up in the standings !

I don't think people are going to freak out unless there is something concrete that says Staal is out in this case. There are too many trades to be made right now with the Phi/Ott dump.

If something conrete comes out, then obviously, sell him with whatever you got.

Did Spezza > Savard as planned.

Flyers play the defenseless 'uins.

Bruins play the Sabres, backstopped by Mika "The Cougar" Noronen.

Forsberg's average, last 7 days: 41,5 TSNP.
Thornton's average, last 7 days: 9,5 TSNP.

Did I mention "The Cougar" -aspect already?

Yes. It really scares me that a whopping 9 teams have allowed more goals that Buffalo. Buffalo is a defence powerhouse with your cougar goalie and his powerful 7.37 GAA and .765 SV%...

Okay, I lost a lot of $ but managed to get 284 points from my money losers. Time to trade my sens and flyers.
Problem is that most of the RV has been made and I'm stuck with leftovers.
Wing:
Gagne->Prospal
Heatly->Bertuzzi, or Tanguay

Center:
Spezza-> Thornton, Conroy, or a player from some team that's playing the next 2 in 3.

Option 3 would involve trading again to pick up a Leaf at center for their upcoming 6/9 but I don't think it's worth 2 trades. 8/11 seems tempting....

Boston has a strong schedule and Thornton would be a good fit if and when Boston could turn it around.

Decisions decisions...I better sleep on it.

11/25 Jagr->Heatly

The only problem with McCabe is that he's a short ride. He's only got a 4 in 15 after that, would you plan on holding during that?

42The Dienasty
      ID: 132591
      Sun, Nov 20, 2005, 01:25
No, i agree it would be a short ride, but the potential TSNP spike he could provide may be worth it. I guess it depends on ones RV situation, how many trades it would take to allocate the funds needed for a 6m D-man, and if you can afford to burn the trades needed to get in and out...

IMO, a comination of Svatos/McCabe beats Prospal/Cheap D, but this isn't a long term situation, and could hurt a team in the long run. I don't think it will work in my plans, but someone else might gamble on it...

How you view McCabe comes down to how you interpret the schedule, which looks good for McCabe but really just comes up as a wash. I think I'll keep Pitakanen.

As of Nov 20th
Week 6:
McCabe - 1 game
Pitkanen - 1 game
Week 7:
McCabe - 4 games
Pitaken - 4 games

I didn't quite mean Pitkanen when i used the term "Cheap D", more along the lines of a Baumgartner or Gleason, for those in that position. I wouldn't ever reccommend dropping a Pitkanen or Visnovsky calibre player in this scenario.

Been thinking of it too. Right now my options would be:

Today: Gagne -> Frolov
Today: Heatley -> Jagr
Wednesday: Zhitnik -> Mccabe for his 7 in 11

Or as I had planned,

Today: Gagne -> Prospal
Today: Heatley -> Jagr
and just bank the other trade.

By going with option 2, if Labs is back in action, with the new trades I could downgrade the mediocre Legace and uprade to Mccabe for his Friday game and get his 6 in 9.

I think Jagr is a must, so Prospal/Frolov is out of the question there. Also, Prospal should make the most money now that his schedule is kickin for 8 days. (5 games) Annoyingly, I can't swing Mccabe/Jagr/Prospal, short by about 800k.

Upon further review, it doesn't seem like i'd be able to get McCabe even if i wanted to without some serious furniture rearranging... Go for it CSF if you think it'll be beneficial for you. If you hold for the 7/11, you'll get two HNIC games, and Toronto usually goes big in those.

Because the 25th ranked player in the division says so!

41pts/game since the beginning of November isnt anything spectacular. With his high ownership, his relative lack of performance and his 'huge' two-day hole in the schedule, my magic ball tells me a lot of people will get on the plank and jump off ship. IMHO, Staal has way overachieved since the beginning of the year, and Kappa is gonna get to him sooner rather than later.

I'm usually not too trigger happy, but I have a bad feeling.

Are you guys trying to be Lemmings or what ?

You're going to waste a trade like this for ONE extra game ?

In yesterday's -8 game for Staal, he still had over 20 minutes of ice time, played the majority of the 9 minutes of PP time, so he doesn't look to be suffering from any injury.

Are you the same guys who also dumped Jagr after a slow game?

No, Jagr is still a proud member of the CrazyClowns.

Glad to see a bottom-feeder like me can still move the market...

But $$$ wise, Staal has topped-off. With Monday usually a low-volume trading day, Demitra should notch up over 100k. And since its still greenback hunting season, no more staalling.

From now until RV is at a comfortable level, I think I will try to concentrate my trades on sunday and monday to try to maximize RV gain. It netted me 570k yesterday with players having heavy schedules at the beginning of the week. Anybody thinking along the same lines?

Yeah, this is just my style of playing.....in fact, there is a really good chance that Staal goes on another big tear.

For some reason, I try to not look at my team as just players, and I try to think of it as a whole, and I usually don't get too attached to a player. More times than not, the early sell pans out for me but we will see.

CrazyClowns, this is a strategy that I have been using successfully for years. The "late week" trading cycle is where the money is gained. Especially aa we move along because you are already seeing people stop worrying about RV, and I just think it's too early.

Trading out of people early has some drawbacks, but I think the rewards of doing it are worth it.

One good way to check is how many trades are you making on a normal Thursday to cover up last week's mistakes? If you are not having to use trades when they come out, you are ahead of the game IMO. Lately, I've been running out of trades too early and losing RV gains in the process.

I just need to try and bank a couple of trades.

darnit you guys are killing me. I didn't see this Staal drop coming, because I didn't come in this thread until just now.

If I'd seen this thread I would have gone Staal>Demitra on the one team that I don't already have him on. Oh well.

Now I'm wondering what to do tomorrow. I think at this point I have to hold and hope for a big game from him tomorrow.

Hmmm...
looks like I can finally get rid of my dud Ryan Whitney on 2 teams. Usually I wait to trade for a player who has just returned from injury, but in this case Whitney has done nothing for me and I want to be sure to be on the Desjardins money train from the start. I'll probably even do it on my other team that has Zhitnik.

I'll definitely wait to see if there is any change in the news though.

Flyers Gain Two, Lose Two

Desjardins and Kapanen to Return; Savage and Seidenberg Out

UPDATE: Monday, Nov. 21, 5:00 p.m.

Voorhees, NJ – It was a good news-bad news day at the Sovereign Bank Flyers Skate Zone, as Sami Kapanen will be back in the lineup on Saturday and Eric Desjardins will return on Tuesday when the Flyers face the Tampa Bay Lightning. Unfortunately, however, Dennis Seidenberg and Brian Savage will be out of the lineup with a broken wrist and a sprained knee, respectively.

On Eric Desjardins:
JM: “Eric Desjardins was seen by doctor Gerri McGuinnes, Ph.D. at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, who conducted his neuro-psyche testing. Following that he was seen by our team physician, Dr. Gary Dorshimer. Dr. Dorshimer cleared him to resume full activity, which means he has been cleared to play [Tuesday].”

Anyone else planning on picking up Desjardins tomorrow?

Tuques, if you trade Staal today, will go against your principles ! That is not to trade a player that is playing the same day. Good luck.

What do you guys think about Steve Shields (from Atl)...Could he be a good pick up ?

Steve Shields will return from his injury and start tonight versus the Canadiens.
Shields' right knee was deemed healthy enough to play by team Doctors yesterday. The team hopes the veteran goalie can add some consistency to the position. However, the netminder did not have stellar stats during his 3 games played before the injury: 4.69 GAA and .837 save percentage. Nov. 22 - 7:48 am et

Interesting about Shields. I'm probably going to need to dump Markkanen due to a rumour posted on the other board about McTavish:

Craig McTavish (Oiler coach) said today before the game that "I love to ride hot goaltenders. Earlier in the year we rode Markannen, I'd love to ride Morrison (Oilers backup goalie)." Including todays game, that makes Morrison 2 - 0. Then again with Conklin coming back it is also possible Morrison gets sent down. Might be something worth keeping an eye on if you have Markannen.

I'm thinking about LaBarbera though, or finally upgrading to Gerber. Shields might be worth a gamble though, he's a better goaltender than the earlier stats indicate. 3 games is not enough to determine the value of a goaltender, especially one who is new to, and adjusting to, the team, never mind a whole new NHL.

I know caribou if I trade Staal today I'm missing his game againt my Sens tonight and I already have Hasek, so a huge night for Staal can be equivalent to a negative night from Hasek...

This morning, after last night discussion with caribou I decided to trade Straka (who is playing tonight) for Savard, I couldn't miss on Atlanta's schedule for the next 3 weeks, the play something like 9 games without any 2 day spam, I was going to trade Straka on Sunday anyway, and I'm quite sure Savard should outpoint Straka in from today to Sunday...

Regarding Shields, he could be a really good pick if he can put something like 2-3 good games in a row, toss a SO in the mix and you have the next train leaving the station at 1 million... I'm looking at this option at the moment, I might trade Legace for Shields and hope for 2-3 good night in a row and I'll be more then happy... But on the flip side, if he gets blown away tonight againts the Habs he might not even start the next game...

Anyone with some news on Dunham, if he's going to be back in a couple of days then Shields is not even an option....

re: 76

Yeah Whitney is a slot filler right now too, and one who is actually more expensive than Desjardins. So the move actually frees up some RV for me. :)

Zhitnik is not a slot filler but he would probably need to go after Saturday anyways due to his team's upcoming 1 in 8, so I'll likely trade him as well.

I just read that Dunham is not due back until mid-December :
Michael Garnett - Goalie

Michael Garnett will start tonight versus Philadelphia.
Adam Berkhoel is the likely starter for Saturday's game in Toronto. Atlanta is carrying 6 goalies at the moment. Veteran Steve Shields should be ready for Thanksgiving weekend. Unfortunately, an MRI revealed a slight tear in Mike Dunham's groin, which means he will be out until mid-December. Nov. 18 - 8:00 am et

Thanks for that, tuques.

Shields is looking better and better as a replacement for Markkanen.

If he can be ANY improvement at all over Berkhoel, he will pick up wins in Atlanta, with the way Kovalchuk and Co. are playing, and he should have a lot of kicks at the can with the dense schedule Atlanta has over the next few weeks.

One caution's got to be Lehtonen's status though, wasn't he slated back around now? He'll have to play a couple of AHL games first I imagine, but it could make for a short-lived stint at #1.

As a Thrashers fan, seeing Sheilds play 3 times this season, I would completely advise against it!!!!

Berkhoel is gonna get starts mixed in, and as bad as he's been (well, I shouldn't say he's bad, he's just not NHL-ready yet) I don't think Shields is any better.

He may win some 6-5 games, but he may also lose some 6-5 games.

IMHO, Kipper is a Keeper.

I have Markannen and if there were other cheap interesting options out there, he would be gone.

And Staal, well. I still advocate throwing him overboard, but since he's playing tonight, you probably will not see a huge selloff.

I traded away Kiprusoff after owning him since the streak started. They have two more home games then off to the road again for another stretch. He doesn't play nearly as well on the road and one reason Sutter went with Sauve last night. I went to Vocoun.

I just can't convinced myself that Demitra will outpoint Staal tonight, there is no dought in my mind that Demitra is going to make much more money gain, but Staal can outproduce Pavel....

I'll probably do the move with my last trade and one reason that would force me to do so is the fact that I have Hasek....

Dagenais has got a hell of a shot. Problem is that he just cant skate and he cant use his big body. I mean when the zamboni is clearing the ice after the game, they have to zig zag around him. He had a good season two years ago, but he's no longer able to keep up with the new rythym.

I think I'm going to have to move Forsberg for Demitra when we refresh. Demitra's got stupid money coming his way from all sorts of Centers... Foppa's just taking up too much of my funds right now.

That means ill be running with 4 Kings, possibly 5 if LaBarbera factors himself into the mix. I don't think that's too many conisdering the type of high scoring team LA has. They also have a favorable schedule until 12/10. It'll feel almost like old times where one hot team would command 5 or even 6 of your teams spots at any given time.

Geez. Every day I have a real high price gainer, and then had a real high price loser to even it out.

eg. Tonight: Demitra +160K, Markkanen -90K, Kiprusoff -30K.

If I only had my gainers, my team would have gained 300K. But nooooo, I end up with 150K.

I'm not in a hurry to get rid of Staal, seeing how the previous "mass-hysteria" (dumping Jagr in the middle of his sweet stretch of schedule) worked out for those who did it (I aknowledge that individual situations might vary and that some managers might have gained points as well as $ as a result of that trade, but looking at the numbers, Jagr has accumulated 472 TSNP in his last 6 games).

I have Savard and Demitra, and see no one I'd like to replace Staal with. But if push comes to shove, I might move back to Spezza or Forsberg eventually.

Moved into Ray Emery from Abesicher(bum), going with the cheap d-men approach except in my goalie slot.

I was able to upgrade Ehrhoff to McCabe. I have more confidence in this approach then trying to find a goalie.

Holding Staal. Not making any money the last week or so for some reason.

Burke is getting more and more starts and he's doing rather well. Cookie Graham has been on my roster 3 times so far this year, and I hope I wont make the stupid mistake of taking him another time.

Anybody thinking about Joseph? He's not a very sexy pick, but he gets most of the starts and gets the job done.

Desjardins: Jump aboard? He should be good for a 500k plus gain, even if Philly schedule is not the most exciting. Might trade Redden out, which would allow me to free some money to move out of Markannen tomorrow.

Tuques - Its a place holder right now, forunately Emery will get some starts and he is undefeated to date.

The strategy and thinking is that since it has been more difficult to find pts out of goalies this year, to utilize one goal spot for a cheapy 500k player (in this case emery) and spend the dollars elsewhere to gain more points.

I think I'm also doing the Emery plan. I'm in no man's land in too many places with any other combination, and believe me, I've worked out a ton of them. This makes the most sense for me, it will be a trade saver too. Once I get tired of Gerber, which may be soon, hopefully I'll be able to get something pretty decent from that point. At least I'll be able to go 3 stud Dmen now, real stud Dmen (getting rid of over the hill Lidstrom).

Jagr is easy:
Out and In, since it will likely be a 500k loss, especially when you consider that you dump him on a saturday. At this point, I'm willing to sacrifice a trade for the RV. He's gonna represent a whole chunk'o'trades come sunday and monday.

Ottawa and Philly? I would say neither, unless you currently have some on your roster, which I doubt. Too much volatility for too few games. I could see hanging on to Pitkanen, but at the first sign of trouble, he's gone (or would be since he's not on my team). I just picked up Desjardins for the $$$ and maybe decent cheap-d points.

Goalies? Beats me. I'm even looking at Joseph at this point...
