NY Times says Boston has pretty much been in cost-cutting mode since the new owner took over a while back. Thornton was expensive...both Boston and San Jose were losing, and Boston mgmt probably was thinking: "we can lose with him or without him, but we can save a ton of $ and lose without him just the same."

Gagne > Jagr 2x
I have Garon and Labarbera, on seperate teams, and am seriously considering moving both of them to Lundqvist. LA seems to be cooling and with Weekes on injured reserve (but eligible to come off this coming Sat, 12/3), Lundqvist should get a majority of the near-term playing time on a first place team with 4 winnable games coming up. Price gains for Lundqvist also seem likely.

I wonder if we'll see massive price drops for Gerber over the next few days? He dropped 150k today and with the upcoming B2B, he might only play 1 game in the next 5 days. Lundqvist might be a good replacement at around the same bucks, but I'm concerned that Weekes will be back either Saturday or Monday.
I hate trading around goalies this year because the results are generally pretty disappointing. I'd rather stick with them for awhile but I'm afraid of a free-fall in price for Gerber.

Me too, which is why I moved Gerber -> Hasek as a longterm lock. One thing in Gerber's favor is that Ward just played, so maybe Gerber gets both starts... However, that certainly isn't written in stone. Its not like he's got Brodeur-like hold of the #1 job.
Also did:
Tanguay -> Jagr Stillman -> Gaborik

Both Timonen and Zidlicky have been producing like they did late last season as of late
Also went Svatos -----> Jagr
Plan on keeping Gagne, poor 1 in 5 but has a good schedule after that .... just not enough trades.
Still have to trade Heatley and Spezza after the b2b. I am sure there are many in this boat. Who do you plan on trading your Ottawa players for?

Damn, I'd hate to move Spezza to Nylander as it's such a short-term solution, even though the money will most likely be there. But outside of Forsberg & Nylander, I don't see anything resembling a reasonable center-option from Spezza at this point.
Thanks for the link, The Beezer.

I'm probably missing something (or possibly even a lot), but why is everyone and their car picking up Gionta? With only 4 winger-slots to play with and many teams entering good schedules in a few days, it seems hard enough to fit in Kovalchuk, the Sens, Jagr, (Gaborik) etc. etc. Or do you consider Gionta as a short-term place-holder?

What's with the love for Gionta all of a sudden? Kind of makes me want to get him for the sudden money increase. But I just don't see any reason to waste the trade on it at the moment. I, unlike others, positioned my team so I didn't have to use 4-5 trades by friday of the trade week. It cost me a bit in points, so hopefully I can use these trades at a better time for a better result.

I think Gionta makes perfect sense in the short term (1 week). Samuli are you really going to hold the Senators for an 0-6? I also like spezza to nylander or gomez in the short term. After that back in the OTT players who have a better long term schedule. My wingers will be Kovalchuk, Jagr, Gabby, and Gionta.

No I'm not planning to hold on to Spezza & Hasek, even though I don't really like to move Spezza for Nylander but as there's no real options around... Beggers can't be choosers. Hasek will become Niittymäki.

#35, just to note, Ottawa has a 1 in 6, not 0-6. While still bad, it was actually enough to make me hold Spezza. If I could've gained 4 games from Nylander, that would've justified 2 trades. But just 3 games doesn't cut it for me. Each trade has to gain me 2 games, or I don't make the move. Just one of my rules.
As far as Hasek, I've locked him in very longterm. My goaltending choices have been absolutely horrid this year, so I'll skip the frustration of picking another bum and hold the trade. I'll lose some shortterm money, but my RV can handle it.

On the surface, yes. But once I dug a bit deeper:
- Who are you going to move him to? Not too many teams have great schedules, and at defense the dropoff in talent gets pretty severe pretty quick. - I'd want a guy like Mccabe back, so really its two trades in the end. - I hate using trades on defense, especially ones not all that highly owned who will likely only lose a pittance.
Add all that up, and I'd have to spend 2 trades to get a guy with 6 games during that 13 day stretch (nobody plays 7) and its debatable weather I'd find a guy who in 6 games could outscore 3 mccabe games. Also, I wouldn't have a use for the extra money I'd be temporarily saving, especially since I'd need it back at the end to reaquire him.
I suppose your situation could be different, especially if you have another defense you can go ? -> Mccabe with when Tor's schedule picks up again. (Thus letting you keep whoever you get from Mccabe now.) But I know you have a high RV, so I'm doubtful you really need the money...

I think it is very reasonable to drop McCabe at this point, unless you absolutely want to pick him back when his sched gets a little better. Next week, Ottawa sched gets real hot for a while and clearing some $$$ to spend upfront wouldnt be a bad idea. Having Kovalchuk, Heatley and Alfredsson at the W spot can be a great combo, but some $$$ set aside is imperative. Going a little cheaper on D should clear enough funds to get some big guys.

Demitra's hit isnt likely to continue this week. He'll probably get hammered when LA has 3 off-days and a lot of people will get off board for good. I will wait until then to move him, maybe for Comrie, which would allow me to free some $$$ to get my W loaded up (Alfie, Heatley, Kovalchuk and Gagne).

I saw the Demitra thing coming. Him, Conroy and Frolov took off three weeks ago from out of no where. It's bound that anyones price who goes up because of a few good games, will drop just as fast when they don't. It is why I would never have anymore then one player from a short lived hot line .... it leaves me too open. I never owned Savard, Hossa, Conroy, Frolov ... because I had Kovalchuk and Demitra. Now I would own player combos from lines that have done it all year, Like Spezza/Heatley or Forsberg/Gagne.

Agh TSN, just goes to show you how difficult/quirky this game can be. All 3 teams money losers and I moved up in the rankings with all 3 of my teams (I guess I have the Islanders and Sabres to thank for that). Only 1 position out of 36 eligible point positions played. Up 65 spots - 70pts. Up 112 spots - 0pts. Up 348 spots - 0pts.
I didn't see the Aebischer or Legace pick ups coming. Aebischer hasn't been that great this year and I thought Legace was still injured?

Desjardins would be a popular move for those managers looking to pimp some cash in antipation for the looming Ottawa buying spree... Pitkanen's price point does allow for plently of flexibility with regards to an upgrade, too.
A shame McCabe's schedule isn't better right now.

There must be a lot of po'd managers today. Obviously there were a lot of managers who bought Pitkanen today to make his price increase.
Imagine the people who bought him earlier today and then had to turn around and sell him on the same day, even before 1 roster freeze. lol that would be funny.

Any news on Forsberg, anyone? I think I might let Gaborik go today and pick up Gagne for a long-term stay. The money was nice with Gaborik but as today it'll be in the negatives, might as well move him now since Gagne is definitely in the pipeline anyway.

I hear that. I've scored more TSNP in one day in past weeks then in this entire week combined.
87
Rotoworld: Peter Forsberg has a tear of his right groin muscle, not just a simple strain. Forsberg, who has missed four games with a groin injury, skated on his own yesterday but is likely to sit out the balance of the week. "There was more damage there that any of us thought - more than I thought," Forsberg said. "I didn't think it could get worse; I just knew it was there. The MRI said it was a Grade I tear, just a little tear in the muscle. It should heal by itself... . There is nothing you can do about it except let it heal and try not to tear it open again." Leave Forsberg on injured reserve until further notice. Dec. 6 - 7:26 am et Source: Philadelphia Inquirer
Figures. I had been setting aside money to pick Forsberg for a while now... Looks like ill have to look elsewhere.

Personally, I'd just be aware of Gaborik > Gagne. Chances are that most teams are going to have to turn over their entire set of 4 wings within the next 7 days or so. Not to mention centers, Pitkanen if you still have him, goalie.....etc.
Can you take care of LA if you haven't already? NYR? Atl? I'm thinking of selling Atlanta on the 12th.
Although Gaborik isn't producing right now, he is not even close to being the biggest fish to fry. Be careful if you make this lateral swap that can't gain you any games...or you'll be stuck holding one of the guys that actually DOES have a crappy schedule.

I could still move all the people that have to be moved within the the next few days (although Demitra stays at least until Forsberg is back). Usually I'm partial to sticking with guys not producing worth a damn (like Iginla to begin the season) as long as their schedule stays good. This has no doubt had a negative effect on my total TSNP. Now, of course there's no way to tell whether or not Gaborik will get productive again soon, but Minnesota just is not a very high-scoring team, and Gaborik is not exactly surrounded with premier talent. So taking the money and running doesn't seem like a bad idea, esp. since Gagne could be considered as a "must-have" whenever his schedule is acceptable. Not having Forsberg to feed him does make me think, though...

no games will be played in the nhl between 2/13 and 2/27 because of the olympics. during that time there are 2 wednesdays (aka trade refreshes). i read the game rules but was unsure if we will receive 10 trades over that period. does anyone know for sure? if so, i/we think i/we can be much more agressive with our trades. not only that, but just 2 days later (3/1) comes another refresh.

Woohoo! 156 TSNP for Niitty, finally got my 1st goalie shutout of the year. Needed that like you wouldn't believe...
Next week, I might just end up holding both my LA forwards. (Demitra/Frolov) They do have a 3-day break, but their schedule picks right back up again after that. Its not a pts or schedule move imho, just a money-saving one because everyone will sell for the 3-day break. At this point I'm probably leaning sell one/hold one, but we'll see. My trade situation has been crap for weeks, I'd really like to change that.

Yikes. This has to be one of the worst weeks I can remember for me in this game. Had both Pitkanen and Desjardins. Plus of course 2 LA forwards and 2 ATL forwards who did squat and lost money.
One positive note... on my Basic team I picked up Niittymaki (sp?) from Gerber on the weekend, pretty happy with tonight's result... wish I'd picked him up on my ultimate teams! Although his run will be shorter than I'd hoped, since Esche will be back soon.

97: I considered that same move myself! In the end I chickened out because I just haven't had luck with my just-back-from-injury guys. Went instead to someone who's in gravity - Zidlicky. But he's been pretty consistent lately and he's got a wicked schedule right through until the first week of January. Hopefully some other managers will see the potential upside with him and pick him up so he escapes gravity.

on my ultimate teams I have trades (at least 4 on each team) so I'm good there despite having both Pitkanen and Desjardins. On my basic team, for the first time all year, I used up all my trades on Saturday. Of course the only time that ever happens is the time that 2 of my guys get injured within 1 day of each other; I have both Pitkanen and Desjardins so I'll be out of trades the first day of next week. Oi!
Then I have to hope and pray that no one gets hurt, and that my Saturday acquisition, Niittymaki, does well enough to keep playing for another week even if Weekes comes back. Ugh I just realized, I have Jagr on that team too. Whoa am I ever in trouble on that one. Could take a long time to recover there.
Thank god I played more conservatively in ultimate.

Woohoo Zidlicky with 1G, 1A already through 1 period of play. I was worried about him because he was in gravity when I picked him up but he made money today and from the points he's getting tonight, he should make more tomorrow.
In a sense though I'd almost be happier if the bare minimum of managers needed to avoid gravity picked him up... that way his price would be stable and I could keep him without any worries of RV loss through the first week of January.

I wasn't expecting anything like Zidlicky's performance tonight, that's for sure. I was just hoping for a nice steady 30-35 TSNP/game like he's been doing for awhile. He got almost that from penalties alone tonight. :D
But yeah he's looking good, and between today and January 15, Nashville plays 21 games - the most of any team in the NHL, so he could conceivably be a 2 month hold.
I won't go so far as to say the Pitkanen thing was a blessing in disguise, but it sure goes a long way to easing the pain.

went Desjardins => Meszeros with my last trade earlier today. I like the long term hold and prefer the cheap option than the mid-prices one at D for a couple TSNP/G difference. Gives me more cash to play around with my wingers and less volatilty of their price, which doesnt force me to use up trades.
