Subject: "Busiest Players" League

  Posted by: KrazyKoalaBears - [15023167] Fri, Sep 29, 2006, 13:38

A bit of an off-shoot of what Doom was suggesting in this thread. Rules, etc. as follows...

Positions: C, LW, RW, D, D, G, BN, BN, BN, BN
Categories: SOG, PIM, Saves

That's it!

If you want to join, contact me. I'd like to get teams ASAP so we can get the draft done before the season starts.

LET'S GET TO WORK!

We're up to 4 now... We may have to set a small clock if we get enough people.

Up to 5. Surely there are some more people who want to join a 3-category, 10-player league, no?

Well, I've sent info to 5 people, meaning 6 people (including myself) have the info. However, only 4 people are registered at Yahoo and 5 are registered at Kafenatid (we're missing Ira in Yahoo). With just a couple of days left before the start of the season, I could use some ideas about what we want to do. One thing I was thinking is the following...

Continue with the 4 people registered at Yahoo, since that's the one that matters most. Bump up the rosters to a normal C,C,LW,LW,RW,RW,D,D,D,D,G,G and have it be a 4 person league. If Ira shows up before the draft starts and/or joins Yahoo, then it can be 5 people. And, if the 6th person shows up, it can be 6 people. And...

Of course, MORE PEOPLE ARE WELCOME!

Thoughts?

I would hate to see it be less than 6 people. If we have 6 then I like the expanded roster spots.

1-2 hour clock when we start and as soon as the draft is done we activate. We might lose a day or two but that is ok.

I have two friends who will join the league. I am giving them the info so they can still join tonight and we can start tomorrow morning. Hope this is ok with every one.

Okay, we have 8 people now. I've randomized the draft order and set a 2 hour clock until later...

THE CLOCK WILL BE 1 HOUR AFTER THE SECOND ROUND!

I think for simplicity/time, we should just keep the original 10-man roster. There'll be a TON of roster moves! :)

Draft Order
1. philflyboy
2. Taxman
3. barilko6
4. KKB (Fred)
5. Ira
6. CozmicDK (pfb's friend)
7. Dr. Doom
8. vanye21 (pfb's friend)

And pfb is on the clock!

I think I'll need to do a "best player" consensus for him since I didn't give a lot of warning for the starting of the draft. I don't want to put anybody way behind, especially with an early-round pick.

Plus, only needing 10 players means we can get through this pretty quick.

I've set the Draft Pause for 11 pm to 9 am since that seemed to work well in the other league. If anybody has any objections, just let me know. Clearly, I encourage picking during that time, it's just that the clock gets turned off.

Uh oh...isn't he usually in school to mid afternoon....that's really going to hamstring us.

If Ira times out...go to Yahoo, and take the top rated player for him. Maybe he will show before it get's back to him.

WE had all better put together queues to keep this train rolling...and especially Ira...if we don't get this done today.

Email me thoughts on a pick for Ira. Everybody give me your top 3 picks and I'll average them and take the consensus. I would take the Yahoo top pick, but with the league being so different, I don't think it's the best way of doing it. So, send your thoughts, please.

BTW....I know that Morrow was in my queue...but that is NOT who I intended to pick. I got trapped on a webcast and could not get back in time to order the players I had dropped in my queue. Fortunately, LeCavalier was one of my upper echelon choices but Morrow was added as an end of draft type reminder.

Anyway I can get a do over for Morrow?

My fault Brian...totally. The boss called and I had to run to office and set up the web cast for the staff to watch. I drop players in my que as I think about them...then..I place them in the order I would draft them in for the next pick. I had just finished dropping players in when she called and i had to leave. Sucks that I loose my third draft pick ...in what is a very thin talent pool for first few 4-5 rounds. Even if I can change it, the value has dropped by 10 or so picks.

Yes. We can set lineups for the day after the draft results are finalized. I have all the picks entered and saved up to the current pick (except Ira's, for obvious reasons), so the "worst case scenario" is that I can activate the rosters with our current players and add the rest of the players individually. The best case scenario is that we finish the draft and Ira signs up and we're good to go by sometime in the afternoon or early evening.

barilko6, do me (and yourself) a favor and just leave 1 or 2 people as a DP. Knowing that you'll be away, I can make your pick as well. Having everyone just adds more emails and possible confusion as everybody tries to make the pick at the same time. ;)

pfb, you're my DP. Pick the top one available, please.

Going to a staff meeting (fun!) and will finish rosters when I get back.

Idle question: How much of this draft was spent waiting for IRA to pick?

most rounds took less than an hour to complete(minus his pick) We waited for Ira about an hour per round.

and just like that the draft is over. 2 minutes after the skipped pick.

Donny I took your top guy I hope that is who you wanted. If not leave a note for Fred and we can change it.

Ira get's Mike Knuble as his last pick because, well, that's who is at the top of his queue.

re 95: Was the reference to the word "idle" meaning it was a question about the idlingof Ira, or idle as in a non-related question? :)

I have waaay too many LW's. Willing to trade one for a centre or RW. Also willing to package any of my other players as well in the deal.

Yeah, I ended up with an extra LW as well because I didn't look at the eligibility.

KKB I still have to add the last 2 rounds to my projection sheet. Did you finish yours? How do things look now?

pfb, I actually don't look at the projections beyond the middle rounds because people start drafting for their bench. Though, last time I looked, I was in 1st, so that's all that matters. ;)

the way it looks for my standings is:
Fred 19
Doom 16
Taxman 16
philflyboy 14
ira 13
vanye 13
barilok 10
cozmic 8

What that doesn't really show though is the extra saves from our backup goalies to reach the 82 games. Should be a lot of fun and injuries will play a role too.

Good luck all and enjoy and we need to do something like this for baseball too.

Those standings in post 106 don't take into account the pride and desire that go into being a part of the 99 Cent Shooters team. Those in themselves are worthy of at least a 10 point bump.

I understand that the projected standings are only for fun and really do not take into account who is on the bench, injuries, manager expertise etc. It is a fun way however to gauge your team from the beginning.

KKB thanks again for commmishing and I will be interested in hoops, baseball etc. so let me know. I do not go on the hoops forum very often.

Donny-always glad to help and take advantage of the helpless ;-) Couldn't have been to bad as you are still projected above me.

So am I correct in saying that each position has an 82 game max?

Oooops. The Yahoo "No Cut List" is in effect. That is something that should be turned off for future leagues. No Cut List is to prevent dumping, something that Gurupies don't do, but more important, the list is not prepared with "Busiest Player" categories in mind.

In example, if Vancouver defense continues to limit opposition to 20 shots on goal a game, I will want to dump Luongo. Fortunately..ASB Lupol (Avoid Sin Bin) did not make the list this year.
