Agreed.
Pittburgh got a sniper and then a big body to help clear the net and help the penalty kill without parting with any of their more valuable prospects.
Dallas got a lot better too. Richards was underappreciated in Tampa, never getting to play with steady linemates, and always being partnered up with subpar guys. He should really excel in Dallas. Dallas gave up a good goalie, who will probably suck in Tampa because of their system there, and then some other little small parts they had no use for. Once play-offs roll around, there aren't any shoot-outs, so bye-bye Jussi!
Colorado: I really like the additions of Foote and Forsberg. The first round pick was expensive, but got them exactly what they need to compete in the west. With Sakic coming back, this team could surprise. Like the NBA, the west is stacked!!!
San Jose Got the elite defenseman in Brian Campbell that they really needed. Giving up Bernier and the pick won't hurt them too much.
Who didn't do so well:
Montreal. They were supposed to pick up an impact forward. I think they traded Huet to clear cap space and acquire assets for a second deal, which never happened. Price and Halak are potential stars, but I wouldn't want to go into a playoffs relying on such young guys. (Even though their track record with Dryden, Penney, and Roy suggests differently)
Ottawa: Also didn't pick up enough to send them over the top. Lapointe adds grit, but they needed more to compete with the big boys in the west. Understand they made a deal for Stillman and Commodore earlier, but those guys haven't really made much of a difference. Firing Paddock might have been their best move yet.
Toronto: Sure they did well on returns for Gill, but not being able to move any of their big named no trade clause guys really hurt. Not only did they not get any return assets, but they keep enough talent to just miss the playoffs, and in turn are too good to get Stamkos. Even if they manage to eek out an 8th seed, they are doomed.
Vancouver needed to add someone too. Fans in that city are not happy.
I notice all my losers are Canadian franchises. Sigh.
