I'll get the 2008 thread started. Hopefully barilko6 will be able to assume commish responsibilities in yahoo! this year.

1) Check in - who's in/who's out
2) Discuss any changes to the format
3) Declare your 2008/09 keepers

Anything else missing?

Last years crew:
Beezer
Wolfer
Cobwebs
barilko6
Little M
philflyboy

Draft format from last year:

Yeah for sure! Looking forward to the new year.

I can't remember anyone suggesting any changes throughtout last year.

Any thoughts on upping keepers? Maybe not for this year, but for next?

Big off season should mean a real interesting draft.

Alright, Hubble is bowing out due to time restaints. He told me that he wants me to win it all and is trading me his 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks this year for future picks.

That being said, we need to recruit at least one new manager to take over Team Hubble...

Based on conversations on this thread, I am going to propose this rule change:

Starting NEXT season, keepers will increase from 3, all at different positions, to 4, with the allowance of 2 at any ONE position.

Meaning that next year we will have 4 keepers, 2 can be from the same position, then the other 2 will have to be different. So for example, you can keep 2 C's, a LW, and a Def.

Vote A if you are in favor
Vote B if you are opposed.

Or you may also add any further comments to this proposal

Just to clarify an email question.

The proposal above would still require that 3 different positions be kept, but now you may add a 4th keeper to any position. So you wouldn't be allowed to keep 2 RW and 2 Def.

I vote A, but would like the option of protecting less and gaining draft choices. For example, if someone protected 4 players, they would start drafting in the 5th round. If someone only protected 3 players, they would start drafting in the 4th round.

38Perm Dude
      ID: 3845118

I would be for that only if the draft choices were added to the end. That is, someone who throws away their third & fourth keepers would get two extra picks at the end.

40Perm Dude

I'm not sure that's what is going on. I think Little M's sub-proposal is for a manager to get extra early round draft picks if they keep fewer keepers.

If we go to 4 keepers (and everyone has to keep 4) then there's no problem with any extra picks (just as there is no problem right now with everyone at 3).

41The Beezer
      Dude

I vote A.

I'll also throw in a wrinkle that we are using in the RotoGuru Keeper 14 football league that states that your keepers keep their draft position (i.e. if you draft a guy in the 15th round, he costs you a 15th round pick next year). The next year, anyone you've kept the previous year costs you your N/2th pick rounded down (the 15th round guy in 2009 would cost you a 7th rounder in 2010). It makes things quite interesting, even though it is more overhead. Thoughts?

I vote "A" and endorse the suggestion made in #35, one keeper goalie only.

I'd also like to put the idea on the table of a season move limit of 35-40.

43barilko6

      Thu, Sep 11, 2008, 21:19
re: 40...

Agreed, every team would get the same amount of picks no matter what, but I don't think I would endorse giving up a first round pick to keep that 4th keeper.

Re: 41: I though about that too...but what do we do in regards to all these great guys we are already keeping that were drafted 4 years ago? Is there a way to work that in?

44Perm Dude
      ID: 3845118
      Thu, Sep 11, 2008, 21:23
But its a wash if all have the same number of keepers.

Essentially, we start with the 4th round with 3 keepers already. With 4 keepers we start with the 5th round. since the 4th keeper would be your 4the round pick.

43:

One option would be to consider them all first rounders for 2009 draft purposes. That would mean keeping any of them would cost a first round pick, 2 the first 2 rounds, and 3 the first three. That would encourage a bit more recycling of these guys IMO.

Since the maximumum number of games per position is set at 82, I don't think we need a Max Move limit. However, maybe I am missing something.

Sound reasonable?

50

I just thought setting a limit would put greater emphasis on making smarter roster moves during the course of the season... And/or preventing a player pool full of wavier wire drops due to careless management. It would make each move you make mean more, if just a little, because you have a limit to adhere to. Although i dont think it's ever been a real problem with this league... Hmm.

I'm down with that.

Ok, just heard from Fred at Kafenatid, and he said the hockey portion of the site should be up sometime in the next couple of days.

As for the rule change:

If anyone objects to this following new rule, please voice your concern:

Keepers will increase to 4 for the 2009-2010 season with the following restrictions: You may keep only 1 goaltender, and of the remaining 3 keepers, a maximum of 2 may be from the same Yahoo designated position.

From the looks of everyone's thoughts throughout this thread, I think that covers things well.

Like I said, if you have any different thoughts on that proposed rule change, please let me know.

Still waiting on TommyD to sign into Yahoo, (I just emailed him) and steps have been taken to secure our 12th manager.

I'm not in favor of a max move limit. As LittleM points out in post 50 we have a 82 game per position to generate as many points as possible. In some categories (usually defense) this is never attained.

I haven't seen any real abuse within the league. Should be okay. Besides I'm biased, I really enjoy scouring the waiver wire for quick pickups and drops.

Oh well whatever. I don't have the luxury of time right now to figure it out or make any deals or decisions. I'll leave it up to the league to make the ruling and trade whomever.

If it's too much, I'll understand. I'll have to fold my team. An option I don't really relish, but the league needs to move on...

I don't want to create trouble, but everywhere I look, every magazine I look in, Heatley is listed as a LW. (And becuase of this issue, I took the time to check out about 20 different sources.)

The only place he is listed as a RW is on Ottawa's home webpage.

Any other thoughts from managers?

As much as it sucks for Superfreak, I think Yahoo's position listing has to be the final arbiter here and the rule needs to be enforced.

Having said that, can we find a fair value trade with another team that can solidify this? I'll offer to swap Iginla for one of his LWs and keep Arnott (C) as I was going back and forth between him and Vanek anyway.

Could Yahoo's pre-draft ranking system help you out at all? Or does that only work for online drafts?

In any event, glad the Ovechkin/Heatley problem got sorted.

Alright, we have extended an invitation to Filthy.

That means we can get moving along again. Keeper deadline will be Tuesday midnight, and the draft will start at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, if that works for everyone.

That will give Filthy a chance to check out his roster, send out some trade offers if he wants, and give me to enter all the keepers into Kafenatid.

Guys...

I am still looking to package either superstar goalie Roberto Luongo or young stud Carey Price with the goal machine Ilya Kovalchuk for an elite winger and/or draft pick upgrades.

The deal must be a 2 for 1, or 1 for draft picks deal.

Your chance to get one of the best goalies in the game for your team!

Super has given me the go ahead to make any picks for him while he is away.

Just wondering if I should go with my own 10th place in 2007 judgement or if we should seek out an impartial party.

I am ok with making the picks, but would like to maybe either have an outsider with a voice, or have 3 of us together working it out together.

He put me as one of his designated pickers, but it says "Queue Unavailable/Empty". If you can go in and just change the queue setting to show the top player, I don't think that would be a problem. You wouldn't even have to look at the players in the queue to do that since you can change it from the draft home page.

Hey guys...thanks for keeping things moving at a great pace over the weekend.

I am back now, but will be away all day tomorrow. Once again I will set up a lengthy queue.

For those helping make picks for Superfreak, make sure you take a look at his existing team and positions before picking off the top of his queue. So far I think we have done a good job on the guys we have selected for him.

Lastly, I had Byfuglien in my queue for a long time, and moved him to the top for my 9th round pick only to see him go 3 picks earlier. Ugh. He will post great numbers for a Def. this year.

Hold the draft!
I was designated picker for Beezer, but didn't want to make his pick (Erik Johnson) because he's out for 6 to 9 months.
He should of course have checked this himself before making his Q, but I still don't like the idea of picking an injured player.
Shall we continue the draft, or wait for Beezer to change his pick?

I made the pick for Beezer.

While I do appreciate the value of leaving queued up picks, the news about Johnson's injury has been out there for 2 weeks now, and therefore should have been known news.

If anyone disagrees with me, let me know, and we can see about a repick, but I know someone got stuck with Brad Isbister a couple years ago when they read an old rankings report that had him listed pretty high.

I', for going on. Setting a que is the same as making a draft pick. Selecting a long term injured player in either is "the pick made". Not our job to give do-overs to other managers.

Last year with the first pick of the draft (after keepers) I selected Emery, G, Ottawa...I didn't get a do-over.

That was my thinking as well Tax. I know we did a re-do with Superfreak in this draft, but I think that was a much different scenerio.

He threw a ton of guys in a queue and gave a couple of us permission to look through and select the best guy that fit a need, not necessarily the top guy. Gonchar was selected and then quickly deleted.

Gonchar was injured after he made his queue and after he became unavailable to change his queue.

Well, I gambled a little bit on Gonchar before the official news came out, and seems I lost that gamble, effectively losing out on only a 12th round pick, so that wasn't too costly.

Yeah, the season starts with 4 games on Saturday and Sunday combined, so it would be good to have things done by Friday if possible.

We have been moving fairly well, but still have 5 rounds to go. TommyD has been on the clock for 4 hours now with no word.

Guys its the last couple of rounds, time to start leaving lengthy queues so we can get this thing done, otherwise we are looking at a 2 hour time clock, which I don't think anyone wants.

Damn, McDonald doesn't make it back up... Guess someone had to pay attention eventually with the pre-season he was having.

Left a 4 player queue good for 18.12 and 19.01, made Tax, filthy and Lil M pickers.

I am heading out this morning and will be gone for 4 days. I left people in my queue and made everyone my dp. If my queue runs out just throw a filler in and I will take care of it when I get back. Thanks

Nice...made a really good run there...a little pause now, but some good catching up was done with some nice queueing.

My sincere apologies.

Have no idea what other screw ups I caused today.

I left a queue that still has three players in it...but apparently I didn't make it available to my designated pickers.

I have spent the last week hoping we could finish this thing before today, the beginning of 4 days celebration and reunion with out of town family gathered for the wedding of my son.

have a great w/e all.

Lol yeah i didn't expect to get in more than 2 picks today, we'd been averaging 2 rounds per.

On that note, another draft is in the books. Good luck everyone, let's get this show on the road.

ALright, the league has been started. Check your teams, make sure everything is ok. At noon today, all players will be available to be added so that people can set their line-ups for tomorrow's game.

Nice finish everyone!

Waiver priority changed, reversed draft order.

I couldn't change the waiver wait for undrafted players, so they will be clearing waivers as per Yahoo.

I find it humorous that CSF wasn't present for most of the draft, yet somehow drafted a better team than i did...

...Ok, maybe it's not humorous, more just sad.

Thanks for the picks guys. The team looks really good on paper. Greatly appreciated. I had a hard time ranking the queue because the up down functionality is very difficult for a 90 man queue.

Looks like a very competitive group again. Good luck.

It's Sat noon here. Weather is great at the Sunshine Coast.

Looks like we started this thread on August 21 last year. Will there be a season 5?

I'm back...

should be a good one. Lots of movement in the offseason. I plan on full attention this year. No vacation to interrupt the draft.

Once we get confirmation from everyone we'll need everyone to declare their keepers.

As a reminder please check out Post 54. 4 keepers this year.
