I plan to pass on participating this year. It's been a blast and I have enjoyed the past 4 years, but the last part of the season I was frankly not participating to the level this league deserves. I'll check in from time to time to help keep the Maple Leaf fans in line. :)

Guys, sadly I am going to have to pass as well. Things are busy, and I don't think I can invest the needed time to keep a team competitive.

As founder and commish of this league, it was a tough call.

If anyone needs help on the Yahoo settings or keeper rules, please hit me up with an email. I think I am leaving a very nice set of keepers for the next owner!

Barilko, shoot me a line. I'll set up Yahoo!
I don't mind running with it.

Things to consider. With 2 managers out and the possibility of 2 new managers, I was thinking of throwing Beezers and Barilkos teams into a supplementary 4 round draft and have the new managers complete the 4 keeper rosters spots from the available players.
All other players are then back into the draft.

We'd have to determine their draft spots as well.

Thoughts?

Email sent to Barilko.
Email sent to Tommyd.

There's 2 gurupies who have expressed interest to replace Beezer and Barilko. I'm waiting on Tommyd's reply.

2 replacements are:
1) Ira who's been around for sometime and is currently in Aus.
2) GoldCoach who I'm not familiar with guruland.

I've not participated in any of the guru hockey leagues before. I've been in baseball and basketball for about three years. I'm not much of a chatterbox on the site, but I manage my teams to the bitter end whether I'm contending for first or 11th place.

Barilko has gotten back to me. I'm now commish of the Yahoo league.

Once I get home I'll start organizing and send out the league info, supplementary draft info for the new mgrs, keepers, draft date, etc.

Feel free to chime in if you have any concerns, issues, suggestions etc etc.

This years Crew:
Wolfer
Cobwebs
philflyboy
Little M

The Dienasty

Ira

Yahoo league is setup. Invites will be sent.

Ira please send email addy.

Items:

1) Supplementary draft will start Monday or sooner. I will list Beezers and Barilkos players. From that list Gc and Ira will draft 4 keepers (read keeper rules in the subject email).

2) I will flip a coin to determine draft order for these two managers.

3) I will also flip a coin to determine the spot Gc and Ira will occupy in the draft based on Bariko's and Beezers spots in the final standings.

4) I'll check into Kafenatid for the slow draft.

5) I'm thinking Sept 16th as a start date. It'll give us 3 weeks to draft.

Anything else?

For the original 10 it's time to declare your keepers.

Once the keepers start trickling in I will open up the dispersal draft to Goldcoach and Ira. I have the list it's a matter of posting. I'll have it no later than tomorrow evening.

Goldcoach won the flip for the draft pick in the dispersal draft. You can pick 1st or 2nd. It's a snake draft for 4 rnds. either picks 1,4,5,8 or 2,3,6,7. If you wish, you can wait for me to post the available players before choosing.

Ira has won the flip for the coveted draft spot in the RGFHL draft. You can pick 4th spot (Beezers) or 8th spot (Barilkos).

Should be interesting what happens with Heatley. I suppose for your sake you're hoping the rumors to the Sharks are true?

I moved from Byron to the Gold Coast at the start of October last year, and stayed there up until a couple months ago, but now we're in my girlfriend's hometown an hour and a half south of Byron for the time being

A move to the Sharks would be nice provided it didn't deplete them too much. He's still a force and should provide stats in Ottowa or wherever.

I see that the draft has been set up on Kafenatid. Any chance of getting the log in info so that we can get this draft started before the NHL season starts. We need to do more than a round a day, if we start now. Every day that we delay reduces the amount of time that we have available to pick.

Re 86: Thanks. I didn't realize that I was only seeing the last 50 posts in the thread.

I want to give everyone notice that this weekend is my mother's birthday and I don't know how much access I will have to a computer. I don't mind leaving long queues for later rounds, but I will not do it for early picks. I had hoped that we could get the draft started last Monday and get through 6-7 rounds before the weekend, but the way we are going, we will be lucky to even start the draft by then.

tommyd has registered for Yahoo! but not for Kafenatid. I have sent him another email for his keeper list and asked him to register.

I'm in limbo as a commish for setting draft order and adding keepers until this is resolved.

One Alternative is setting up the slow draft thread here and then moving over to Kafenatid?

Thoughts?

Since we have 4 keepers, we only need to draft 17 rounds. Looking at RIFC, they did 17 rounds in about 8 days, so there's still plenty of time to get this done.

This thread has been going on for 20 days now. If someone takes that long to log in, I don't expect to do 17 rounds in less than 2 weeks without a very tight time limit on picks. I would suggest starting the draft here, but we can't even do that without his keeper list.

I say let's start tomorrow at the latest, even if we have to go with 11 teams.

Last year we did the draft in 10 days, and this year we have 1 round less to think about. We just have to get the draft started, the sooner the better. Come on tommyd, give us your keepers, they're not that hard to figure out, so that we can get things rolling.

Another option would be to give tommyd manager position to GoldCoast who is an experienced Guru board player in other sports.

Commish..only you have had contact with tommyd. He has never checked in on this thread. I urge you to replace him with Goldcoast.

Maybe a disadvantage to Goldcoast, but let him pick his keepers from tommyd's team and the remaining players off the two teams whose managers were replaced.

Commish, (Thanks for commishing CSF)have you tried e-mailing him through the yahoo site? Does the previous commishioner have on file a way to get in touch with him? Before we opt to move on without him ; Is this typical of tommyd's participation, or could there be some sort of emergency/vacation/business trip that is making him temporarily unavailable? But as we all know the clock ticks in one direction only. Most of you were with him last year so you may have some insight into the situation.

There's been no justification or explanations except an acknowledgement of "I down for it again".

1) Please review your keepers in Kafenatid.
2) No draft clock yet.
3) Leave a queue or email a designate.
4) In fairness of the league. You must field a full roster position during the draft. No OVERLOADING a position.
5) We use the Yahoo! player position only.
6) I have entered the players. Their positions may not be correct in Kafenatid. If the position is incorrect please update the position to reflect Yahoo! listing.

If the player is in Yahoo he can add him to the draft universe pretty quickly.

However if you need to draft a player asap...substitute a player that would never get drafted...and announce your pick here.

And then follow PD's process. That way we know he's gone.

Won't fly until Tommyd's post 12 hours ago "I might be a little slow to start but I promise that once the draft starts that I will on the ball." becomes a literal/factual statement. Haven't seen "on the ball" for the past few hours he has been on the clock.

Commish, unless you institute a rather short clock ASAP, this draft will drag on until the second week of the season. We have made 8 picks in the 12 hours since the draft was officially started 4 days late because the manager now on the clock torpedoed us having a timely draft. Like you said, he knows the drill, but still isn't adept at making timely picks, leaving a queue or checking this thread/kafenatid. We need to motivate queues... and having folks ck in every few hours. If we complete only 10 picks a day, we finish October 7, thus losing the first two weeks of the season. A two-four hour clock might encourage managers to be more attentive.

I think I am so pi$$ed about the late start because I am w/o regular internet connection for the next two days AND begining next Thursday-Sunday, out of town to attend trade show. But please run the clock on me if I don't leave a queue or a DP with instructions on how to draft for me.

end of tonight's vent

Like Taxman, my access to a computer will be greatly reduced this weekend, which was why I was strongly pushing to start the draft last Monday. I don't have a problem with a very short clock (1 or 2 hours) and if I time out, I will make my pick when I can get to a computer.

I see The Dienasty's queue. I have picked for him.

Goldcoach, I think Tavares can produce, but his plus/minus will be horrendous.

Looking back over the years I have had to give up guys like Getzlaf, Malkin, Heatley, because they either occupied the same keeper position or I had no room for them.
The Malkin loss was a tough one to take but I think it's worked out for Taxman and myself ok.

woot, 3 players I had last year are already gone. Gagne, Mason, Jokinnen.

re: 146. Yes technically it could be considered stacking.
However I'm referring to loading up on one position and
intentionally shorting another position.

For example: You can if you want to draft 5 goalies, but you
have to ensure that you have enough rounds left to fill the
remaining C, RW, LW, D.
Ie. You shouldn't be drafting a 6th or 7th goalie if you are going
to be short on C etc.

Yeah I drafeted another goalie because I always end up low in GP and wins at that position. If just seems like there a ton of players that have similar type 55-70 point stats that there will be enough around by the time it gets back to me.
BTW queue is left and should be good, I am working all day but can check back periodically.

Update on the draft:
Round 12 of 21.
We have completed 8 rounds since Thurs afternoon and should
be finished by the end of the week.

Time Per Pick Picks Left Projected Finish
0:34:02 114 09/23/09 01:47:58 pm

I think the time per pick is a bit off due to me entering picks for
the first 4 rounds.

Overall not too bad.

WE have a problem..per post 161..pfb has gone for federal jury duty. He said he would leave a queue and that I would be able to pick for him should the need arise.

pfb has been up to draft (pick 13.05) since 11:20 PM last night, however he must have failed to make his queue available. All I am seeing is "Queue Unavailable/Empty"

Commish..can you see his que? Is it empty, or doer he have picks in his queue? I will start working on a pick for him and I will e-mail it to you as I don't think we can wait for him to return.

Any concensus on a time limit?

2 items to point out:
1) philflyboy - he's out all day so he'll timeout and miss a pick if he doesn't set a queue.

2) Ira, He's in Aus.
a) If we use queues he can draft thru the night for us.
b) If he leaves us a queue we can draft for him during the day until he's available.
It's a 2 way street. However I feel both these managers deserve to participate in the draft and I don't want to take too many picks out of their hands by enforcing queue's on them due to their situations.

We still have plenty of time, but may be taxed due to pfb's issue.

Re 170. I think we should set a clock. Since the draft has been going fairly well so far, it can be a generous amount of time.

I remember a few years ago, someone went on a business trip and the draft stopped for 4 days and I wouldn't want to see that repeated. Internet is a lot more accessable now than it was then, but sometimes life can throw you a curve and things can happen so that making a pick in a hockey draft is not a high priority.

thx, Taxman. I'll be heading out the door for home in 30 minutes and should be able to check in again at 5pm MT.

LittleM, agreed with your justification. However right know we are doing well with Q's.

I'm concerned that if we implement a clock we'd might just stall out and abandon queues.

However, it all boils down to effective communication (use q for 11th round only, I'm here from 11 to 4 etc, etc). Without it we are just left hanging.

Thanks for the picks, I should've posted that beyond Sunday my queue was still valid. I am going to reload my queue again, top name available, so once you pick, if it lets you pick for me, go for it. Good job with the draft so far. We've kind of stalled a bit today. I'm trying not to implement a clock and I'm a bit guilty today due to work.

Here's where we are at:

Picks Made 178
Time Per Pick 0:41:09
Picks Left 74
Projected Finish 09/24/09 07:08:25 pm
Round 15 (of 21)
Pick 11
Overall 179

Things to do:
1) I'll add the remaining draft picks to Yahoo! this weekend.
2) Please review your draft picks on Monday.
3) I'll set the waiver wire priority.
4) I'll open up the season on the 28th and 329th.
5) After I open the game I will place the undrafted players on waivers. This impact your waiver priority prior to the beginning of the season. Once the season starts they will become. FA's.
6) Overloading was for the draft only. In the spirit of the game you still need to carry a valid roster. 3,3,3,5,2. Personally I don't care if you carry 8 lw's as long as you have the the playing positions covered. Thoughts?
7) Anyone interested in a draft recap thread?
8) Drink BEER.
9) anything missed?
