Subject: ATHS VIII (2009-2010 Season)

Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey is expected to launch this week (some sources indicate September 1, others September 3). A few new H2H league settings might be available, e.g., divisions and playoff seedings, and merit discussion. We can simply roll over last year's setup or try something new.

Please post here if you're returning (or not) from ATHS VII. I'll send an invitation to last season's managers, using e-mail information available at Yahoo!, but can't guarantee delivery.

I am registered. I see that there are 6 of us in Yahoo now, so that is a good start.

Are we drafting through Kafenatid again this year? If I remember correctly, it usually takes a few days to get it set up for hockey.

Players should be loaded in the kafenatid.net database by the end of the week (per e-mail from KKB); if everyone registers in a very timely manner, the draft can begin early next week. We might have to miss the first week of Yahoo! scoring but that's no great loss.

I'm very concerned about Dr. Doom's uncharacteristic absence; there's been no communication here from him since his September 2 post, his Yahoo! baseball team has shown no manager activity since the wee hours of September 3, and he hasn't responded to an e-mail that I sent a couple of days ago. Taxman has tried to reach Doom via e-mail as well. Does anyone have another way to contact Doom (other than e-mail)?

I'll take care of registering the league for a 12-team draft at Kafenatid and will try to recruit a standby replacement for Doom, in the event he is unable to participate this season. If we end up with only 10 teams, we can work around that as the Kafenatid draft progresses.

I can also set up an identical league at Yahoo! for each of you to join. If Doom returns in time for the draft, you can leave the extra league; if he does not, we'll use the "mirror" version of ATHS VIII.

Please share your thoughts here.

Second league has been created and invitations to join should be forthcoming via Yahoo!; if yours doesn't arrive, the league ID is 145130 and the password is the same as the one used for the original ATHS VIII (check under League Settings).

Same scoring categories as last year. I changed the "Can't Cut List Provider" from Yahoo! Sports to None. The can't cut list is a nuisance ... perhaps it's a good feature for some leagues to discourage collusion but we certainly don't have to worry about that. The default "Trade End Date" of March 4 can be extended to March 11 or March 18.

We're halfway there; many thanks to those who have registered thus far for the alternate league.

I have an experienced manager ready to step in for (a) Ellis, if Dr. Doom returns and Vincible registers for the original 12-team league by the time we are ready to draft or (b) Dr. Doom, if we have to move forward with the 10-team replacement league. Vincible hasn't posted here since August 30, has not signed up for the original ATHS, and has an "invisible" e-mail address in Yahoo! (no means of contact other than through Doom).

Sorry guys, I took a bit of a break from a very busy work period, I will gladly reliquish the draft aspect of our league this year if someone (taxman) wants to take it. My apologies, I had no internet access at all which surprisingly is a problem (who would have thought).

I will track down Vincible and get him signed up. Start as soon as we can. I will probably be running strictly from queues as I won't be able to follow the draft from work, it's crazy busy there.

Commish:

If/when Vincible registers, then Little M can exercise his escape clause. I've e-mailed the person lined up as an alternate (replacement for Ellis) and told him that we'll have an even number with just the managers returning from last season.

From post #19 above: "I see that faceoffs won has been included as a stat for this year. Is this intentional?" Are we actually using this as a scoring category? Can you address this before we get too deeply involved in the draft?

I would like to suggest changing the "Can't Cut List Provider" from Yahoo! Sports to None. Yahoo! sometimes takes days -- even weeks -- to remove a player from the can't cut list or to list a player as "IR"; they're just not as attentive toward hockey injuries as they are toward baseball and football.

IRA.,.noted...when Visnovsky is added to OTC by Fred (assuming you requested he be added), I'll make the switch on your team. If draft ends before that switch is made in OTC, be sure that Dr. Doom places him on your team when he populates the yahoo league site.

If we can keep after it for another 24 hours, Dr Doom will have almost a week to enter our \picks into yahoo, giving us pleanty of time to ck our rosters. Please keep using the queue function as that really accelerates (decreases) the # of picks per minute (currently averaging @ 1 pick per hour).

We are currently on pace to finish near midnight Monday the 21st. Great job gang.

Great draft gang. Way to pay attention, use queues and all that stuff. Resulted in an average time per pick under 1 hour.

Thanks for entering draft double D. As always, we are indebted to Mistress Moosey, she of handcuffs and kerosene soaked whip for the long running ATHS league entering it's VIII'th year (quite a feat w/o keepers)... just kidding, no nicer moosey on planet..............mars

A side note for this draft crew. At least one of us is not a Rotoguru regular and had no idea of the "placeholder".

If we do use them or need them they should be posted on the Kafenatid board as well.

Other than that a job well done. I will enter the last few picks when I get home from work.
