Here's your 2010 starter thread, copied from last years thread with slight alterations.

3. philflyboy
4. Little M
5. C.SuperFreak
6. Taxman
7. Perm Dude
8. The Dienasty
9. Filthy
10. Tommyd
11. Goldcoach
12. Ira

Thanks for the wake up call.

I have set up the league. Format is the same as last year.
Emails have been seen to last years managers. If you haven't received the invite you might want to verify your email addy is correct in Yahoo.

Or if you haven't received something in your inbox send me an email and I'll send you the details.

For now we'll see who is back and then we'll fill any empty manager spots before declaring keepers.

Anything else? It was a quiet year for chatter and league discussions so I don't think anything new was tabled.

Re #10 - I don't have a problem with increasing the number of keepers, but if we go that route it probably shouldn't take effect until next season, since some teams might have made moves at the end of last season based on there only being 4 keepers.

Signed up at both places, I like Little M's suggestion about adjusting number of keepers next season, but we should set a time limit for discussion and then vote before this season is too far along.

How are we going to do this if we increase to 6 keepers? I thought the rule was no more that one keeper per position?

Also, I want to throw something out there that I know has not been talked about. Any thoughts of having a playoff pool for the top 8 finishers?

Re #20 That's reasonable.

If we do 6 the format could either be:

1 goalie
min. 1 defencemen
min. 2 forwards

or

1 goalie
min. 2 defencemen
min. 2 forwards

I'd say the former is most practical

I personally like the idea of keeping the keepers the same as it is now. When a team is in bad shape it would be really hard to draft enough to really move up. That could be though because I am looking at it from the point of view "my team stinks!"

Re #24 - I understand your situation, maybe 6 keepers is too much in your case, but 5 keepers is only one less pick in the draft. I think it's reasonable for a manager to be able to have one keeper at every position (C,LW,RW,D,G) if he wants to. But I respect your opinion and I'm OK with keeping it as it is for this season.

I'd like to keep it at 4 this year and if majority of managers agree move it to 5 next year. This will give the managers time to mull over the change and plan their draft accordingly. However with an endless supply of players on the waiver wire it may not be an issue.

Okay keepers have been entered into Kafenatid.
Trade has been processed between LittleM and TommyD.
I'll leave the clock off for now given that the first few rounds are critical to team development.

We are ready to begin drafting. Keep in mind the queue feature to keep things rolling along as we get deeper into the draft.

Check Yahoo! for position eligibility

And please alert me of any mistakes/errors/ommissions (i.e. Kafenatid has all Van players as Ana players). I'm getting older/blinder/balder.

Things to keep in mind for next years draft - No rush on these actions:
A) Vote for an extra keeper for next year total of 5
B) Vote for 2 extra keepers but with a duration (if we go this route we'd need a limit how long they can stay on a roster - this means more commish duties)
C) No Change to current format

I apologize as well for holding up the draft last night. I did not think I'd be away from a computer for so long.

In future I will drop a note in this thread if I think I'm going to be delayed.

Thanks Little M and Filthy for giving us the heads up.

I'm strongly against the use of the clock for now because I want everyone to make the right decisions when drafting in these rounds. We'll re-evaluate later next week to see how we are progressing.

I can say right now that the picks being made are very solid. The margin of victory this year could be smaller.

I'll setup a post draft recap for all those that are interested. I enjoy reading them and I also like to read the previous years recaps just to see how things worked themselves out.

Queue is still valid.

Also, before I forget.

I vote C: No change to current format.

Drafting is fun. Why add more keepers to the equation? There are already a lot of game changing players moving around after only a couple rounds of draft. Very exciting stuff.

If we changed anything, I'd say to turn a D spot into another C spot or maybe try some new stat categories out. Maybe even expand the league by 2 teams?

One random thought on adding keepers would be to let us also keep 1-2 players that have limited experience. Somewhat of a farm team. Guys under a certain amount of career games played eligible. Something like that...?

I vote C also

A farm team could be interesting; one or two players max. We could slow draft on this forum a few days after the NHL draft.

I picked the first player from LittleM's queue. Next player is also a goalie, not sure if he wants to make that pick since he hasn't posted any instructions. There's no hurry, so we can wait until tomorrow.

Thanks for waiting, Cobwebs.
I took the goalie anyway.

No problem, better be safe than sorry:-)
We should be able to finish the draft this week anyway.

I can honestly say that I'm having a tough go of it drafting from the middle positions. I don't seem to be getting any value picks in this position, and no sense of direction whatsoever.

I figured it was a good time to pick up a goon, myself. And if he can get me double digits in goals then it is a bonus!

Dont forget guys, Im awake every hour that most of you are asleep, so if everyone has a couple players in their queue, I can probably get through an entire round overnight.

The draft has slowed down because of some road blocks lately, maybe its time to start a clock. We're pretty far into the draft, so the picks are losing in value. It would be appreciated if managers would post and leave a queue to inform us whats going on. I don't mind waiting, but it's frustrating not knowing for how long.

I remember a previous pool where someone went on a business trip and there were no picks for 4 days. I would hate to see that repeated.

I am out for the night again.

I have set up a small queue. Please don't take two players at the same position now.

Sorry for the holdup guys. Surprise birthday party last night turned into a late one and a writeoff of a day. Unplanned so I couldn't really post a message or get the queue caught up, hoped it would either keep going slow or that I'd get skipped.

Gonna load up the queue tonight to get me through the rest of the draft hopefully. Will also add Ira as a picker.

It has slowed a bit. If it continues at this pace I'll put the clock on beginning in Rnd 15. If it picks up I'll keep it off. We are still on pace to finish well ahead of the start of the season. I don't believe there are any games in Europe/Japan/Russia this year.

I know we are all anxious for the draft to move quicker, but the season is still 2 weeks away. Pre-season games have begun.

Just remember that Ira is in Aus and can make picks during the evening if you "Q" up.

7 rounds to go...

Probably too early for me to be speculating that Souray will get picked up, but the guy has a booming shot and I can see him getting 40 points from the blue line if he gets a shot somewhere.

PD, you $#$%@#!@, he was my next pick.

I had him pegged for these upcoming rounds in both ATHS and RGFHL. I passed on him in ATHS because I had a hunch you'd be checking picks in both leagues to get a feel of where players are being drafted.
My logic was that if I pick him up in ATHS you'd might pick him up or at least do a bit more digging to think about him in RFGHL. But I guess it's all moot now since you had him on your radar. Now Tax is up in ATHS and I'm guessing I'll lose him in ATHS.

Plan B next.

Ha. Man, I took about 20 minutes just trying to figure out whether he would sign with someone. Leap of faith, in the end.

Looks like you did get him in ATHS. Time for us both to start sending out emails to NHL team presidents, telling them the Oilers are practically giving this guy away...

Yes, phew, I got him in at least one pool. If the rumour holds up that Columbus is interested it would really go a long way in making him a great late round pick-up.

I guess this would be a good time to post injuries/hold outs etc.

Savard - out - concussion
Stajan - out - shoulder
Franzen - will miss some preseason with a leg injury
Souray - not welcome in Edmonton
Mueller - out - concussion
Markov - out til mid November
J. Staal - out 4-6 wks
Burrows - out til December
Salo - always injured
Pronger - questionable for some preseason recovering from off season surgery

Quick question do we have to fill out our roster spots with the draft. Say do we need to draft 4 d men?

You have to draft a full starting lineup, so you need to draft 5 D-men. That was the rules last season. It's to avoid stacking a position.

I wouldnt touch Souray with a 10-foot pole. Word on the street is that he could be spending the year in the AHL. He even cleared waivers for it.

Yep, its THAT bad.

My 19 round pick is not in the kafenatid db.

here's my pick:
D: Ian White, CGY.

I will substitute him with an obscure placeholder...

thanks

Ah hadn't read your last message C.Superfreak and was wondering why I could not find White in the database. Another small thing it says Mason Raymond is with ANA on Kafe but everything else I've checked shows him with Vancouver.

We've got a round and a half to go before we wrap this up. Very nice job everyone. We've managed to get through this without a clock and just a couple of long pauses.
It was nice not having the clock. I hope you all had sufficient time to research and select without being under a last minute/missed picked situation.

I've started entering picks in Yahoo! and will make the league available later in the week.

Teams have been entered into Yahoo!.

I will begin the season on Tuesday. This should give everyone enough time to review their teams.

I chose Tuesday because I feel it gives everyone a bit of notice before the FA vultures swoop in and starting tweaking their teams prior to the season commencing.

In other words if you want a player for Thursday you'll have go through the waiver wire.

Any objections let me know.
