Not in favor of expansion...not enough talent to cover the wing and goalie slots as is. Otherwise, looking fwd to a full season this year.

Not in favor of expansion in THIS league. However, I would be in favor of seeing if we can set something up like the RIFC, RIBC, and RIHC where there will be advancement between leagues.

I'm open to expansion as well. If we go to 14 teams, the 2 new teams will be picking from our non-keepers which means 1) we need to declare those keepers soon, and 2) we need to grab those two new managers.

I also like what wolfer suggested with introducing an RIHC/RIFC/RIBC type of setup for the hockey game... The problem i see is a possible lack of managers to fill out leagues. We'd need at least a few dozen to get it going?

I would think we'd need to either have fewer keepers in an expansion year, or have an opportunity for them to take a keeper (with conditions such as no more than one taken per team, etc).

I'm open to expansion, but only if it doesn't hinder our league starting by October 1. I know it's always a race against time and I hope adding 2 teams won't push us past the opening day.

As for sacrificing keepers from original teams, here's a list of some of the non-kept players last season:

FWD - Hall, Nash, H. Sedin, Gaborik, Getzlaf, Couture, Ryan, Thornton
G - Howard, Price, Luongo, Niemi, Backstrom

I think the expansion GMs would be fine picking from our 'left-overs'

Perhaps. I know that I would find coming into a keeper league a little more unattractive if I had to pick (perhaps along with another team) my first year keepers from the leftovers.

I agree with Ira, the leftovers are good enough, no need for fewer keepers. The biggest problem with an expansion is the goalies, it will be very hard to reach maximum games at the goalie position, do the math, most of us would have to have 4 goalies to reach max, and then they have play to every game, no room for picking matchups. It would work if we could change the settings and lower the max, but I don't think you can do that only for goalies.

It looks like (so far), 4 are open to, or don't mind the idea of expansion, 2 are against, and 2 are undecided/indifferent.

Should we count the 'open to' and 'don't mind' as votes FOR, or should we respect the 2 that have stated a definitive opinion on the topic and put the 'open/don't mind' in the indifferent category, which doesn't contribute to either FOR or AGAINST?

Do we need a vote for the vote? Haha

PS cobwebs raises a very good point regarding goalies, and if it can be changed to suit an extra 2 teams in the league my vote changes to AGAINST

Is there a need to expand at this time?
How many new managers do we have that are looking to join?
Are all of the managers from last season returning?

Regarding the maximum number of goalie games, I don't think there is a need to reduce it. This is a maximum, not a requirement, so a team can have less than the maximum. If you want to reach the maximum (which I think is 164 games), it might involve having 4 or 5 goalies, but that adds to the strategy.

We might have to adjust the minimum number of goalie games, but I don't know what that is.

Little M, I don't think there's a need to expand at the moment. We first need to confirm that all managers will be back.

If someone drops out we can extend the invite to the gurupies who expressed interest. I think this would be the best option for now.

There are still two managers who haven't registered at Yahoo! I'll ping them to sign in.

Steps:
1) Notify the last two managers to sign up for Yahoo!
2) Declare Keepers
3) Set up Draft at draftime
4) Begin draft
5) Enjoy hockey

Assuming expansion is off the table and we're thinking of something for next year:

I bet there could be interest for at least 8 teams in a AAA league? If our bottom team swapped out for the AAA champ every year it would be pretty fun? Might get confusing but if anything tricky came up, I'm sure we'd figure it out.

As for this year, do we do 4 keepers, with limit of only 1 goalie? I'm still full of summer rust and will likely have my usual bad draft, don't worry!

byfuglien, datsyuk, kunitz, benn, carter, ekman-larsson, landeskog, (reimer?). i'll package 2 if anyone's looking for depth, or i'll trade 1 for a pick upgrade if that's allowed. i'll probably keep mike smith, and 3 of these guys. typed in order of value, off top of my head.

Re 20 and 24

There will be no keepers. I was thinking that maybe we can get two 8 team leagues, provided there is enough interest. Then the ones who are in the top 4 in each league would be automatically invited to the RIHoC.

It'd be easier to attract managers to a non-keeper league I assume? Either way, in my mind, AAA could be keeper or non-keeper, not a big deal. If they went non-keeper, it'd make it that much sweeter to win it and qualify to move up to our league, which would, in my mind, remain a keeper league. Every year, last place giving up their spot to the AAA winner. More than one spot always possible, my imagination was just thinking one spot as a starting point....

The winner of AAA could pick from the last place team (going down to AAA, or retiring, their call really...) for their keepers and get top pick in the draft, while the remaining 11 teams would go on as usual.

If one of those 2 potential expansion teams wanted to commish, it would be their call. I wouldn't be against volunteering to commish if we stay stuck at 11 teams or if we decide cutting our league down to 10 teams would be an improvement and we needed volunteers. But this league is really exciting, so I'd rather not change much about it or leave it, to be honest. If necessary, I would though......

Either way, I could recommend 2 or 3 guys to join AAA and imagine at least one would give it a shot. If at least half of us can get someone, it'd be easy to get to 8 teams for AAA. That would be minimum probably? and maximum (unlikely) around 12? with potential for two leagues if interest happened to be that high.

End of ramble...

That's probably better anyway, nobody was able to add queues, and I would've been the delay if it wasn't for Ira. Checked in one pick away! But made my queue to get us around the turn, and should be able to keep a steady queue flowing for the rest of the draft. Excellent projected finish right now, and if the weekend doesn't kill us, we should be in great shape for a fast finish!

Probably would have been unfair to Ira anyway as he couldn't set a queue till the draft was turned on and would have been asleep then...

How are we going to go about adding our teams into Yahoo? Are we going to do it individually, is the commish going to do it? Just wondering, as it's been a while since I've done a Roto-League, interested in seeing how this all falls together.

FYI - I texted Taxman... looks like his queue must have been emptied, because he does have one set for the 5th Round.

Apologies for running clock this morning. I had a queue set, but didn't hit auto pick for that pick. Got confused when copying queue to next pick (20 picks later as if it mattered) and hit auto pick for that later pick.

Pays off to ck your work and to NOT be separated from your phone Thank you IAC. Again, sorry for having people wait around because of my ADD (and stupidity)

Please.. please text me again should stupidity overtakes me again.

No worries Tax. I also sent you a text.

FYI I can send you all reminders if I you choose to send me your cell #s. email or yahoo would be the best place to pass on the details.

IAC I'm entering the picks as we draft. Usually after a round or two. We'll be ready for opening day.

So, is the draft on Pause for the weekend?

I don't mind if it is; I just wasn't sure by the settings.

Yes it is. I was a dumby and didn't realize I set it for Fri/Sat/Sun. Draftime won't allow edits to a pause while in a pause so we are stuck with it until Monday.

It's the first weekend. We're through 6 rounds. I'll adjust it if need be for next week. But we are moving at a fairly good pace.

A pause doesn't mean that the draft has to stop completely, it just means that there is no clock. Hopefully we can get some picks in during the weekend.

We are averaging 2 picks per manager a day. At this pace we'll be done by midweek. Nice work everyone.

I'll have plenty of time to set the waiver priority and have all the picks ready to go by the time the season starts.

We are done in less than a week. Good job everyone.

I have entered the draft results in yahoo. Please check out your teams and report any errors immediately. If I don't hear anything by Saturday I'll start the season.

to check the results go to: Draft Central > draft results.

I'll set up a Draft Recap thread for those of us that are interested.

in Sochi, hockey plays Russia!

anyone else get as hooked and love the Olympics as much as this Canadian fan? :)

i've been kinda sleepwalking through this season, but very inspired for a late season push now. when can we add Kristers Gudlevskis??? anyone want in on this minnesota goalie situation in some way? harding isn't yet cheap but he's definitely on sale. backstrom is cheap. kuemper? i'd like to give him a chance while he's hot and then probably dump him, but if someone likes him longer term, send an offer or message.

Congrats CSF!

Looking back at my recap, I had 1-2 pegged correctly, but my team wasn't able to grabbed that 3rd slot, due to my late season troubles. 5th aint bad though. I feel gave a "good run" for my 1st year back at RotoGuru Hockey. Hopefully the "turn over" of talent (Keepers) next year will leave me slightly better to start the year.

Congrats to CSF!! Real dominant finish in the final 3 months or so.. His 4 headed monster (Sid, Great 8, Kessel and Quick) finally took him to the top.

My team was in the mix up until the final 3 weeks when the wheels finally fell off. I liked my offence for the most part, even though I gave up on a couple of guys a bit too early, who turned out to be real difference makers as the season wore on (O'reilly and Jagr to name a couple). But it was my goaltending that sunk me.. Rinne's absense and horrific inconsistency from those that I asked to step in..

Thanks for a fun season, everyone.
