Hi RGFHLers, hope everyone had a great off-season, and Cobwebs was able spend quality time partying with this 2024-25 championship.
Starting this thread to commemorate flipping the switch on at Yahoo for the new 2025-26 fantasy hockey season. All managers from last year should also be receiving the e-mail alert from Yahoo. Not only do i hope everyone returns, but i hope we can also find a way to add 1 or a few more managers via expansion as well to make the league whole again. If any RGFHLer has a friend/relative they feel may like to join, feel free to extend an invite. If you are a forum lurker and are interested, drop a line here and we'll get you setup. League settings in separate post below for reference. Finally, returning managers please leave a message indicating you're back, and well get to sorting the start dates for various league items.

Roster positions to draft:
3 C, 3 LW, 3 RW, 5 D, 1 Util, 2 G, 4 bench.
Miscellaenous positions:
1 IR position for IR players
1 IR+ position for day to day, and out type players.
Draft Order is the reverse of the final finish from last year. Off-line slow draft via draftime.com
Forwards/Defensemen Stat Categories:
Goals (G), Assists (A), Plus/Minus (+/-), Powerplay Points (PPP), Shorthanded Points (SHP), Shots on Goal (SOG), Hits (HIT), Blocks (BLK)
Goaltenders Stat Categories:
Wins (W), Saves (SV), Save Percentage (SV%)

I will be traveling between September 17 and 25 and I will have limited access to the internet. Depending on the timing of the draft, this might affect whether I can be in the pool this season. If the draft is well underway before I leave, I can set up queues. However, I don't want to do that early in the draft, but I also don't want to hold up the draft for others.

That’s no problem, Little M. I think we can accommodate, given the NHL season starts on October 7, we could even start the live draft on Sept 26 (or 1-2 days before), for example, and still have 11 days to get the draft completed. We typically finish in the 10-12 days range anyways.

I don't mind starting the draft earlier, as long as people won't get upset if I take a while to pick. I should be able to get on a computer a couple of times a day, but it could be 12 hours or longer between the times I can get on-line. I just don't want to spoil other people's enjoyment by slowing things down.

I always prefer extra time if we're doing a slow draft anyways. It's hard being in such a different timezone and having to build a 9-player queue before going to bed only to wake up with the anxiety of being at my pick for the following round after that and an empty queue

Ok, by my count we have 6 managers confirmed so far (myself, foot, Ira, Fosten, Cobwebs, Little M), and 3 still to chime in (Taxman, Perm Dude, Always Julie). I've sent a league wide email via Yahoo as well as a reminder. Hopefully we'll have all managers from last year returning.

Hey guys, were getting down to the part where we need to start setting some deadlines and dates (keeper submission, draft start date, etc). The issue is we still only have 6 managers declared so far, with no idea of when or if the remaining missing 3 are returning. Season starts on October 7, and it's September 12/13 depending on which part of the world you're in which leaves us around 24-25 days until puck drop. Or, about 1 more week before we need to pick a direction to go.
6 managers is a pretty lean league if it comes to that, and id like some feedback on what plan we can take to prevent leaving things too late. Just some throwing some ideas out:
1. Set a deadline for the missing managers to join up before their teams are vacated. All vacated teams' players enter free agency pool. Then on to #2
2. Advertise RGFHL league openings on other sites (HFboards, Dobberhockey, etc) and attempt to recruit more managers (up to 12?). Our league's unique settings and slow draft would require some time for any new manager to acquaint themselves to, which is why i want to get out early on this.
3. Any new manager that joins picks 4 players designated as their "keeper" from FA pool before draft starts so we can run the draft as per normal pacing and spacing
Alternatively:
4. Start year 20 with only 6 managers
5. Depending on overall feedback - pause RGFHL for this season
Please let me know your thoughts. Like most of you im trying to weave the start of draft season into my daily routine, and with a kid entering kindergarten and just more on the plate of life in general, it'd be great to have everyone's productive input.

Correction for point #1.
All vacated teams would be left up for grabs to any new manager found to select their keeper set from. For example: 3 new managers would pick keepers from the 3 vacated teams. Then any new manager after that would pick keepers from FA pool before draft.

I am not comfortable with any new agents getting to pick keepers from all of the vacated teams. If there was only one new manager, they could pick McDavid, Draisaitl, Reinhart, Hagel Aho, Pastrnak or Marner, amongst other good players. Picking any 4 of these would give the new team a huge advantage. If there is only one new team, then I would suggest that they pick one of the vacated teams and choose their keepers from that one team.
If there are 3 new teams and these players are spread between the three teams, then picking from the free agent pool is more acceptable.

Let me clarify - i meant a new manager would be able to pick ONE of the vacated teams, and only pick their keepers from WITHIN that team. I believe we had a similar recruitment period 2-3 seasons ago with 2 managers joining and this method working well (and most importantly kept things moving).

Hate to have to say it, but I'm afraid I won't be motivated to participate this year in a league having less than 8 teams.
I'm happy with the alternatives of recruiting new members or taking a year off (however I'd be nervous of the viability of this league if we forgo the latter).

I’ve been in contact with Taxman. He will be MIA for an indefinite period of time coming up, but has just authorized and appointed me to draft and manage his team for him until he returns (TBD). I also have his keepers. If the league is ok with that arrangement, that leaves us with 8 (with the returning Always Julie), and we can start submitting keepers and set the draft start date. I’ll leave a short window here to discuss, we need to get moving.

Ok everyone, the draft is live. Double check your keepers are correct on Draftime. Picks will be entered in Yahoo as we progress and when time allows.
As per usual, take advantage of the queuing feature on Draftime and make your picks available via Auto-pick. Well need to squeeze everything in before NHL season puck drop on October 7.

Friendly reminder for your team to be valid after the draft, you need to draft at least the minimum amount of starting players for each position - 3 centers, 3 LW, 3 RW, 5 D and 2 G for your team to be valid to start the season:

REMINDER: One more (and hopefully last) thing - i noticed most everyone is using the Queue at Draftime which is great. To take real advantage of the system, you'll want to turn the "Auto-Pick" setting to "ON" and add any delay you wish. Otherwise, even will a filled queue, the draft will still sit at your pick even when it's your turn.
