Subject: Memorable Day in "the Chamber"

  Posted by: Mike D - Leader [041831612] Mon, Mar 05, 2007, 17:29

13 trades made (and pending) in one day. This on the heels of 2 in the last 2 days by one skinneej (through Ref and Farn).

Ref called it "Bloody Monday;" I call it "bloody good fun!"

Felt like I was in Trading Places, in the close-to-final scene where they were trading on Wall Street.

They'll be pushed tomorrow by our rules, opening the door for more. Deadline is Thursday. Tree is already calling for "Tuesday Trade Off," where everybody has to do at least one trade. I can't even tell who is in the Trades Made (TM) lead! Tomorrow will be clearer. I hope.

I had finally taken the trade lead at 5 before this onslaught. Now I will have to wait to see where I am after the carnage clears. I made one more today, so that is 6 for me, but I think I am trailing GO now after he pulled 5 freakin trades off today. That will go down as well as a Chamber record. I have tried unsuccessfully to get DaveR in the mix, but he didn't want to swap two scrub Hawks players with me. Dangit.

How about posting a screenshot of that page before pushing them all through tomorrow? Its possible, right?

I have 4 players I haven't traded from my entire team. I'd like to move all 4 to complete this incredible feat.

Luke Walton - likely back this week. Should put some good numbers up the rest of the way with all the other LAL injuries.
Richard Jefferson - dressed this weekend, working back into rotation this week and should be strong the rest of the way as well.
Jason Williams - really gonna benefit from DWade not playing for the remaining games. Has been pretty good since that happened.
Damien Wilkins - minutes way up due to injuries, Ray Allen has season ending surgery hovering over him, Wilkins would get a chance to do what he did a couple months ago (and thats great production across the board).

Dave R is the only one to not get any. I could have made several more trades, but after all I'm in first place right now trying to hold on. Wish Mike D would get off my butt and give me some breathing room!!!

Dave, you still have a lot of work to do. Only two days left and you still have most of your original players. Ha!

I still have my first two picks (Yao and Allen) as well as Al Harrington left from my draft. I had several discussions involving Al, but I can't let him go for peanuts. 18 and 8 plus 1.6 3s since his trade to GS ain't shabby, all from a center eligible player no less. Come on, where are the KG and Marion deals for this guy? I want to get some of these sweet pickin's while they last.

Well, another season of the Chamber is drawing nigh. After starting tradeapolooza, my team was able to find a way to be inches away on the last day. In fact, this is the first time in the last 3 seasons that I remember MikeD not having had it in the bag for the last week. See I told you guys last year that we did not have to let him win it every year. I'm sure he will still invite us all back even if he finishes 2nd or 3rd! :)

Well, tonight will surely be interesting as several key categories will change hands. MikeD has reached his limits and will be spectating - an unusual position to say the least. As it stands, MikeD will lose 1 pt in rebs tonight to Ref since he is only up by 3 and Ref has a full slate going. That alone puts MikeD and I in a tie for 1st. Ref would be behind by 1.5. However, Ref also is likely to gain .5 pts on my team since we are tied in FT% and he has stacked his team with high FT shooters for the last night. That would put MikeD at 78, me at 77.5 and Ref at 77. My team will gain .5 pts tonight in Asts since Tree has reached his limits and I have a full slate going. That now puts me and MikeD tied again at 78 and Ref at 77. Head hurting yet???

Now, the last category that is in play is blocks. RSF leads Ref in blks by 4 and leads my team by 11. With the guys going tonight, and using last week averages, Ref should only get 3.3 blks. So with RSF likley to gain more blks also, Ref may not be able to overtake him there. If he does, then Ref would gain one point and be in a three-way tie for 1st at 78. I do not see a tie-break scenario for Roto play, so I think we would all share 1st.

Now my team would gain 10 blocks using the last week averages, but I think it will be hard to catch either one. Too bad Camby is out tonight! Doh! The one other category that I could gain in is Rebs. I am 35 behind MikeD who is idle. My team should get 57 rebs based on last week averages, but it is hard to project who all will get significant minutes. I am sitting guys like Carmelo, Tony Parker and R. Hamilton plus Terry because of this.

Well, it has come down the last night and this one will go down to the wire. I'd like to say my team has a good shot at this, but I don't want to get too excited. I have another H2H league to worry about as well tonight where myself and the first place team are tied 4-4 and two cats are still very close. I will not sleep until the final whistle is blown!

Ha. The only way you could gain is if your pct categories were close to someone who still had guys playing. I did forget that the FG% category could be a factor as well. I am only .001 ahead of PD and Ref is .002 behind MikeD. At this point in the season, it is very hard to move more than 1/100th of a pct. If I were to drop a half a point or a full point there, I am dead I think.

It will probably be a little confusing tonight to figure out since StatTracker still shows points for teams that are maxed out in their totals. Well, the 10pm games will be starting soon, so I will take a break, watch Lost, and check back in an hour!

Wow. Didn't see that coming. In the end, I was able to gain .5 in FT%, .5 in ast, 1 in reb and 2 in blks on the last day. Getting the blocks was a huge surprise, but it definitely takes managing the roster the last week or two to make it happen. Who would have thought that sitting Anthony, Terry, Camby, Hamilton and Parker on the last day for the likes of Stromile, Diop and Amir Johnson would have been the difference maker. Those 3 combined for 11 blocks the final night. I have to give a serious shout out to Camby for his madness the last couple weeks, with 41 blocks over his last 9 games played. Wow!

Well, finally I have beaten the master at his own game. When the deals started flying off the table, I could sense the fear. At one point, I imagined MikeD at the office having all his calls held so he could figure out how to get in on the action. As always, he managed to pull a few big ones over as we all were gunning for the same players. It was like playing defense and offense at the same time. Although, I will have to sanction a few teams for their unilateral deals without getting three-way talks going. Believe me, the KG and Marion deals could have been a lot more tasty for those teams dealing them if the triggers were not as quick.

In looking back at a couple of my deals during the trading frenzy, I thought I might have just been swapping categories. At one point I thought I had an insurmountable lead in 3 cats (3s, stls and asts). I managed to hold onto the steals, but in the end, I gave a way a few too many 3s and assists and had to scramble at the end to recover. It is always hard to project just how big a lead you can sustain in a category when you begin trading them away. My big gains were in pts, rebs and blks from the trading. I was able to pass those ahead of me in those categories for the most part which allowed my team to go from a near 10 point deficit a little over a month ago to the lead just in the nick of time.

Well, it was fun and I look forward to more frenzied trading fun next season. Maybe we institute trading Tuesday next season, but I think it would have to wait until a month or two into the season where each team gets comfortable with what they have. I think part of what fueled the frenzy was that some teams had given up on winning and just wanted to get in on the fun. Others were facing public ridicule, so whatever gets the ball rolling is good with me!

I had an absolut ehorrid draft, but was masterful at finding the diamonds on the wire. Went from worst to first in a couple weeks time and basiclaly stayed there for much of the season. Then I went over GPs. I made the same mistake here as I did in G20 and cut back too soon. Then every single trade I made backfired. Injuries just annhilated me. My studs were all hurt. But hey, that's the breaks. We all had injuries and that's a part of the game you have to deal with.

Grats skinneeej. Heck of a comeback!

This was a 2 team race for a looooong time between Ref and I. When skinneej passed us for the first time a couple weeks ago, I went---what, is this a Yahoo error????? Then I looked closer and said, this is a 3 team race! skinneej was clearly in stealth mode, and in great form. Kudos for being in first at the end, which is when it counts.

bah. all you people are dismissing my co-championship, earned by winning the much-coveted TM Championship.

and let me tell you! i will wear this title with pride - i will be a fighting champion! anytime, any place. doesn't matter if it's a hardwood floor, the blacktop, or some parquet crap. and if we gotta throw a cage around it to keep it real, then let's throw that cage around it! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

um. oh. wrong sport?

Tree, you were an absolute force at the trading deadline, coming from literally nowhere to winning the TM title. Once you got rolling, it was insane how many deals you pulled in a short period of time.

But can you do it again? Was this a once in a lifetime effort? Can you show the trading consistency that has haunted RSF, GO, and others over the years? The type of attitude where even if you are in first place and destined to win the league, you feel a magical pull, a tingling desire to deal, with willful and wanton recklessness and abandon, so as to quench that thirst for respect in the dark underworld of traders of years past? Can you exemplify the motto that traders are born, made, and crowned? That no one remembers winners......only traders?

May you not rest on your TM title laurels.....for we will be coming......to reclaim.....the throne.

I don't know, maybe he's loosening up. Earlier in the year I offered him A Jefferson and someone else for Billups. He got mad at me because I offered him someone I got off the WW for Billups. Turns out both of my guys were much better than Billups. I thought about thanking him for not trading me, but didn't want to upset him. That's ok, he got me back at the deadline by trading me guys who didn't do anything for guys that did. ;)

I always hate that theory when people hold on to players for that reason... like not trading for someone off the waiver wire or some hidden gem you picked in the last round or whatever.

The usual "he was my 1st round pick" response... well if the guy isn't living up to it (i.e. a guy like Kirilenko) - and my "Al Jefferson" is blowing his doors off. Then step up, show some guts, make a freaking trade and try and make your team better.

So - if thats the case I would offer to commish this. And if that fails, I will start a new league with the exact same rules and call it the GO-limination Chamber!

So regardless - there will be a league this year!!! Who is in? so far...

I'll sign up but I can't make a draft. I'm coaching basketball and being on the west coast there is no time that will work for everyone else.

So I'll go with autodraft and hope for the best. Will certainly make trading easier to live with.

I will reconsider as well. I am only doing one keeper league this year since it is weekly moves, but I am having some withdrawals at getting to do a redraft league. I am set up now at my work location for the next month, so I can try to be on for whatever time you guys set. Nights are better so I can be there live, but I will rank my players just in case.

Need Ref, RSF and a few others to make this league complete again. I will do my best to defend the secondary title (league winner)! :)

Anytime Friday.
Anytime Saturday.
Up til 3 PM Sunday.
Up til 5 PM Monday

Sure would suck if this Sunday won't work now, cause that Monday night I moved out of was the latest time available.

We could seriously just have everyone do a good, deep pre-rank and Autodraft it Monday night.
Everyone throw down some available times and quick - cause they keep disappearing.

I was really hoping for a live one though.

I just realized Saturday and Sunday are bad for me, unless it is later Sunday night. At this point trying to find a date convenient for all will be next to impossible. So

1) set the draft and let those how can't make it autodraft
2) set the time and have everyone autodraft
3) explore Tuesday even though the season starts that date. I see no downside to that option, if all are available

I think 2 or 3 make the most sense, personally

1) set the draft and let those how can't make it autodraft (Sunday at 5:45)
2) set the time and have everyone autodraft (I'll set up the Autodraft for Monday Night so players will be available for Tuesday morning)
3) explore Tuesday even though the season starts that date. I see no downside to that option, if all are available
