I will activate the draft momentarily. The clock will not start until Wednesday morning, and any picks tonight are strictly optional. You can, however, begin to set up a queue if you expect timing conflicts tomorrow.
We will proceed with a 6 hour clock. The draft clock will continue through weekends. There will be a clock moratorium each night from 1am until 7am Eastern time. Picks can continue to be made during the moratorium period, but the clock will be paused. Those picking at the endpoints do not get a double clock. In addition, if anyone is already in arrears for a pick when their next pick is due, they do not necessarily get a second clock period. This will be subject to Commissioner discretion.
The draft is configured for only PG, SG, SF, PF, and C. Many players will be eligible for multiple positions; just choose the position designation that seems most appropriate. This is only for the purposes of displaying the draft results, and has no bearing on your eventual usage options.
Our roster configuration will be as follows: PG, SG, G, G PF, SF, F, F C, C Util, Util 3 bench 2 DL
Yahoo position eligibility will be used throughout the season. You are advised to check the Yahoo league site prior to selecting any player to ensure that you know that player's position eligibility at the start of the season.
You do not need to draft a completely valid roster.
Following the draft, all undrafted players will be placed on waivers, and waiver priorities will start out in inverse draft order.
You may draft a player who is not currently listed at Yahoo. If you do so, you will be assigned a placeholder player at Yahoo until the drafted player is made available, at which time you must pick up that player as a free agent (without using a waiver priority). After the 15 rounds of the draft are completed, you can no longer claim an unlisted player.
This league will have a limit of 84 games per position. Since there are 2 slots for each of G, F, C, and U, those position slots will be subject to a combined limit of 168 games.
Here are my ground rules for selecting from a queue: If you have a queue and make it available, and it is your turn to pick, I will make your pick if I'm around - unless you have provided specific instructions via email or in this thread. Therefore, do not make (or leave) your queue available if you do not want it used.
You can specify that only the top name on your queue is to be displayed, or that the entire queue is to be shown. If you make the entire queue visible, I'll certainly check for any emails that might provide additional instructions. You can also authorize a DP to make a selection "free-form" (i.e., typing in the name, rather than selecting from a preset list.) Presumably, you would elect this only if you provide specific instructions to your DP(s).
Regardless, be aware that your queue is not visible to me or to any other designated picker until it is your turn to pick.
Please refrain from mentioning any undrafted player in this thread. You can use this thread to alert others about your availability, to request volunteers to accept a queue, to raise questions about draft rules or mechanics, to solicit trade offers or announce trades, etc.
Based on recent drafts, it is reasonable to expect that we will complete approximately 24 picks (2 full rounds) per day. Do not assume that you'll have a day off.
After two rounds have been completed, I will start a separate thread for draft rationales. We will then try to keep the rationale thread on a 2 round delay.

You may use the following links to track the various RIHC drafts:
RIHC
RIHC AAA #1
RIHC AAA #2
RIHC AA #1
In each case, a sequential list of picks appears first, followed by a position grid.

I've left a que for tommorrow. It can be used for my two picks but I'm not sure if the players will still be available. I am working until about 3:30 Eastern so if the draft goes ahead and my picks are used up and I time out then it will have to go on without me.

Um, .. we're up to pick 3.04 and we're still waiting for the first rationale.
1.01 JL 1.02 Jason 1.03 sR
If you guys aren't ready to post when you draft, please add a placeholder.
I'll add three placeholders for now, but it is responsibility of everyone to keep those up to date - with placeholders, if not rationales.

I will be stepping out for several hours, so I'm leaving a queue for Guru and Species. Here are my instructions: The first two players on my queue play the same position. I want you to take ONE of those first two players. The next player on the queue will play a different position. Draft that player with my second pick. If the first two players on the queue do not play the same position(and it will be obvious), then that means that Jason has picked one of those two players. In that situation, just follow the queue as you would any other queue.
I would just send an email, but I need to leave right now.

JL has left a queue with ample names. Per post 60, he has also requested that we allow him 2 hours before picking from that queue.
I'll certainly honor his request. (I don't know if he designated anyone else as a DP, but if so, I expect them to honor it as well.)
So, you should assume that his picks will be made by 3:40pm ET. Please plan your Round 11 picks accordingly. If you cannot be available before your European bedtimes, please be sure to leave a queue.

Funny - Species' rationale on Ben Wallace (in the rationale thread) generated a spam warning alert. I read through it several times, trying to figure out why the software (which I wrote) was flagging this as potentially spam.
Then I noticed that he used the word "specialists" twice.

We're moving right along, and should finish the draft by tomorrow. Maybe even tonight. I figured I should clue you all in to the "schedule" leading up to opening day.
I should have all draft picks entered into Yahoo by Friday morning at the absolute latest. I'll aim to activate the league no later than Friday evening. At that point, all undrafted players will be on waivers for 48 hours. Waiver priorities will be in reverse order of the draft, so CC will have top priority, and JL will be at the bottom. Any waiver claims that are awarded will clear in time for opening day lineups.
If you have any players who are eligible for an injury slot, you may pick up a new player (via waivers or free agency) without dropping anyone. We will use the Injury Slot thread as a central clearinghouse, so if you have a player to declare as injured and no one else has made that declaration yet, you should post your intent in that thread. You may assume that Brand and Wade already qualify.
Once waivers have been processed (either Sunday or Monday), you may pick up free agents freely, keeping in mind that two of your bench slots are for IS players only.
At the completion of the draft, please submit the rest of your rationales by posting them in this thread. I'll copy them over to the Rationale thread. It's easier to keep them in the proper sequence that way.
I'll also initiate a draft recap thread, where you can provide your observations on the draft. Posting in that thread is optional. Rationales, however, are mandatory - so please work to complete them as soon as the draft is over.
Have I forgotten anything?

Only injured players qualify. A player who is suspended or not on a roster is not eligible for an injury slot unless he was already injured and in that slot at the time he was suspended or released (in which case he can remain there.)
In other words, Varejao cannot be moved to an injury slot at the start of the season.

This is just a flyer on a player with a lot of potential. He could be a decent source of steals that doesn't kill you in FG%.
15.01 Jason Kapono, SF, Tor
I was surprised to see Kapono drop this far. He's useful 3's specialist that had excellent %'s last season, with 49% FG and 89% FT. You can't ask for much more in the 15th round.

11.06 Cuttino Mobley,SG,LAC Still trying to add a little depth at guard. I think Mobley may benefit from the Brand injury in LA also. That is if he can stay healthy himself.
12.07 Martell Webster,SG/SF,Por I was just impressed with the numbers Webster was putting up in pre-season. I feel he's an excellent shooter and will get lots of minutes to take pressure off Aldridge on the inside.
13.06 Grant Hill,SF,Pho I'm expecting part time replacement minutes from Hill. I know he won't play 75 games he puts up good numbers when he plays. I figure 55-60 games and fill in his missed games elsewhere. He worked pretty well in this role for me lasy tear so why not try again.
14.07 McCants,PG/SG,Min After the fact I'll call it a lucky guess. I took McCants hoping he would emerge from the logjam at guard in Minnesota. He has a lot of potential and I'm just hoping to get some quality time.
15.06 Dampier,C,Dal I felt my front line was covered well enough to gamble on what Dampier could do when he comes back.
