YEAH!
I've disliked the Bulls for nearly twenty years. It wasn't easy to maintain this grudge earlier this decade because they were so bad, but then they draft clowns like Kirk Hinrich and some Dookies and it became easier again. I am glad to see Skiles go because I think he is a great coach and I don't want to see the Bulls become a force again.
This year has been hilarious. When was the last time a team was picked to be their conference champion and then immediately sucked so bad without any injuries to blame? This isn't baseball where teams can come out of no where to win a pennant, this is the NBA, the easiest sport to pick the champ.
Their demise is easy to understand. Their unnatural love of Luol Deng will forever be their loadstone. They could have landed Pau Gasol last year if they would have let Memphis have him. Even worse, they could have sent him and finally been rid of Hinrich. Hey, Bulls fans, you are paying this tiny, ineffective little man $12mil/year. Give him to the Lakers, get Kobe Bryant, and the Sonics will gladly fill your need of a small white guard who can't shoot better than 40% from the field or threes at all by giving you Luke Ridenour.
Nah, instead you stay put and your team flat out sucks. Go see if you can coax Tony Kukoch out of retirement! |

Your Deng problem stems from the fact that he went to Duke, I suspect Zen. I like him--he does jist fine at 18/6/2 but the Bulls have virtually no talent and they (as you note) are vastly overpayimg Wallace & Hinrich. For that much money, they should be getting a lot more out of both those guys.

Deng is a good player, no doubt. He simply is not nor will ever be a franchise player. There are at least 50 Deng-quality players in the league. I couldn't believe the Bulls wouldn't part with him for Gasol and will never understand their reluctance to acquire Kobe.

SZ, my favorite resident West Coast Homer... :)
I am a diehard Bulls fan and much to my chagrin and wholeheartedly agree with your thorough assesment of the situation.
Also, another thing the Bulls managed to mess up was the LaMarcus Aldridge/Tyrus Thomas trade. What was the one thing the Bulls needed to compliment their "potent" backcourt? Low Post Scoring! (again, why trading for Gasol makes sense...)
Of course we draft a guy who is a solid big man in Aldridge (who fit the need) and trade him away. Sure hes more of a catch and shoot type center, but he'd still provide the low post scoring that we desperately needed. Aldridge would've been a great compliment to Big Ben and I think with him we would at least be respectable this season.
But NOOOOOOOOOOOO! we get stuck with f'n joakim noah and tyrus thomas who both stink.
Note, we still have Thabo Sefolosha to show for it. Afterall, Thabo shut down a battered, beleagured, and injured D-Wade in the playoffs and hasnt done crap since...

Good to be a Bulls fan right now :)
They have sucked at top picks lately, but I believe their last #1 pick was Elton Brand. He turned out to be pretty good.

Why all the Bulls hate? 90s get you down with all of our titles?
Good to be a Bulls fan today...
I think the Bulls would have given up anyone on their roster for Kobe...problem is Kobe did not want to come to a stripped down team and he was pretty much controling the possible trade.
Deng is probably a nice number 3 player on a good team. He is a nice player...will score ~18, 7 boards...ok defender...shoots 50% midrange. Never will be a superstar but I do still think he has some upside...he is still 23 years old so I do think he may get better. Kind of player that is valuable but never will be the main player on a good team.
This will be an interesting offseason now that we have the #1...everyone wants Rose...he is a hometown Chicago kid...Beasley may be a better fit for us but it seems like the entire city will revolt if they do not take Rose. They definitely need to make another big move besides the draft pick...I expect some combination of Hinrich/Gordon/Deng/Nocioni/Thomas/Gooden will be traded for one player...like Carmelo or a big man.

They can make a run at Brand if he opts out of LA as well. That would solve their post issue fast.

Brand is certainly still loved in this city...he would be a good fit...can score at will in the post...not a great defender but capable and Noah will defend the opponents best low post player.

I expect some combination of Hinrich/Gordon/Deng/Nocioni/Thomas/Gooden will be traded for one player...like Carmelo (LMAO!!!) or a big man.
The Bulls have sat on those players for over two years when obvious moves were there to be made, I think management is simply incapable of pulling the trigger.
Like Carmello... That's hilarious. You must call into sports radio talkshows regularly.

I am not sure why Carmelo is laughable? Supposedly Carmelo is on the block...if some combination of those players was talked about for Kobe...I think Carmelo would take less. Denver stands to lose him in two years when he opts out of his contract.
Not that it would have to be Carmelo...just an example. They need to consolidate some of these ok/good players into one better player...
I agree that management should have made trades...I think they are capable...and mainly I think lucking out and getting this first pick changes things and may make Paxson a bit bolder.
Seattle Zen...Glad to see you jumping on the Bulls bandwagon and talking Chicago basketball! Welcome ;-)

I've been hearing reports that the Bulls have hired Doug Collins to be their next coach. Not sure what to think of it at this point.
