Subject: Kentucky Indians GMD team -- TP2

  Posted by: ki @ work - [2836246] Thu, Dec 10, 2009, 16:32

It is a long season. If I remember right, last year I was on the team that won the first trading period and ended up finishing third or forth.

I have PURPOSELY not sent out a private group e-mail after I asked for all your emails. After thinking about it, I decided that I think that would defeat one of the primary goals of starting GMD. GMD should continue to encourage dialogue on how this game is played. There is no prize for winning GMD, just personal pride. If the other teams learn something from how we play... GREAT. We need more people to play and they way I have always learned was listening/reading the posts of the the best players in the game... Look at the Hall of Fame! We are the best players in the world! It is a great blessing to be able to have the best share there thoughts! If people feel differently, I will be glad to get a forum for "private dialogue" started.

For me playing with all of you is an honor and a privilege. I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am.

Thu, Dec 10, 2009, 12:57 Plans are to move Ellis/Morrow/Noah to Durant/Camby/someone.

I have enough cash to be able to move either Noah or Ellis to Durant now. Obviously, both Noah and Ellis play on Friday and Saturday, while Durant plays only on Friday. So, from a strict game count, I'm better off by waiting until Sunday to get Durant.

However, how do you suppose two Ellis games (@Chi, @Det) or two Noah games (GSW, Bos) will compare to one Durant game (@Mem). My thinking is that 2 Ellis games should outpoint one Durant game - but I'm not as sure about Noah. He should be fine vs. GSW, but the Boston game may not be as good.

Further, I'm not sure what the relative price movements will be for each over the next three days. Durant should certainly go up starting today, while Ellis and Noah will probably start leaking now.

So - assuming that Noah is a better drop than Ellis, would you be inclined to move Noah=>Durant today? I'm thinking that even if the point differential is unfavorable, it might be worth the price differential.

I agree with you about posting in here vs email. One of the things that makes this forum so interesting is the posts everyone makes. Once GMD started each year the non GMD weekly trade thread dropped off a lot. This year it died off completely so now the discussions are GMD or nothing. I am all in favor of posting over email.

To your team/post in #1 FWIW, I traded Noah x 3 today and will keep Ellis x 4 thru his B2B.

To my team plans:

Holding Thompson long term into the new year. Even if he made $0 money during that time, he produces well for price and will help conserve trades.

Ellis will go on Sunday, most likely to Durant.

Nothing else planned at the moment since I am not sold on Camby only because he is short term hold and an injury risk.

I'm glad to be back with ya'll. I'm 60 miles SOUTH of the Northern boarder of Maine so I have that southern drawl. When I type.

I cannot afford Durant so it looks like it will probably be Ellis/Noah (after their B2B) to Camby/Westbrook or Gordon (for their B2B).

Glenn, if you buy Gordon from Ellis, that should give you enough cash to get Durant from Noah. That's effectively my plan...

OK to do the Ellis to Durant I need $0.08 money as of today.... so I will certainly need more by Sunday morning.... I try to preach patience because it usually pays off... but Corey Brewer looks to me like that was just a mistake!? and the cheapie guard that I like (given Danny Granger is out for a month and the terrific schedule) is Dahntey Jones... Brewer is gonna bleed tonight! So Brewer to Jones tonight nets me a $0.58 window for the move into Durant on Sunday.... I don't think that is gonna be enough TSN$$??

I think I can do that now but the window closes before Sunday. I'll look at it again. Thanks. Yeah, I only have 80k to spare today. So I would lose 2 games. Camby/Westbrook project same as Durant/Gordon but I would feel better with Durant.

I have been deciding all night to trade either morrow or brewer ... not both but one of them into dahntay jones today. I have an hour decide, i can't decide which of the two will be the bigger bleeder over the next 3 days.

Eric Gordon from the Clippers??? not seeing him on my radar at all... explain that one to me??.... Cheapie guards I like would be Jones(Indy), J. Willy(Orlando)--but he seams to be being ignored; and Douglas-Roberts and Morrow but they are highly owned and dry up next week.

problem with eric gordon is that his schedule is very short i don't know if you would want to get into a cheapie for just a week and a half. Also since he came back from his injury he has been pretty erratic putting up a 3 and 13.5 game. in that time.

Definitely don't get morrow he is on my soon to go list as I'm sure he is just as ready to bleed as much as corey.

thought about trading Jason Thompson to maybe a Carl Landry for a little $$$ but the more I think about that, the Sacramento Schedule comes back really strong on the 15th... I agree illmatic that the GSW dry up next week... on a non GMD team I am moving Stephan Curry tonight as well.

Not sure where I'm going this week (3 trades remaining):
Curry, CDR, Ellis (12/13), Evans
Lebron, Ariza, Thompson, Gasol
Noah (12/13), Boozer

Been a real struggle RV-wise the past 2 weeks. I only have 30k in reserve, so I figure I need to find 2 players with a combined $10 mil to leave enough cash to get out of CDR and Curry next week. Westbrook, Scola. Would love to get Durant, but I'd have to combo him with a 1.5-2mil cheapie.

If you need a real cheapie, Tyler Hansbrough has put up two nice games since Granger's injury. It may be just random noise, but he might be a better gambit than Dahntay Jones, who really hasn't shown much in those two game. Hansbrough is also $1 millions cheaper than Dahntay.

I'm not planning to get him (yet, at least), but worth keeping an eye on...

I need a cheapie to make
CDR/Deng/Noah become Durant/Westbrook tonight
If I do CDR to Hansbrough now I won't lose CDR's TSNP tomorrow

KI- I like Evans vs the wolves and this should be the cheapest u see Evans for a while.

Funny thing I bought Kobe instead of Camby because I didn't want to deal with the injury risk assoc with Camby. I own Kobe for less than a quarter and he breaks his finger. He is an amazing player regardless of TSN hoops. How many guys would be able to play thru a broken finger on their dominant hand.

That's 2 good on Hans... 32 and 35.5

I think I've left myself with no wiggle room
was going CDR/Deng/Noah to Hansbrough/Durant/Westbrook...only have 10 left so that's not gonna go
I currently have 70 left to do CDR/Noah -> Hans/Durant while keeping Deng
Will Noah and Durant change that much to make that a no go?
Or do I replace Westbrook?

I like Lowery. If you are buying a cheapie I would want to get a guy you can carry to 2010 or beyond. Landry, Wallace, Varejao, Brooks and Thompson are your top 5 guys to consider and Landry projects to be well ahead of Gordon at 7th. Gordon has to go before the new year.

KI, I love Brook Lopez, and currently own him, but at this point you'd be buying for 5 games at most. With 5 trades, maybe that's a luxury you can afford.

Can you afford Camby. At least he's good for around 12 days. How about Murphy, he seems to be heating up and his schedule goes forever it seems

Love Lopez too, but the more I think of it... I agree he is too short term a hold. I could do Murphy, but for me... I cannot seem to figure the whole Indiana Pacers team out right now??? Granger went down and my first thought was Dahntey was gonna continure to do what he has done all year; yesterday's pacer of the day was Hansboro, today its Murphy; next game we could be talking about Hibbert again or Rush or Dunleavey??? They have me confused right now.

Was not seeing the love for Westbrook until this morning. He is kindof the same fantasy player in my mind as Mo Williams (Cleve.).... probably not gonna be spectacular, but with a strong schedule and firm grasp of heavy playing time I think he will score points.

And talking about great schedule well into January..... Tim Duncan seems to be getting no love at all in my mind???

I'm caught in the CDR nightmare. I used my last 2 trades today on Ellis/Noah for Durant/Varejao and found out about the injury after CDR locked. I had time to undo and research combo's with holding a trade to get out of CDR tomorrow. Absolutely nothing worked so I went back to my original plan and will have to eat whatever happens with CDR the next 2 days.

Moving CDR to Dunleavy today. Got stuck with CDR yesterday, but hadn't settled on the move I wanted to make, so I didn't "escalate" that sale (When in doubt,...)

Not sold on Dunleavy, but the other likely option (needs to be a guard) was Larry Hughes, who costs a little more, and is also no sure thing.

Holding Morrow for tonight, then moving him to Gallinari tomorrow.

Dr D, my thoughts and prayers are with you, Bob and your families during this stressful time.

$4ltr - guards look pretty tough right now in the sub $3 mil category. Two thoughts, the Ind schedule is decent for quite some time so jump in with the thought that he could hit 40% and you still make some $. The other thought is use 2 trades since you have 4 trades and only Boozer and Curry that seem to be sells sooner than later assuming you can find another G and C combo you like for that $

I think with the reduced mins and 29% ownership... and the fact the two of Indy's next four games are AT San Antonio and AT Boston... I would be afraid of buying Dunleavy today.

I am strong HOLD with him... no need to panic sell... just not a buyer

Aaron Brooks?

Jennings just seems so short term. I'm not so sure I'd be concerned about the reduction in Dunleavy's minutes

I like the Jennings pick!! Did that on a different team myself.... I am thinking of him as a long term commitment... 12/29 starts a 3 in 10... suffer thru that stretch -- his schedule gets nice... 30 TSNP/gm for a $3.5M price.... 36 games in the next 74 days -- only team with more games would be Miami...... hmmmm...

Respectfully, I just don't get the Dunleavy love. He's just come back from injury and the team is in uber-flux. If they can't figger out to just send Hibbert out there for 30+ minutes a night then I don't have a great deal of confidence in O'Brien. I understand D-leav is cheap with flex and a good sched, But what has he actually done? Where's the 40's? Are you really gonna keep him through the back end of the schedule? Prolly not.

If you want a consistent G/F who's cheap and producing try...CDR! on next Wed

Spencer Hawes is once again out of the starting lineup making Omri Casspi the likely starter for the Kings Friday night against the Timberwolves.
Casspi took full advantage of his first career start Wednesday night posting an impressive 22 points as well as contributing in nearly every category. Nab Casspi if he's still available in your league.

Man, I hurt the team tonight. Didn't even break 300 with 9 going. Landry's loss of teeth didn't help, but Durant's price is looking high for what he's done the past few games.

Thanks Rob. I've tried to be patient, but I have had my share of blunders. Holding CDR through his flu was a good move, but holding Corey Brewer through his gap was a disaster...

Jason Thompson has been my personal demon so far this season. Both times I bought him, he immediatly went into the tank. I sold him off again last week just to give his holders a competitive advantage.

CBG has been my mentor and I'm trying to learn the RV game from guys like you, Blooki and The Senator. This GMD stuff is invaluable. Its great to get everyone's input. Although I did miss this Dunleavy train, I'm not too disappointed. I think I'm gonna make a better trade in the next few days.

I already traded him for Casspi. Landry's near-enough to his sell point that he'll do nothing but lose money now.

Nothin' wrong with Frye, but I need to clear cap space so I'm goin' low. Casspi has as many games as Frye over the next 3+ weeks and if Westphal is serious about him, I think his production could be near Frye's. There's also ownership level and a possible G/F flex in the offing to consider. He can't lose me money, but he probably won't make a whole heck of alot either.

Frye will make a good amount of scratch over the next 3 or 4 days but he'll probably bleed most of that off before the 4,5 comes.

Good luck. BTW, very impressed MFL, you're doin' great! Peace

My ONLY problem with Casspi.... is one of my golden rules is never buy three guys from one team... no matter how good that third guy looks going on, when I have been there I have always had a difficult time getting the sells right.

Today is a crazy day as I can't really figure out any decent transitions to any of the guys I want. That seems to be a theme all year. Most likely burning thru 3 trades as I try to protect resources and prepare for 12/30. I have made a trade each of the last two days only to reverse the decision at the last minute so I am not ready to commit to anything but I think today is the day I make the trades I made the last two days and hold on to them.

Most of my issues center around adding Paul on 12/29. I need to make sure moves now don't come back to haunt that situation later without completely throwing away pts and games along the way too.

Ugh.

FWIW - on this team, I made three trades today.

Boozer/Lopez/Landry => Gasol/Nash/Casspi

I think Landry is toast from a price standpoint. He'll take a hit today whether he plays or not. Then he has two days off. Unless he does play and puts up a big number, I don't see how he won't continue to bleed (probably an unfortunate analogy in his case). I considered moving him to Fyre, but decided to go the the lower priced and lower owned Casspi.

Camby will turn into Duncan on Wednesday, and Nash will turn into Paul on 12/29, although I might have other tweaking to do in the meantime.

Feeling left out without Gasol.... Really have no dry schedules or injuries to deal with on this team... Just Low RV and poor point performance.

Could do something or a sell high by low theory and move a Durant/Love to Nash/Gasol??

Have tried a thousand ways to make a decent out from Boozer today or tomorrow
best I can do with the rest of my moves after refresh is wait until after Monday.
I suppose I'll lose at least 350 before then.

Here's my plan...Boozer -> Hayward
Love/Deng -> Beasley/Wade at refresh
so many playing short week next I thought I'd get into Heat early with crazy sked upcoming

If there's better to be done with Boozer/Deng/Love...I'd love to hear it
I've spent the better opart of two days staring at this s**t

HTG - I think you're working too hard.

First, I'd be inclined to hold Love. I know he has a 1-in-5 next week, but one of those days is an off day for everyone (and therefore no price change that day), so there will only be one repricing during that first 2-day period. For his price and consistent production, I would not plan to sell.

That leaves Boozer and Deng. I don't think Deng is heavily enough owned to sweat an early exit, and with 3 games in the next 4 days, why move now? Especially if one of the pickups is Haywood?

So, I'd move Boozer to Nash today, and then move Deng to someone on 12/23 - maybe Beasley, or maybe someone even cheaper (Landry, perhaps?). Nash can eventually be moved to Paul, even if you need to cheapen up somewhere else just a bit. You should have plenty of available trades by then.

I agree about Landry's value - gonna drop regardless of whether he plays or not. My RV sucks bad enough without taking another hit. Wanted to save these two trades, but it ain't gonna happen. Anyone else think about Felton (4.56)? CHA's upcoming sched looks good starting on 12/26 and ownership is at zero. Haywood has a 1 in 6 after the game on the 29th. Bayless for POR could be finding his game, but one game isn't enough to jump.

I know its a dangerous sentiment, but I'm planning on holding Love. He does have alotta money to lose, but almost anyone you trade him for has no schedule advantage and is a far inferior player.

I was afraid Love's buy-up had made him a must-sell, but the way he's playing, it really doesn't make any sense to trade him. I can look at Beasley, but seriously Love could outscore him even with the schedule disadvantage.

You are right about Love on both accounts. His big ownership for little $ gain was a negative but his production has been awesome. A lateral move in the 4-6 mil area projects to be a negative short term for just about anyone. That is what can make this game maddening at time.

As one who does not have Love, I was hoping that next week might provide a good opportunity to buy in. Maybe it still will. But I'm now thinking that he won't sustain a big hit.

I might be wrong about that, however. Sometimes it doesn't take much to start an avalanche. But the lack of a repricing on 12/24 will help preserve value.

I see that I misinterpreted some of your comments. I'm blaming the red wine!

I really don't see any value in Haywood. I'd take him out of the equation. I've also seen him pop up in some of my "sartible-ing", but that just seems like a silly idea.

As to Wade, I was also thinking about him for next week, but he seems to be dinged up lately, and he's not putting up numbers that make him a must-have - at least, not yet. No reason to force a guy onto your roster at that price who puts up 40-ish per game for a 3-game week. He may still develop into a must-have, but I'm not inclined to force it now. But it is a viable approach, if that's what you want to do. However, whatever you gain by getting into Wade on the cheap side, you lose by holding Boozer for too long.

Meanwhile, I don't see LeBron dovetailing well to Paul. I'd try to see if you can sensibly transition from Boozer into Paul, using someone like Nash, Rondo, or Duncan in transition. There may be other routes as well.

[106] true, but once you need his low price (to afford Paul), his schedule turns to 1-in-6. Effectively, I think you would have been swapping Love for Haywood. What's the point?

Having said that, you are ahead of me in the standings, so there is no demonstrable reason to presume I have a clue.

Everyone has to play their team their own way but I would caution you about taking a "stand" in December. I moved Durant, Love and Ariza yesterday and it was a very hard choice to make because those guys have been solid. My 3 trades projected to produce far less than the 40 pts per trade I would hope for per trade but the money gained/saved now will payoff over the next 3 months

Tomorrow morning after the new standing are posted in this thread, I'm gonna put my roster up and ask (beg) for some ideas. Gotta hope at this point that I won't lose too much the next few days.

M4L,
Went Durant to Paul to day FOR THE MONEY!! I am thinking after Paul's performance today that I may regret Durant's 4 games vs. Paul's 3.

You are playing great! Keep it UP. You say that you "hit a wall last year." Don't let "hitting a wall" cost you a season! PLAY THROUGH the wall! Everyone has rough weeks... This is a marathon not a sprint. My best team (so far!) this year got hit with Larry Hughes and Karl Landry this week... Save up the trades so you can deal with that and PLAY through IT!

I STILL need to learn when to make better decisions about when I play for money and when I play for points! I tend to play for points too early and get stuck with low RV.

Learn from someone other than me!

My best team traded Brook Lopez to Pau Gasol yesterday. I think that was a fabulous move!

Buying Lopez on December 2 was a fabulous move, made even better transitioning into Pau. I would like to tell you that when I bought him on December 2 that I was thinking about "transitioning" into Pau who I believe was fresh off the DL at the time. Not what happened for me....

Make your plans... Don't get set on them... Continue to plan and change your plans.... HAVE FUN DOING IT! So then you spend time adjusting your plans regular...

Here's my plan this week thru 12/29 refresh.

Evans - hold
Ariza - 12/23 > L Williams or 12/27 > ?
Durant - move to Nash today? 12/29 > Paul
Jennings - hold
James - hold
Thompson - hold
Hansbrough - hold
Gasol - 12/29 > Paul
D Lee - 12/23 > Duncan
Przybilla - hold

3.71 in the bank and I know I should fit Duncan and Paul in there.

Durant to Nash will only net you 350K at the most and won't get you an extra game unless you move that slot to Paul. I wouldn't project Nash's per game to any more than Durant in spite of his lameness the last three. Kinda sucks to do Durant to Nash today, seeing as how you coulda done it yesterday and got 220K. Kinda seems like you should save the trade now.

Is Wade in your plan, could he come from Durant or Gasol?

Personally, I'm holding Gasol long-term and going Durant to Wade. I'm also planning on doing the unpopular (apparently) move of getting Paul from LeBron, his natural trade partner. Don't feel compelled to get in there early.

You can go high or low with Ariza. Personally, I'm looking to go low (CDR if he's healthy) and spend the excess money barbelling my team.

Good luck. Peace

$ for later

Ii think you must first solve your ?'s above. I say that because of this:

If you say barring injury you will use Durant for Paul then your situatuion is this - 4 Durant games and any loss he has $ wise + a saved trade VS 5 Nash, his gains and 1 trade. The unkown is what you will get for pts. For money you can assume you will come out ahead for Nash and you can guesstimate Nash gains to Durant loss.

Durant will have to go at some point Gasol may or may not but he most likely wont be sold prior to the 30th making him the safer hold.

How does selling Lee for Duncan free up a F spot?

Just curious...

BTW lee has 42.5 now, halfway third.

Well, the reason to trade Lee for Duncan, apart from the fact that Duncan will make money, is a two game advantage of a better player. No reason to sell Lee, but if he's your way into Duncan then ya might have to. I aint gonna be Duncanless while everyone else has him...

153 - had more to post, but deleted it by mistake. Have another trade that'll work with the Duncan deal.

Przybilla just changed my priority. Beasley or Haywood look like the only good ones, but J Howard for 500k could free up mucho cash. I'll have approx. 5.8 mil to spend at any position.

Very poor TP for me. Having Durant and no Gasol was biggest problem. Heavy schedule for me today so if I end up back here I'll make up for a bad day yesterday.

Camby/Dunleavy=>Duncan/Beasley today. With any luck, I won't need to trade again until Chris Paul day (12/29).

Just went Przybilla > Beasley.

I also (with any luck) won't have any other trades until 12/29/09. Hope the rest of teams' patellas hold up...

Just 1 trade of Dunleavey to a guard undecided upon then like others hoping to enjoy watching games like Kobe VS Lebron with no trades until 12/29 when Nash to Paul.

Ariza & Hans - leaning against this but...

Trade away Ariza after tonight if throws up another stinker? (Ownership dangerously high)

Is it extremely inefficient to trade Hans right now to D Wright? Or better to hold him thru 1/5 or later?

I have 4 trades and RV of 62.79 (a little low). Both would make me more cash, but is it wasting trades? Would give me approx. 6.4 mil to use on Ariza's replacement.

Good to be back with a team that's a bit less shambolic. Already went Dunleavy ---> Beasley. Holding Durant and Casspi, but nervous about both.

Do we have an official team position on Juwon Howard (Mich, '94)?

171 - I'll second that question. I just penciled in Hans > D Wright, but if Howard is the better move, I'm game.

I have a choice as well-though mine must be a guard
I could have Wright but went with Watson in Indy
what do we think of that

Only reason I passed on Watson today was because he doesn't play until Saturday.
