Saw this article today and got to thinking:
"What 'realistic' 12 man roster could you put together from the available free agents, minus the 'cream of the crop' guys (James, Wade, Bosh)."
I don't count Amare and Joe Johnson as cream, unlike the article.
By realistic, I mean under the cap or close. So, the deal is make a guestimate on what the player should go for in the market. Be realistic...you can't list Boozer for $5M...
List the player, the position and the cost.
Maybe list the 'style of play' or who your head coach would be (any). Just kind of hashing this out.
And yeah...I'm jonesing for hoops. |

I think its right around 58 million, but for us, lets say 65 million.
Forgot to add these guys back in:
Power Forward Amar'e Stoudemire
Shooting Guard Joe Johnson
Re: [4 - CJ], Hard for me seeing that happening from the 'big guns', too much ego with all these guys. Even Bosh who is playing a 'second fiddle' card still is rumored to wanting to be 'the man' on his team. And despite all the 'Meet me in Miami' rumbling going around, who *really* thinks uber-alphas James and Wade are ever going to be able to play together for a full 82 game slate?

CJ -
The addition of Paul Pierce to the free agent pool won't affect this thread for RSF asked to make the BEST team.

Dang...I wanted to kinda wait to see how much some of the early signers came in at.
Rudy Gay at a reported 16M per. WOW! I'd have been more in line with Pancho Villa's estimate, maybe a bit more at 11 million.
BTW, Pancho, thats a fine looking roster. Centers are a little light, but not much out there to work with.

Rudy Gay is a nice player. Is he a max player? C'mon. There's probably only about 6 or 7 players in the league who really deserve max contracts, and Gay is probably in the mid 20s as far as overall NBA ranking. How many guys can truly take over a game on a consistent basis? Lebron, Kobe, Howard, Wade, maybe Nowitzki, Nash, Durrant and Paul(when healthy). I don't even put Bosh in that elite group who's on the about the same scale as Pau Gasol.

I agree with that. Other guys that can take a game over in SA, Chi, POR, but to your point Gay is not near all of them.

Looks like Miami tried to play this game but missed the part about leaving out James, Wade and Bosh!

RSF #5 You may still be right in the end...we will have to see how things go because I think if Miami does not win MANY games then those egos you mention will surface. If they dominate and win 60 games....probably not right away huh?
