Greetings all.

The G20 hoops season needs to get underway. I forgot that Ref was out and I was in as Commish, so I need to get my ass moving.

First order of business: ROLL CALL We already have one confirmed departure this year in Slackjawed Yokel. If all managers would please be so kind as to confirm your participation in this season, I would appreciate it.

More to come soon.

I am in.

The 6th spot will be decided between Odom, Artest, Garnett and Allen. If I had to choose today, it'd be Odom. Send me some offers if you are interested!

Looks like there are some vacancies still to fill. I have volunteered to step aside and let Ref have his old team back. He seems on he fence, maybe more off than on. I'd take one of the abandoned teams.

Would prefer to get first choice of available teams as a returning manager, if Ref comes back

I'm actually considering it. The catch is that I'm on vacation for most of next week and am unsure about access at this point.

What's really odd is that since I created the site, apparently I can't be removed and have no idea of being able to change teams even if I wanted. Luckily we were able to co-own the team to get Dave in last season.

I've got an email out to a member of my local fantasy baseball team. He was expressing serious interest in joining a keeper basketball league of this style.

At least during baseball season, he thinks "trade" day and night.

I'm still debating it. I feel like I continue to run as fast as I can into a brick wall and get nowhere.

This team is no better than where it was when I inherited it. I feel like I am just wasting everyone's time by continually finishing in last place. Its just not fun or enjoyable running a crap team year in and year out... I've only done one thing right in my 3 years at the helm and that was drafting Tyreke Evans...which was the obvious pick. lol.

I'll let you know in a couple days to where I stand.

Planning to Keep:

Chauncey Billups
Darren Collison
Marc Gasol

Want to keep and can't squeeze all in:

Mo Williams
Raymond Felton
Marcus Thornton
Rashard Lewis
Vince Carter
Brendan Haywood

Like to keep, no way I can:

Chase Budinger
Bill Walker

slizz [29] - Just keep hanging in there. My world took a turn for the worse when I decided to re-build my team around Oden a couple years ago. That's certainly not working out.

Then last year in round 1, I wavered hard back and forth between Johnny Flynn and Stephen Curry. Unfortunately, I went with Flynn. But I'm planning on taking Wall this season, so I'm hoping I can turn it around.

Keepers
Tyreke Evans, G, SAC
Tony Parker, G, SAS
Luol Deng, SF, CHI

So...can we just keep 3 instead :)?

I'm seriously looking at Wilson Chandler & Thaddeus Young as keepers b/c the rest of my guys STINK!

So I definitely need to do some 2 for 1's. All offers will be considered.

Lets get this straightened out today. If its only the one team, its easy. Ref goes back to his old team and Dave takes over RFS and we are done. If there is a second team - we've got the other 2 candidates.

Everyone start posting your leftovers if you want to cash some of them in -- folks like Slizz and myself only have 3 keepers right now and are looking to buy. Mike D is the whole market right now. You don't want him to monopolize things, do you?! :)

Carlos Delfino
Jarrett Jack
Kelenna Azubuike
Kenyon Martin
Shawn Marion

can be had. either for a draft pick upgrade or in a package for 1 better keeper. all of these players have their question marks and may contribute more or less compared to last year. tough to figure it out at this stage of the season.

Dave R just informed me that the season starts on 10/26. If this league is going to happen it needs to get going quickly. I am out of pocket from 19-24 most likely. Might have limited access via phone. Today is the 15th. What still needs to be done...

1. Fill teams and run lottery
2. Announce Keeper date
3. Announce draft date and run draft
4. Finish and get waivers started before first game

I'm in a real pickle for trying to figure out keepers. I have 7 very legit keepers so looking to deal 1.

Kobe
Bosh
Jennings
JSmith
Jamison
Ibaka
Crawford

Probably most likely to deal Jamison, Crawford, Bosh, or Kobe. That doesn't mean Kobe or Bosh will be cheap. All are available though.

We have a possible return of Ref. His history gives him first choice. If so, he would get his old team back.

Dave R, having capably stepped in for Ref last year, and graciously volunteered to give it back this year if he wants to return, is being deemed by me to have 1st choice of teams if Ref comes back. If not, he keeps his same team.

If Ref is back, that leaves 2 teams and Tosh's friend, jseth and CJ. We would need to lottery them off. This lottery would not only be for which 2 of the 3 would be invited, but in which order they would get to choose their new franchise.

If Ref is not back, then those 3 who have volunteered or been nominated have the teams, and we will lottery off the order in which these teams can choose their franchises.

Guru, or any other volunteer, please randomly run a lottery for the 3 prospective members:

jseth333
Tosh's friend
CJ

By then, we'll hear from Ref a firm yea or nay as to whether he is back and we will get this rolling.

Keeper Deadline is Tuesday October 19th at 12:00pm (noon) ET

Draft will start Wednesday October 20th at 9:00am ET

I guess the first order of business is for Ref to declare his intentions. I can't pick keepers if I don't know what team I'm going to have and the other managers can't pick teams until I do.

If Ref is back I'll takes rfs's team

I don't think we have run our regular draft lottery, which determines the draft order for the first round of our draft. I'll set that up and run it this afternoon.

Hello everyone. My name is Michael, and I believe I'm taking over one of the teams in your league this year. Some of you may know me as "Tosh's friend". Since "Tosh" has left computer land for the weekend, I'd appreciate a little help getting started. He obviously sent me a link to this thread but I accidently deleted access to the league homepage. If someone could e-mail me at michaelpatrickrichards@gmail.com with a link and any other useful information I'd really appreciate it. I read in post #57 that I won the lottery to enter the league, so please let me know how and when I can claim a team. "Tosh" gave me a quick overview of the rules, so I'm really looking for anything else relevant to getting started. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Guru - YES, we need to run the first round lottery. We have two ties that need to be settled first for 10th place and 13th place.

Uh...I'm not all that 'smoozie' with just handing teams around. Yeah, the league might need to kiss ass to get some players in, but if you are coming in after leaving, you are just another 'newbie'...newbie+ if you prefer. I'd just assume random team assignment for anyone coming in. Maybe its just me.

I just sent species, dave r and tosh an email, but it appears that tosh and species are away for awhile. So I'm going to post the gist of the email here...

I can come back, but am not sure how I am going to draft. Might have to work with me somewhat as I'm on vacation form the 19-24th. Will have my blackberry so might be somewhat accessible at times, but it could get rough.

1. We did this exact thing in baseball when Code Cracker had a work issue and had to step aside one season and Cards took over and then he returned the following season and Cards took another team.
2. Since I set up this league, it is actually impossible to remove me from this league or this team. I will always have to at least co-own this team and get all the emails etc. same as dave r or whoever owns it.

So let me know what you want to do and if it is possible to work with me on the draft. I might even try and recruit someone to assist me with that. If someone doesn't approve of this, I'm ok with not being in the league at all.

So I am going to assume that I'm back in with my original team, unless you tell me differently. I don't have the info on keepers or draft or how we are even drafting. I haven't even looked at the team (except to see if there was a way I could remove myself from that team) and haven't even looked at fantasy basketball since the end of 08-09 season. So I have a lot of catchup time--which normally wouldn't matter if I wasn't on the road.

I can appreciate your point of view on the claiming of teams RecycledSpinalFluid. I'm brand new to the league so I don't want to step on a veteran's shoes here. As far as I can tell, the process used to determine who gets their choice of teams was fair. I know that means less coming from the winner of the "new manager" lottery but my point of view would be the same had I finished last. I don't think any of the new managers have an advantage, seeing as though we only have three of twenty rosters to choose from. I haven't had the chance to view other rosters but I can all but promise you I'd rather have someone else's team, rather than the three available. All that being said, I'll be happy to follow whatever ruling the commish decides is appropriate. I hope this matter gets settled quickly, so I can begin tinkering with whatever roster I have and maybe get a trade or two in before the draft. Good luck everyone and thanks for letting me join your league.

Preparing to hold the draft lottery.

The spreadsheet with the lotto-number-lookup is here:

Audit copies of the lottery draws will be emailed to Species and Tosh. Since they are both away at the moment, I'll go ahead and announce the the results as they are generated.

OK, so sounds like Ref is back. I guess if RSF ( or anyone )has a problem with my taking first crack at an available team, as a " returning manager ", fine.
I'll take whatever team I end up with.

OK I am of to kids sports for the next few hrs but will be back tonight and will have tomorrow to stud things. Species directed me to the thread for the keeper info which I had missed:

Keeper Deadline is Tuesday October 19th at 12:00pm (noon) ET. Draft will start Wednesday October 20th at 9:00am ET

I will try to set thing sup the best I can, but really want to find someone who I can share my general team makeup and work with me on the draft so it doesn't slow the thing down.

I think in this case Ref HAS to take his old team back because of the commish piece. A unique situation. He's locked into it.

Normally I'd say Ref should not get his old team back unless Dave R wanted to give it up. And then throw Dave in the new manager mix. But Dave could keep his team since for a season (or more) it was his.

When I joined, I took rfs's team. When he returned a year or two later, he took someone else's team. I don't think I was asked by rfs or anyone else to "give" my team up. I don't really think I would have wanted to, but I guess that depends how good the open teams were.

Let meathead in this thing so he can deal.......especially with me. Lol. (post 45!)

That's a big part of it, along with understanding the unique situation Ref was in last year. With Dave R's willingness to step aside, I am fine with it.

I appreciate RSF's perspective and agree that there is a certain pinch of returning manager favoritism involved. It's simply a matter of loyalty in my eyes and the rationale behind my decision. These are teams being given up so it's not as if Dave's going to be contending this year because of a beneficial ruling by me. RSF - if you feel that strongly about it, please appeal to the masses and request a vote.

Meatwads needs to choose between slackjawed yokel's and barilko6's teams in post 52. Once he's chosen, we can get their ESPN logins and get them their teams.

Any chance I can get the co-owner taken off my team? I also wanted to change my team name and my picture, etc. Can the commish give me access needed to do these things?

Still looking to make a last minute deal before the keeper deadline. I'm looking for as many as 2 keepers I like better than Blair or Barbosa and I'm willing to trade draft picks for them.

Meatwads - I removed the other owner. You are now the man.

As to the permissions, there is no Commish control over that. On my team, there is a 'team setting' link under my team picture, that allows me to make changes.

For anyone who has a stud but needs depth. I could possible make a 2 for 1 or possibly even a 3 for 1 deal. I honestly have no idea who will be my 5th and 6th keeper at this point. Have two extra keepers who will be snagged in the first if I drop them. Getting some inquiries for draft picks, but if you could gain an extra keeper or two w/o having to give up a pick, that could help you. I would obviously like to have a better keeper that fills a need better--otherwise I'll settle for a draft pick if it's high enough.

Ideally I'm trying to keep Rondo, Mayo and Aldridge. The other players are available but I'm more than willing to discuss trading draft picks to any team that has more than 6 potential keepers. I'm looking for 2 or 3 keepers so if I can't get that done in one deal I need multiple trade partners. I'll be on g-mail until the keeper deadline...

Tony Parker, G, SAS
Luol Deng, F, CHI
Vince Carter, G/F, ORL

Pending/Questionable
Jason Thompson, F/C, SAC
Thaddeus Young, F, PHI
Wilson Chandler, F, NYK

Now the #1 Pick and Tyreke are for sale...but as I was telling BMD and Ref, I would like some tier 3/4 keepers in return rather than guys to fill depth like VC. John Wall and Tyreke are franchise cornerstones so if you are going to move for those two, I would want two guys along the level of Luol Deng in return...solid keepers (not just excess fat), not superstars, but nevertheless solid.

I was just updating anyone who cares of my current roster. I've seen a handful of people doing it earlier in this thread so my mistake. Do I actually need to announce my keepers on the other thread or can i just do it at ESPN? If I need to post on the other thread I need someone to tell me how to get there.

If anyone wants a PG, I'm not keeping Augustin. Would just need a small pick upgrade - such as a third for a fourth or a 4th for a sixth. Not an uberstud by any means but Livingston is injured again.

Can someone help with something? I'm hearing that the trade deadline has already passed even though keepers aren't due for 3 hours. I tried sending a trade offer on ESPN a couple minutes ago and it went through. Can someone confirm or deny that that the deadline to deal is gone? If it is over, where do I find the information that says this. Help!!

Posting this for Species, from an email:

I can't post from work and don't want to type all of this in my phone. If someone could post the text below into a post in our discussion thread, I'd appreciate it.
=================================
I received a request prior to the Noon deadline wondering if we could extend the deadling to 5:00pm, as it states on the ESPN site. That manager was confused by the conflicting information and is still seeking to complete a trade.

I never set the 5:00 deadline on ESPN to be honest.......and once I set the Noon deadline in this thread I tried to find a place to change the deadline on ESPN to avoid this kind of confusion but failed to find the place to change it.

I came up with the Noon deadline out of thin air.....there was no rhyme or reason to it outside of creating a sense of urgency due to my tardiness in getting this league going (and I hope everyone will accept my apologies for that).

I am indifferent towards this request and would like to hear from any of you who have an opinion. On one hand, perhaps managers cut deals late last night because they knew they only had until Noon today....so instead of holding out for one deal, they cut the best deal they could last night so they made sure to get something done.

On the other hand, the conflicting information could have confused some managers who thought they had more time.....and I can easily understand this.

That said, typically the deadlines posted in this thread take precedent. Thus, barring several opinions that say "Yeah, why not? Let 'em trade....no biggie", my initial judgment would be to say "Sorry man.....we have to have a deadline somewhere".....even though personally I have no objection......it's just that my opinion is not strong enough to consider a dictator-like edict like I did in giving Dave R first choice of teams.

Please post your thoughts ASAP.

Full disclosure, I wrote back to Meatwads agreeing to a deal and sending it over to him this morning. He wrote back after noon stating he was under the impression based on the ESPN site that he had til 5 PM to accept so by the time he checked in I had to withdraw and let him know it was too late.

Because I was waiting on him I passed on a few other offers to get a legit 6th keeper so now I'm kind of screwed keeping an injured guy and he missed out on a draft pick trade he had planned. So obviously we'd both like to get the deal done still.

I emailed Tosh and Species this morning letting them know I couldn't find him but we had agreed in principle but was searching for him to confirm on the ESPN site. Got tied up at work and didn't realize the deadline passed til i saw his respone too late.

FYI - On Sunday, I changed the deadline at the ESPN site to 5pm today, even though I knew that our Keeper Thread said Noon.

I did it this way, because we really have no idea what happens at ESPN when that deadline hits ... do the keepers auto-process or not?

And what happens if a manager(s) have not set keepers at ESPN as requested? Do they all just disappear?

I'd prefer to just stick with the Noon deadline as stated in the Keeper thread ... and wait two more hours to see what happens at ESPN.

Which certainly means that everyone needs to select their keepers at ESPN post-haste. (There are still three teams that have not selected their keepers.)

I have been trying to follow this league as closely as possible and I missed where it said 12:00 PM ET deadline. I've since found it, but I can clearly see how people (especially new) could be confused. I started talking a bunch of trades yesterday, but not because I thought the deadline was approaching. In my mind I was giving myself a day to make deals, and half a day to finish any deals that couldn't get finalized last night. I'm still trying to get everything figured out and the noon ET deadline was something that slipped through the cracks for me. As a new member I'd request that we get an extension to complete the trade we have on the table. I understand if this request isn't acceptable but I hope someone understands how difficult it is to join a league right before it starts and know everything, without hands on help from a veteran. I'd appreciate someone in power giving my request a thought. Thanks.

I have no problems with the trade going through. I might feel a bit different if it was two long time managers, but that isn't the case.

In the future, it doesn't hurt to post the trade in a thread to show that it was agreed to in principle prior to the deadline, by either party. Plus ESPN doesn't seem to include the draft picks in the automated e-mail so while I've seen some trades that look odd, I've assumed that there are draft picks are involved.

Lets just move on, its fine. I don't feel like re-doing my keepers or going back on ESPN. I don't like the karma of having to get special treatment or opening a can of worms. Its just my bad luck that the deadline Meatwads saw was on ESPN and it happened to be different and he didn't know otherwise.

We should all know there are certain disadvantages to coming in as a new player. One of them is that nobody is in a big hurry to catch you up to speed, because they're your competition. I was never told that this thread overpowered anything on our league page. I was under the impression this is a place to discuss potential keepers and figure out who's in the league, things like that. I don't think a one line sentence randomly thrown in amongst hundreds of comments is good enough. As a new player, how am I even supposed to know who is in charge and who's posts have real meaning when I'm under the impression this thread is nothing more than a discussion site? People in this league need to be very well informed of CRITICAL deadlines, and this thread doesn't do that. As a new manager, if nobody tells me directly that there is a big deadline I'm probably going to miss it, even though I'm putting in hours a day trying to compete with everyone and learn rules. I'm not the type of person that's looking for handouts or trying to take advantage of the system. I'm just a new member who clearly sees something is wrong with the way things are done in my opinion. Two managers (at least) are going to have worse teams because of this. Had I been correctly informed the trade between myself and GO would have been completed well before the quietly imposed deadline. I wouldn't have stayed up late talking deals, only to wake up and find that I should have been up at 6 AM PT working on finalizing. I'm asking for you guys to reconsider. I do not think it's in good taste to upset multiple managers over a technicality. None of this may change the ruling but maybe it will get some people to reconsider how things are done.

This is only my third year in this one but I feel like we have some pretty reliable good-faith type managers in this league....and if things went down like GO and Meatwads said they did, I think the fairest/best solution is to allow the trade. I feel like we can trust each other in this group. Hopefully our new players will soon learn what a great league this is and we'll help them to feel welcome as well.

I agree also with what Frick said, and in a perfect world, GO should have known to post the trade in this thread if it was finalized, separate from the ESPN trade mechanics, though of course Meatwads would have no way to have known that. Having said that, however, this year has felt much more helter skelter than in past years and I think it has led to some obvious confusion and some rushed situations with last minute team acquisitions....with new managers having no way to fully understand or comply with letter of the law situations that are based on league history which they don't have. Even returning guys like me can't recall some league specifics, and we really didn't have our usual "here's how we do things" exhaustive starter posts which leagues on these forums have historically done such a good job with. Of course, I don't know how clear my glasses are b/c I'm freaked out that the draft is starting and I'm completely unprepared and I just found out last night that it was starting tomorrow morning.

So....If it's still a discussible issue, I 'vote' for putting that trade through, fixing errant keeper lists and anything else to try to give everyone some grace and the benefit of the doubt as we try to make this fun for all and not too 'ouchy' in feet to the fire mode. Just my .02

PR spells it out pretty well. That's a convincing argument FOR allowing this trade. To be fair, if I allow that one, I have to allow others a chance.

Barring some vehement arguments against, I'll give it until midnight tonight to still make a trade.

Can anyone let me know when and where the draft is taking place tomorrow morning? I've heard a few different things but haven't been given a definite answer. Also any other information, such as how long between picks and if we can pre-rank players before the draft, etc. would be nice.

As far as the previous posts about "the trade", I appreciate Frick and Pacers Rule stepping up for the new guy. I agree fully with what was said by them, and not just because I'm in the middle of the discussion. According to the league rules, it's too late to make the deal. Some times doing what's right involves bending a rule. I believe this is one of those times. This situatuon can be avoided in the future, so there's no reason to think it will set some sort of rule bending spree. Thanks for letting me state my case. Good luck in the draft tomorrow.

Kafenatid did work well last year - but a lot of preparatory setup is needed. I did the set up work last year, as I recall - but I would not be available to do it until Thursday (or at least, late Wednesday evening. )

We would also need to get everyone registered for the draft before any of the setup (inputting keepers and trades) can be started.

If Kafenatid is to be used, it might be better to start the draft here anyway, and then migrate to kafenatid once the setup work is done.

WooHoo!

I am in a spot that has WiFi! With that being said, I still won't have much access. CJ needs some info. I have not been given the kaf info. CJ emailed me that he didn't have access to something--but a little confused as to what that was.

I had a deal on the table that a manager was going to take if his first choice wasn't available. I have no idea if that deal went down or not.

I skimmed this thread and Meatwads had a good post aboutn not being informed enough. I am not sure what that was in regards as I literally have maybe 5-10 mins of online time right now (hit me up via email to get me quicker). Species has had some family issues, but normally these leagues are chalked full of info and everyone knows what is up well in advance and if they don't--it is on them. This has been the poorest prepared league because of that. Obviously, I would help if I had the time. We must do a better job moving forward. Tosh has also been very busy. Please send an email out with updates on what is going on so I (and others) can stay up to speed.
