The Jeepers Keepers hoops league, now heading into its 8th season on Yahoo, is looking for a new owner.
we lost two coming into this season, and have replaced one. which owner gets which team will be decided via coin flip, but both have fairly solidly keepers and could be contenders with a good draft.
Jeepers Keepers 2010-11 keeper league thread
chime in over here, or over there, or email me if interested. we're looking to get moving on this pretty quick, and the live draft is the night before the season starts. |

Hey tree- if you are still looking I will come back and take my team back and the other manager can take the other team. I didnt think I would have the time to put in the necessary time, but another league I was going to do has folded so I can do it. Let me know. wiggs

I just remembered I have a basketball game that night, so there's a good chance I wouldn't be home (and therefore not be able to draft) before 9:45pm. I've emailed my basketball league manager and will hopefully hear back about the exact schedule shortly.

wow, tree comes from behind strong--makes up 5 spots in the last couple of weeks--to take a slim lead on the last day.
Nice battle guys. I think tree has the edge since he can play every position this last day and have them count, but it'll still be quite close.

Will someone knock me off the podium for the first time in 8 seasons? Last year's 3rd was my first non 1st/2nd since 2003. Bring it!
I propose we bump that trade deadline date back to the last available date. The March 8th date would be like halfway into the season with the adjusted timeframe.
Anyone looking for some H2H hoops competition I've got a $20 H2H style league with a couple spots now open.

Good idea on moving the trade deadline.
It'll be interesting how the shorter season makes for changes in the fantasy side. Because of fewer off days, we'll have to be careful not to miss days ourselves. And perhaps some players who might start breaking down in the stretch drive will be fresher this season.

i'll move the trade deadline. good idea.
i also have a live draft date, mostly because i don't want to have to manually input everything. :)
may try and move it up to Sunday evening (from it's current Tuesday), but the only spots available were 5 pm and 10 pm central. i felt the 10 pm was too late for east coasters, and i don't know how people feel about drafting during a full compliment of football games going on, hence, not wanting to do it at 5 pm.

Can we just start slow drafting here asap? If we can get through a bunch of rounds we may be able to avoid a live draft. We have 26 days before the first games.

as for starting slow draft - i hate the thought of starting so early, because of potential injuries and such.

Can't argue that although I would say with almost no training camp and guys out of shape if you draft anyone that doesn't get hurt at some point it will be a miracle.

Anyone wanna help me fill in the blanks and remember how the transitions of owners in Season 2, 3, and 4 worked?
Season 3 we added an 11th team DaBomb Season 4 we dropped back to 10 teams, we lost Stuck, Tax, and Rev and added Tosh and Mike V
It looks like Mike V took Rev's team but I can't sort out the rest. Below you'll see my attempt at color coding franchises to show the history of each.

i'm pretty sure my plummet from second to 8th came the season after i traded Dirk. i paid for that for years, but the last two years have been very good to me.
on an aside, i'd like to thank all the owners in this league. we've kept this thing going into our 9th season, and i'm pretty proud of that.

It was an expansion draft with every team protecting 4 players and then I picked 5 from the remaining unprotected players and then everyone else protected their 5th from their own roster.
Not positive why this was done but I think it was because an owner said he was going to leave the league and I was to take over but he decided last minute he was going to stay.

I'm pretty certain this is what happened in Season 4.
Mike V. took Rev's team. I took Taxman's team. Stuck60s only had a couple keeper-type players (Arenas & Pierce), so we contracted his team, thinking that it would balance out the league.
Mike V. took Arenas with pick #1, and won the title his first year.
Species took Pierce with pick #2, and finished in 4th.

If the draft is still going when I leave, the potential is there I will be unable to set an active lineup until 2012.
So whatever we do, hopefully it's done by 12/21.

whatever we do, the last day of the draft really needs to be 12/20. with me leaving on 12/21 for a trip out of town, and Tosh leaving on 12/22, it sets a hard deadline.
Farn is gone on the 17th, and da Bomb is out of the country from the 15th to the 20th. that's six days from now.
this is challenging to work around.
PD has a fairly good idea, but i think the fast past of the draft being from the 15th to the 20th screws the pooch for Bomb.
and again, all the free agent movement kind of messes this up too. i think the star players are the star players, and trades aren't going to make or break what round they're drafted.
it's the secondary players who may move into starting roles.
so part of me wonders if we do a slow draft to start with, and then concludes with a fast draft. but the problem with that is that i travel on 12/21, and Bomb returns on 12/20....sooo, we're back to step one, that's a real head scratcher.

I'm very excited that one of my possible keepers wants to be now known as Danny Stern's Bi#&h'
in all seriousness, all this chaos may force us to do something rash with this league - veterans may refuse to practice, small market owners may have a civil war with big market owners - and so on.
we're in a tough spot. it's a situation that bears watching, but we also need to start our draft soon if we're going to start on time.

So lets just start a slow draft on Kafenatid... because at least with that people away can set pick specific ques.
And then someone can step up an enter players the last day or two before the season starts if Tree is gone.
Does anyone know when free agency craziness starts? has it already? like I don't know if its like football this summer where there is gonna be 4 days of craziness and we can wait til then or if its already underway.

We need to cut this trade wait time down, every year its stuck all these days.
Had we considered same day transactions in this league? I think Yahoo's format works best in Hoops cause the only people frozen after gametime are those active in your starting lineup. And thats not everyone in hoops. You can add any player whether they have played already or not... and you can drop any player on your bench who hasn't been actively used that night.

Yeah--I didn't put Brand into my lineup yesterday, assuming he would be gone and onto GO's team. I would love to cut it down to a one day trade review time (currently at two).

and, there is no way i'm winning this league for a third straight time if i continue to leave plays like Pau Gasol on my bench because i forgot to change the line up.

Tosh, you're giving up on the year already with that trade? You're in 5th place... Plus I think I'd even prefer Marc Gasol now to Horford even if Horford were healthy.

Not giving up the year, but playing from a position of strength while planning for next year. I can easily dedicate one bench slot to an injured keeper.
1. My keeper list is weak. I had Curry (ranked around #10-12), Iggy (ranked mid-30s), and a bunch of players in the 45-60 range. Not very good in a 10-team league. Gasol was #45-50. Horford was ranked #20-25 this year, and I'm hoping for the same next season.
2. With the keepers I entered the season with, I knew I would have a team with a max potential of fourth or fifth place. And since the best player (Curry) will be day-to-day the rest of the season, I don't really have a chance to be competitive.
3. Gasol is playing great so far this season, and might be ranked in the same tier as Horford next year. If so, I've got a similar player, and a 6 round bump for one of my draft picks.
4. If I need a center, I still have Jordan, Mullens, Ibaka, Noah, Harrington, Speights, and Verejao to choose from. So if someone needs a Center, and has an extra PG, please contact me.

One full month after I traded a top-center (M. Gasol) for an injured player (Horford) ... I still have a 53 block lead, and am 2nd in rebounds. Maybe I'll make a play for this year after all, and add some scoring.

it happened because Brandon Rush was an out of nowhere DNP. totally unexpected. i fell on points and rebounds on the last day, and any number of players on my roster - even Steve Novak - would have given me the three-peat.
i thought i did a GREAT job in sneaking up the ladder on three's - i was in 8th place a month ago in that category, but worked my way all the way up.
devestating, but at least it's not real life or there's no money involved. lol
congrats GO - i'll get my championship back next season. ;o)

Yeah, it really came down to a couple easy rebounds you would have. I guess that's the risk of the west coast player too.
I know in football I had a situation similar with a couple final guys going on Monday night which may as well be the 10:30 NBA game.... and just to be a 100% safe I picked up all backups etc in case i needed a couple points and that guy got scratched.
But being a Monday night game I had to plan all that in advance and that move seemed more obvious. Planning for the late game on a healthy guy probably didn't seem like a neccesity.

Looking at my squad, it is a bunch of bubble players. Humphries, Bonner, Korver, Nene, etc.
I'm putting Dwight Howard on the trading block. He'll kill you with his FT%, but he's be cleaning the boards in LA which means continued top production in blocks, rebounds, steals and points. Not sure what I'd want in return, but I'd need a very good keeper-level player at the very least.

since i moved into my apartment, i've had free cable. 100 channels worth. it's not feeding off my landlords and it's not feeding off the neighbors on the other side.
the cable company has twice disconnected it from the pole, and then twice re-connected it.

i think you can pick your own keepers on the Yahoo site. in fact, i'm pretty sure you have to do that by the deadline.
sheesh, i have totally not been paying attention. that being said, the girlfriend is out of the hospital.
i'm keeping an eye on this storm as well. it has potential to completely screw anyone on the east coast. because of that, i'm gonna go ahead and move the draft to Sunday night.
(ok, i just did so, and the earliest time available sunday night is 9:30 central. if that's TOO late for east coasters, tell me)
REMEMBER, INPUT YOUR OWN KEEPERS. YES, YOU CAN DO THAT. DEADLINE IS TOMORROW.

I input 4 of my keepers, but my 5th one is coming via trade. How does that get handled? Also, how are draft pick trades handled in a live draft?
Tree, happy to hear she is doing better!

The team who currently has that player should mark them as a keeper. The commish can then rearrange which team they are on after the keepers process and everyone else is kicked to free agency.

Just talked to Josh... he said, instead... just mark only your keepers as keepers... not anyone you traded away. Josh will address that separately.

Yes, commish has to finalize and approve keepers post keeper deadline so at that point you could add checkmarks to the traded players.
So WG is getting Greg Monroe. Either Tree can make him his "6th keeper" (and WG checks off 4 names)... or Tree can just check his normal 5. Then when Commish is finalizing keepers he can add a check mark next to Monroe's name.
Having a check mark next to your name will carry that player over to the draft setup and not spit them into the free agent draft pool. Now that pool of keepers can be rearranged/traded/reassigned when inputting draft pick trades etc.

even though everyone has selected their keepers, i still have to manually input them??? that doesn't seem to make any sense...

Slight conflict.
last year, Wiggs (now WG) traded his 12th rounder to GO as part of this trade:
Wiggs/12th/Batum for GO/2nd/W.Chandler
this off season, we had this deal:
Perm Dude trades pick 1.1 to WG for pick 12.2 and D. Rose.
obviously, the same team can't trade the same pick twice. i've made the second trade be for pick 11.2 instead of 12.2.
if WG has a problem with this, we'll nullify the deal, but i think he'll be fine with it.
i'll have the traded picks and keepers in a minute. lemme know everything looks kosher.

Man, my squad next season is going to kick ass. I'm somehow going to have to pick 5 keepers from:
Dwight Howard Rajon Rondo Derrick Rose Anderson Verejao Ersan Ilyasova Andrew Bogut Manu Ginobili Arron Afflalo JR Smith
Plus a host of bubble guys: Evan Turner, Gerald Henderson, Vince Carter...
Too bad I've got to suffer through another half a year. My goal is to *not* get the top pick in the draft next year.
But if anyone wants to stash one of these guys for next season, I'd be happy to look for a draft pick upgrade.

I'm looking to move Bynum for a draft pick if anyone has interest. I can keep him so I don't need to accept a low ball offer but if someone has a draft pick they'd like to send my way I'd listen.

Thought I put myself in a pretty good position after my trades, but half the guys I got back are now either hurt (Amare, Kirilenko) or lost their starting role (Collison).

Congrats to Tosh... DaBomb almost won after all that wheeling and dealing. Looks like a few more steals would have made the difference. Kobe's injury probably made a difference there.

Nice job Tosh. Had been tied for 1st for a few days these past couple weeks but you gained that point on me the last day. We can add OJ Mayo to the list in 191, in that he turned into a bum shortly after I traded for him and I didn't play him at all down the stretch (along with Collison).

I haven't finished out of the top 3 in about 7 seasons so this was definitely a new experience for me. But I made what I thought were some good long term keeper investments in exchange for current success. Once I did the deal for Kevin Love that was the way my ship had to sail. But I think I'm set up for another good run.
Also moved the absolutely on fire Carmelo for a future of Anthony Davis who I thought it was important to pair and offset what K-Love does.

nice job Tosh!
this was a tough season for me. three straight years at the top of the pack (falling to second place on the final day of the season last year), to not even remotely contending this season was a bitter pill to swallow.
Injuries devastated my team. Danny Granger's 27 total points has got to be a record for lowest point total in a season by a keeper who actually played during the season.
Of my 5 keepers, only 2 played more than 50 games. I got 5 out of Granger, 50 out of Nash, and 49 out of P. Gasol.
needless to say, there will definitely be some rebuilding for my squad this off season.

Thanks guys. That was a very close final night. Going into the few night games, I trailed 58-57, but had four players hopefully going, and trailed Dilligad (w/ 1 player) by about 25 points. Once I tied it up at 58, I figured it was over. But then KnickFan passed DaBomb in steals ... so I ended up winning 58-57.
I'm still not sure what happened. ** I only had one all-star (Luol Deng). Yahoo rank #65. ** Curry, Conley, Ibaka, and Horford were all good keepers, but Iguodala was not. ** My round 1 (Lin) was useful but not great. Yahoo rank #55. ** Round 2 pick (Bargnani) was useless. ** Round 6-7-8-9-11-12 were all waived by early-December. ** I remember thinking early in the draft that this team was mid-tier again, and that was when I picked Beal & Rivers in rounds 5-6. Planning for the future.
So thanks on taking it easy on me this year. And thanks to KnicksFan for getting those extra 3 steals late last night! I only see four keepers on my roster, so I might be looking come Fall.
Have a great off-season!

Wow. I was not able to play close attention last night. Good thing.
It was a fun/agonizing last couple of weeks, as I was up on games played and needed to decide what categories to chase and what players to use while navigating injuries and player rest. I was making lineup changes right up until the start of games yesterday. Spent 10 minutes deciding between Kirilenko or Tobias Harris (made the right choice, but it didn't matter). Pretty wild how a couple steals here or missed foul shots there decide entire seasons, but that's no different than the real thing.

Tosh - i lost last season, in part, for some similar reasons - people making unexpected leaps on the season's final day.
i am definitely in rebuilding mode. But having Kevin Durant is a good place to start.

Losing Javale McGee, Bledsoe, Felton, Nash my top picks for the year was awesome... Ben McLemore was a total bust and wasted pick... and losing Westbrook, Kawhi and Anthony Davis for extended periods was the icing on the cake. So all in all 3rd was pretty solid for a team of random free agents surrounding Kevin Love.

congrats on the win!
on my part, my interest in fantasy basketball has waned. i barely played the second half of the season, and made virtually no moves the entire season.
i'm not sure if my interest in basketball has waned, or life got busy this season (more or less living with the girlfriend, new job started in november that keeps me off line most of the day).
either way, it's always a big deal to win a league, so congrats Bomb!
