This thread will be for managers in the RotoGuru Invitational Hoops Challenge to provide the rationale for each pick.
Here are the ground rules: 1. Only managers in this league should post here. If you want to provide feedback (either from other league managers, or from those not in the league), put it in the discussion thread. (Non-conforming discussion in this thread will be deleted.)
2. Try to keep the pick rationales in the same order as the draft. We'll attempt to keep this thread 2 rounds behind the actual draft. With the lag, most comments should not have an impact on the draft in progress. However, if there are aspects of your pick that you feel need to be kept under wraps, feel free to protect that information. In particular, please avoid mentioning the names of any players who are still undrafted at that time of the post.
Please post your (2 round lagged) comments at the time you make your pick. For example, you should post your comments for your round 1 pick when you make your round 3 selection. If you are not ready to post at that time, then create a "placeholder" so that the next person is able to go ahead in sequence. When your post is ready, simply post it in the draft discussion thread and a moderator can copy it over.
If possible, please draft your rationale at the time your are making that pick. Not only does that allow you to remember your thoughts "in the moment", but it also makes it simple to copy and paste it when it is due, avoiding unnecessary delays and/or placeholders.
If your rationale is due and intervening placeholders have not been inserted, please insert them before posting your rationale. Simply post something like: for Guru 2.10 Robert Pack, PG, Team
This makes it easy for me (or any moderator) to splice the eventual rationale in the proper place.
3. If you are providing rationales after a placeholder has been inserted, then post it in the draft discussion thread, and someone will copy it over.
4. Once the draft is over, each manager is also encouraged to provide a general draft recap, at which time you can discuss your overall strategy, mention any undisclosed factors, comment on what worked out well and what didn't, etc.
The general format should be: 1.01 Kevin Durant, SF, OKC Several sentences of rationale.
In addition, along with your first player rationale, please comment on your rationale for your selection of draft order. |

for Jasonprof 1.01 Kevin Durant, SF,
OKC When I got the first position for choice draft
order at first I hesitated because Durant and James was my
absolutely favorite players and I didn't feel any difference
between them.
After then I chose Durant because of his higher FT%, and
because last year OKC had a lot of very hard games, so the
team needed him until the end of the games.

for twolves 1.02 LeBron James, SF,
Mia I had 3rd pick and had planned to move back to
4th(or even 5th) to get Love but Paul or Westbrook would
have been okay. When Deejay took third, I could not resist
moving up to #2.
I figured I would get Lebron since Jasonprof had first pick
for second year in a row and picked Durant last year and won
our AAA league. I think if Lebron would shoot more 3s he
might get a bit closer to Durant. I think Lebron does not
have much upside from past years but still is #2 because
contributes in all categories.

Paul while great, he's somewhat injury prone, so opted for
Westbrook instead, this might bite me in the ass, but so far
I don't regret my choice, that might change during the
season however.

for T-man Pick #4:Pick #4: With
Kevin Love out, the top 4 picks are in a different class
than the rest of the league. Guaranteed to get one of the 4
elite players, pick #4 is arguably the best pick in the
draft. Personally I would have preferred #1 or #2 to land
Durant or James, but there is no way I would have moved down
and passed on the chance to land Westbrook or Paul.
1.04 Chris Paul, PG, LAC I was pleasantly
surprised that Paul wasn’t taken at #3. I fully expected to
be picking Westbrook here. I would be happy with either
player, but as long as Paul has no setbacks with his wrist,
he should once again lead the league in steals and
contribute solidly in 6 categories. Very nice player to
build my team around.

for Florian I took the highest remaining available draft
slot (5th overall). I figured LeBron and Durant would go 1st
and 2nd. I would have been happy with any of Paul, Love or
Westbrook at the 5th spot. Unfortunately Love got hurt which
led to me drafting:1.05 Deron
Williams, PG, BKN Deron has an improved team this
year. Hopefully that will translate into 20 ppg, 10 assist
and improved FG% compared to the last few years. It should
provide incentive for him to play through minor injuries
near the end of the season.

#7 pick I don't like being at the end of a draft. there are 2 tiers in hoops: the 1st four (James, Durant, Love, Paul) and a 2nd tier of another 4 or 5 players (Westbrook, Deron, Wade, Smith, Kobe). having the 7th selection I pretty much knew that I will end up having the 7th pick and this turned true. I cold have taken #8 but wanted to be safe. as it turned out this was a good selection because of the injury of Love. And even Dirk, usually a 1st rounder, is now out too.
1.07 Josh Smith, PF, ATL with the injury of Love there was one guy less available here. I hoped for Josh Smith when I took the 7th draft pick and hoped that he would be still available. luckily he was. Josh Smith can do everything but shoot free throws. I don't know why because he is even able to hit a three now and then. thankfully the amount of FTs he gets is not as high as those of Dwight Howard and DeMarcus Cousins who have a similar or worse FT%. if you look at all other 7 stats you see a fine player who is above average in all of them. This makes him a solid core for my team.

for Dave R 1.08 Kyrie Irving PG Cle I really wanted Josh Smith with this pick, and think he might have made it to me if Love hadn't broke his hand. I'm not really sure Kyrie deserved to be drafted this high, gave some consideration to Cousins, but decided with the top PG's having already been drafted I'd go with Irving. Kyrie had an amazing rookie season averaging 18.5 ppg, 5.4 assists, 3.7 RB's, 1.4 threes, over a steal a game, all while providing terrific %'s, particularly from the stripe. Had he not ended up injured for the end of the year, his stats may have even been better. While the supporting cast in Cleveland has somewhat improved, Kyrie is still by far the best player on a poor team, which means something for fantasy players. I'm expecting him to take a big step forward this year.

Pick #9: I wish I had a master strategy. But after the top several picks, rankings seem to be all over the place, and I have no particular target in mind that I’m hoping will slip to #9. It’s just the earliest spot available, and the closest to the middle of the draft. Historically, it’s also been one of the luckiest slots to draft from in this league, winning the league twice and finishing in the top 4 six times.
1.09 Demarcus Cousins, PF/C, Sac My short list heading into this pick was Irving, Josh Smith, and Cousins. Cousins may be a bit of a stretch here, but I’m looking for a big year from Cousins, who is just 22. Good scorer and rebounder, decent blocks, excellent steals for a big man, and OK (but not great) blocks. Percentages won’t hurt me.
Biggest risk is his propensity to foul – both personal and technical – which could cost minutes (or even games). FG% is not a high as you’d like for a big, although I’m looking for something around 47% this year.
The 9th pick may be a tad early for him, but I really didn’t think he’d still be available at pick #16, and there weren’t any other players on the board that I liked better. Since I missed on Irving, I’ll probably go for a guard in round 2.

Expected to get what was left between Aldridge,
Jefferson, and Irving with this slot. I preferred one of the
two big guys. I didn't expect to have to choose, but Guru
surprised me with his first selection. Time will tell if the
choice was good/bad or a wash. This will be the first year

Aldridge, PF/C, Por Wanted a big man who would not

Pick #12: As soon as i found out i was near the end of draft-order-draft, i made the conscious decision that i would draft on the turn if the option to do so was still around. I'm getting married in less than a week, so being able to pick twice in succession helps from a time perspective. That, and i don't recall ever having drafted on the turn before in RIHC. So, something different, as well.
1.12 Kobe Bryant, SG, LAL I'm a bit perplexed by some of the articles out there that suggest that Kobe is going to drop off a cliff. Kobe is the leader of that Lakers squad, and even with all the new faces, i just can't see too much to worry about. You could argue he might lose a few shots, but the efficiency should rise. I expect last year's numbers again. And that is a great foundation to start with, as far as i'm concerned.
2.01 Stephen Curry, PG, GSW Oh boy. Talk about sticking your neck out. I was absolutely torn between Curry and Andrew Bynum. Both are serious injury risks, especially at this slot. In the end, i just could not ignore Steph's per game production. Of course, the ankles are a huge concern. I feel like this is already the key pick in my entire draft. If he can play 75 games, there's almost no way he doesn't return 1st round value.

for Swinganamiss 2.03 Andrew Bynum,
C, Phi Bynum returns from my team last year. He was
quite the over achiever on last years team. I think he can
at least achieve this second round value if he can get and
stay relatively healthy. He made it through last year
without any significant injury, so hopefully he can do it
again this year. Not off to the greatest start, but
hopefully he's ready to go for the season.
I had offered to trade down in this round thinking I could
get either Bynum or Love later in the round (and have a shot
at Jennings or Rondo in the third), but had no takers. In
the end, Bynum is capable of 1st round value if he can stay
on the court, so I'll take the risk and look for Gs later.

2.04 Brandon Jennings, PG, Mil After getting a big in the first round, I preferred to get a PG in round two. My two leading choices were Ty Lawson and Jennings. When Curry and Lawson went in the first two picks of this round, I wasn’t sure Jennings would survive the third pick. But he did.
Jennings is a returnee from my team last year (although drafted in the 5th round last year). The ESPN player rater ranks him 10th overall for last season. He provides strength in all guard-dominated cats. I have hope for improvement in FG%, as he’s added roughly 2% per year in each of the last two seasons, (37%, 39%, 41.8%). Ranked 16th last year in scoring. Ranked 12th in treys and also in steals. At just age 23, there is still potential for improvement.
I thought about taking Love here, but deferred for several reasons – 1) I wanted a PG, 2) Love’s injury situation brings uncertainty, and 3) Love provides stats that I tend not to overpay for anyway (i.e., if he wasn’t injured, he'd likely be drafted well before I’d take him.) Carmelo Anthony was another consideration – ditto on item 3. I even strongly considered Marc Gasol at this point. Fortunately, Jennings was still available, so I never had to make that choice.

for Dave R 2.05 Kevin Love F/C Min Yeah, I know he's hurt, but someone would take him sooner or later. Probably sooner. I can rationalize it in a number of ways. Coming back from a broken hand is easier than having suffered a knee or ankle injury. Latest word was he may miss as few as 10 games. Rotoworld had him projected for 73 games, and still ranked him 4th, soooo, assuming he misses no other games, I think I'm getting an excellent bargain in round 2. Make sense? We'll see. He probably won't just miss the games from this injury based on his past history, but I'll risk it. Love does everything well, but block shots, and there are plenty of those left on the board. Scorching the nets for 26 ppg and averaging over 13 RB's last year is just a start. Love also hit over 100 3's and is an excellent FT shooter for a big man. I'm putting a lot of stock in Love coming back soon, and hopefully staying healthy for the rest of the year.

2.06 Carmelo Anthony, SF, NYK most of the available players worth a pick here had a poor FT%: Griffin, Rondo, Howard, Monroe. I could not convince myself to pick any of them because of the big hole I would have to overcome there. I thought a bit about Kevin Love but decided to wait 1 more round. turned out that he was picked just in front of me so I could have avoided to make that decision. In the end I went with Carmelo. I hope he takes a better shot selection this year, if not he is able to kill my FG%. On the other hand he shoots a lot of free throws which more than makes up the deficit of Josh Smith.

for T-man 2.09 Dwight Howard, C, LAL I stewed about this one for a while. In my mind there were three concerns. One, at the time of my pick he had not yet played since his back surgery 6 months ago. Two, I’m not sure how the Lakers will use him alongside Pau Gasol. Will he get the touches with so much talent around him? Howard does most of his damage in post up situations and Mike Brown has shown a tendency to use Kobe on isolations without going through the bigs in the paint. It’ll be interesting to see how Howard fits in, and I’m not sure what that does to his numbers. Three, how to stomach his FT%? For someone that goes to the line as much as he does, that miserable FT% can single handedly kill that category. At the end of the day, I decided that his potential to dominate FG%, Reb, and blocks and contribute solidly in FG% and steals was just too much to pass up at this point in the draft. Update: Based on his preseason debut Sunday night, I feel a lot better about concerns one and two, not so much about three…

3.07 Steve Nash, PG, LAL I couldn't pass on an aging Steve Nash here. I remember that I often struggle with assists in such leagues because you rarely find them on waivers. Steve Nash is the 1st player that solves that problem for me. I am uncertain how many shots he will get with that many weapons around. but the less he scores himself the more he dishes out assists to the others. he does not kill my FG% as many other PGs would do but this comes also at the cost of his relatively low steals. I decided on another PG, and I've never had Rondo in this
format. There are several holes in his game from what you'd
expect from your typical PG, due to his lack of 3's and
poor FG%, But those assists and steals are great. While I
don't expect this is the year he starts draining 3's, or
hits 90% from the stripe, I think back to the playoff last
year where he nearly carried the Celtics on his back and
nearly upset Miami. Game 1 for example, 44 points, 8 boards
and 10 assists.
I don't expect lines like that, but I think 12 points, 12
assists, 5 RB's and 2 steals are within reach.

I’m not even going to posit a stat line for him. We’ll just see how it pans out. I do expect decent blocks, and decent shooting percentages, which will mean that his other stats don’t need to be monstrous to provide overall value.

TorI really wanted another quality PG here having

Lowry - i don't expect him to be seriously challenged by the

Tony Parker is the next best PG on my list, and actually ranked a little better than Holiday last year on the ESPN player rater. But Parker is 30, and I’m going with the youthful upside of Holiday.

I had Gortat last year, and while not flashy he's pretty reliable And durable. Nothing sexy here, just a solid player. I expect similar stats as last year, somewhere around 16 ppg, 11 Rb's, and 1.5 blocks, and nearly 1 steal per game. I just hope he doesn't miss Nash to much.

4.06 Tony Parker, PG, SAS Tony Parker, when healthy, is a very good point guard. he does not shoot a lot of threes, but this is only helping his FG% which is 2nd among PG starters with Nash being top and also on my team. having 2 PGs with a good FG% gives me the option to pick players with a slightly worse FG% in the next few rounds. There is no worry about his age. he is only 30 which is much young than the 38 years of Steve Nash.

Bos Garnett has provided top 20 roto value for the

better than his numbers as a PF last year and this year he

His numbers in his 36 starts at center last year were 16.8

FG% and 87% FT%. If he misses no more than 12 games and

Batum/JJohnson/Holiday/Matthews/Teague.
Batum went quickly, Holiday too, at one point I was

So debated a while between Matthews(ranked 27th via Yahoo)

Matthews FG% aint great, but I figured I needed 3's since my

Not playing in the preseason is bothersome but hard to read if precautionary or really bad. However, if healthy enough to play can contribute points, 3s and hoping some assists. I never thought Dirk would still be available in the 5th round (despite his recent surgery). He is one of my favourite players and has seldom missed any games in his career. With recent reports that he may be back as soon as 3 weeks rather than in 6 weeks as originally reported I couldn't resist the chance to pick him. If he returns to form and manages to play more than 60 games I will be very happy with this pick. If he manages to play 70 this will be a steal. 5.07 Tyson Chandler, C, NYK with 2 picks to go my queue was Dirk + Granger. guess what? they go in that order and I had to go through the players that I did not like compared to those 2: - Blake Griffin: I don't want to punt FT%. I'll let the Dwight Howard owner do this. - Jeff Teague: I already have enough guards providing assists. may be interesting in the next round because of his steals. - Jermey Lin: unsure what he can and will do in his 1st full season. I bet he won't be as good as during his Linsanity stint in NY. - Amare' Stoudemire: knee injury, will miss the 1st few weeks. probably interesting in 2 rounds. - Ryan Anderson: acceptable FG% for the amount of 3s he is taking. good rebounding numbers. low in blocks, steals and assists. new team could hurt early production - Tyson Chandler: very good FG% where I am already top. low FT% where I am already trailing. his rebounds and blocks would be nice though.
In the end I took Chandler over Anderson. he is also expanding my FT issues but not like Blake Griffin would do. and the blocks compared to Griffin are better too. I just hope that I can turn around my FT% and 3-pt categories with my next few picks.

I hadn't planned on grabbing him at this point, as he's another player with some holes in his game. He doesn't block many shots for a big man, and his FT% is putrid. One of the roto sites says let someone else overpay for him and draft him in the first or second round, if he falls to round four, you got an excellent pick. So getting him in round 5 is even better. I expect 20+ ppg, 11 RB's, half a block and steal, and excellent FG% to go along with the putrid FT%

Next on my list was Thornton. Continuing my youth movement, Thornton (25) enters his 4th season. A scorer, he led the Kings in points last year (18.7/g), draining more than a pair of treys per game. Good steals (1.4/g), strong FT%, acceptable FG% considering the 3-point potential.
Lillard, Faried, and Ryan Anderson were also on my radar, and I hoped that one of them would survive to my next pick. But it didn’t take long before I had to start working on plan B.

for Dave R 6.05 Tyreke Evans, SG/SF, Sac What a difference a few years makes, it was just three years ago Tyreke took the NBA by storm, averaging 20 ppg, over 5 RB's and Assists and 1.5 steals on his way to Rookie of the year. What happened? I think Evans was out of position at PG, and now will be playing SG or SF, and I love that flexibility. Or maybe lofty expectations. Even in a down year Tyreke scored at a clip of 16.5 ppg and over 4 RB's and assist 1.5 steals. Arguably those stats produced 4th round value, and here is falling to me in round 6. Was it just those lofty expectations that let him slip so far. I hope so. Rumors have it is that he's in terrific shape, and become somehwat of a gym rat. 6.06 Jeff Teague, PG, ATL I am always targeting other players and somehow I end up with a PG instead. Ryan Anderson would have been my top choice here, but he was gone as soon as I went asleep. I had Teague as the 2nd player in my queue because I believe he has too much value at this point. I guess with 3 of the top PGs I don't need to look too closely for assists again. Teague and his steals also make up the steals that Nash and Parker aren't getting. he even gets a healthly amount of blocks for a PG, if only he could score a few more 3s. I have dug myself a huge hole in that stat and I am still searching for the players to full that.
it also seems that I forced the managers after this pick to go for PGs because the next 5 were from that position.

I was going to take Ginobili with this pick as he has been great on my team in past years. I even had his name typed in, but couldn't make the pick. I ended up taking Lin instead. Houston got rid of two PGs,who were both taken much earlier in the draft, to sign Lin, so it seems likely that he will get all the minutes he can handle. As a starter last year averaged 18.2 ppg, 7.7 assists, 3.7 boards, 2.0 steals, 1.0 3PTM and 4.7 TO with reasonable percentages for a PG. Fortunately those turnovers won't hurt me in this league. Assuming his knee has healed and he manages to put up numbers anywhere close to those in Houston he will have top 20 value.

This was the round when I left behind me the

really before D. Lillard, but he was gone when I turn on

players in the market.
I think Bargnani was a big steal. He is an all stats player,
but not a real center, because of the relatíve lock of
blocks, and the rebounds aren't coming as it would be
wanted. But the percentages, the points, and the threes could
compensate. I hope the last year was the year of injuries,

After getting two rebounders with my first three picks (Cousins & Unibrow), I’ve been more focused on scorers. So Humphries fills a team need. With Brook Lopez not currently injured, Humphries may not put up stats quite as good as last year, but I should still get a double-double with a block per game and good percentages.
At this juncture, he’s also the senior statesman of my roster, at age 27. I also considered Kawhi Leonard, who would have fit the youth movement better – but I really thought I needed to crash the boards with this pick.

8.04 Carlos Boozer, PF/C, Chi Solid but unspectacular. Definitely not a fit with the youthfulness of my squad. But he offers decent value at this stage of the draft, even with some age-related declines. He was a top-50 player last year, based on the ESPN player-rater. Really solidifies my rebounding, and provides the FG% boost that I look for from a big man. And he’s center eligible, which fills a need.
I almost took Kawhi Leonard. I almost stretched for a PG (might have taken Vazquez if he slid to here.) Considered a half-dozen other options as well, before settling on the presumed stability of Boozer.

for SANFORDORS 8.05 Luol Deng, SF,
CHI Maybe Deng's injuries from last year are a
concern, but Luol mid 8th round? Either I'm getting a
bargain, or I missed the memo. Rotoworld says to target him
in the 4th or 5th round. There is some concern that his
wrist could be a problem, but he did return 5th round value
last year, and it didn't seem to bother him in the
Olympics.
Luol can fill up a stat sheet, he's good for 3+ assists, 6-7
boards, and 1 steal per. Additional he has become a 3 point
threat, averaging 1.5 over the past 2 years. Throw in 16
ppg, I think I got excellent value in round 8.

8.06 Luis Scola, C, PHO coming into this pick the 1st two from my queue were Deng and Boozer. guess what? they got picked just in front of me. This time by the managers on the other side of my pick. My team would look a lot different if I would have the #6 or #8 draft slot. so I had to settle for a different player providing me with points and rebounds. I hope Scola can do this for my team. he does not look pretty good so far in preseason but it is just the preseason. His main competition Channing Frye seems to be out for the season so there is some job security there. we will see how this pick looks like in a few weeks.
question to all: why is it so hard to find a shot blocker that can actually nail some three throws? I am still in need for a lot of blocks but don't want to pull the trigger yet on 2 or 3 category specialists.

West isn’t going to be a 20-10 guy like you want in you

No need to get fancy here. I wanted to lock a steady starter

best since it was made by divine intervention and autopick

think I had 18 in Que in no specific order to look at for

My theories on how this happened include:
1. Someone higher up was trying to show me the way.
2. Guru made the pick feeling concerned about my previous

Jonas going to top competitors drafting in front of him.

me too) has problem only with the FG%, maybe it will be
better this year. I am worry a bit about Sessions good

Glen Davis will help my team in points. I wanted
Valanciunas, but he was gone one pick before me, so I
decided to strength in center position. I needed a center

choice. When he got enough time on the court he is very

SAS I was somewhat surprised that Leonard was still
available this late in the draft. He is not flashy and
doesn't score very much, but he is entrenched as a starter

9 points, 5.4 boards, 1.4 steals, and 0.8 3PTM with a FG% of

He came roaring out of the blocks last year with 14 double double in the first 25 games, and 1.4 steals. He doesn't block allot of shots for a big, but if he can average close to 1 per game, I'd be happy. He doesn't have much competition on Cleveland for playing time, but it is entirely possible they end up trading him at some point. I'll just have to hope it's somewhere we he can stay on the court. 9.09 Rodney Stuckey, PG, Det When I wrote my 8th round rationale (Boozer), I mentioned that I considered a number of options. Stuckey was one of the primary options I had in mind, and actually started drafting his rationale – which helped convince me that I was reaching too far for an 8th rounder.
17 picks later, I don’t feel like Stuckey is a stretch now. This is pick 105. One of the rankings I’m looking at has him ranked #59. Another has him at #81. Last year, the ESPN player rater ranked him at 109, which is hurt somewhat because Stuckey missed 11 games. I’d rather have a true PG, but those are hard to come by anymore. Stuckey should average 4+ assists, with 16 ppg. He’s apparently been working on his treys over the summer, and if he shoots more, that may hurt his FG%, but maybe it’ll be worth it.

Yes, he has Jefferson and Millsap in his way to big minutes,

10.01 Andrew Bogut, C, GSW So, how do you rate an

10.06 Chris Kaman, C, DAL initially I wanted a 3pt-shooter here but I couldn't find one that I liked for this pick. I have a few on my list but they have to wait at least for another pick. we are now picking players that do have one or more of the following in common: - good preseason with unknown playing time because he is not the projected starter - bad preseason of a projected starter so that the backup has the chance to earn more minutes or even starts - injury history - banged up already
I would say Kaman falls into categories 3 and 4. I hope the injury issues will be gone in a few days. Dirk is out for the 1st few weeks of the season so it is expected that the big guys incl. Kaman will see a bit more minutes early on. I don't know if this is good for his health, but I better ride him for as long as he his healthy and producing. when healthy I primarily expect him to rebound and block. 11.09 Derrick Rose, PG, Chi I wasn’t really planning on doing this. I started assembling my queue about 8 picks ago, and it started with Asik, Hawes, and Nene. I threw Rose in there just to keep him in mind.
When the three big men all disappeared, I started to think, “Why not?” I do think there is a reasonable chance the Rose will sit out the whole year. And there is also a chance the he won’t return until March, just in time to see if he can be ready for the playoffs. But if he should happen to come back in January, then this could really work out well.
The downside? Since we have two injury slots, and (so far-knock on wood) I have no one that I need to stash there, my only loss is the opportunity cost of an 11th round pick. If there was someone that I really wanted, I’d take him. But I don’t, and I’ve also got a sense that I’m going to be weak in assists.
If we weren’t using injury slots, I wouldn’t do this. But we are. And I did.

seasons ago, Wright was a 4th round pick and exhibited a
versatile and multi-tooled fantasy skillset. After a down
year last season, things look on the up again as he picks up
6th man duties in Philly. 30mpg seems possible, as JRich and
Evan Turner cannot possibly play 35 every night. I expect
something between his 2010 and 2011 numbers - that means
tonnes of 3s and steals, and even a few assists. There are
rumours he'll play some backup PG. Pretty nice pick here
overall, i would say.

12.04 Kevin Seraphin, PF/C, Was Back to the youth movement. Seraphin (22) posted 14 pts, 7 rebs, and 1.8 blocks in his 21 starts last season. Shot 55% FG and 72% FT post-ASB. Those numbers probably reflect the upside potential, but he should get ample playing time, and might even start. Currently out with a calf injury, but this doesn’t seem to be a long-term concern.
I thought about taking Hinrich here (since I have Rose as well) to complete a Chicago PG, but decided to go big instead.

for Dave R 12.05 Robin Lopez, C, NOR In assessing my draft, I seem to be pretty strong in most cats, other than FT% and blocks. I can't readily cure the bricks coming from team SANFORDORS, but at least I can try and add some blocks. Biyombo was at the top of my list, and probably should have grabbed him a round earlier, and I fully expected Seraphin at least would be available. Hopefully Lopez wins the starting gig in New Orleans, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of competition. I'm not expecting much more from him than a block per game and some RB's.

12.06 Chandler Parsons, SF, HOU I looked at Danny Green, Micheal Beasley, Dorell Wright and Chandler Parsons for my 11.07. Since some of them were still there when I woke up this morning I simply looked at the news from last night. there was no news. Beasley and Wright went right after breakfast so I hoped that Parsons would last. he did. I had him last season in a different league and he provided solid value in the 2nd half of the season. It seems that he will start for now and should provide similar stats than last year. He is pretty average in most counting stats with above average numbers in steals and threes, 2 categories where I project myself behind. I hope that Delfino who is challenging him for the starting gig will come off the bench all season to give Parsons the 30 minutes per game I need him for.

for Florian 12.08 Kirk Hinrich, PG, Chi I really wanted a third PG on my team. It came down to Hinrich, Sessions and Jack. Hinrich will probably start for at least the first half of the season. He may start all year if Rose does not make it back until next year. He should put up at least 10ppg, 2-3 boards, 4-5 assists, 1 steal and 1-1.5 3PTM. At this point in the draft I'm happy with those numbers.

for T-man 12.09 Demar DeRozan, SG, Tor I had been eyeing Demar for several rounds now. It just seems like his critics have kept his stock down. Sure, he doesn’t shoot the three ball well at all for a SG. But he contributes in other areas and at this point in the draft, I’ll take an athletic starter that should get plenty of minutes and scoring opportunities on his team. I’m surprised he has slipped this far and feel pretty good about picking him up here.

12.12. Jae Crowder, SF, DAL 13.01. Jarrett Jack, PG, GSW
Jae Crowder wasn't in my focus, to say the truth I have never heard about him before the preseason. This pick was the result of a sudden decision. With Nowitzki's injury Crowder got a lot of chance in the last six games, I realised the team was changing, but he was always in the starting five and produced well in all these games. I hope it was not only an experience but a final decision to build the team in absence of Dirk.
In this phase of the draft I needed to strength in PG position because I had only real PG Dragic is not enough to ensure good results in Assists. My second option in PG position was Kemba Walker, who can collect assists too, but I felt my team is too week in this area. I picked up Jack, because of his ability, but I know, until Curry is healthy Jack will not get enough time to be an elite fantasy player. I think it will be at least 20 games when Jack will be a starter, and in the other games hi will play about 25 minutes. It could be enough for him to produce as third option of my team at PG position.

for T-man 13.04 Jared Sullinger, PF, BOS My rationale for drafting Brandon Bass was that I knew what I could expect from him on a nightly basis. I don’t think that’s true anymore. Bass’ knee seems to be bothering him and Sullinger has gotten the start in several games and played well. I don’t like what that could mean for Bass. Solution: pick up Sullinger. Not only does this help cover my hide for selecting Bass too early, but I feel that Sullinger compliments the less exciting but steady Bass due to his breakout potential. I will plan on playing whichever one is getting the minutes in Boston until this situation sorts itself out.

for Florian 13.05 Dion Waiters, SG, Cle
Finding good players in the 13th round is difficult. Rookies often outperform their average draft position. Waiters was the 4th pick in the draft last year, so he should get decent playing time. He doesn't have great competition at SG in Cleveland, though he does have Byron Scott to deal with as a coach. The experts seem to have him ranked in the 100-120 range, so this seemed like a reasonable time to take a gamble on him.

for Dave R 13.08 Tristan Thompson PF/C Cle
At this point in the draft, I was hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. Virtually every site includes the words " sleeper " or " breakout potential " when discussing Tristan for the upcoming season. Unfortunately the same terms have been used when discussing some with a similar name, Tyrus Thomas, over the past few years. I'm hoping Tristan lives up to the hype.
He's young, only his second year. It looked like he was going to start for Cleveland, but now it's not as certain.
None the less, in limited time last year he averaged 8 ppg, 6.5 Rb's, and 1 block per. I'm hoping for a nice uptick in those numbers. Plus he fits right in with the rest of the guys on my team who are abysmal from the stripe.

for Swish 13.12 AJ Price, PG, Was
Truthfully, i made these next 2
picks after about 5 beers on the night before i got married.
I remember clumsily marking up my cheatsheet and not liking
any of the names that were left. This is also the point in
the draft where there can be some value in picking up
replacements for injured starters, and that was my thinking
here.
Price is locked in as the Wizards starting PG until Wall
returns. Shelvin Mack was released, so he's basically got
the gig to himself. My expectations are modest - some 3s and
assists and a low FG%, but you know what? That's fine at the
end of round 13. 14.01 Chris Copeland, PF, NYK
The Knicks have been devastated by injuries and Copeland
has been the primary beneficiary. He's had an excellent
preseason, and i don't see why that cannot continue whilst
the Knicks roster is lacking bodies. That Euroleague
experience in Belgium will mean he's NBA-ready. Basically,
this was just a gut call. If i can get some monster games
out of him in the first few weeks whilst the roster
situation is murky, that's a good result. But maybe he'll
grow into a role and be more of a keeper. Again, that's a
reasonable risk reward scenario for round 14.

14.04 Wilson Chandler, SF, Den I was reviewing all of the players on my roster and their respective position eligibilities. In the process, I discovered that the only player eligible at SF was Gallinari. I figured I should look for some flexibility, especially in the event that he was ever injured.
As fate would have it, one of the highest ranked remaining players at SF was also on Denver, Wilson Chandler. I don’t consider this a classic handcuff situation, although it does seem reasonable that if Gallinari were to be injured, Chandler would see extra playing time. But it’s possible that Chandler will have value even if Gallinari stays healthy.
At some point, I’ll probably want a non-Denver SF as well, although not necessarily to start the season.

Al Harrington is exactly that. It even seems that he is ahead of his scheduled mid-December return but I don't count on that. When healthy he should get around 30 minutes where. he is also able to shoot a lot of threes so there is even a fit with my team beside the injury status. I also thought about some rookies that could see some playing time, but they are all uncertain and not starting right now.
