This thread is for a general retrospective on the 2012-13 RIHC season. RIHC managers are encouraged, but not required, to post. Others are also invited to share their observations.
You may comment on any aspect of the season, including or excluding those listed below.
For League Managers: 1. How did you do, relative to your own expectations? What were your best decisions? What didn't work so well? If you could reverse one or two decisions you made during the draft or the season, what would they be?
2. Are there any changes in league rules that you would suggest for next year?
3. What have you learned over the course of this season? More critically, what would you do differently if you had to do it over - not necessarily with 20/20 statistical foresight, but in terms of general tactics or strategies?
4. How important was the draft to your success or lack thereof? To what extent were you able to make effective adjustments via free agent pickups or trades?
For participants in one of the Qualifying Leagues: 5. How did your league experience compare to that observed for the RIHC?
6. I'd appreciate if someone from each QL would post the final standings of that league in this thread. (Please indicate who the managers were as well, if team names aren't self-identifying.) That will help me get organized for next fall. In addition, I'd like to hear from any QL commish (via email, preferably) if there were any behavioral issues which should be considered in evaluating next year's invitees for the RIHC and the AAA league(s). Belligerent behavior, or sustained non-participation are particular areas of concern. |

Rules learned: Don't draft Dwight Howard ever again, he basically murders your FT%...
Also was curious how callups are determined? How does one move up to AAA or RIBC? Conversely how are demotions determined?

Still awaiting standings from the Yahoo AAA league.
[5] - General rules are these:
RIHC top 4 teams in RIHC top 2 in each AAA winner of each AA me one other - often one of the AAA third place teams, although it can depend on a number of factors (ties, closeness of standings, clear breakpoints, etc.).
For AAA, I take the rest of the RIHC teams, plus all other teams in AAA or AA finishing in the top half of their league.

Wow...I'm not sure I've ever seen places 2-6 so close before as this year's Yahoo AAA league.
In AAA ESPN League, G$ moved out to a commanding lead...and the rest of the top half fought it out for 2nd.

1. After the draft expectations were hopeful but realistically hoped to make it to the upper 1/2 with missteps during draft on 20/20 hindsight. Finished as high as I thought I could after terrible start. It appeared almost from the start that there were the haves and have nots. Best moves were few and far between although picking up Tony allen and Jeff green after they had been dropped by others may have been the best.
LOts did not work well as it seemed if I gave some thought to picking some one up, he got snatched if I hesitateed or I was not there in time. AS mentioned earlier should have stuck to original plan of drating Klay Thommpson at 4 and Lillard at 5 rather than Hibbert and Gordon especially since had Ibaka for shot blocker already.
2. no suggestions although the ESPN format is nice to allow playing players the same day as picked up if before 1st game start.
3. NOt to become too attached to players just because drafted them. May need to pick up players right away if role changes via injury. Cannot afford to fall too far behind in categories early like steals, 3s, and assists.
4. Draft was important particularly early rounds to pick healthy guys who can play. Later in draft I should have paid more attention to specialists or multicat guys. Was able to make a few adjustments but probably should have writen off steals early instead of trying to play catch up as gained only one point.

My league experience was excellent. Pacers Rule (congrats on the round 1 win btw) was an excellent league manager and stayed on top of things to protect the games integrity.
I will add that I have played both yahoo and espn and have done so with an open mind but I find the espn league to be superior in operation, information, etc. should all leagues use the same format? Should there be a waiver order or is first come first served best? Not sure why but the ir bugged me. With our roster sizes and ir spots it was hard to find decent free agents. Maybe it isn't the ir as much as the roster sizes for 12 team leagues?

2. no suggestions although the ESPN format is nice to allow playing players the same day as picked up if before 1st game start.
You could do this in Yahoo. And I do it in my friends and family leagues. The only stipulation is that if a player is in your active lineup (playing a game with stats counting on your totals) that you can't drop him til next day (after 3 AM processing).
But especially in hoops when many times half your roster has the night off... its nice to be able to drop those guys and stick a guy in the lineup immediately.
This I think is superior to ESPN -- because once the first game start on ESPN any moves you make aren't effective til next day anyway which I think is worse. So if a 10 PM west coast game -- and Chris Paul is out and you want to jump on his backup for some quick assists... you can't do that with ESPN. But you COULD do that with Yahoo by just dropping anyone without a game or anyone on your bench.
