This thread will contain all of the individual pick rationales for the 2013 RIHC draft. RIHC managers should supply those rationales in the Rationale Collection thread. You will not be able to post directly into this thread.

I expect that this thread will be updated daily.

1.01 Durant, Kevin - OKC - SF
It was nice having first choice of where to pick. I briefly considered taking #2 knowing the worst I would get would be James. After comparing the numbers a little bit I preferred Durant especially for the great FT%.

KD gives me a perfect base in basically every category to build my team around now I just need to not screw up the rest of the draft.

1.02 James, Lebron - MIA - SF
No-brainer. He is the current King of the league / best player in the world. He stuffs the stat sheet like no other. If I had the first pick I probably would have struggled deciding between Durant and Bron, but since I picked second the choice was basically made for me.

The 3rd pick is a tough one between Harden, Paul and Curry. I went with Harden because I think he is more durable, and adding Dwight to their roster may open more open opportunities for him.

1.04 Paul, Chris - LAC - PG
Since I wasn't able to pick my draft position until 10th overall, I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to get the 4th overall pick. The only two players I considered at this position were Paul and Curry. I settled on Paul mainly because I was less worried about Paul's knee giving out that Curry's ankle giving out. I felt that the extra steals and assists from Paul would be harder to replace later in the draft than the extra 3PTM and scoring that Curry would provide.

Happy to have either Paul or Curry for the 5th pick. Obviously there is always the ankle issue but the pay off if he has 75 plus games is huge.

1.06 Irving, Kyrie - CLE - PG
I could have taken the 4th spot in the draft but to me Paul, Curry and Irving should all (if healthy) be very similar statistically and by drafting 6th I was guarenteed one of them and it would give me a slightly higher pick in the second round. Irving is also only 21 and is still improving and his supporting cast should be better this year. Health is always a concern but Paul and Curry have their own concerns and hopefully Cleveland will be in a playoff race and Irving will be motivated to play through some injuries (if needed) late in the year. This will probably be the last time in this draft where my plan actually comes together.

1.07 Gasol, Marc - MEM - C
I also could have selected as high as fourth in the draft, but I felt there was a big drop off after the top two. I started looking at players likely available in round two and once it got to about 16-20 it looked like there might be another dropoff from second tier to third tier guys, so I decided on pick 7 so I would get a strong player on the comeback pick. I also like picking in the middle of drafts to not have to reach too far and have more of a chance to grab guys who might slip.

I originally was targeting Gasol with the 7th pick and figured he'd still be there...and if not, I'd have a pretty good player still available. I love Paul George but just don't quite feel he's going to bring top 7 value. I wavered though and thought I'd maybe make the first surprise pick by taking D. Rose, thinking him fully healthy and maybe even better than pre-injury. Then when he had to sit out a preseason game b/c of soreness in his bad knee....I decided it was just too big a gamble for round 1 and I didn't want to bet my whole fantasy season on his health. I hoped he might make it back to me at 18. When he torched the Pacers for 32 points in their 2nd preseason meeting, I knew the chances of him making it back to me at #18 were remote...and I almost offered to trade Gasol for the right to pick D. Rose. Still, Gasol is multicategorically solid - esp. in assists for a big- and with there being some talk of picking up the pace there in Memphis, I thought he would be a safe pick in round 1 with even just a little upside this year while knocking out a C eligible player at the same time.

1.08 Love, Kevin - MIN - PF
I too, had the option of taking pick 4, but in the end I thought I would be better served picking later and having an earlier pick in round 2. I picked 8, thinking that Paul George would be my guy at that point.

I was surprised that Love slipped to me at 8, maybe others were afraid due to his injury shortened season last year. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Last year Love torpedoed my season as an early 2nd round gamble. I was fully aware Love would be out for an early stretch, never dreaming his return would be limited to 18 games.

So what's changed? It sounds like Love is fully recovered and on course for a monstrous bounce back season. You only have to go back to 2011-12 to see what kind of an impact he can have, 26 ppg, 13+ Rb's, and oh, by the way, 1.9 treys. Love doesn't block shots like your normal big, and his FG% is not up to PF/C standards, but he knocks down FT's at a better than 80% clip. If he stays healthy, I think he offers top 5 value .

1.09 George, Paul - IND - SF
Having worked out really well last year with the 12th spot, i was really hoping to land that one again, and was a bit disappointed when that spot evaporated kinda early. So i went for 9 instead. I only really expected 2 players to choose from here - George and Love. And i probably would have taken Love if he had been available. But in true Dave R style (We've got history...) he pinched my pick.

So George was an easy decision. I think he's good value here, and provides a solid base in points, 3s, steals and FT%. Plus, there's a pretty decent chance for him to outperform this position if he can take the Pacers on his shoulders, as expected.

1.10 Anthony, Carmelo - NYK - SF
The biggest surprise as I was waiting for my selection was seeing both Love fall and Pacers passing on George. I felt good knowing I would get one of these two or the defending nba scoring champ -Anthony.

As I looked at my options at 10, I felt getting a quality SF was the right way to go here. I didn't see any chance that he would be there at 15 and Anthony simply made for a good safe pick. That was important because I was thinking I may gamble a little with my second pick. Ultimately my second round pick thoughts changed the way picks 11-14 played out.

1.11 Ibaka, Serge - OKC - PF
Pick 11 – Once the top two picks were gone, I decided I’d prefer the back end of the draft. No particular player targets in mind.

I wanted my first two picks to be a big and a PG. For the bigs, my short list (in no particular order) was M. Gasol, Ibaka, Horford, and Anthony Davis. For PGs, it’s probably Deron Williams, Derrick Rose or John Wall. With Gasol gone already, I decided to go for the block potential of Ibaka, combined with a decent FT% and even a few treys. He doesn’t rebound as" well as someone like Horford, but I thought I’d be better able to fill in boards than blocks later on."

1.12 Davis, Anthony - NOR - C
My "draft order strategy" was the time management. I live in Europe, so it is hard to manage the picks without slowing the draft. Although I get the opportunity to choose somebody from the top five I decided to be the snake tail.

In the first t"wo round I wanted a center and a PG. In the past I had problems mostly in these positions so I wanted to avoid this situations.

My plan was Davis and Wall, so I was satisfied. Both of them are young fantastic talent players.

Davis is ver"y strong almost in all stat categories, the FT%, which could be critical in this position is acceptable too. I hope this year he will avoid the injuries, and could play 30-35 minutes per game, I am expecting above 20 points, close to 10 rebounds and 2 steals and blocks average. I dont know what will be the situations with R.Anderson, maybe they could be at the same time on the court more time.

2.01 Wall, John - WAS - PG
I think Wall will have an absolutely good season. Wiht B. Beal really on the bord Washington has real chance to win more (maybe the play off is available), Wall will help my team in points, assists, steals with good percentages, and he is not bad in rebounds and blocks too. Only the weakness is the three pointers, but this year could take changing in this area too. I wanted a PG who has good FG%, Wall was the perfect choice.

2.02 Williams, Deron - BKN - PG
Since my last pick, I had narrowed my first choice of PG to Williams or Rose, and was kind of hoping that Jason would make my decision easy. He didn’t.

I finally decided that since the three rankings that I’m looking at all have Williams ranked slightly ahead of Rose, who am I to quibble? With a stronger team this year, Williams may not be called upon to score as much as last year, but that may also help his assists. He should provide solid top-tier PG stats.

2.03 Rose, Derrick - CHI - PG
As I was plotting out what the landscape would look like when the 15th overall pick came up my question was would Wall still be there or would I buy into the pre-season party that A. Davis has been throwing. As it turned out, those two went back to back at 12 and 13.

Honestly I never expected to have a shot at D Willy or D Rose on the way back and considered both of them as an option at 10. Had Williams not had his ankle issue and negative press right now, he would have been my 10th pick. As it turned out When Rose fell to me at 15 I was shocked, especially after the fact that he put a monster game the night before. If healthy, I think he can easily be a top 3 guard.

2.04 Jefferson, Al - CHA - C
I knew the PG run was imminent, and i was quite upset to come out the wrong end with Rose, Wall and Deron all coming off the board straight before me. I really wanted a PG here, and would have taken Rose in a heartbeat. That said, it just seemed too early for Rubio and Lillard - hope i don't regret that decision.

So, the next port of call was a big man, and Al seems a good fit. With pathetic talent on show in the Bobcats frontcourt, and on their squad in general, i'm expecting Al to have to carry a major scoring load. I'll be honest, i'm looking for 20-10 with 50% FG and 75% FT. Twin that with improved block totals of hopefully nearer 2 than 1.5, and this pick will be "fine". It doesn't excite me in the slightest, but it does feel like the right move here.

2.05 Lillard, Damian - POR - PG
I knew with this pick I wanted a PG. I had hoped Wall or Rose would make it back to me, but no such luck. I read in another rationale, it may have been too early for Lillard ( or Rubio etc ) but the problem with that, is, in this league, you have to grab someone, or they never make it back to you. Form this point, until my next pick, Rubio, Jrue, Conley and Lawson all went of the board.

Why did I choose Lillard over the others? All he did in his rookie season was average 19 ppg, 6.5 dimes, over 3 boards, and 2.3 threes, all with solid %'s. What's not to like?

The only thing missing is a lack of steals for a PG, but my sources in Portland tell me he's been working to improve his "D"

2.06 Batum, Nicolas - POR - SF
Well I had ideally wanted a PG here to pair with my first Gasol brother and was hoping that Wall or D-Will would be available here if Rose wasn't. I didn't like any other PG this early. I figured if I couldn't get one of them, it would probably make the most sense to go big and I thought Al Jefferson was the next best big and would put me in a very nice if imbalanced position with regard to big man numbers paired with Marc Gasol. However, with Big Al being taken off the board, and Batum surprisingly still available, I took a closer look at his numbers and really liked what I saw. I figured keeping with the theme of Gasol's multicategoricality in the early rounds could only help my flexibility in the future. Batum is nice for 3's in particular (which balances out Gasol) but has a high # of assists and decent blocks for a SF with better than a steal a game. Pairing a strong non-PG assist guy with Gasol's strong assist numbers was a nice consolation for not getting the top PG I was hoping for. Welcome to team Naptown, Nicholas.

2.07 Horford, Al - ATL - C
So when we initially had choose our draft positions I envisioned getting Anthony Davis here. As Davis blew up through out the pre-season I knew that wasn`t going to happen. At the end of the first round I made a 7 player que and was happy to get any of the guys. The last two on the list were Horford and Aldridge.I had Horford ahead simply because of the injuries Aldridge has had in the pre-season. Horford is solid across the board and may see a slight increase in usage with the new Atlanta front court. Not a very sexy pick but hopefully a safe one.

2.08 Aldridge, Lamarcus - POR - C
I wanted either Horford or Aldridge. Aldridge has had a slight quad injury problem in preseason but I am not worried as he he rarely misses games.

With JJ Hickson leaving Portland, Aldridge should get over 10 rbs a game to go along with his regular 20+ points. I will need to pick up sone extra blocks later in the draft.

2.09 Wade, Dwyane - MIA - SG
I tried to trade up to snag Rose, but that did not work. I considered Wade, Nowitzki, Pau Gasol and Conley for this pick. Conley seemed too similar to Chris Paul (good steal/assists). Considered Pau Gasol, but looking back he only played in more than 65 games in 2 of the last 7 seasons (admittedly he played 65 of 66 games in 2011-2012). I figured Wade would probably play 65-70 games this year and Nowizki would probably play about 75. Nowizki provided elite FT% and good FG% and scoring. Wade prov"ides elite FG% and steals, good scoring and good blocks for a shooting guard.

I went with Wade because I couldn't resist his potential, but am already starting to have second thoughts. The nightmare scenario of him missing half the season beca"use of his bad knee makes me think I should have picked Nowitzki.

2.10 Leonard, Kawhi - SAS - SF
Looks like I reached based on ADP, but Leonard has a very friendly fantasy game, producing in every category with great percentages. I also expect a sizable improvement from him this year based on his performance in the playoffs, and as the rest of the Spurs roster gets a year older.

2.11 Rubio, Ricky - MIN - PG
Tricky Ricky is probably my favorite player in the L right now. I've always loved pass-first PG's with amazing court vision (see Magic, Stockton, Kidd, Nash, Rondo). I believe that if he can stay healthy (along with his fellow wolves), he is poised for a breakout year. I watched several of his games in the Euro tournament this summer and he has seemed to have made quite a bit of progress on his jumper (especially midrange off the dribble and off the pick & roll). He has the very real potential to lead the L in both assists and steals. He is also a very active rebounder for the PG position. If he can up that FG% to somewhere near respectable, I believe he will be a major player on the fantasy scene.

2.12 Smith, Josh - DET - 0
I really wanted Rubio here but he went 1 pick before me. Smoove may lose some boards and touches to undrafted and undrafted but he should still get me close to 15 points and 8 boards a game to go along with his great steal and block totals. If he can" sprinkle in a few threes like he has in the preseason then that will be a nice bonus."

3.01 Holiday, Jrue - NOR - 0
I felt like I really needed a PG here having taken 2 forwards with my top 2 picks. Jrue is really solid in 3's, steals and assists as well as being a very good rebounding PG. His percentages leave something to be desired but I can live with those. I suppose the move to New Orleans may bring down the counting stat a bit but that remains to be seen if it actually happens.

3.02 Howard, Dwight - HOU - C
I chose to go with Dwight for my third pick anticipating that some of Howard's best days are to come. This was a slightly risky pick so high in the draft considering Howard's statistical decline over the past couple years due to injuries. I am hoping that the extended time he has had to rest, combined with a new setting in H-town, combined with an attitude of wanting to prove all his critics wrong (I really hope he comes out of the gate with this type of mindset), brings out the dominant Dwight from a couple years ago. I also believe that his new teammates like Lin, Harden, Parsons, & Beverley will put in an extra effort to get the big man easy buckets. Finally, it can't hurt Dwight (or his post game) to reside so close to Hakeem & McHale. If he were smart, he would spend as much time as humanly possible soaking up the wisdom from the two players who might have the best set of post moves the league has ever seen.

3.03 Sanders, Larry - MIL - C
I considered Dirk here who went next, but getting someone like Sanders who can get you 3 blocks a game is a huge asset, and he has the all important C eligibility. Sanders really flourished once he was inserted into the starting lineup last season, and a full year there this year will mean big things for him. A low FT% is a bummer, but he doesn't get to the line often so it is not a huge deal.

3.04 Nowitzki, Dirk - DAL - PF
I was very happy to see Nowitzki fall to me in the third round. He is getting older, but reports out of Dallas having him looking the best he has looked in years. He is one of my favourite players. He should be fun to own. His biggest contribution is to team FT% as he takes a lot of free throws and make them at a very high rate. I considered Conley, Millsap, Pau Gasol and Duncan for this pick.

3.05 Cousins, Demarcus - SAC - C
I am a big believer in Cousins, he is a huge talent and could well be a top 25 player this year. He should mature with a new coach and fouls and temper tantrums will reduce.

My second C and another 20/10 contributor with steals for a bonus.

3.06 Conley, Mike - MEM - PG
I was looking for value in this pick and get the best playerr available. It seemed like Conley had slipped a little in the draft and fit the bill. He also led the league in steals which is a category that is hard to fill as the draft goes on. I had also considered Lawson, but liked Conley`s better ft%, and Gay but thought it was too early for him. Memphis is supposed to be a bit more up tempo this year and this may help Conley offensive numbers as well.

3.07 Lawson, Ty - DEN - PG
Of the picks I've made so far, this is my least favorite. I know the least about his game and he wasn't a player I targeted, at all. I realized at this point in the draft with my two picks gone, I was running out of time to pick up a good PG, so after looking over the ones left on the board coming up to my pick, I decided Conley was going to work out nicely; that is, until tommyd took him right out from under me a pick before. I was afraid if I didn't take a PG here, I would be dropping down to a fourth tier PG by the time it came back around to me and I didn't want that for my top PG even with decent assists from other positions in rounds 1 and 2. I didn't see anyone who seemed to be slipping too far, so I decided to go with the best available PG. In retrospect, I should have given Kemba Walker a better look here. I fear he will finish higher on the season. After making this pick, I realized none of my first three were high level scorers so I better get working on that a little bit in the coming picks. Lawson should be serviceable as a good PG as he gets steals and 3's and assists. He also has a pretty good FG% for a PG which helps since his FT% isn't as impressive.

3.08 Walker, Kemba - CHA - PG
I really had Millsap planned here, and was so close to hitting the " draft this player " button, but I flashed back to past seasons where around this point I thought that " oh, I have a PG, I'd just grab another later. But later seems to never come and I was always stuck trying to scramble for PG type stats. I feel better reading that Guru had his eye on him possible a couple picks later, so maybe it was his time.

So I'm buying the Kemba hype. He improved dramatically in his 2nd season, improving his ppg average to 17.7, assists to 5.7, and 2 steals per game. He also knocked down 1.3 treys per game. His FT % is solid and I expect and improvement in his FG %

3.09 Teague, Jeff - ATL - PG
After being on the receiving end of another heartbreaking PG run (Conley, Lawson and Kemba all on my watchlist this time), i decided i could not wait any longer for a starting PG. And Teague should be a good one - he's shown a huge improvement last year, and with ballhog Josh Smith now out of the equation and replaced by the unselfish Paul Millsap, i expect him to elevate his assists into the 8+ range. I also expect him to break the 2 steals barrier, and accomplish it all with decent percentages from the PG spot.

I did consider Cousins here also, but for the sake of my own sanity, declined.

3.10 Lee, David - GSW - PF
As pick 3 approached my queue was filled with 5 guys I wanted to consider - Lawson, Parker, Ellis, lee and cousins. Lawson and cousins went before I could pick which narrowed my list to three.

Lee ended up getting the nod. For starters he has flex between PF/C which i like since i have neither position yet. For a big man he does a lot of things really well shooting over .50 and almost .8 from the ft line. He is also a legit 20/10 guy. Putting him with Anthony and Rose in my first three makes the team really strong in scoring and FT percentage early.

Gay is a stat-stuffer, whose biggest weakness last year was his FG%, which dipped to a career low 41.6%. Off-season LASIK surgery might have corrected that.

3.12 Vucevic, Nikola - ORL - C
In the third and fourth round my plan was to grab one more PG eligible player and a center too.

My goal was Cousins, but coldwater coyotes took him much earlier (I think he had right) and Kemba Walker (he is with SANFORDORS).

The "B" plan was Bledsoe, I managed to pick him, so I am satísfied. I didn't understand exactly what will be the main duty for him with Dragic on the court too, but I hope he can help us with a lot of assist, and mainly in steals.

Vucevic was a surprise for me to find him at the end of third round, bacause his rank in Yahoo is 25th. Earlier I didn't think with Nikola in my team, but I decided along him finally. Last year, he had a huge amount of rebounds, and his FT% not so bad.

Ellis is not the type of player I usually draft, as he’s more of a scorer than anything else. But, after missing out on the PGs in this tier – Conley, Lawson, Walker, Teague – Ellis appeared to the top of my rankings, and I decided to go there rather than reach for someone else.

Now in Dallas in a completely new backcourt combo, it’s a little hard to know exactly how things will work out. And frankly, his steals & treys – along with scoring – should solidify his value at this stage. I hope.

4.03 Parker, Tony - SAS - PG
With a G, SF/PF, PF/C on the roster, I was strongly considering the top SG'S on my list which were Ellis and Bledsoe. Of course the both went b2b in front of me which caused me to look elsewhere.

I now went back to best player available - Parker. Tony can shoot over .500 and .800 from the field which is already a strength of my team add to that the fact that he led SA in scoring at 20 pts a game and can drop 7+ dimes and it made it an easy choice for me here.

Millsap, Jennings and Westbrook also were briefly considered but Parker was just to solid and comfortable to pass on for one of the other three. Plus it never hurts to have a couple solid guards to anchor a team around.

Two Hawks in a row - i have no idea what to make of that. I love Millsap here, though. Many folks forget that he's only a couple of seasons removed from being a top 15 fantasy play. I expect those days again following a change of scene. I really think Paul is ripe for 18 and 8 with very strong hustle stats.

It's not often you get to draft a very safe pick that has a lot of potential to also vastly outperform his draft slot. So it feels good. My only other consideration here was Duncan, but i just couldn't face selecting him, then probably being without him 50% of the time when crunch time rolls around.

4.05 Duncan, Tim - SAS - C
I've seen mock drafts with Duncan as high as a 3rd round pick, and some lower than this. I decided to bite the bullet in round 4.

We all know TD will sit on occasion, as long as its restful and not an injury, I can live with it. He may even see a slight reduction in minutes per game. Still OK. He's getting older ;)

Tim surprised many last year, myself included, bouncing back from two years of mediocre stats, by his lofty standards. Duncan is still solid as evidenced by 17.8 ppg, 9.9 boards, and 2.7 blocks, shooting better than 50% from the field. And his FT% is no longer a drain, last year he hit better than 80% from the stripe. He even kicked in nearly 3 assist per game, more than acceptable from a C.

TD helps almost everywhere, and won't hurt anyplace. Duncan's consistency will be an asset to my team.

4.06 Gasol, Pau - LAL - PF
I had been hoping to land Gasol from the get go with his return to the 'go to' big status there in LA. I like that he is in a contract year and has said he is not necessarily going to take a pay cut to stay and play in LA. To me that says he should be performing at peak - as far as his 33 year old knees will take him. A few years back that was pretty darned high. He is a talented offensive player who scores with good percentages both from the field and the line, blocks shots, rebounds it well and averages poor man's PG assists. Comments have been made that the offense is going to go through him....so if he can stay relatively healthy...then he should well outplay his draft position. I could see him up in third round or even second round rankings by season's end. His first round days are probably behind him, but he is playing for probably his last big contract, so why not roll the dice a little here in round 4 after going relatively safe in rounds 1-3? He's a risk/reward pick here with the risk feeling not terribly high but the upside feeling pretty high. The dual position eligibility is always nice and already I've nabbed a couple C eligible players while not completely turning my back on assists or FT%. Also, hopefully he scores in the high teens again which to a small extent addresses my perceived weakness in scoring.

4.07 Noah, Joakim - CHI - C
Again I was looking for the best player available and upto the last couple of picks before me was going to go with Gasol first and Duncan second but they were snatched up. The only other player I considered here was Hibbert and probably would have been happy with him. Noah offers great fg%, blocks, rebounds and a surprisingly high number of assists (this might go down with D-Rose`s return). Again another solid pick, not going to win this for me but probably won`t lose it either.

One of the plans for my draft was to pick up 3 PGs in the first six rounds. I was going to take Jennings here but I became nervous about his health. So I took Dragic who comes this season with the risk of playing alongside Bledsoe.

4.09 Hibbert, Roy - IND - C
I spent most of the rest of the 3rd round trying to trade up to grab Conley without success. Then tried to trade up to snag one of Millsap, Pau Gasol and Duncan early in the 4th round without success. I was pleasantly surprised to still see 3 reasonable centers available at the end of the 4th round. I choose Hibbert over Bosh and Lopez because I felt that Hibbert was likely to be the most durable. My team is already fragile and I couldn't afford another player that was likely to be sitting out many games. Hibbert has a reasonable chance to build on last year. It would be great to see him finally reach his potential. I'm hoping for 15 ppg, 8 boards, 2.5 blocks and 50% from the floor, which happen to be his stats post all-star break last year. If Hibbert manages that this pick will be a steal.

4.10 Bosh, Chris - MIA - C
Getting a center eligible player with great percentages and solid "big-man" stats (boards and blocks) is so valuable. Bosh certainly qualifies. I also considered Brook Lopez (who went next), but gave the edge to Bosh due to his superior FT%. Lopez has an edge in blocks, but I do have Larry Sanders.

4.11 Westbrook, Russell - OKC - PG
I decided to take Westbrook (aka Furious Styles) earlier than most were picking him (in other fantasy leagues), because of how successfully I heard that his recovery from knee surgery was going. He will be out 4-6 weeks to start the season (after he got an infection from one of the stitches on his knee), but I was willing to wait for his monster production when he returns. When healthy, Russ is a legitimate top 3-10 fantasy player. Also, before this knee injury he was known as somewhat of an iron-man, having never missed a game in high school, college, or the pros. If all goes well Westbrook will be a major contributor for the Magic Air Birds by early December.

4.12 Anderson, Ryan - NOR - PF
I considered taking Favors or Valanciunas here but felt I could get quality big man stats later on in the draft. Pairing Anderson with Durant should give me a real solid base in 3's. His solid points and boards along with his great FG% should justify his draft position. Some slight concern that he will be coming off the bench but I think he will still get his minutes.

5.01 Rondo, Rajon - BOS - PG
A lot of risk with this pick but I did not feel like he would make it back to me 25 picks later. If he can come back healthy I expect his numbers to be up across the board with the exception of a slight regression in assists due to him looking to score more. If he is back in the early part of December then he will exceed this draft position.

5.02 Griffin, Blake - LAC - PF
I was surprised to have found Griffin available at pick #50, so this pick was mainly a value pick. Looking back Derrick Favors probably would have been a better pick, considering the amount of opportunities/touches/minutes he should be getting this year in Utah. Don't get me wrong Griffin has got some amazing attributes, but it is slightly worrisome that his stats have decreased each year that he has been in the league (most good players are the opposite). Hopefully Doc Rivers can get him back on the right path, apparently he is already pushing Blake to use his athletism more effectively on the defensive end. If he can improve on that midrange jumper & FT%, this year could be the year that he reverses his downward decline (at least statistically speaking).

5.03 Jennings, Brandon - DET - PG
I'm still without a PG so I better grab one here. Jennings' injury is a bit scary and is the reason why he fell to this point, but better his tooth than say a knee. I obviously hate his FG%, but many players at this point will have their faults. He's great across the board elsewhere, save for blocks of course.

5.04 Lopez, Brook - BKN - C
I'd thought about drafting Lopez with my previous pick. When he made it back to this spot, I briefly considered Jeff Green or Kobe before deciding to go with Brook. The preseason reports on Brook have been fantastic, which is important since he had a screw replaced in his foot this summer. There is some injury risk involved with Brook, but that is why I'm getting him in the 5th round rather than the 3rd. Similarly the rotation is more crowded in Brooklyn this year, but Brook should still be able to put up 17-20 ppg, 6 boards, 2 blocks and great FG%, while shooting a decent percentage from the line.

I buy the idea that, without Millsap and Jefferson at Utah, Favors will put up big numbers. Last year he played only 23 mins a game. This year he should play 32 mins a game and will put up 14/10 with over 2 blocks. He has been working in the off season with Karl Malone and his FT shooting is expected to improve to 69%.

5.06 Beal, Bradley - WAS - SG
As I prepared for this pick, I was happy with my big man situation with the Gasol brothers so I was looking for some scoring and possibly another PG. However, I wasn't real crazy about any of the available PG's at this point in the draft, so I felt best available was the way to go with this pick. Beal has all kinds of breakout potential this season in his second year and already scored 30 on 12 of 19 shooting in a preseason game. I think he's over 50% FG% in preseason. For whatever reason I decided I just had to have him and that tommyd was surely going to take him with this next pick, so I offered him a deal I felt he couldn't refuse. Ultimately it cost me only two net pick spots (moving up one pick once and down one pick three times) but it did give him two extra chances to steal my guy. I just hope our teams go in radically different directions so I don't regret the trade, esp. after finding out he wasn't going to take Beal anyway. I think Washington's going to have a pretty dynamic backcourt and Beal should get a lot of good looks. He'll give me good 3's and scoring on good %'s so it felt like the right move here. Plus, it allowed me to meet all my position eligibility requirements in my first five picks to help me maintain position flexibility. I'm pretty excited about this pick as I've got a really talented young player with a ton of upside so this pick could turn out very well by season's end. He seems really grounded and motivated after rehabbing his injury that ended his rookie season so I look for strong growth from his rookie season.

5.07 Thompson, Klay - GSW - SG
Myself and PacersRule traded our picks here, so he picked ahead of me in this round while I pick ahead of him in the 6th and 8th. This was fine with me because I had two players that I was looking at: Thompson and Kobe. I almost went with Kobe because if he comes back and plays 70 games at close to top form he could win this for any team but the actual injury itself kind of scared me; I guess we`ll have to wait and see. Thompson is still young and should have room to improve. He gives me great 3 pointers, ft % and points. In retrospect I really like Pacers pick of Beal and think he will be a stud this year. I`m happy with Thompson though.

5.08 Valanciunas, Jonas - TOR - C
My biggest problem in writing this rationale is spelling Jonas' last name, so I'll refer to him as JV going forward.

Many sites list him as a breakout candidate, Bargnani is gone ( not that he was ever really there ) and the keys to the team bus are his. Over the final month or so last year, he averaged over 14 points, and 7 RB's, 1.7 blocks , all while shooting 63% from the floor and 84% from the FT line. JV reportedly bulked up and posted similar numbers on his way to MVP of the Vegas summer league.

If he can replicate the final month from last year in 2013-2014, I'll be thrilled

5.09 Bryant, Kobe - LAL - SG
Things are getting serious now. This will eiither be the best pick of the entire draft, or the biggest mistake.

I had Kobe last season, and he was quite simply, a machine. I'm taking a big risk that he can get back close to that level, and quickly. Realistically, if i can get 60 games from Kobe, this pick will just about validate itself. But i'm dreaming that i can get 70+. If that happens, Kobe will have to shoulder this makeshift squad of contract year candidates on his back.

I'm willing to take the risk. It's pick #59, for crying out loud, and Kobe is perennial 1st round material. I'm relying on the Mamba for one last Laker miracle.

5.10 Iguodala, Andre - GSW - SG
In every draft there comes a moment when your pick is coming up and you have a short list of guys that you really want and they are all gone right before you pick. While I didn't always get my guy in rounds 1 thru 4, I always got a short list guy. That changed here with the run on SG'S which is what I was hoping to land.

My top guy at I really really wanted this year was Bradley Beal. Pacers foiled that plan. My fall back plan was Thompson and I was even willing to go Bryant here. I almost went to email to offer up a trade of the pick. In the end I took Iggy.

After reviewing the next group of SG'S , Iggy was the most interesting. In golden state, Iggy will be playing with two good shooters in curry and Thompson. His drive and dish capabilities paired with these guys should make his assist totals go up and he has always had the ability to accumulate steals. The reason he was down a notch was his poor FT shooting. I will most likely use my next pick 6.03, on another SG'S that I liked as much as Iggy if he is still there.

5.11 Young, Thaddeus - PHI - SF
A value pick. Young can score, rebound, steal, shoot for FG%, and produce modest blocks. This year, he should have even more opportunities to shine, as the Sixers seem to be very lean on talent. The biggest issue is FT%. Hopefully, last year’s 57.4% was an aberration, as he was a career 70+% shooter before that.

5.12 Parsons, Chandler - HOU - SF
After 4 rounds I realized the lack of SF player, and felt my team will be weak in 3 pointers, so my plan was pick up players with threes support. There were some very good sharpshooter in the market, Parsons as SF, and some SG-s, Beal, Thompson and Kobe.

I am big Parsons fan, he can produce in every categoy and he is one of the best shooter from the 3 point line. Houston is a very good team, with Howard they will be in the playoffs. It's a good question, Howard's arrival how will affect th"e performance of the players."

I thought a lot before the next choice. I choose Green bacause I believe that the departure of Garnett and Pierce from Boston left a very good chance for Green to be a highranked palyer. 6.02 Lin, Jeremy - HOU - PG
My short list for this pick was Lin, Jeff Green, and Chandler Parsons. Graciously, Jasonprof made the choice for me.

Lin ranked #34 overall last year on the ESPN player rater. Admittedly, he’s got a different cast of characters this year that could change his numbers - and perhaps playing time – but that’s still a pretty good baseline to work from for pick #62. In the last two seasons, I’ve had trouble amassing assists, and this draft seems to be aggressively seeking PGs. Since I only have one true PG so far, I want to get another when the reach is reasonable.

6.03 Butler, Jimmy - CHI - SG
Pick 63 was my first gamble and it was a failure. With this pick, I wanted a BIG but I also didn't want to lose Butler between picks 64-81 like I lost Beal earlier. There were 6 bigs I was considering (McGee, Monroe, Drummond, pekovic, Kanter and Hawes ). Since most had BIGS already I chose Butler. When McGee went right after i had this bad feeling and then when Dave took Hawes just before me, the gamble officially bombed. Oh well, such is life in the draft.

To Butler, I am hoping he can score 12-14 a game, grab 5-6 boards and get 1.5 steals and 3's. He is SG/SF and he now has to perform so I don't look back at this moment in the draft with regret any more than I already do.

6.04 McGee, Javale - DEN - C
I was acutely aware here that the next wave of Cs and blocks were about to come off the board, so i felt it was a good time to select Javale. I've been burned by him before, but i am hoping things are different this time. Brin Shaw now runs the show, and the Nugs have been decimated with injuries and departures.

That should leave ample opportunity for McGee, who could at last reach the 30+ minute barrier. If that happens, i've probably got a challenger for Ibaka for the blocks title. Seriously Pierre, the time is now!

I'm a believer. I better be right, as i had a tough time passing on Oladipo, who Dave R, naturally, scooped up right after me.

6.05 Oladipo, Victor - ORL - SG
Another pick with a strange name.

I really struggled with this pick, I had hoped Parson was going to be there but no such luck. I had a couple others, higher in my queue but couldn't quite pull the trigger. I keep reading about Victor, his all around game, his exceptional D, but how his offense will be slow to come around. That being said check this out:

14+ ppg, 6.2 RB's, 4.4 Assists, 1.4 steal, 1 trey, nearly a block per game, and 45% from the field. That's what he's done in the preseason. Yeah, I know it's preseason, but reportedly, as long as he doesn't fall flat on his face, the Magic will give him all the playing time he can handle bouncing between PG and SG, sort of on the job training. The good news is TO's don't matter in this format.

Those numbers kind of remind me of Kirilenko in days gone bye. Maybe a reach at this point, but one that could pay big dividends.

6.06 Harris, Tobias - ORL - SF
This pick really came down to 2 players for me, Harris and Ilyasova. I went with Harris because he might provide me with a few more blocks and not quite as many 3's which I had addressed with my previous pick of Klay Thompson. Harris is only 21 and should get all the time he wants on a yound Magic team. His numbers after the trade from Milwaukee last year were impressive and I am hoping he can maintain and possibly improve on them. I was a little wary that Ilyasova has not played in the pre-season yet as well or he would have been my pick.

6.07 Ilyasova, Ersan - MIL - PF
I was elated to have nabbed Beal in round 5, but I didn't get my second PG yet so I was thinking PG here. I was seeing Ilyasova's name much higher on some lists, however, and he kept dropping. So I did some reading on him and really liked what I read. I decided the injury he has been dealing with here in preseason was not going to be long-term and probably was the reason he was dropping, so I could look at it as a positive in that sense...of keeping him available in case he was a good fit for my team. I see tommyd would have in fact taken him if not for that very fact. Because I really wanted a PG here, I strongly considered Calderon as I felt he was the next best available at this point. I sure hope I made the right decision. I stayed away mostly because I feel he's an injury risk and I just felt Ilyasova was younger and more of a sure thing. I really would have loved to have Calderon in the next round but I figured he wouldn't make it that far and sure enough he was gone two picks later. I think he would have been a decent pick here and would have gotten me a 2nd PG without having to reach too far to do it. Still I felt Ilyasova had a chance to well outperform this draft position and I wasn't sure that was as much the case for Calderon. I liked Ilyasova b/c he added to my 3's like a PG but also gets boards, and I was feeling not as desperate for assists due to my PG by committee approach. He also should score in the mid to upper teens and do so with good percentages. He doesn't blocks shots for a PF but in the sixth round you can't have everything, so I decided to take whom I felt was the best available player at this point in the draft.

I looked at Lowry briefly but decided against his .400 FG %. He didn't offer enough to make up for that. I thought Gmoney made some nice picks in the fifth and sixth round as I was considering Iguodala for this pick until Gmoney took him. I also really liked Butler for this draft but I thought he would be around longer.

6.08 Lowry, Kyle - TOR - PG
With Lowry I met my plan of picking three solid PGs. I also considered Calderon but I have been hurt by him in the past.

Lowry now has a clear path to be the starting PG in Toronto. Should be good for 7 assists, 12 points and some 3s and steals. FT% is poor but the rest of my team can carry this.

6.09 Calderon, Jose - DAL - PG
I looked at my first five picks and realized that I was really weak in 3PTM and somewhat weak in assist and boards. I couldn't fix all three of those in one pick, but decided that Calderon would significantly help in 2 of those categories while not hurting my team FG%. He just got a significant free agent deal from Dallas and should get all the minutes he can handle (unlike most years when he seems to be in a timeshare). Unforunately he is another fragile player, which my team seems to be full of this year. I'm guessing with all my injury risk I'll have to play about 15 guys this year to get all my games played in.

6.11 Monroe, Greg - DET - C
I was very happy to have found Monroe at pick #71. Over his career he has been a very nice fantasy contributer, contributing a little bit of everything. I suspect he fell down the draft boards due to the uncertainty of his role on his new look Pistons. I'm not sure if the front court tandem of J-Smith-Monroe-Drummond can co-exist, but with Monroe's versatility I believe that (in time) he could be a very effective high-post player. Monroe & J-Smith are solid and willing passers, so I could actually see this arrangement having the possibility of making some noise in the East this year. A lot will fall on the shoulders of Jennings and his ability to control the tempo and distribute the rock to his bigs for easy buckets.

I decided with about 5 picks until my turn that Drummond was the guy I wanted. The more I looked at what people were saying about him the less likely it seemed that he would last until my pick. He projects to low teens in points,10 boards, 2 blocks, and a steal a game to go along with a ridiculously high FG% which my team desperately needs. The terrible FT% is a drag but his other stats should more than make up for it.

After getting the center I wanted at 6.12 I looked around at what else was available but did not see anyone who jumped out at me. I needed another PG but hoped one of the 5 I considered would be there at my next pick. Pekovic should get me solid points and boards from the center spot with good percentages for the position.

I chose Orange Juice Mayonnaise with the 74th pick because of the opportunity he will have in Milwaukee to log heavy minutes and be the number one option on the offensive end. Going into this draft I knew I wanted to draft Hayward. I think he is going to provide at least top 30 value, but felt that he would continue to drop to this point. I figured it was unlikely that he would last until my next pick. Hayward will be one of the focal points of the offence in Utah this year. I expect he is going to put up at least 17ppg, 3 boards, 3 assists, 1.7 3PTM, close to one steal and 0.5 blocks while shooting about .430 from the floor and above .820 from the line.

26 years old and coming off a career year. I would expect to see more improvement with his offense as his confidence grows perhaps up to 13 pts. Should have no problem in averaging 10 rbs, 1 steal and 1.5 blocks. FT at 74% is good. Solid middle round draft pick.

I really wanted Drummond with this pick because it looks like blocks might be harder to come by as the draft goes on. Next I was hoping Mayo might fall because he could provide some needed assists and scoring and is in a great situation with the Bucks. Again it came down to 2 players for me and again Pacers took the other player I considered with his next pick. I went with Kanter because , IMO, there was a bigger drop off of big men in the next couple of rounds His PER averages last year were really good and he should play 30 plus minutes a game this year. I'm hoping for mid teens points, 50% plus FG%, 8-10rebounds per game and over a block.

After passing on Calderon last round, I decided I couldn't keep feeling sorry for myself that all the decent PG's seemed to be going a little before their time, b/c I had my chance with him and passed. Of course, there were no PG's I liked here, so I'll have to stay patient and hope there's someone I like next round. Maybe I can pick up some more assists from a non-PG and not fall completely behind. I'm also starting to wonder if I have been riding the coattails of the Gasol brothers too long b/c I haven't really addressed blocks in a while.

I considered Deng and Pierce with this pick, and decided against Deng in part b/c he seems a little unhappy there in Chitown and didn't get an extension. Butler will play a larger role in the offense this year and D. Rose will be dominating the ball so I felt Deng had too much risk this early. Though as a Pacers fan I don't care much for Pierce, I could not overlook his consistent production and multicategoricality. He gets about as many assists as George Hill from the SF position. His minutes should dip a little bit, but he's a strong personality and a proven leader and I'm confident he'll get his production even in this crowded Brooklyn talent pool. Boards, 3's, scoring, assists, a steal a game, and decent percentages. Everything but blocks basically. The more I think about this pick, the more I like it. Seems he really slipped this year and hopefully he doesn't give me any more reasons not to like him.

Maybe I can find a true PG or some blocks with the next pick.

7.08 Hawes, Spencer - PHI - C
I have a plan, I really do. As soon as I figure it out I'll let you know.

I have no idea what prompted me to take another " big ". I have Kevin Martin all queued up ( and a couple other "undrafteds" ), but I thought I would leave them for Swish. He took Martin.

Maybe it was the excitement of a NYG victory last night, or maybe reading that the 76er's #1 draft pick " undrafted " is unlikely to play this year.

There isn't much going on in Philly with the 76ers. If he's the only guy in the middle, he should get all the PT he can handle, which given past history might end up in time on the DL.

If healthy, I think I can expect around 13 points, 8 boards, 1.5 blocks, a few assists per game. Oh yeah, he can hit 3's as a C.

18 picks is a long time. I had hope to get another PG or C here, but all of my targets were taken on the way round. And yes, i would have taken Hawes, Dave!

Happy with KMart here, though. The Wolves will need someone outside of Love to score, and KMart should easily put up 17 points and 2+ 3s as a baseline. Combined with his outstanding get-to-the-line-ability, i think this is a good pick here.

But i still only have 1 point guard, and i'm getting pretty worried about that situation. Stick to your guns, Swish. Best player available...best player available...best player available...

7.10 Deng, Luol - CHI - SF
With my failed gamble of landing one of the Bigs I had hoped for I then returned to my "best player available". To make matters worse that player was Deng who represents my decision to take b2b SF's from the Chi Bulls.

I considered a number of players here including T Chandler and Gortat. However I felt Dengs consistency in a number of categories was too hard to pass compared to them and all the other guys coming off the board here. I expect him to help me with 1.5 3's, 6 boards, a steal, a couple assists and about 15 per game. All this while shooting .450 and .770 which isn't bad across the board at this point in the draft

7.11 Faried, Kenneth - DEN - PF
Was really hoping that one of Monroe, Pekovic, Amir Johnson, Kanter, or Hawes would have survived this far, but that was wishful thinking. I have only one PF or C so far (Ibaka), and I need to start filling in my frontcourt.

After a lot of scou"ring, I settled on Faried, who provides rebounding support with a smattering of hustle stats. One pundit noted that last season he was 1 of just 12 players to average 1+ steal and 1+ block per game, with most of those 12players being fantasy stars. ""Ranked #75 on the ESPN player rater last season, and room to advance at age 23. Not an exciting pick, but one that provides a decent fit with some potential for upside."

7.12 Smith, J.R. - NYK - SG
After six rounds my team was still weak in threes, so I wanted one more sharpshooter, with good value at other categories too. My first candidate was Hayward, but I didn't have any chance to get him, Florian nabbed him 7 picks earlier, so I parked ne"xt to Smith. Smith is good enough for me with almost two three pointers a game, I had only problem with his FG%, and of course to see him in the court only in the Knicks sixth game of the season."

8.01 Boozer, Carlos - CHI - PF
In the 8th round I wanted a center, especially Hawes as best available one, in my opinion. After SANFORDORS's pick I went with Boozer. He is one of my favorite players, when he is on the court. Unfortunately he is often injured, so last years I tried to avoid him. But now I decided to pick him up. He is a rebound machine with enough assists. If Noah vill miss some time, Boozer will be better.

8.02 Chandler, Tyson - NYK - C
My short list for this pick was Chandler and Boozer, and I hoped that Jasonprof would’t go big-big at the turn. He didn’t.

Chandler is a sold double-double producer who shoots a high FG%, and blocks about 1 per game. FT% is not great, but not a significant drag (70%-ish). Biggest downside risk is health, as he’s now 31 and missed 15-20 games in each of the last two seasons. Even with the downtime, he ranked #86 on the ESPN player rater last year in total stats, so when he is playing, he must be prodicuing good per-game value for this pick.

At this point the good Cs are gone and I am just hoping to land a guy who won't hurt the other categories and can help with blocks. Guru was also a little light in Cs and I was hoping he wouldn't take both Chandler and Gortat with his two picks before me. Fortunately he only took Chandler.

Gortat went higher in the draft in the past but injuries have hurt his production. When healthy I am hoping he can give me about 12 pts, 9 boards a game and block about 90 shots for the season.

Is this serious? Am i going to ignore a PG yet again? Looks like it.

I cannot ignore Evan Turner at this point. Despite being a disappointment since being drafted, he tooked some decent strides last year, and i'm pinning my hopes on his improved physique, aggressiveness and point-blank dearth of talent in Philly to amount to something of significance. And i'm comforted a wee bit by the fact i'll be getting 4+ assists out of him.

8.05 Felton, Raymond - NYK - PG
Once again Swish stole my pick. I had Evan Turner locked and loaded, and figured for sure Swish would go in another direction. Wrong.

After reassessing, I felt my weak points were assists and steals. Felton seems to fit the bill.

Raymond is not the man in NY, it's Melo's team, and as long as Melo is healthy, most of everything flows though him. Even so, Felton still managed to put up decent stats last year, averaging 13.9 ppg, 5.5 assists, and 1.4 treys and steals, plus hitting 80% f"rom the charity stripe. Just what the doctor ordered.

He's been relatively durable with the exception of one year, and averaged 34 mpg last year, and there seems no one lurking to steal playing time.

Felton's weakness is FG%, which means" he will fit right in with the rest of my team.

I really wanted to get a third quality starting PG here, and I would have taken Felton or Turner if they were available. ESPN has Reke ranked 56, for what it's worth, and if he can match his numbers from last year I'll be happy (15 ppg, 4 rb, 4 apg, 1.4 steals and decent %'s.

8.07 Vasquez, Greivis - SAC - PG
I decided it was high time to finally pick up a second point guard, but I couldn't decide which one. Seems there is some doubt on most guys at this point in the draft, and I had the hardest time with this pick. I had Nash queued up since the round before and was stoked when he was still available, but in my due diligence before clicking the final “draft him” button, I just got cold feet. I covered why in the main discussion page.

Passing on Nash took me to either Vasquez or Isaiah Thomas and I almost couldn't decide. Ultimately, I was swayed by the fact that Sacramento already had Thomas and they went and brought in another PG so I felt they lacked confidence in Thomas. Vasquez is playing his way back from an ankle so we can't really see what he's going to do, but I'm hoping for at least 7 assists a game.

Several times I almost bailed on a PG here and went with Zach Randolph. I figured he would get me points and boards with decent if not great percentages and would be a relatively “safe” pick at this point in the draft. However, I felt I might need a PG worse than a safe points & boards guy, so I went for it. It may not have been the strongest pick, but hopefully it won't be a total bust.

I also considered Varejao here but I felt the injury risk was just too high, esp. with him being quoted that he's only about “70%” healthy going into the season. Woo Hoo. Team Naptown is a 2 PG team.

"With 3 quality PGs and plenty of big men to meet my assists and RB targets I now need to fill up on SF/SGs.Green will give me plenty of 3s to go along with Curry's contribution. Steals and %s will be good. Minutes should increase from last year as G"inobili's minutes continue to decrease.

I actually considered Nash two rounds ago instead of Calderon, but his age and injury risk kept me away. Two rounds later the risks seem worth it. He'll probably only play 28-32 minutes per game and will hopefully make it through 65-70 games. In that time I'm expecting 12 ppg, 7 assist, 1 3PTM and his usual great percentages in field goal and free throws.

Quality centers are waning and I was pleasantly surprised to see Randolph eligible at the position. I have 2 centers to this point, but I'll gladly take a 3rd especially if the pick isn't a reach. I needed one more PG with the uncertainty of Rondos' return. Knight is still young and should get plenty of burn for the Bucks. Looking for 15 points,5 dimes, and 1.5 threes per game. He is a good rebounder for a guard so that is a plus. IF he can up his FG% and steal totals just a bit then this will be a good value pick.

I really needed a SG with this pick. I was hoping Tyreke Evans or Evan Turner would fall to me but no such luck. There seemed to be a pretty steep drop to the next tier of guys so against my better judgement I took the injury prone Gordon. Not much to say as everyone knows what he can do its just a matter of him staying on the court. If I can get 60 games of normal production I will consider this pick a win.

I believe that Jameer is somewhat of a slept on fantasy player. I picked him up for his 3pt FG's & assists. His FG% (an atrocious 38% last year) was almost enough to scare me away (especially considering I picked up fellow accuracy-challenged Rubio earlier in the draft), but I decided to pull the trigger and hope that some of my top-notch FG% guys can offset the bricks thrown by these two guys. I also hope that Jameer comes out of the gate with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove after being in constant trade rumors and talks of rookies starting over him at the PG spot that he has held down for the past decade.

Garnett's numbers will be down a little from last year and he'll probably only play in 65-70 games. However he'll still get 13ppg, 7.5 boards, 1 steal, 1 blocks, shoot 50% from the field and 80% from the line. Those are quite good numbers for a third center picked in the 9th round.

I was not planning to pick up another C here but I couldn't resist the gamble. I cannot believe that Bynum will stay healthy and if Varejao plays like he did at the start of last season he will be a steal. However Varejao is also prone to injury so this may not be a great decision but probably worth a 9th round pick.

In retrospect I really should have taken a PG here. I went with what I feel was the BPA for my team and I thought one of Trey Burke, Isiah Thomas, Beverly or Reggie Jackson would be available at my next pick, but of course they were gone. Johnson puts up a similar stat line to my previous pick of Evans but I was a lttle short at SG/SF anyways. Yes Brooklyn is a lot deeper this year but Joe will still get his shots and hopefully the improved roster will improve his looks. I'm expecting similar stats to last year with scoring down but efficiency up.

9.07 Lopez, Robin - POR - C
At this point I decide I need a big who blocks shots who doesn't decimate my FT%. Lopez has been kind of a quiet player but for some reason, I really like his situation up in Portland. He's doing well in the preseason and seems to have established himself in his new organization. If his minutes go up, I think he could approach 2 blocks a game. Scoring and rebounding could follow as well. There is concern that Aldridge may miss more time than usual this season which would only help Lopez's minutes. I am cautiously optimistic that Lopez will put some things together this season playing with a dynamic young backcourt and I figured I could do a lot worse for a #3 center.

9.08 Chandler, Wilson - DEN - SF
As it neared my time to pick, I realized I didn't have a SF on my roster. We need one in this format. I almost decided to wait and take Reggie Jackson ( I just knew Swish had his eye on him ) or Cody Zeller, but I've had Wilson on my mind for a bit.

I've been reading that "undrafted" is due back in December, or January, or even February. I'm banking on later rather than sooner. Of course this is a huge risk from that standpoint plus Wilson has yet to appear in a preseason game due to a sore hammy. Think I'd recognize a red flag if I saw one?

Two years ago Wilson averaged 16.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 0.8 steals, 1.4 blocks and 1.7 3-pointers with the New York Knicks, with a decent FG% and 80% from the line.

That's solid, and I'm hopeful.

Having secured what I thot was my second center in Gortat it was time to focus on my weak spots which is rebounding and blocks. I think we all know Jordan has been a monster in blocks in preseason and we all know he shoots FT's as bad or worse than Howard. How much I play him will depend on how the rest of my starters are hitting their FT. I actually tried to focus on that area earlier knowing I wanted Jordan on my roster. This looks like a possible breakout year for him.

Not much other than a scorer, but probably the most prodigious scorer left on the board. In fact, one set of projections that I’m looking at shows him averaging 3 PPG more than anyone still available in the draft. Last year, ranked 74th on the ESPN player rater. So while he doesn’t excel at other than scoring (and FT%), he seems like the best value here. His SG/SF positional flexibility may also come in handy.

With both Gay and DeRozan on my roster this year, I guess I’m hoping the Raptors run and gun this year!

After Green, Smith and Boozer I saw the time to get some fresh blood. I was satisfied, because the other managers didn't reach to my candidates.

Carter-Williams will have a fantastic season, he will show there is life after Holiday. I needed a third PG, who will spent a lot of time on the court and dishies the ball well. His abilities are very good, I will have only "little" problems with him percentages.

My short list for this pick was Shawn Marion and Splitter, and once again Jasonprof failed to make the selection for me. I have them both ranked very closely overall. In the end, I opted to go with youth (Splitter is 28). Splitter played all 81 games last year, while Marion has missed about 20% over the last two years. As a starter last year, Splitter averaged 11 pts and 7 rebounds, and as the starter from opening day this year, could show modest improvement. He also shot 73% from the line last year, so he won’t do much harm to that cat.

I don't need the Bynum of old (hard to remember who that actually is now) for this to be a value pick, and i feel like the risk/reward balance here is about right.

I really didn't want to draft someone who starts the season injured, but Trey was by far the highest ranked player available on any lists I use. He's expected to be sidelined 4-6 week which means he will miss the first month.

Originally penned in as the starting PG in Utah, I see no reason for that to change when he's healthy. At least that's what I'm banking on.

Burke is considered one of the front runners for ROY, with projections of 16 ppp, 3+ boards, 6.5 assists, 1.4 steals and nearly 2 threes a game. Those are numbers I'd be thrilled with, for say 65 games or so.

Well this is kind of an insurance pick. I was a little surprised to see him still around but maybe folks are feeling a little more relaxed about their PG situations now. He's no uber-stud but he get some steals and assists and 3's and if my #2 PG doesn't work out so well, that should bode well for IT2. Even if he comes off the bench as I expect, he's got a chance to push 30 minutes and hopefully that's enough time for him to earn his draft spot.

At this point I felt like I really needed to get another PG to help with my assists. When my 4 top choices went in the last round I had to scramble to find an altenative and Jack was the best option. He might start at SG and even if he comes off the bench he should see a nice amount of minutes because he can play the point and the off guard, similar to his role in Golden State last year. It's also a nice insurance in case Irving gets hurt.

Asik is a worker who adds rebounds, solid FG%, and a block to the squad. He made huge strides in his third season and while Dwight might snag a few of those boards away from Omer, he still should be the second big to get minutes on the team. Also, word on the street is that if the tandem of Dwight & Asik doesn't work the Rockets will look to move Omer to another team for someone more complementary to Howard (like a stretch-four type; ala Ryan Anderson). If this were to occur, there is a high probability that Asik would go back to being a starting center (his natural position) and his numbers could see a boost.

But it is the 11th round and my team is terrible in 3 point shooting. Crawford makes a lot of 3 pointers. He contributes in team free throw percentage by shooting close to 4 per game at very high percentage, gets a steal per game and scores a lot. He has a clear role with the Clippers. He may lose a minute or two per game with the addition of Redick, but his numbers should be similar to last year.

11.06 Morris, Markieff - PHO - PF
So keeping with the theme to the second 1/2 of my draft I had Bogut at the top of my que and CC sniped him just before this pick. Morris was the next player there and I stuck with that. Phoenix is in the Wiggins sweepstakes this year and I expect them to give their young players lots of run, Makieff included. Quoting ESPN last April he averaged 11.8ppg, 6.9 rb, 1.4 steals, 1.5 blocks and 1.6 3's per game. Anything close to that and I'm a happy man.

11.07 Dalembert, Samuel - DAL - C
Taking a very 'by feel' approach to this draft and not accumulating any totaled projections, I'm still paranoid that I'm going to fall short in blocks and boards. I've been addressing my PG/small man stats the last several picks (well except for Lopez I guess) and felt I better try to find another shot blocker rebounder to round out my roster. As I went down lists, I was shocked to find out how few guys with decent projections were left. This made me all the more sure it was time to find a fourth center. I considered some young guys in backup roles with chances to emerge, including Tristan Thompson who was taken ahead of me, but in the end with other injuries there among Dallas bigs, I felt Sammy D had the best chance to contribute consistently in both blocks and boards. He doesn't kill you on the percentages either. He won't win this thing for me by any stretch and probably is not primed for a Tyson Chandler like bounceback, but he should help me compete in the battle of the bigs.

11.08 Kidd-Gilchrist, Michael - CHA - SF
This is a leap of faith that MKG can develop some sort of offensive game. He seems locked in as starting SF and I'm hoping for some sort of improvement. Surprisingly despite being regarded as a poor shooter he still hit 46% from the floor and 75% from the line.

Hustle stats are what I was looking for here, MKG should grab 8 boards, and 1 block and steal per game. Not off the chart numbers but a reasonable return in round 11

I've been trying hard to stick to best player available, but it's now round 11 and i only have 3 healthy PF and C eligibles if you discount Bynum. I guess you call Nene a 'safe' pick at this slot, but i still like it. Before the Gortat trade, he was slated to start at C, but now he'll slide over to the starting PF slot. Either way, 12 and 7 with a block and steal and good %s works for me at this point

When I think Mario Chalmers my first thot is blah. However as I continue my focus on weak areas, Chalmers can help with 1.5 steals and another weak areas, 3's. He averaged 1.6 there and my squad can use that.

11.11 Redick, J.J. - LAC - SG
My short list was Chalmers and Redick. Gmoney graciously made the final decision for me.

He’s been in the league for 7 years, but I don’t ever recall rostering Redick, let alone drafting him. Now on the Clippers, where he may be called upon to score less – or where he might get more scoring opportunities because the defense will need to pay more attention to a better cast of teammates. Last year, he ranked #76 on the ESPN player rater, so that provides a good base, even if his minutes decline a bit.

He missed most of the preseason with a quad contusion, but did play 20 minutes last night, so I assume he’s good to go. Should be a good source of treys and scoring, with a great FT% and a FG% that is OK for a guy who hoists a lot of 3s.

11.12 Porter, Otto - WAS - SF
The freshment is go on. Porter would be a solid fit for the Wizards. He is the local kid with the high basketball IQ that would plug a hole at small forward. He fits in nicely with John Wall and Bradley Beal with his ability to get to the basket and hit jumpers. He is shooting 42.2 percent from beyond the arc and made 77.2 percent from the line, as well. Porter could make a big impact in his rookie season in Washington and in Jasonprof Team too.

12.01 Anderson, James - PHI - SG
This year could be Anderson's breakout season, he is a serious sleeper candidate at shooting guard right now. He finishes the preseason averaging nearly 14 points, three rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.5 3-pointers on 51 percent shooting. I know, he need to take over J. Richardson, so he is a risky pick, but I like his preseason producing and want to go with him.

12.02 Kaman, Chris - LAL - C
This is mostly a gamble on Kaman staying healthy enough to play 60-70 games this year. Probably not a good gamble, as he’s topped 60 games only twice in the past six years. Preseason maladies include a stomach virus and an injured finger while tobogganing at the Great Wall of China – neither of which sound chronic. If/when healthy, I could get 7 boards and 11-12 ppg. Hopefully, I’ll have other viable starting options for those times when Kaman is offline.

I thought about Hickson as an option, especially since I already have Faried. Interesting that Hickson was the next one to drop.

12.03 Hickson, JJ - DEN - PF
As this pick approach I had recently addressed steals and 3's so it was now time to look at rebounds. Hickson was not on my short list because he went from Port to Den and McGee and Faried are there. However he was starting most of the preseason at PF, had over 800 rebounds last year and news had surfaced that Den may be shopping Faried. That gave me enough confidence to invest a 12th round pick on a need area.

Starting to feel slightly happier with my bigs now. Henson tucks in nicely behind Sanders and Ilyasova, and performed well enough last season to have earned an expanded role. Per 36s of 16.5 pts, 12.9 rebs and 1.8 blocks encourage me to think i've made a good choice here if Henson can carve out 25+ mins.

12.05 Kirilenko, Andrei - BKN - PF
I had a few players under consideration at this point, Bennett, Olynyk, Waiters, Butler and Kiri. After I picked Kiri, all 4 went in the next 5 picks, which meant my queue was solid or I made a mistake with Kirilenko.

Andrei isn't the player he once was and always seems to battling some sort of nagging injury. He's in a reserve role now, on a talented and deep Nets team, and I don't expect him to average more than 26-28 min per, but I doubt Prokhorov would have signed his countyman to sit on the bench.

Kiri has a unique ability to record at least a block and steal per game. Add in 10 or so points and 6 boards, decent %'s and I think he's a solid choice in round 12.

Plus I couldn't allow Florian to grab all the seasoned vets.

12.06 Bennett, Anthony - CLE - PF
News had just broken that Granger was going to miss the rest of the preseason, so I decided he would keep dropping, and I wasn't sure I still wanted him either. Looking around at available bigs, I felt Anthony had upside and will get opportunities there in Cleveland. I think their starters are too injury prone and he will get minutes. Obviously they will want to develop him so Hopefully this pick works out over the course of the season. I felt I still needed rebounding. He's nice b/c he will provide some 3's.

Blah,, blah, blah yes I was going to take Bennett; no such luck. Went with the next best Canadian. Similar to my last pick Kelly O is going to get lots of burn on Lottery pick team. I think he good enough to figure it out, he's not going to block shots but he should score, good fg % and decent rebounds. Waiters was probably the best player avaailable but didn't really meet my needs.

12.09 Wallace, Gerald - BOS - SF
Wallace was terrible last year in New Jersey. My plan was to avoid Wallace on draft day as it is seems unlikely he will have a bounce back season. He has relied on his athleticism to get by and at age 31 that is not going to improve. However it seems that Green is now going to start at shooting guard and Wallace will actually start at small forward. Wallace best years have been on very bad teams. Boston is going to be very bad this year. Wallace's main strength is steals. My fantasy team needs help in steals. I decided that at the end of the 12th round it was worth drafting Wallace to see if he has anything left.

Around this point of the draft I look at potential starting lineups and see who stands out for value. Butler was a reserve for the Clippers last year, but will start for the Bucks now and is expected to be one of their go-to guys. Once a fantasy stud, Butler is definitely no longer on that level, but can chip in across the board when given the minutes.

12.11 Barnes, Harrison - GSW - SF
Barnes made me a believer in last years playoffs. On the biggest stage of his young career, playing in place of starting PF David Lee, Harrison stepped up and looked like he belonged in the spotlight. He looks like he could be a future DTA (Defense-Three's-Athletecism) All-Star. More and more coaches are looking for these DTA guys for the wing position because they help spread the floor, they can fill the passing lanes on the break, and they won't give up anything on the defensive end. These are fill-in guys that you don't have to run plays for, but will compliment almost all types of players. As more teams are moving to the stretch-four (rather than the more traditional post-four), players like Barnes value increase. Another reason I like this is pick is the fact that Bogut and Lee have struggled with staying healthy over the past few years and if either goes down Barnes is the favorite to slide from that 6th man spot to starting PF.

I like this pick a lot. All of the local Boston writers are expecting Sully to take a big leap this year in both minutes and production. If I can get something along the lines of 12 points and 8 boards a game with good big man percentages then he will be worth this pick.

I really considered Averly Bradley here but have a feeling Rondo is coming back sooner than later but who knows.

13.07 Granger, Danny - IND - SF
I was considering a bunch of guys with this pick who ended up going before me - Gerald Wallace, Harrison Barnes, even Nick Young - and a few who went after me - Taj Gibson, Jason Thompson - but in the end I decided it was time to pick up Granger if I really wanted to make sure I got him. None of the other guys here came without risk or with guarantees, and I really do believe Granger is going to get around 65 to 70 games this year at around 30 minutes, and he has looked good at times in preseason action, so I could see him returning for something like 14 points, 5 reb, 2 ast, 1.5 threes, 1 steal, 0.7 blocks and good FT% off the Indiana bench. Yeah, it's a bit of a homer pick I suppose, but it's also entirely possible he returns 8th round value or something this year.

Another elder statesman to mentor some of the younger players on team SANFORDORS. Most likely the Mav's 6th man, I don't look for VC to get much more than 25 minutes per game. In a similar role last year he averaged 13.4 points, 4 boards, a steal and" 2 treys per game. I almost took Taj Gibson here who has PT limitations of his own.

Nothing sexy about this pick, Carter should give me this year just about what he did last year"

New scenery, same old Mo. Backing up Lillard and Matthews in Portland, should earn Mo his usual 25-30 mins. That should be good enough to secure his usual 11 and 5 assists. I've gambled quite a bit on the injury bug and upside, so it's quite a relief to have a solid veteran as my 3rd PG. I actually considered Mo with my round 11 and 12 picks, so pretty pleased to get him here.

Taj is one of those guys I have watched in the box score for a few years. He rarely gets 20 minutes but he has been fairly productive when he plays. Noah is often injured and this preseason has been no exception. Not only that, Boozer is getting old. I decided my 13th pick would be used on Gibson and while I don't wish that Noah is hurt, I will be ready to capitalize with my 4th Bull of the draft shud the opportunity present itself

I think I’d have taken Vince Carter if he had still been available. Once he disappeared, I put Taj Gibson at the top of my queue. Missed again. I expect this in the earlier rounds, but not so much in round 13. Ah well…

I don’t know what to expect from Bradley, other than that he’ll start at PG for Boston until Rondo returns. I don’t know what to expect from Boston, except that they’ll struggle to win games. I don’t know when Rondo will return. Early reports are sometime in December, but he says he doesn’t want to return until he’s ready to go full out. Remember Derrick Rose? I do – because he languished on my bench for the entire season last year. I think I’ll take the gamble in the other direction this year.

Unbelievable. I had just decided to pick Lamb, and then I see he was snatched right out from under me.

So I went back to the drawing board. Jason Thompson lacks the potential upside of someone like Lamb, but should be able to come off my bench if I need some rebounding without getting killed in scoring. With the loss of Carl Landry for most of the season, he should get similar minutes to last year, when he ranked #124 on the ESPN player rater.

Still bummed about missing out on Lamb – even though I know there’s a good chance that Lamb will be of little value.

This pick was purely a "preseason" performance pick. Collison is new to LAC this year so it is unclear how many minutes he will see when Paul is healthy. My guess is 10-15 per night for now which will keep him on the bench for me. However, in the event that he starts to see 18-22, I think he can produce in scoring assists and steals to get a utility spot. If not, he could be cut for a pick up later.

So, the interesting thing about the RIHC draft is that the final rounds seem to fall right on my wedding anniversary. Last year, I didn't make my final pick as i was actually getting married at the time. This time, I was away in a remote wee village called Kirkmichael. Beautiful place, great time with the family. No wifi and uber-dodgy phone signal, though.

During a fleeting moment of signal, i saw on a partially loaded Rotoworld player news page that Gortat had been traded and Len would be the primary beneficiary. Of course, it now looks like Miles Plumlee that landed that gig, so I feel a bit cheated in that regard, but I didn't know about that at the time and pulled the trigger.

Well, I say I pulled the trigger; it took me almost an hour of reloading Draftime before I managed to get the player search page to load and make the selection. My wife wasn't best pleased about that, so this selection better be worth it!

Frye has played remarkably well this preseason. After missing a year with heart issues, he has been cleared to resume his career. Now 30, he is the elder statesman on an you and rebuilding Suns teams. Who knows, he might even be traded away.

Going back to his last three years of play, Channing averaged around 12 points, 2 threes and a block per game. His FG% is suspect, but his FT% exceptionable which means he should fit right in with the rest of my team.

This could be a wasted pick, but time will tell

I would have liked to pick Len here, especially now with the Gortat trade he would have been good value. Ok I'm sure I'll get the homer tag for this pick, but I really think his game has continued to mature each year and he may finish higher than Granger on the year, so that is how I rationalized taking him next. His FT% is poor and I hope he can improve that, but his FG% is really nice for a SG, primarily b/c he gets so many of his points on the break as he is a load to cover in the open court. He rebounds it well for a guard, should average in double figures scoring, and gets some assists and hustle stats even if he's not a three shooter. He'll get starters minutes this season no matter what happens with Granger.

15.06 Ridnour, Luke - MIL - PG
Ridnour can produce some decent #'s if he's given a chance to play and has had some nice pre-season games. I'm not sold on Brandon Knight but Milwaukee is in Wiggins mode so even if he sucks they will still play him. Hoping for some assists and a steal a game with a chance to move into a starting role.

15.07 Caldwell-Pope, Kentavious - DET - SG
I often don't go for rookies, esp. not projected to start, but we're in the fifteenth round here and I am mostly looking for upside b/c I don't see too many players out there with stat profiles I like (percentages in particular) or who are guaranteed to be productive. He's been getting a ton of run in the preseason and his coach likes his defensive moxy. Cheeks seems to feel he's got more poise than the typical rookie. Hopefully once the other guards on the roster are healthy, he still gets some opportunities and works his way into useful stats sooner rather than later.

15.08 Motiejunas, Donatas - HOU - PF
I feel like I'm throwing darts at this point, but in the next to last round, at least I found someone who should start for Houston. In reading reports, it seems the Rockets attempt to pair Howard and Asik was less than a success and supposedly leaving Donatas as the starter at the PF slot.

Not sure what the upside is here other than 10 points and a 3 per game, but in round 15 what can you expect. I would have taken Plumlee after the Gortat trade was announced but as usual Coldwater jumped on that news. I gave consideration to Faverani here, but he's no lock to start, and I doubt his stats will be much different than my guy.

15.09 Faverani, Vitor - BOS - C
I've read some chat that Fav could be dark horse for ROY. He has loads of experience from playing in Europe, and is a big man in the true sense - something that is desperately lacking on the Celtics roster. His 6 block game also helped persuade that he could be worth a punt at this point.

15.10 Mullens, Byron - LAC - C
The news had just broke that Gortat was traded and Plumlee was the new starting center in Pho. Unfortunately there were 5 picks in front of me. Mullens started hot last year and has been shooting a lot of 3's. Being weak in this category and thinking he could get 18-20 backing up both griffin and Jordan it seemed reasonable to add my 3rd Clipper. With my 15th pick I welcome BM to the Chicago Clippers

15.11 Blatche, Andray - BKN - C
Last year, got 10 pts and 5 rebs in just 19 minutes per game. May not get more time this year with the extra players in Brooklyn, but even with similar time, those numbers don’t suck.

15.12 Dudley, Jared - LAC - SG
I wanted somebody who will have minutes on the court and could produce. Dudley is expected to be the Clippers' starting small forward this season, so I chose him. Unfortunatelly he will lose plenty of minutes to Matt Barnes, but can help the team in threes and will do everything a bit.

I think Gallinari is not a bad choice in the last round..or is it. If he will be healthy later the year he will be a strong member of my team. Until I had to be patient.

Sentimental favorite. And who knows, maybe I’ll need some 3s at some point.

16.03 Bayless, Jerryd - MEM - PG
I got nothing. it is the 16th round and I am ready for this draft to be over so I picked Bayless to be done. Hopefully my other 12-15 picks make this pick a non issue.

16.04 Green, Gerald - PHO - SG
Crapshoot time. I have no idea if Green will continue his strong preseason, but i need a shot of 3s and the waiver wire is calling if he doesn't hit the ground running.

But more than that, i'll be happy to see a couple of highlight reel dunks from him before he is inevitably dispatched from my squad after his first dud.

16.05 Davis, Ed - MEM - PF
I really wanted Gallo with this pick but he went a couple selections earlier. Last pick, one we wouldn't even have had last year. Davis probably won't get meaningful minutes behind Randolph, but who knows.

Pre the Rudy Gay trade Ed appeared to be primed for a breakout season. In 23 games as a starter he averaged 13 points, 8 boards, and a block per game, shooting 55% from the floor. Given a shot, the potential is there and in round 16 I can't expect much else.

Maybe he becomes waiver fodder, maybe Zach gets traded, or, keep in mind he is just one year removed from only playing 28 games.

16.06 Robinson, Thomas - POR - PF
Scraping bottom of the barrel here for me. This fellow may well be my first waiver wire casualty, and it would probably take an injury for him to see productive minutes in Portland. Aldridge is not fully healthy and he may miss some time. If so, Robinson may be a useful spot start.

16.07 Ross, Terrence - TOR - SG
I was all set to pick Ed Davis here as I figured no one else would be eyeing him but surprise, he was taken. I am a Raptors fan ( I know pray for me) and I really like to have at least one on the roster. Ross has been given the green light in the pre-season and has been shooting well. He won't give me much outside of points and three's but hey it's round 16 I could have drafted Jordan hoping for the comeback and it would have been a good pick.

16.08 Farmar, Jordan - LAL - PG
Played in Turkey last year. Along with Steve Blake he backs up Steve Nash. If Nash goes down Farmar could produce some good stats. He will probably stay on my bench until a more sexy free agent appears.

16.09 Blake, Steve - LAL - PG
Blake has been starting at shooting guard the last few preseason games. Hopefully he will continue to start until Kobe returns, which likely is still weeks away. He should be good for some assists and a bunch of 3PTM. After Kobe returns Blake is Steve Nash's backup. I'm hoping that he won't be needed because Nash misses minimal time this year, but that is not realistic.

16.10 Taylor, Jeff - CHA - SF
Taylor is having a strong preseason and he might have put himself in a position to start over MKG. Save for defensive specialists, mostly anyone can be productive if the minutes are there.

Blocks. I chose this guy for blocks. He's swatted 1.8 shots in each of the past two seasons. It's also a nice bonus that he had a couple 20-rebound games in the preseason. Did I mention blocks?

16.12 Sessions, Ramon - CHA - 0
I can't believe how happy I am with a 16th round pick. I had Ramon queued up since my last selection and though no way he would survive all the way until the end of the draft. He has been fantasy gold for years when given good minutes so if injuries strike in Charlotte this could be a very good pick.
