Subject: Gurupie 20 - 2013 Regular Season Discussion

  Posted by: Species - [57862918] Fri, Oct 25, 2013, 21:02

Welcome to another fun-filled G20 Hoops season! Great One is the reigning champ, so it's time to put him in his place.

The draft went off quite well. Thanks to just about everyone (read: NOT Pete! hahahaha) for a highly efficient draft. Thanks to Tosh and Guru for their help in picking up players.

Good luck to you all!!

From the G20 Hoops Treasurer:

Prize pool dues for 2013-14 will again be $15. Your payment is due by the end of October. If you do not pay by then, I reserve the right to hound you privately and ridicule you publicly!

Two members have permanently opted out of the prize pool: Perm Dude and Pistol Pete. There is no trophy pool assessment this year, as the trophy fund is still adequate for this year.

The other 18 returning managers are in the pool, and expected to contribute each year.

The following 6 members already have sufficient funds on account - either from last year, or from G20 baseball - to pay the full amount, and therefore owe nothing this year:

Beastiemiked
Meatwads
Great One
Skinneej
KnicksFan
Species

Toral – owes only $12, as he has $3 on acct from baseball

Everyone else owes the full $15.

You may send your payment in one of two ways:

1. Mail a check for $15. Address will be provided on request.

The check should be payable to Dave Hall.

2. Paypal

Send to davehall@rotoguru2.com. Designate your payment as Personal-Payment owed. If you include a note, just say "G20 payment".

Tim Duncan (and Rudy Gay to a lesser extent) are available to anyone with aspirations of winning this year.

As usual, I'm interested in young players with keeper upside and/or draft pick upgrades. If the past couple seasons are any indication, these are going to be the best players made available to contenders this season. Plus you can have them all season instead of just the last month or two. Send me an email if you're interested.

I sent out a "courtesy reminder" to six managers who had not yet paid. Figure I'd give a day or two for responses before resorting to that.

At this point, five of those six have paid (or have said the check's in the mail). All except for dpr.

I've got a few trade talks going, but just FYI I've got Tyreke Evans available for a draft pick and possibly paired with a mid level veteran non-keeper type.

With Gay in the fold I won't be keeping 2 Pelicans (keeping Jrue). Tyreke just turned 24 years old FYI despite feeling like he's been around a while.

James harden...foot injury
Brandon Knight...foot injury
Ryan Anderson...foot injury
Deron Williams...foot injury

Thad Young...all American bad ass...but still not on his game yet

Evan Turner...only way he could be a bigger fantasy baller is if he changed his first name to Randy!

I think I'm going to rename this team to "Rex Ryan's foot fetish fantasy"

Wow, just when I thought Bynum was toast and was going to have to finally admit PD got the better of me on that David Lee trade, he puts up a 20 and 10 game with 5 blocks. Of course, he did it from my bench. I figured against Noah and Chicago, he wouldn't do anything. I hope that's a sign of things to come.

Pretty soon I'll be out of the running for the #1 pick and good old Dante Exum.

The amount of young stud talent is sickening:

Joakim Noah
Paul George
Derrick Favors
Anthony Davis
Derrick Rose
Jeff Teague

Sick, sick, sick. Then his redraft was masterful too.

Did I see Bynum had 9 ORebs vs. Atlanta? A Pulse indeed. Come on big man, be a bad man again. I can't believe I'm still hanging around the top few teams depending on the night. My squad is really not that good. Everyone quite sandbagging. McLemore hacks me off. Scores 20 on my bench so I start him and he scores 3. But I didn't draft him to be productive now so I guess I should remember that and keep him on my bench.

A nice month hotstreak later, I find myself behind the team that landed Duncan.....and regretting my cheapskateedness!! Doh!!

So, speaking of Russell Westbrook -- I suppose I would be doing myself a disservice if I did not at least entertain trade discussions for him.

Trade proposals should focus on value to push me towards this year's title, with some small semblance of keeper value as well. Think the Giancarlo Stanton trade in G20 Baseball that guaranteed blue hen a championship...... (hahahaha....ooops)

KF added Jerryd Bayless, Bos from FA to BE

BMD dropped Jerryd Bayless, Bos to FA

I don't know what to do with JR Smith. Neither do the Knicks, it seems. He's one of the few guys in the league that you wouldn't be surprised to see him with 20 points, or 8 points, after a game.

He does have some upside with his scoring ability, and treys, if he gets consistent minutes, and so if someone wants to stash him then make me any kind of offer.

Dear PeteN, please trade Asik to RSF. Thanks! ;)

OK. I've been thinking about the Greek Freek and comps to him. Early writer comps were Durant, which is insane. I was thinking more AK47 for his all-around game. Then it hit me. Its KG. Long, lanky, young guys coming into the league (KG from High School, Giannis from low level Greek league). I don't know if Giannis' offensive skillset matches KG's, but I'd bet Giannis doesn't know yet either. Defensively, I think they are carbon copies so far. Very similar numbers, so far, in their rookie seasons. Giannis isn't quite there, but closer than I originally thought. This is going to be an interesting follow.

...Speaking of available players. Augustin and his 3s, steals, dimes and points are available, as well as Collison for the same cats.

WG, I don't know if Kosta is whom you are looking for, but he can be had for a future pick swap.

To someone in contention, I would gladly trade you Ariza for a nice pick upgrade. He is having a career year. He'd be a keeper if he keeps producing like his.

Depending on what happens with Bynum, I have potentially 8 keepers and since I am definitely not winning it this year, I am looking to trade assets to get down to 6 keepers with some pick upgrades. Non keepers you are interested in I would move for more modest pick upgrades. I would be interested in pick upgrades for this year or 2015 - esp. if you are likely to finish very high this year.

top 8:
Hibbert
Griffin
Conley
Wade
Stephenson
Sullinger
Ariza
Bynum

Halfway through the year. I'm in 14th due to some timely pickups and hot shooting the last couple of weeks, and moving up at least two more places before the end of the season isn't out of the question.

That said, KG is barely fantasy worthy this year and has proven to be a huge disappointment because of PT issues. I've staffed a number of other positions with second-tier players like Henderson, Kamen, and Lin. Overall a bit of a disappointment.

I've resisted the urge to pick up one or two category guys off the wire, since players who pick up decent stats across categories are more important than a great one category guy over the course of the season. And I have to keep remembering that shooters are going to have bad stretches--dumping a jump shooter when he's down but healthy only means I lose the opportunity when he turns it around.

A good rebuilding year for me, I think. Live and learn.

Sigh. Too many nagging injuries for me this year. Nice to finally make a run though.

I'm going to have excess keepers. Anyone in need of a PG (Parker, Lowry) or a C (Bogut, Valanciunas) needs to come knocking this offseason.
