Constitution

I Site / Stat Source / League Fees

All game, roster and scoring rules will be governed by ESPN. There is no fee for using ESPN.

II Draft

The Supplemental Draft consists of a slow draft and held on the Draftime.com website. Time limits will be three hours for individual picks and 8 hours cumulative clock. You may draft until your picks run out or you have reached twelve (12) players. The clock will be stopped from 11:00 p.m. – 9 a.m. ET but picks may be made during that time. If you time out, you will be skipped and may select at any time. If you have been skipped and have not made up that pick and it becomes your turn again, you will be skipped for that pick as well. If you leave a Q and that person is available to post your pick, you will not be charged any time on your cumulative clock.

The draft order will be reverse of last year's regular season finish and it will NOT snake. Only players currently in the NBA database are eligible to be drafted. Waivers Priority will begin in the same order as the basic draft order (lottery excluded). Please note: The bottom 14 teams will be in the lottery similar to the actual NBA draft. Top three picks for next year will be selected via lottery. 4th-14th picks will be selected based on inverse order of standings.

III League Settings:

Draft Type: Offline Draft and E-mail draft

Max Teams: 20

Scoring Type: Rotisserie

Max Moves: No maximum

Max Trades: No maximum

Trade Review: League Votes (7 needed to veto)

Post Draft Players: Follow Waiver Rules

Max Games Played: 720 (enforced by position)

Roster Positions: G, G, F, F, C, Util, Util, Util, BN, BN, BN, BN

Stat Categories: FG%, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, OREB, REB, AST, ST, BLK

IV Minimum Games Played / Penalties

A team must accumulate a minimum of 656 GP (82 GP/pos) over the course of a season. For each 8 games of shortfall (1 GP/pos), a team is assigned one demerit. Demerits will be integer values only. Thus, a team with 1-8 games of shortfall will receive one demerit, 9-16 will receive 2 demerits, etc.

If a team finishes “in the money” for prize pool purposes (ranked 1-6), then demerits will be ignored.

For lottery teams, the following penalties will be applied to every pick in the next year’s supplement draft:

If a team accumulates more than 10 demerits, then it will be removed from the lottery and assigned the 14th pick in all rounds (i.e., behind all lottery teams, but ahead of any prize pool teams.)

For teams with less than 10 demerits, that team is pushed forward one place in the supplemental draft rankings for each demerit. For example, if a team finishes in last place (20th) and has 5 demerits, then that team will be treated in the draft rankings as though it finished in 15th place (and the teams actually finishing in places 16-20 will each move down one place.)

If more than one lottery team has a demerit, then the lottery rankings will be successively applied starting with the worst finisher and then moving up to the next worst finisher, etc.

Note: While the maximum number of games is measured on a GP/pos (enforced by the ESPN site), the minimum number of games is NOT. For minimum games, all measurements are based on total games played without regard for position.

V Trades

All trades during the season must be submitted via the website’s offer trade feature to the league for review. If there is a draft pick it needs to be posted in our thread at rotoguru.com and needs to be confirmed by both parties. You might want to rationalize your trade as it takes just 7 members to reject the trade. You have one day to reject it so please check the site at LEAST once per day (many will have the email feature that emails all accepted trades). Remember with a Keeper league there may be draft picks involved so take the time to check those before rejecting it. Please only reject a trade based on the trade and not the teams involved. A trade by its very nature should help both teams either now, the future or both. All off-season/preseason trades will be governed by a commish.

VI Keepers

Returning owners will have a deadline to declare what players from their team they wish to “keep” Each owner may keep up to 6.

You may keep less than six. You may trade keepers after you have declared, but you may not go over six until all 20 teams have officially declared at the Keeper deadline. At that point you may go up to 12 players.

If you keep less than six, the only way you can add a sixth keeper is via trade. You may not drop a player until after the draft is complete.

If you do not name your Keepers by the deadline, the commish(s) will choose those for you and they will be final. If you post your Keepers after the deadline but before the commish posts, your Keepers will be honored. Typically the commish(s) will start figuring out uncommitted Keepers as soon as the deadline has passed.

All “un-kept” players will go into the draft. A player MUST be in the NBA database in order to be kept.

The only off-season transactions that will be allowed are trades. No free agents may be picked up after the end of the season. Trades of a player for a draft pick are allowed.

VII Prizes

A fine plaque will be engraved and shipped to the winner courtesy of the previous year's winner. The trophy will be yours to proudly display with your other cherished mementos for 1 year. It will be the winner’s responsibility to engrave it and ship it to the winner. There will be an added nominal fee to help cover expenses related to the engraving and shipping of the plaque.

A separate cash prize pool has also been established. It is strictly voluntary. Only those who participate will be eligible for this prize. $15 USD entry must be paid by the season opener. The exact method of prize distribution will vary from year to year depending on participation. We focus payouts so it will NOT be winner take all. Six owners will have a chance to “win something.” Prize pool funds are due by Opening Night.

2017-2018 Payout has six managers paid:
1st $100
2nd $60
3rd $35
4th $25
5th $20
6th $15
Total Payouts is 19 X $15 = $ 285 ($30 to trophy fund and for Draftime costs)

Ineligible for prize pool:
PD

If any of the non-participants qualify, the prizes will be reallocated by the commissioners. Managers will move up payout position(s) and any remaining funds will go into the trophy fund.

VIII Owners

As commissioners, we reserve the right NOT to extend an invitation to or remove any owner for any reason. Primary reason for being excluded would be abusive behavior (beyond friendly trash talk, harassment), purposeful rules violations (i.e. colluding on a trade), inactivity (i.e. leaving injured players in as starters repeatedly), unresponsive to other owners or commish(s), missing deadlines (i.e. keepers, draft picks, etc.). If an owner is NOT invited back next year. A new owner will be recruited to take over the vacated team in its exact state.

The following managers have had their 2018 draft picks altered via trade:
01-15-17 GO receives Sandforders 1st for his 4th Round (R. Anderson/Biyombo)
10-10-17 GO receives ttucowboy's 1st for his 6th (2017 pick)

10-11-17 Meatwads receives ttucowboys' 2nd for his 6th (2017 pick)

Bean I can do spreadsheet posts too, I am pretty good with them. However I cant post from work as I am mobile only. So it limits how quick I can get things posted.

Is there anything in particular you need help with at this point? Or throughout the season? As the one who trades the most I could be I charge of the trade list... Guru does Treasury?

GO,

Would be great to have a minister of rules. Maintain the constitution, put new proposed rule changes to vote, etc. Species historically kept track of pick trades in the constitution. That something you could volunteer for?

Guru, as one would suspect, has been a great help so far. Yes he is treasurer, and I believe he and Tosh(?) have historically helped out during the draft. I think they have ESPN league accesss as well, so can help out with Oh shit kinda stuff during the season.

All in all, Species left us in good order, and there is nothing but bright days ahead (even if an uphill climb for some). If you get a chance send him a note of thanks.

I just renewed the draft at draftime. Returning managers are automatically enrolled. New managers have been sent registration instructions via email.

Bean and I are currently set up with admin capabilities at draftime. Anyone else want to be a co-admin?

Next step is to run the lottery, and then to produce a random ordering of the three new managers so that they can select their teams. I'll do that shortly.

Sure. I can maintain rules, trades. I may need some kind of additional access on ESPN to update that constitution after deals. If Guru is Treasurer, guess that would make me Secretary.

I do have draftime access at work so could help there if more people needed.

Pick #1: blue hen
Pick #2: Meatwads
Pick #3: BMD

Spreadsheet with results is here:

From the treasurer:

Prize pool dues for the coming season are $15. There is no assessment for a trophy fund again this year, as that continues to be amply funded.

As background for the new managers, we have an optional prize pool. All participating managers contribute $15 at the start of the season, and the pool is distributed at the end to the top six finishers. The actual award amounts are subject to the total amount in the pool, but generally range from about $100 to the winner down to $15 for the #6 team.

New managers do not need to opt into the pool in their first year. But by the second year, they must decide to be in or out. Once you opt in, you must remain in the pool each year to continue in the pool. If you should ever opt out after the first year, then you can never opt back in.

The only manager who has opted out is Perm Dude. The three new managers have the choice to opt in now or to defer their decision until next year.

Several managers have funds on account to cover all or part of the dues for 2018:
Bean, Dave R, Fosten (if he opts in), GO, KnicksFan, RSF, twolves.
So you guys are already paid up.

In addition, the following managers should win enough from G20 baseball to cover their dues for hoops:
Meatwads, Tosh, WG
Once the baseball season ends, I'll transfer over $15 of your likely winnings. So sit tight for now.

Everyone else owes $15, according to my records. If you think I have missed any funds on account for you, please let me know.

Payments can be sent in either of the following ways:
1. Paypal: please send to davehall@rotoguru2.com. (Recipient will probably appear as Uncommon Cents LLC.) Designate this as send money to friends and family, and mark the payment only as "G20 hoops". Do not say "prize" or "pool". Those words are red flags for Paypal.
2. Snail mail: check can be sent to the address listed at the bottom of this page:

<11> GO, I've given you LM privileges at ESPN. Don't know if we will need more help during the draft, but I added you to co-admin there too.

<10> Guru, once the teams are chosen, I'll set up the draft picks at draft time. When we get the keepers, I'll take care of loading those as well. As the draft progresses I will periodically put players on rosters, so that people can use the ESPN "players available" tool to help them with their draft picks.

So, what I'll need from the three coadmins (Guru, Tosh and GO) is for someone to check my work before I start the draft, and possibly be around to fix stuff during the draft if applicable (or just stop the draft if something goes awry). I will be monitoring the draft, but may be pre-occupied at times (I go to my Pikes Peak Browns Backers Bar on Sundays for example, and I will be glued to the set for Indians and Rockies Playoffs).

I am also commish of another keeper league that Florian also plays in, so I kinda planned to devote time to drafts this season, I'm retired and my wife is tolerant, so it should all be good. I'm anxious to see if they put all of this year's NBA draft picks in the players pool at draft time, or if we will need write ins for some.

Anyway for the three of you, anything else I should be thinking about before we get rolling on the draft?

I am in the fortunate position of having 7 young (age 23 or younger) players I would really like to keep (Markkanen, Isaac, Fultz, Nurkic, Ingram, Parker and Lavine). I have two other young players (Chriss, Hernangomez) Im not expecting to keep, but would be happy to throw in with a trade or for a small draft pick upgrade. I also have 5 of the top 43 draft picks (and 2 of the top 7). I obviously cant keep all these assets as I can only have six keepers now and by the end of this year need to be down to 6 again.

Basically I need to make trades. Im open to trading up (draft picks), trading for a high level veteran, etc

Email me if you are interested.

Hey guys, I'm excited to start a new season. It's good to have a few new managers. I'm hoping for an active preseason talking trades. I know I would take offers for the #2 pick in draft, if that helps spark things.

Besides that, I'm looking at trading 2-for-1 or trading one for a draft pick. I'd be open to adding more vets to pair with McCollum and Millsap, or going the other way and dealing one or both for someone in the same age range as my other youngsters. But anyone with any ideas, reach out to me. I'll be sending some emails too.

My current keepers, plus one...
C.J. McCollum, G
D'Angelo Russell, G
Josh Jackson, G/F
Andrew Wiggins, G/F
Jordan Bell, F/C
Dejounte Murray G
Paul Millsap, F

A bit late to check in here but

Am probably looking for one keeper to trade for (either a pick or a 1 for 2?). Let me know if you have excess??

Have Rozier but am unlikely to sit on him for a year until Kyrie leaves... anyone want him? Rozier for an old guy??

Someone emailed me asking about Jokic and I was unable to respond through the site. Feel free to make an offer but honestly I am unlikely to move him unless Im blown away by something.

Thanks!

I have the following players that are potential for my 6th keeper spot, so let me know if you are interested in any of them. Looking for draft pick upgrades or 2 for 1 deals.

Kent Bazemore SG, ATL - starting SG in Atlanta and could be #1 scoring option to start the season on a bad team

Jeremy Lin, PG, ATL - likely starting PG in Atlanta as they work Trey Young in and could see a lot of small ball lineups with Lin and Young on the floor with Young playing more of a 2 role

Jonathon Simmons, SG/SF, ORL - Contributes in pretty much every category across the board, and was consistent as a starter or as the 6th man.

Have received multiple inquiries on Dunn. Rightly or wrongly I like my 6 so probably just interested in a draft pick. In such a deep league I suspect he will go in round one given his starter status and upside. Either send me your player proposal or your best draft choice offer or let the fates of the draft decide his destination.

My likely keepers are

Lauri Markkanen, F, Chi
Jonathan Isaac, F, Orl
Markelle Fultz, G, Phi
Brandon Ingram, F, LAL
Zach LaVine, G, Chi
Jabari Parker, F, Chi

I guess I am now a Bulls fan since half my keepers play there

I would like to keep Nurkic, but obviously cannot barring a trade. Ive sent out numerous proposals the last week or so and clearly have not managed to make a trade. Thank you to everyone who replied to my trade offers/questions. It is much appreciated :)

I have to say I am surprised and somewhat shocked by the number of managers who couldnt be bothered to email back at all. How long does it really take to reply no or not interested

At this point Im happy to trade Nurkic for a small draft pick upgrade or just let him go and have someone else draft him.

<45> Are you asking for last year's standings?

If so, go to the league at ESPN. There is a pull down that says 2019, select 2018 there. You'll find on the right a full standings link.

I am fortunate to now have two first round picks (1.03 and 1.07), three second round picks (2.03, 2.12, 2.20) and an early third round pick (3.03). I would ideally like to get another first round pick or upgrade my first round picks. I am willing to trade multiple second round picks to get another first round pick (which picks obviously depends on the first round pick being offered). I could also throw in Willy Hernangomez if anyone wants him. Let me know if you are interested

Just to confirm, we should all be selecting our keepers on the ESPN site as well so that it matches what is posted in the keeper thread right? This should make it easier when the commish starts the draft process and cuts the non-keeper players.

Yes, selecting your keepers in ESPN will help. In some cases ALL of the keepers will not be available (Nurkic, for example, who was just traded). Just select the ones you can. Ultimately the keeper thread is the official list, selecting them at ESPN too just makes my job easier.

I have started the draft. No clock on Sunday & Monday or until we start the 2nd round whichever comes first. Four hour clock thereafter as long as we are not in peril of being ready for the start of the season.

If you find an error in your picks or keepers in Draft Time let me, Tosh, Guru or GO know ASAP so we can fix it.

I will periodically load your players into your rosters at ESPN, so the players tab can be a useful tool for drafting.

Good Luck

Just to be clear about the no clock. It's not there to abuse, its to give everyone time to get their queues loaded and to become aware that we have started. When I do start the clock there will be a daily pause between 10 PM and 8 AM EDT. You will still be able to pick during the pause.

Anything else that you all already know that I need to say?

Bean - I remember Species used to make us pick up players after we drafted them. I think there was a reason he didn't add the player to rosters as the drafted unfolded. Maybe because he ended up having to do it all again at the end. I could be out of my mind, so maybe someone more informed could chime in.

I've been looking for my franchise center for years. Welcome to the squad DeAndre Ayton!

Thanks Bean, from what I've seen on Draftie it looks good. But I always say this in F101.

Making your 1st pick is you essentially signing off and attesting that all your picks are correct and you've reviewed them

We will always try and correct things if possible, but we're only human. Don't tell the league when the draft is over that you never got that extra 3rd rounder you were owed. You snooze, you lose.

<89><92> I am inclined to think that the risk should belong to the trade partners. If the trade is later vetoed, they get to keep the players who were drafted in their original slots. To back the draft up would be too intrusive.

We are nearly done with the first round now. The draft has been running for well over 24 hours now. There was no mystery about when the draft would start.

WG has been on the clock for 4.5 hours now. I have sent him an e-mail (to two different addresses) telling him that if he doesn't make his pick by 1 PM EDT, he will be skipped. If you have an alternate way to contact him, and you actually give a damn, you may want to let him know.

Side note, I want to give a shout out to Vampire Weekend. When I was looking over the rosters, I noticed he drafted Jayson Tatum and Donovon Mitchell!!! last season. It was the inspiration behind my rookie bonanza. I'm not expecting miracles, but I liked my 2.02 stab at Michael Porter, Jr. paired with Deandre Ayton long term. I also liked what Florian did with his rookie picks. Getting Wendell Carter and Mo Bamba has the potential to make a big difference down the road. Good luck to everyone this season!

That's why I rarely set pick queues with this group. I keep an overall queue and then when I get within 2-3 picks I start looking at those remaining players closer. Almost all of my picks this draft have been the B or C player I was looking at, but that's pretty much expected by now.
