Subject: VOTE: NBA All-Star Break policy

  Posted by: Bernie H. - [395452711] Mon, Feb 04, 2002, 12:26

I'd like to ask any interested Ultimate Fantasy Hoops players to participate in a quick vote. Should there be daily price updates during the 4 days of the NBA All-Star Break?

Please use this thread only to cast your vote. This issue has been hotly debated in the following separate thread: http://rotoguru1.com/cgi-bin/mb/hoop/7246.shtml?1012846529.

Please vote either:
1. Yes. There should be a price update on each of the 4 days of the NBA ASB.
2. No. There will be no price updates during the 4 days of the NBA ASB.

Voting will close at the end of today, Monday, Feb. 4.

Thank you,
Bernie, TSN

Because that's what the original rules stated and I think it's ridiculous we have to vote on this.

Unless there is a compelling reason (scheduled system maintenance, etc.), this should not even be subject to a vote at this late date.

I think there are good reasons why price changes should be suspended (and aggregated in a single change), but this should be announced well in advance of the time that people would be planning for the ASB period. Since that was not done, people should rightly be able to rely on the posted rules regardless of the outcome of this vote.

Next year, I recommend that the ASB be a moratorium period - and that this be clearly stated in the rules when the game is launched.

Why is there voting on the issue in this forum. What about the people who play Ultimate Fantasy Basketball but don't lurk here.

The fact that there's a vote is ridiculous, but the fact this vote isn't occuring on the Sporting News site is absurd.

Give me a break.

I vote YES and ditto everything Guru said in post 18. I think an all-star break break is fine when it is stated in the original rules.

While TSN has the right to change rules in mid-stream as stated by the rules themselves... it loses validity every time it does such.

Why would a person or organization unecessarily and intentionally wish to minimize his, her or its validy?

As much as I agree with the need to abide by the rules, the proposed change is an improvement in every conceivable respect. If someone's price is going to change over the break, why do we want those changes to happen 5 times? TSN should have realized this was coming several weeks ago, especially since they've done it for baseball and hockey, and given everyone ample notice. But I still think the net benefit of the change outweighs the principle at stake.

It is now Monday (4th). The new change in strategy would occur on Friday. The other players not using this forum will probably not have a clue until tomorrow when you announce it once new trades are distributed, so I guess you should keep daily price updates during the ASB.

Bernie, I am getting concerned about a couple of things. One - why do you put so much value on what is written in this forum? It is a minority of TSN players and with the treatment you get from some of them I am surprised you reply at all let alone seek their input in ratifying decisions. Two - when will the announcement appear on the TSN web page? I have not seen any word of it except for on this forum. Personally I don't care what happens over ASB but you must tell everyone not just the few hundred who use this forum.

Okay. There are obviously a lot more Yes's than No's. In this case, although it runs counter to our original decision, we are going to process the daily price updates during the Break, since that's what's implied in our rules.

An announcement will be made on the site immediately.

Bloody Geoff, regardless of how we're treated or what the relative percentage of all users is here, we greatly respect the opinions of all RotoGuru.com patrons. If we could poll every one of our users, we would, but otherwise, the people here always give us ample and timely feedback.

Thanks,

Let me add that this is not a democracy -- it's a dictatorship. Ultimately, Bernie and I are comfortable making decisions that represent TSN and the best interests of the games. HOWEVER, we often feel that Gurupies -- the most loyal of our players -- have the best reads on how our decisions will affect them. So, while the voices on this board represent a fraction of our total audience, they seem to be most articulate and passionate about our games, which is why we take them so seriously.

If a roster is invalid during ASB due to players traded and slots not yet filled, do the remaining players on the team continue to see price changes, or is that team's value frozen until the roster is valid again? If this is answered elsewhere, I'd appreciate a link. Thanks.
