I'm looking for good basketball history books. For example, a complete history of the game, a history of college, a history of the NBA, etc. Any sort of book about the history of Basketball. Please suggest titles/authors! Thank you!

I want to start reading actual history books. I've only read books like:

"Basketball's most wanted - the top 10 book of hoops' outrageous dunkers, incredible buzzer-beaters, and other oddities" by Floyd Conner.

It's a fun book, but there's not much substance.

The SI issue about two weeks back had a list of the 100 best sports books of all time. I don't have it handy but I bet it has at least one of the types of books you're looking for.

"Loose Balls", the story of the ABA. although the format of the book took a little bit of getting used to, there is nothing that compares to this story of the ABA, as told by the folks who lived it.

Loose Balls is good, also Tall Tales (by Terry Pluto). Early days of the NBA. Pretty much anything by Pluto is good.

My favorite story from Tall Tales, Wilt used to blame his poor FT shooting from other players putting stick-um on the ball. So when he was at the line, Bob Ferry? said he would rub his socks (where Wilt said he kept his stick-um) just to upset Wilt even more.

Was checking this book out in the bookstore the other day. Its pretty cool.

With alot of features from history of the NBA to Complete player index(yearly stats of every player who ever played) including tons of records and "top tens" in hundreds of categories.

Here it is at Amazon

I'd like to read all of those books. Their snippets make them all sound interesting. :D I think it is really remarkable though that there's no history of the game from the beginning to present day.

Big game small world by Alexander Wolf

Any of the books written by David Halberstam on MJ are good.

Sorry. I really meant the books by Bob Greene on MJ. Halberstam also wrote a book on MJ which was equally as good, however.
