Thought we should move from the Draft Discussion Thread.

Here's the waiver stuff:

The following has also been sent to the league via email:

We still have yet to determine who will receive and post this year's waiver claims. Last year MBJ was gracious enough to handle the task for us. In 2005, Tree assumed the responsibility.

Are there any volunteers this year?

For new league members who are not familiar, here is the gist of Toral's explanation of the system from last year:

We decided last year to opt out of Yahoo's default system where free agents can be picked up anytime. The major reason I believe was to avoid the situation where RBs 1 and 2 go down on Sunday and a player suddenly becomes valuable and goes to the 1st person to go to the computer. Some people are away many Sundays, some aren't near a computer and some just don't want to have to follow all injuries and rush to the computer when a player suddenly becomes valuable.

Requests for players are handled through the manual waiver system. Managers who want to pick up a player must make a request to the commissioner or his delegate (myboyjack was the delegate last year and has offered to do it again) by a stated time each week (usually Tuesday at 9 P.M. Eastern). mbj sifts through the requests and produces a report on which claims have been approved, publishes it on the message boards, and sends it to the commissioner. The waiver priority is bottom up, last to first based on the standings as of that time. Multiple claims and alternative claims (i.e., DROP Joe Blow PK and pickup John Doe PK OR Joe Schmoe PK) are possible. Alternative claims address the possibility of some other manager claiming the player you want before it's your turn to claim.

Adding to that, once any NFL game starts, all free agent players on those teams are officially "on waivers" and cannot be added to anyone's roster. If you want to add a player to your team after his game has started that weekend, you must submit your request to the (currently unestablished) delegate via email.

The waiver schedule we used last year was that the claims had to be emailed to the delegate by 9pm EST Tuesday nights. That night the delegate (Waiver Master?) processes the claims and announces where all the players landed in a Rotoguru thread designed specifically for that purpose. (Last year's thread here)

We all then have 24 hours, until 10pm EST Wednesday to add the players we've claimed off waivers. At that time, 10pm EST on Wednesdays, all players not currently on any fantasy team's roster then becomes a free agent, until kickoff for their next game.

Also, when emailing your claims to the Waiver Master, please be sure to list your claims in order of preference and include the first and last name of players involved and their positions and teams. For example:

1. ADD: Joe Namath, QB, NY Jets
DROP: Fred Dryer, DL, LA Rams

2. ADD: OJ Simpson, KWM, Buffalo Bills
DROP: Fred Dryer, DL, LA Rams OR
Bill Bergy, DL, Phil. Eagles

This manager wanted to acquire both Joe Namath and OJ Simpson. Note that, knowing that he might not get both claims through the waiver system, and preferring to lose Dryer over Bill Bergy, he made Fred Dryer his first-choice player to drop both times. In case the Namath claim was successful, he listed a second player to drop for OJ, since Dryer would then no longer be on his team.

Also, since there was no other nominations or volunteers, I think MITH is now our COMMISH (ComMITH?) for 2008! Congratulations!

If there is anyone who, for any reason, feels that MITH cannot or should not hold the revered office of commish, speak now (or bloody soon) or forever hold their codpiece.

One thing I've neglected to mention is that its always a good idea to post here at the forum that you have sent claims my way. If for some reason I don't receive your email its the simplist way to resolve the issue.

Last week one manager typo'd my email address but he had sent me a text letting me know to expect his claims.

Heh heh. Yeah, Zen, I'm only taking the cute ones, though, for high resale value.

Actually, this one was a planned homebirth. And the other kids (Chase, age 10 and Ceci, age 3) both got a chance to watch. Something they'll remember the rest of their lives. And watching the pure wonder on their faces will be something I'll remember the rest of mine.

That must have been pretty cool, PD!

Though, even though the risk is low, after experiencing a crash and a emergency c-section just 7 months ago with our little tyke, I was sure glad to have an operating room 4 doors down.

No homebirths in our future, I'm afraid.

Crap. I should have checked that. Didn't make a difference this week but awarding a taken player to a manager early in the process can set the whole thing off.

I'll chalk it up to the late hour and be sure to pay more attention. I should also request that you guys make sure the players you claim are available. I also received a claim for a taken player in week 1.

Per MITH's post with the claims in the other thread:

The champ is here/Wiggs
Add: Ladell Betts. RB. GB.
Drop: Darrell Jackson. WR. SF

i'm seeing wiggs dropped Heath Miller and added Desmond Clark.

it let me drop rhodes, but won't let me add in jordan.

I'm giving the early notification now, so I feel it should be ok....

I'm not one to talk, but there was a lot of jumping the gun this week. The two I notice without too much effort are Takeo and Roydell.

I wouldn't care too much except I was eyeing Roydell this morning, but held off.

Should we change the rule so that non-claimed players are available earlier?

In Wiggs' very large claim email this week, he used a format that was difficult to follow and I had to make my best guess at who he was requesting and how many requests he made.

After re-reading his email, I see that he should have been awarded Spikes. I've asked Wiggs to stick to the format explained in the subject field of this thread.

Tax did not send me any requests this week.

at least you're better than the Dolphins, who sucked even WITH Ronnie Brown.

I just keep running into the wrong team at the wrong time. I beat all but 2 teams again and lost.

going into this week, only 4 teams had less points than you. it's not as if you're gangbusters every week. you kicked ass the first three weeks, but once the bye weeks started, your points dropped significantly - nearly 50 points a game.

conversely, of the top 4 teams, only Pancho's numbers dropped significantly (probably due to the wild swing of scores between his week 3 high and week 7 low). the other three top teams stayed relatively close between the first three weeks, and the next four weeks.

Can we have a ruling on the Ward waiver claim? I was pondering it, but assumed it illegal.

going into this week, only 4 teams had less points than you. it's not as if you're gangbusters every week. you kicked ass the first three weeks, but once the bye weeks started, your points dropped significantly - nearly 50 points a game.

Tree your team has averaged 44 points less over the 1st 7 weeks then they did this week, did I run into you the wrong week? I outscored 9 of the 11 teams in the league, with harrison not playing, did i run into the wrong team this week? Last week I ran into a team that scored 234 points, his projections were 155 and his average before that week was 135. Did I run into the wrong team that week? That was all I was saying.

and bye weeks havent hurt my team as much as my players not playing.

Andre Johnson has missed 6 weeks
Marvin harrison 4 weeks and a bye
Chester taylor 1 week
Westbrook 2
devery Henderson 1

That hurts scores as well.

Can we have a ruling on the Ward waiver claim? I was pondering it, but assumed it illegal.

not illegal at all in my opinion. we just went through this in another league i'm in.

the transaction was made before Sunday's games.

because the player was on waivers, it takes a day to process. the claim was made prior to the deadline, so there shouldn't be anything illegal about it.

Tree your team has averaged 44 points less over the 1st 7 weeks then they did this week, did I run into you the wrong week?

huh?

1. i have 149.50 points this week, and one WR to go. i've average 160 points a game. i averaged 156.95 in the first 3 games, and 162.33 in the last 4 (prior to this week). i'm right along with what i've been doing all season.

2. you probably picked the right week to run into me. the week you played me, was the second lowest point total i've had all season.

3. injuries have definitely hurt your team, no doubt.

Not that I don't trust Pancho, but how do you know the claim with before the games?

there has to be some presumption of honor in this league, and that's what i'm going with. if PV says the pick up was made after the game began, then i would drop him from the roster.

Ah. Didn't realize the player was on waivers. What about Roydell Williams?

looks like Williams was added to Tax's team on a Wednesday night at 7:47 pm. it was also a free agent pick up, so it's illegal and i'll change the rosters.

actually, even if it was a waiver pick up, it would also be illegal, because the transaction would originally have been made on a frozen day (tuesday).

sorry i didn't catch this sooner. i was on vacation in SanFran last week, and returned via red eye thursday morning...

Oct 24 9:06am Takeo SpikesP (Phi - DL) Add Free Agents the champ is here Eric

Isn't the time a player is picked up registered somewhere? Otherwise, how would Tree know what time those transactions in #100 took place?

Oct 26 5:22am Takeo Spikes (Phi - DL) Drop the champ is here Waivers Eric
Oct 24 7:47pm Roydell Williams (Ten - WR) Add Free Agents Tax Rules Taxman
Oct 24 7:47pm Joshua Cribbs (Cle - WR) Drop Tax Rules Waivers Taxman
Oct 24 7:36pm Paris Lenon (Det - DL) Add Free Agents Tax Rules Taxman
Oct 24 7:36pm Cedric Benson (Chi - RB) Drop Tax Rules Waivers Taxman

Oct 24 9:06am Ladell Betts (Was - RB) Drop the champ is here Waivers Eric

above are the moves in question.

Tax's two moves were illegal, and i need to reverse them.

HOWEVER, in the meantime, Wiggs picked up Cedric Benson (for Spikes), and used him this week as his flex position. so, we'd, in effect, be punishing Wiggs for picking up a player who was out there on the wire, and i don't like doing that.

now, it doesn't matter who Wiggs had played in that spot - he wasn't going to win.

i think we certainly have to remove Williams and Lenon from Tax's roster. and, subsequently, have to add Benson and Cribbs back to it.

as a result, i have to remove Benson from Wigg's roster, and add Spikes back to it.

i hate punishing Wiggs for doing something that wasn't wrong. i don't know if he would have dropped Spikes for someone else anyway to play in that flex position, but i'd like to give him the option of saying what he would have done, and then i'll add that player to his roster and into the flex position for Week 8.

that being said, it needs to be someone who realistically would have been picked up - if you were even going to pick someone other than Benson up at all. no picking up someone who had a hot game this week, who wouldn't have been on the radar when you were picking up Benson.

league thoughts?

OK...I've checked in..and somehow decided that FA pick ups had started. That is mostly my not understanding when FA are eligible to be picked up w/o gpimg thru waivers, compounded by the pressure of going w/o internet through Sunday evening.

I am out of town in a few hours through Sunday. If 2 DB's can be added to my roster and made active i would appreciate it. Otherwise, we can deal with my inattentiveness upon my return. I have invited PD to be a co-manager if the commish can not effect the DB adds, maybe Fred can

You picked up one of my waiver claims 6 hours after I posted that I thought I had won no claims. To top that ... an hour after you picked up Bodden, you link me to waiver thread, but fail to mention that you had already scooped my waiver claim. This is Absolute bull$hit

And for what it is worth...I was on an airplane untill midnight EST last night, having left @ home @ 5:30 AM for day trip to Chicago. Had I known/undestood the method of moving claim winners to the roster...I could have asked PD, my co-manager to make the moves in my absence.

If that move is not undone and Bodden on my roster for this w/e's game...simply for the morality of the action...I immediately withdraw from this league...get yourself another "dummy".

Sure I am charged with the responsibility of knowing the rules...but after publically displaying my confusion and previous history of not picking players timely...to have the waiver claim master sneal in and grab a waiver claim not added to roster because of my "nebie disease"..I do not need to be in this league.

That ranks near the top of unethical actions I have seen on this board in the 10 years I've been hanging out here.

BTW...I am giving notice now that I will not be in this league next year if Tree is the commissioner. And yes...this decision was reached while I was writing my prior post. This will allow pleanty of time to find a replacement manager.

I make an honest effort be active, to be competitive and to enjoy the companionship of the other managers I am fortunate enough to compete with. I do not try to take advantage of other managers by way of trade offers (by the way...Tuesday, I rejected a lop sided offer from Tree for Romo ..he would give up McNabb and Walter whom he dropped after offer was rejected knowing that Bryant is coming back in Week 11..)

In short...I will do my best in the future to avoid any league Joe in which he is the commissioner.

Ethical commissioner conduct is one of my personal requirements for participation in a league. His action maybe within the letter of the rule, but with my earlier post pointing out my lack of understanding the league rule...well, I shouldn't have to spell it out.

Right is....everything else isn't

Hey Tax -

Tree has already abdicated for 2008, and MITH will be taking over.

Sorry about the confusion about the timing and pick-up process. It's a bit of a pain and hard to find in the multitude of threads.

I tried to get Tree to add a commish note explaining the times, but it didn't occur to me (or probably him) that we are responsible for our own pickups. We went back and forth on that last year, but this is what we decided.

It may be that Tree didn't even realize that Bodden was one of your claims; I wouldn't have. I would accuse him of lack of attention before anything nefarious.

I hope you stick around. You're a great manager and I enjoy the competition. Tree's been inattentive to this league this year, but I have complete faith MITH will do a better job next year.

you know what's absolute bull$hit?

you jumping to conclusions and being an ass about it.

i needed a DB. i went in this morning to pick one up. i picked up the one i thought would do well for my team.

as Bili pointed out, i didn't even realize i snagged one of your claims. it was after the 10 pm Wednesday deadline - in fact, the next day, albeit 6:30 in the morning. i didn't go in saying "i'm going to grab one of tax's claims!"

instead, i went for what i felt was the best player available. if you had just pointed it out instead of going into hysterics, i would have dropped him to you, no questions asked.

regarding my trade offer - to me, the only bad trades are the ones not offered. if you don't like an offer, simply reject it. i've been on the right, and wrong side, of trades in many leagues. my trade offer as a manager has nothing to do with my job as a commish.

in fact, i resent that you are calling my ethics into question without even bothering to say "hey man, that was my player you snagged."

i go out of my way, as a commish, to make things fair. probably too much so, which played a role in why i'm no longer interested in running this league. after an absurdly tumultuous pre-season, i resigned effective next season, and, as bili pointed out, have given minimal attention to running this league. the goings on of the pre-season just completely wore me out and made me lose all desire to be the commish.

but i absolutely resent your insinuations that i intentionally went out of my way to screw you over, or be unethical in any way.

if you'll notice, last week, one of our managers picked up Justin Fargas too early. i dropped him from that manager's roster.

Owning Lamont Jordan, i REALLY wanted to add Fargas to my roster, but felt as commish it wouldn't be right for me to drop him from one manager's roster, then a half hour pick him up for mine. so, i didn't, and let him sit out there all week and actually got him in waivers THIS week, which i didn't expect.

i actually tried to get this league to chip in a paltry 10 bucks each so we could upgrade to Yahoo Plus - which has a fantastic waiver system that is everything we want and would avoid situations like this - and i think a grand total of 3 people expressed interest and donated to the cause, and it was dropped.

so, anyway, your attitude toward me in this matter is completely unwarranted, and does a disservice to me, you, and the whole league.

you came at me, accused me of being unethical, accused me of doing something improper and within the rules even after i said if you had come to me i would have dropped "your player" and then you quit because i told you were wrong in your accusations.

and i wasn't even the only one who said you were (most likely) wrong your accusations.

same here Baldwin. i noted in the pre-season with everything that happened that fantasy sports is supposed to be an escape from the angst, and when that escape ended, it lost something.

Punk..Billi etal: To recap chronologically:

I post #116 after tree has locked my roster and i am leaving town thru Sunday night having picked up to players "early" one of whom was the DB the player that set me off today. I made PD a co-manager and he graciously fixed my roster after Tree pulled his uncalled for/unprecedented/unwarned locking of my team preventing me from making transactions before I left town last Wednesday (for Sporting Clays Nationals held in San Antonio Bili)

I timely filed my waiver claims with Mith Tuesday, and made the assumption that the winning claims would be put on my team. (I know..assume is "ass" "u" "me")

I post #140 @ 1:45 EST this morning clearly in total frustration and confusion as to how Poli Football "claims" are handled. My Claims were submitted timely, but when I returned from the 18 hour day trip Austin-Chicago-Austin..the players were not on my roster. How do I get the players before some other manager grabs them.

4 hours later, @ Nov 8 5:30am Leigh Bodden (Cle - DB) my waiver claim is taken by Tree

15 min later, tree posts that I won all my claims and refers me to the claims won thread...but fails to mention he grabbed Bodden, one of my claim picks.

3 hours later..I find Tree's post 140 and thank him

15 minutes later Mith, understanding that I am completely lost as to this leagues waiver claim system, tells me I must place the players on my team before some one else grabs them (a minor ommission in Tree's post# 140)

from there you see that I find that our commissioner saw I had won the claims, had not placed them on my roster "timely", seeing Bodden was there, made the pick up for his team. Result..I go ballistic..including casting disparaging remarks about Tree's lack of ethics, for which I have no proof, and for which I apologize.

Multiple problems:

post 120: Billi posts that the pertinent time for certain transactions be posted in a visible location to help aleviate the confusion.

I have accused Tree of unethical conduct without knowing same as a fact. My conclusions are logical, but not provable, thus must be withdrawn. Whether the conduct was intentional after finding I had not (known) to pick up my claim wins( had I known where to look for that info)..he should have known when he referred me to the waiver thread as he told me I won all of my claims that Bodden was a claimed player and he absolutely knew when I went balistic.

Tree's response is that I am a jerk for questioning his ethics. Haven't called tree a jerk yet, but the potential exists. He justifies not setting the table straight because of the unjustified character attack.

My response..I quit...mostly because he responds as a manager, not as a commishioner who needs to oversee fixing a significant problem to at least one manager...and a probably others such a billi who forcast this problem

There you have it guys. Your second place team ressigns over a mostly meaningless player because, NOWHERE does there exist a written, findable concise explanation of the waiver claim period and the waiver pick up period, rendering "newbies" a distinct disadvantage, which the commissioner has failed to rectify.

I asked that Bodden be placed on my roster for this w/e..but the commish with absolute impunity says no..the same attitude used to screw my team last week by locking it where I could not fix the problem and grab players of my choosing before I left town Wednesday mid-day.

This problem would be less damning had it been billi or PD grabbing the Bodden. @With the commish taking advantage of the newbie...I need to not be in this league...thus I'm not.

You don't need my bad attitude about the unwritten waiver/claiming rules (or written, but scattered about multiple threads) which several returning managers have requested posting in one easy place to find.

PD has access to the team, so it can remain active and I can forget about what I see to be in best light an unintended barrier placed in front of a new manager and a commissioner that is not capable of placing the league integrity above his team.

Minor point, Tree did try to get everyone to chip in the measley &10.00 dollars...but it was only after my third request to tree for a snail mail address, that he responded with"drop the idea".

Hope the above provides an insight to how frustration over not having access to rules will cause one to go a bit crazy and lose desire to be involved in a league.

Best of luck to all...including Tree. From my point, I just washed many many hours down the drain and I am most unhappy having done so at the expense of family time, work (hurts when self-employed) and sleep...none of which can be recovered.

I will not be following this thread further..my e-mail address is shown above if you need to reach me.

All this rigamarole was set us so that eager beavers like Tree and me weren't able to hang on every game and take advantage of those who weren't able to watch the games unfold real-time.

Had a commish known that Taxman would be unavailable to pick up his winnings at the waiverwire lottery the commish would have been honor-bound if not rule-bound to add them to Taxman's roster.

There's a rule change suggestion in there.

Tree pulled his uncalled for/unprecedented/unwarned locking of my team preventing me from making transactions

it was at least the second time this season you made "illegal" moves. i put illegal in quotes because i don't believe you willingly set out to violate any rules, you just didn't know them, and that's fine.

you didn't respond to any posts in this thread, nor any emails. i didn't lock your team to punish you, but was waiting for you to check in, because i didn't want you to keep picking up players that you shouldn't have been, that's all.

other owners made note of your absence, and as soon as you made contact, i unlocked your team.

NONE of this was some secretive, "unprecedented", "unwarned" action. Yahoo gives you the option of locking a team because sometimes you have to. it's not as if this hasn't happened in plenty of other leagues before.

i posted in this thread that i was locking your team, and i posted in this thread when i unlocked it - a span of time ranging a grand total of 16 hours. there was nothing secret about this action AT ALL.

I post #140 @ 1:45 EST this morning clearly in total frustration and confusion as to how Poli Football "claims" are handled. My Claims were submitted timely, but when I returned from the 18 hour day trip Austin-Chicago-Austin..the players were not on my roster. and that's fine. you didn't understand. that's cool. no one has issue with that. and i feel pretty comfortable in saying these two things:

1. at the time i made the pick up of Bodden, no other owner in this league would have bothered to check to see if there was a claim hanging out there for someone else. it was after the deadline, so the presumption is that all players are eligible to be picked up.

this was even pointed out by bili, who said he wouldn't have checked either. heck, this was pretty much suggested by even Baldwin, who anyone here will know isn't exactly my best friend on the board.

2. i feel pretty comfortable in saying that any owner - myself included - would have more than willfully dropped Bodden if you had simply said - "hey man, that was my claim, and i didn't realize i had to pick him up myself." i point to the Fargas example i mentioned in an earlier post.

he should have known when he referred me to the waiver thread as he told me I won all of my claims that Bodden was a claimed player

how would i have known Bodden was a claimed player? i didn't look at nor memorize the list after i checked to see if my claim was successful. i just posted the link. i almost feel sick for trying to be helpful, because somehow, that makes me guilty of some "crime".

mostly because he responds as a manager, not as a commishioner who needs to oversee fixing a significant problem to at least one manager..

no, i responded as a commish. you called my actions as the commish unethical, so i responded in kind.

NOWHERE does there exist a written, findable concise explanation of the waiver claim period and the waiver pick up period, rendering "newbies" a distinct disadvantage, which the commissioner has failed to rectify.

well, nowhere except the first post in this thread.

I asked that Bodden be placed on my roster for this w/e..but the commish with absolute impunity says no..

i never said no. you quit 30 minutes and one post after declaring you would quit if the change wasn't made. never mind that it didn't really leave much time to make the change, but i'm not sure anyone else falsely accused of being unethical would leap to make the changes demanded by that person. i've learned in life there is a huge difference between asking, and demanding.

may i point out that you made the mistake, and then demanded i fix it. it may be semantics, but bees and honey, bees and honey.

a commissioner that is not capable of placing the league integrity above his team.

i do like how you began the post with an apology, then tossed that aside to toss aspersions once again.

again - and i feel pretty comfortable that most managers in this league would back me - i did nothing to intentionally give my team any sort of competitive advantage. as owner and commish, i followed the rules.

Minor point, Tree did try to get everyone to chip in the measley &10.00 dollars...but it was only after my third request to tree for a snail mail address, that he responded with"drop the idea".

because i was not getting much of a response from the league. i did not want you to through the trouble of writing and sending a check - and me through the trouble of writing one back if the whole deal feel through (which it did) - if the Yahoo Plus wasn't going to happen, and i wasn't getting the response i thought i would.

i repeatedly find myself having to apologize for doing nothing wrong.

i'm sorry you feel the need to leave the league, and equally as sorry you choose to attack, then flee.

Had a commish known that Taxman would be unavailable to pick up his winnings at the waiverwire lottery the commish would have been honor-bound if not rule-bound to add them to Taxman's roster.

no question. i think that goes without saying in any league.

I don't know if I'm helping any or making it worse by poionting this out but the complete rules were pasted by bili into the subject field of this thread. He copied them from post 121 of Draft Discussion Thread. The rules were also sent to each manager via email on August 27th. The subject line of the email was "Politics Forum Football League Waiver Claims".

In each place, the top of this thread, post 121 of the draft discussion thread and the email sent out back in August, the rules are described in completion.

I can sympathize with Taxman's over reaction, because almost the exact same thing happened to me last year, and my reaction was similar.

If I remember correctly, Tree was fair-handed in allowing me to obtain Maurice Morris from him(Alexander was hurt) even though technically he didn't have to.

So I don't think it's fair to isolate Tree as a win-at-all-costs manager or commissioner, and it doesn't appear that anything deliberately under-handed has occurred. The waiver rules in this league are unique, and it's reasonable to expect that certain aspects may need a once over to become clear.

Tax is a great manager and a real plus for this league. I say both he and Tree deserve the benefit of the doubt and we proceed in a manner to rectify the issue. After all, it's not likely that Bodden will be an impact player regardless of whose roster he graces.(Having said that, watch him get a TD on an INT this weekend)

I have also had issues with this league, mine was in baseball. I missed out on my prospects because I didnt realize you could lose prospect eligibility during the season. In my case both managers were classy enough to let me have my guys back. It was chris young and Dustin Pedroia. I believe it was nerve and bili.

Tax if this mistake is cleared up would you stay?

My problem with everyone that has complained in all of these Poli leagues is everyone that has an issue tries to play the "I'm new I didn't know card". There are multiple posts about everything that has come into question. As proven already in this thread by 2 posts about where you could find everything in the last few minutes. It isn't a Commish's fault if you don't know the rules because you didn't read the posts about them. That's like failing a test in school and then blaming it on the teacher because you didn't read the book. I swear with the two major blowups in Poli (Football and Baseball) that i've missed out on stuff that was said.

an open slot, to me, is just that - an open slot. meaning, an empty roster slot, not a slot that is filled with a player - even if it's one that was picked up just prior to Sunday's kick off.

it's hard for me to make a call here, since this game has a direct impact on my team and the playoffs.

a Bili victory keeps him in the running for a first round bye in the playoffs that could very well be decided in the season's last week, while a Bili loss drops him a full game behind.

the conflict with my team vs. my commissionership obviously concerns me.

if MITH is remembering that a ruling regarding adds/drops was made, i think we should go with that, no?

that being said, i'm also interested in what happened with Bili regarding the TE situation, whether it was just a bone-headed move (no offense), or a lag in the yahoo game caused difficulties in placing a TE into the slot.

Post 260 in the draft discussion thread:

a player who's team has already played is "locked" into your roster, and i'm pretty sure if we had a Plus league, it would automatically have rejected this move

That player wasn't picked up just before the kickoff. It was picked up just after. So the drop occurred but not the pickup. I think this was just a Yahoo lag. The drop went through pre-kickoff (obviously) but with the slot locked out when the player was added he went right to the bench.

Sounds like Tree is recusing himself.

I'll abide by whatever MITH thinks is right, as he is a reasonably disinterested party.

I knew I was cutting it close, but didn't think quite THAT close. I'm not sure it was a yahoo glitch. Should it have allowed the pickup at 10:00:08?

189Mattinglyinthehall

Well the lag definitely eliminate's Tree's primary justification for his edict:

Post 267: This, for all intents and purposes, gives [a manager] and extra roster spot for the week, because there is nothing to prevent him from playing Young on Sunday.

Since Bili never had the opportunity to use the player he selected, he effectively get no "extra roster spot" for the week. That said, those of use who disagreed with the edict when it was made argued that no significant advantage is gained from dropping a bench player after his game had started in the first place.

I'll abide by whatever MITH thinks is right

What I think is right is for the rule to be abolished. But ultimate control of the league's legislative process was assumed by the commissioner this year and I will not attempt a coup.

I knew I was cutting it close, but didn't think quite THAT close. I'm not sure it was a yahoo glitch. Should it have allowed the pickup at 10:00:08?

it allowed the DROP, because Sheffler wasn't locked into the slot as his team doesn't play until tonight. if his team had a 1 pm game, it wouldn't have allowed you to drop him.

it allowed the pick up of Lee, because free agents aren't locked by Yahoo at game time, unless you have Yahoo Plus. we have the game-time cut off, so players can't be picked up in mid-game, as Baldwin pointed out in post 157. i think we probably call this the Anquan Boldin rule. :o)

however, because Lee's team had a 1 pm game, he was locked in regards to being added to a starting line up.

this is an interesting situation, because i don't think it has been addressed.

kind of breaking things down:
1. technically, the drop was legal, because we don't have any rules against this.
2. technically, the pick up was ILLEGAL, because the game of the player in question had already started.
3. so, it seems to me, by what we've done previously, i'd remove the illegal player from Bili's roster and thusly he'd have a roster spot to add whoever he wants from tonight's game - ironically, probably the player he originally dropped.

anyone have any thoughts, etc, to this?

191Mattinglyinthehall

If we're assuming the pickup was made illegally (allowing Yahoo and the speed of bili's internet connection determine whether last moment transactions are made intime) replacing Lee with Scheffler on Bili's roster seems to make the most sense, but for a different reason.

As far as I can tell Tree's response to any illegal transaction has been to negate the whole transaction, not just the half of it that broke the rules. So if Lee was an illegal pickup in the first place then he should get Scheffler back on his roster and available for tonight.

Since the pickup and the drop was done at the same time (indeed, it was the same transaction), this seems to fall under the "technical difficulties" kind of problem. I doubt that this could be replicated, and we don't want to make up rule changes for technical problems, I don't think.

Bili was making a legal change which was FUBAR'd by Yahoo.

I myself would allow the thing to go through (that is, try to put Lee on his active roster). I don't think there is a reason to negate completely a single transaction which was prevented from its completion by Yahoo's technical glitch.

nah, i don't see it as a glitch, and Bili himself admitted as much.

i do think that putting Lee on his active roster is a bit much. he certainly did cut the move close - too close imho - and that's what made the difference here.

it's a close call - razor thin - and i'm inclined to believe the pick up was illegal.

Hard to overcome 19 points each from your freaking kicker and one defensive lineman.

It's been a frustrating year. Lost 3 games by less than 5 points each.

Yeah 2 of my losses were by a whisker, but I was lucky not to run into someone on their 200 point week.

In fact you put up more offense than any of my previous competition!

A lot of luck in head-to-head.

interesting things heading into the final week of the regular season.

my first place 10-2 team takes on bili's third place 9-3 team.

Tax's second place 9-3 team takes on MBJ's fourth place 7-5 team.

amazing that first place is undecided still, with three teams in the running - all have qualified for the playoffs.

a win, and MBJ is in the playoffs. a loss, coupled with wins by Jiminy, Baldwin, and Pancho, and he could find himself on the outside looking in based on points.

a win, and Jiminy is in, no matter what else happens.

Baldwin and Pancho are neck and neck for the 6th spot. same record, a point and a half separates them. who ever wins and scores the most points likely makes it into the playoffs.

Mith and Punkcould make it, but because of points, is an extreme nearly impossible long shot.

Wiggs could make it with a sub .500 record, but it would take Jiminy, Baldwin, and Pancho all losing, and Wiggs scoring more points by a wide margin.

exciting week!

I had to work yesterday, which doomed my ability to wait until right before gametime to see if Fitzgerald was going to play.

So I rolled the dice and left him in, giving up a 25 point day for Kevin Curtis. Likely cost me a playoff spot.

How can Gates get 1 catch for minus 1 yard?

It looks like MBJ needs Brian Urlacher to pick a couple off for TDs or record 6 sacks, or his season's done.

Though I have a nice lead, Tax still has the best RB not named LT and a fresh grain of Rice not named Jerry I've never heard of going tonight. Hope 50 is enough.

Alright!

One more game for my Guru-politico-sweepicus-maximus-rex!

My prediction:

Tree and I are about a wash at QB, I think I have an edge at WR, and he has an edge at RB with LT.

This game is going to be decided on D, and I'm going to stuff him up the middle, deep, and on special teams for the victory.

167 to 155

you think you have an edge at WR with Johnson, Evans, and Ward over Wayne, Marshall, and Bowe? they numbers over the course of the season aren't even close.

you definitely have me whipped on D, and i think losing Justin Fargas will play a big role...but, as Tom Brady fans know, anything can happen.

90% luck, 5% sweat and 14% mathematics.

Just my attempt at smack-talk. I'll give you WR, and I'll take RB then! Santonio is back, and I may plug him in for Evans, now that the Bills have folded up shop.

Anyway, Ward was hurt for 3 games. He's the equal of Marshall. And I have 3 guys who are the equal, or more, of Bowe. Also, if Wayne has a big game, Peyton picks up points.

Anyway, it should be a good, close match-up, with McGee being the difference maker.

been on the road for 10 days (so if my team had been locked again w/o a warning, it would have made no difference) Congrats on a thorough trouncing of my wannabees...wish Romo had not chosen wk 15 to fall to earth, but it's been a helluva ride.

Because of my beligerent response to a 2007 waiver "situation", caused by my inability to comprehend league waiver rules, I offer to become the 2008 Waiver Master (aka as "Tuesday's Troll")...of course that would be dependent upon a 2008 Commishioner getting the 2008 season underway.
