Subject: Freedom of Speech on the internet

I often visit the politcal forums but rarely post here. However, this little article caught my eye. Local authorities, imho, are completely out of line. Yes, the author of the comments is an idiot for making them and a jerk in my opinion. But he's not a criminal in this country.

Teacher arrested for blog comments

Under our current regimes changes to things like "due process", the definition of a "terrorist" and "hate crimes"; an arrest here would seem on the surface, right in keeping with recent degradations of civil liberties.

I agree entirely, that the comments were reprehensible. I also agree, that they were most likely intended as acidic sarcasm.

Its damn frightening, what is happening in this country right now.

Sure. Drop the charges, and then have the school decide whether to fire him.

Stupid, stupid cops. No donut.

I can't imagine the prosecutors want to follow up this stupid mistake by making one of their own.

Bah.... They may let him twist in the wind a while, but the Disorderly Conduct charge will be dismissed.

I don't know whzt the unauthorized use of a computer charge is - but I guess it might stick if it was brought because he posted using a state owned computer. Don't know.

yeah but if teachers started dying one by one and 4 months down the road the oakcreek slayer was captured and it was Buss then everyone would look at that blog and say why didn't someone do something. no charges absolutely correct investigating may be overboard maybe not but i dare anyone to yell bomb in an airport and think that they won't be detained.
the fine line that will always be debatable.

Sure, and if you yell "fire" in a theater you'd be busted too.

This is yelling on the internet, however. Both of us would have been put away years ago if that was illegal.
